Conversely it's my favourite Geri song and one of my overall favourite solo Spice songs
I was on holiday in Guernsey with my parents (I was 11!) when Mi Chico Latino came out... I bought CD1 & 2 from Woolworths there. I got the misprinted CD2 disc - the disc had the same design as CD1 (blue and stated it had B Sides on it) but it actually did play the remixes. I'm glad I didn't take it back to the shop because I'm happy to have it in my collection! I ended up buying the correct pink disc version some years later. I played those CDs every day on that holiday, so it always reminds me of it (which was actually a bit of a disaster, with bad weather and bad accommodation, but it's funny to remember ). 20 years ago though It was a very well timed release considering that Latin Pop was having quite a moment in the summer of 99! I'm glad it was a UK #1 |

It is a BOP and a very early 2000s defining summer ANTHEM but the Spanish is so so so soooo bad. She gave it the ooolll college try!

My favourite Geri song for sure! 'Viva Forever' is my favourite Spice Girls song too, so up with latin-pop clearly.

I love as well, having re-read "Just for the Record" this weekend (research for the fact I've written about 'Chico' for my blog's retro pop series about the charts of 1999 this week) that we have her mum's collection of slushy Spanish language romances to thank for her talky bits in Spanish on there. 'Donde ésta el hombre con fuego en la sangre?' indeed

The last anniversary I posted about was Wannabe in early July, and then ThePensmith posted about Mi Chico Latino. Here are all the anniversaries that occurred between them!
21 Years Ago: 20/07/98 - Spice Girls - Viva Forever 19 Years Ago: 07/08/00 - Melanie C - I Turn to You 19 Years Ago: 14/08/00 - Victoria Beckham - Out of Your Mind (with True Steppers & Dane Bowers) 18 Years Ago: 30/07/01 - Geri Halliwell - Scream If You Wanna Go Faster 16 Years Ago: 06/08/03 - Melanie C - Let's Love [Japanese Release] 14 Years Ago: 01/08/05 - Melanie C - Better Alone [Online Release] 11 Years Ago: 25/07/08 - Melanie C - Understand [Canadian Release] 6 Years Ago: 18/08/13 - Melanie C - Loving You (with Matt Cardle) 3 Years Ago: 29/07/16 - Melanie C - Numb (with Sons of Sonix) The first few in that list being that old doesn't actually phase me as much as realising that Loving You was 6 years ago already... feels more recent! |

27th August 2001 - Take My Breath Away released! It reached #5 in the UK charts. Such a pretty song! Emma was a couple of thousand sales behind Louise, but 4,000 ahead of #6. I wonder if Emma might have made it to #4 with a CD1 & CD2 combo rather than CD & DVD. 1- TOO CLOSE- Blue (83,886) 2- LET’S DANCE- Five (43,000)* 3- FOLLOW ME- Uncle Cracker (41,000)* 4- STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU- Louise (36,000)* 5- TAKE MY BREATH AWAY- Emma Bunton (34,000)* 6- 21 SECONDS- So Solid Crew (30,000)* 7- LET ME BLOW YOUR MIND- Eve Ft Gwen Stefani (29,000)* 8- TAKE ME HOME (A GIRL LIKE ME)- Sophie Ellis Bextor (28,000)* 9- TURN OFF THE LIGHTS- Nelly Furtado (28,000)* 10- LITTLE L- Jamiroquai (26,000)* |

Stuck In The Middle was a much better song, though. Emma was never gonna beat it.

Why do I remember this as a summer song?! Let me guess: summer promo, video on over the summer, and then releasing it in September when everyone was bored of it? Can't Get You Out Of My Head was also technically released in September, but is mostly remembered as a "summer song". It's the way things worked in ye olden times kid. |

Aaahhh the good old days when acts released the single 1 MONTH AFTER the song and video were out. That gave them time to perform on shows, build an audience, etc. But back then, there were also a lot more TV shows and platforms for music acts than today... |
