The first single from ARTPOP was supposed to be ‘Sexxx Dreams’, but then I wrote ‘Applause’ and I was like “No, this one has to be the single!” - Lady Gaga to Tchami on #GagaRadio

Lady Gaga has revealed that the original plans for ARTPOP were for 'Sexxx Dreams' to be the lead single. However, after writing 'Applause' she switched to that. So the question is, which would you rather have had lead the album?

Has to be 'Sexxx Dreams' for me! I find 'Applause' to be a safe song and very radio friendly, but 'Sexxx Dreams' is a STATEMENT and would have started and represented the era much more effectively and explosively. Would it have been a bigger hit? Probably not, but a GUY CAN DREAM xoxo

I'm gutted that 'Applause' even got recorded now, knowing that.

'Sexxx Dreams' is by FAR the superior song, and IMAGINE what a spectacle the video would have been

I love Applause but I definitely think Sexxx Dreams would’ve been a bigger hit so I’ll go with that.

Applause was the best choice to open the ARTPOP era. Sexxx Dreams would be a flop, no radio would play that.

The Sex(xx) Dreams version of the iTunes festival in London will always be the best. She always has the craze to make last-minute changes, and it doesn't always end up resulting in something better (same for Free Woman).
