Just listening to Colbie Caillat's gorgeous Coco album for the first time in a little while and have been reminded that Bubbly somehow tanked at No.58 in the UK despite getting decent promo on music channels at the time and presumably some airplay, though I can't remember how much. The song was top 5 in the US, No.1 in Australia and top 10 in at least 15 other territories according to Wikipedia.

Can anybody think of any other songs that were big hits worldwide (i.e. at least 5-10 countries) but either didn't get a UK push or got a push and flopped, and for the latter it would be interesting to know why people think well promoted songs that had established global popularity didn't click here. Or even songs that were hits on some scale here (like low top 40), but nowhere near the same extent as elsewhere - something like One Day/Reckoning Song by Asaf Avidan and the Mojos, which topped out at No.30 here despite being top 10 all over Europe and No.1 in many countries.

Carrie Underwood as a whole has had a huge success in US and a fair amount of success in Australia and Canada, but has never managed to break the UK market

There's that Spanish song from 2010 that basically topped the charts all over Europe and only scrapped the Top 40 here... it's name escapes me.

Do you mean 'Alors On Danse' (which was French)?

Bailando? All Spanish songs fits in tbh.

Edit: Bailando was later...

There was definitely something in the water in 2010. Waka Waka by Shakira, Satellite by Lena, Alors On Danse by Stromae, Wonderful Life by Hurts etc...all missed the top 20 despite being huge all over Europe. At least a couple of them had decent chart runs/total sales.

I'm searching through 2010 charts trying to find it and I came across this one but it's not it, although it does still fit.

I immediately thought of 'Danza Kuduro' but then remembered that got as high as #13 here! Was still #1 in a lot of other places though.

I’ve been listening to a few old German compilation CDs recently and have come across quite a few dance songs I didn’t know from the 90s that had smashed there but flopped here, often by artists that were one-hit wonders here but had extended careers elsewhere, like Dr Alban and Rednex.

Also just remembered Schnappi, das kleine Krokodil which was low top 40 here in 2005 (?) but huge all over Europe.

I'm sure it was 2010 as I recall 'Stereo Love' smashing at the same time.

I love these, and also see no reason why Lykke and Imany wouldn't have been huge with a proper push here.

Michel Telo - Ai Se Eu Te Pego

This is it!! Wow was it really 2012? And didn't even make the Top 40 at all either. But yes, I remember everyone thinking it would be huge here as it had topped the charts all over Europe.

Michel Telo wub.gif wub.gif

Kat Deluna had a couple of decent hits in a few countries. 'Whine Up' went top 30 in the US & Germany top 20 in Canada & Top 10 in Belgium & France. It didn't chart/get a release here.

'Run The Show' only got to #41 here (UGH!!!!) but went top 10 in Belgium, Finland (#2) & France as well as top 30 in Switzerland!

Another from 2010 is I Like by Keri Hilson, No.34 here but No.1 in Germany and top 10 all over the place. It's not as if she hadn't had previous hits here either so that was a bizarre underperformance though it managed a few weeks in the top 40.

I guess it's quite rare for a huge US hit to underperform here, unless it's country, but there are a few - Imma Be by Black Eyed Peas (No.55, No.1 in the US), basically everything by the incredible Sarah McLachlan apart from Silence...

Also Be My Lover by La Bouche was literally massive everywhere but here in the mid 90s, where it had a couple of weeks low top 40? Incredibly puzzling underperformance for an iconic 90s anthem.

On my search for 'Ai Se Eu Te Pego' I came across 'I Like' which I had totally forgotten about. Loved it at the time and was sad to see it under-perform. It was the UK follow-up to 'Knock You Down' wasn't it?

Fade Out Lines and Katchi (a #1 of mine) would've been really great dance hits that sound nothing like anything else in the charts at the time.

Don't Be So Shy I'm honestly surprised it wasn't huge in the UK like it was literally everywhere else! Such a huge song and definitely one of the most memorable of 2016, it was all over the radio too I guarantee you no one in Australia got away with not hearing that at least once.

Reality was big over here too... in fact Australia has a surprisingly good dance chart tbh. Sometimes. Lot's of Aussie dance artists do pretty well over here but don't do anything anywhere else too eg PNAU, Hayden James, The Aston Shuffle, Hermitude, Flight Facilities, Tommy Trash, Cosmo's Midnight, ShockOne... then even the bigger known names struggle like Flume, Pendulum, Sneaky Sound System, or Havana Brown

+1 to Bailando. It was literally 1-2 years early to the trend otherwise no doubt would've been a massive summer #1

I always found it strange how I Follow Rivers became this huge European hit out of nowhere. Deserved, of course. But random.
