Bottas to merc, Massa back to Williams and Pascal to sauber is basically done deal

Posted by: Mack 4th January 2017, 01:25 PM

Somehow there may be a possibility that Gutierrez could move to Manor and possibly Nasr.

Possibility after 2019 that Silverstone won't host the British Grand Prix:

Sad news about Manor Racing as they go into administration.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/38530855

Posted by: Silas 6th January 2017, 02:12 PM

Not surprised. Thanks to Haas we would have 10 teams still if they did go under so situation isn't as drastic as it was couple of years ago

Posted by: Mack 10th January 2017, 01:04 PM

Apparently Paddy Lowe the Mercedes executive director has left to join Williams.

Posted by: Silas 11th January 2017, 09:45 AM

Vasseur has left Renault by "mutual consent" I.e. Renault have sacked Vasseur

They finally confirmed this today.

You had only was it 9 teams during the final races in 2014, if I remember correctly?

Posted by: Silas 17th January 2017, 01:40 PM

Yeah we dropped to 9 which isn't great. 20-24 car grid is the sweet spot I reckon so as long as we've got 10 we're all good

Posted by: Mack 23rd January 2017, 12:57 PM

Marcus Ericsson- a potential Grand prix winner according to Sauber's team boss, really?

Posted by: Silas 23rd January 2017, 09:07 PM

I think he's completely correct! In the same way that technically everyone's a potential Grand Prix winner in a race with 19 DNFs

Posted by: Dobbo 23rd January 2017, 10:42 PM

Well only if he joins a select few teams capable of winning in the future or has an Olivier Panis-style Monaco win.

Posted by: Mack 23rd January 2017, 11:22 PM

At last Bernie Ecclestone gone as controller of F1.

Posted by: Mack 24th January 2017, 01:20 PM

In what direction would you like to see F1 take now Chase Carey is the controller of F1?

I want refuelling! And Michelin tyres back! And less races in f***ing sand in the arse-end of no where. Bahrain is a f***ing terrible location for a Grand Prix.

Also need to tell the FIA to eat a bag of dicks and bring back gravel traps instead of parking lot run off areas. You can't cut corners when you immediately after the kerb is a sea of gravel (good luck cheating now Hamilcunt!

Ross Brawn's vision of changes to F1:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/38734708

Posted by: Silas 25th January 2017, 10:45 AM

Killing DRS would be good. Not so sure about the changes to engines.

TBH a full reset to 2005/6 wouldn't be a bad thing. Sure it was gas guzzling engines but Renault won with a budget of like €100m. RBR and Merc are spending over €400m a season right now

Posted by: Mack 27th January 2017, 01:09 PM

Manor F1 have folded following administrators being unable to find a buyer for them. Someone could still purchase the remnants of the team. It means that all three of the new F1 teams who entered in 2010 have all folded.

I would say HRT were the worst out of the three new teams.

There always seemed to be a gap between the established and the newer teams.

Posted by: Silas 27th January 2017, 01:39 PM

Shame. Well if it wasn't for Bianci I'm 99% certain I wouldn't give a shit. Rumour is Renault and I think FI had already been poaching staff en mass

Posted by: Dobbo 28th January 2017, 11:28 AM

I'm not surprised nor all that disappointed in truth. They did just fill the token back of the grid void vacated by Caterham a few seasons prior. I am glad however Wehrlein took his chance.

Posted by: Silas 30th January 2017, 12:48 AM

Thanks to Manor, here's the first look at a 2017 F1 car:

Posted by: Mack 8th February 2017, 08:49 AM

This must be the final season where we'll see if Hulkenberg and Perez show their potential.

Posted by: Silas 9th February 2017, 08:24 AM

I would expect 2018 to be a better yardstick for Hulk. Depends what Renault shows up with to pre-season on Feb 27th

Posted by: Mack 9th February 2017, 07:20 PM

I would feel if Raikkonen was to retire this season then it would be the final opportunity for Perez to get a top drive in F1 reminds me a bit of Heidfeld's career in him and Hulkenberg for me. I might be the only one who thinks that though.

Posted by: Mack 13th February 2017, 01:36 PM

Which driver pairing are you looking forward to seeing the most this season?

Posted by: Dobbo 13th February 2017, 06:42 PM

Most interested in seeing who comes out on top between Ricciardo & Verstappen over a full season.

Posted by: Mack 13th February 2017, 10:41 PM

Has to be this season Verstappen and Ricciardo as the most exciting driver pairing. Really looking forward to that battle.

Posted by: Silas 14th February 2017, 11:59 PM

Yeah that one is going to be good. Especially if the noises RBR are making about aero and engine progress are true then from the first euro race they could be serious contenders (RBR have said they expect to start seeing the new engine at full potential from Spain)

Posted by: Mack 15th February 2017, 08:46 AM

How do people see Bottas doing at Mercedes this season?

Posted by: Silas 18th February 2017, 11:14 AM

And we're officially in unveiling season!

Sauber are first to launch their physical car, with 2016 power unit, on Monday. The first all new 2017 challenger will be launched by Renault on Tuesday

Posted by: Mack 20th February 2017, 12:57 PM

Quite like the hint of gold for Sauber's new car.

http://www.planetf1.com/news/sauber-officially-unveil-the-c36-ferrari/

Expecting them to be towards the back along with Haas.

Posted by: Silas 20th February 2017, 05:49 PM

They will be dead last this year with that engine. Love the colour scheme

Posted by: Severin 20th February 2017, 06:28 PM

Quite like the look of that Sauber. Particularly the rear wing, although the nose is still ugly

Posted by: Mack 21st February 2017, 08:56 AM

They'll most likely be companying 19th and 20th on the grid throughout the season, Sauber.

Posted by: Silas 21st February 2017, 03:30 PM

New Renault looks pretty. I rather like the colour scheme

Posted by: Mack 22nd February 2017, 08:40 AM

How do you see Renault doing this season, Silas?

Is this the season where Hulkenberg fulfils his potential and nets a podium.

Posted by: Silas 22nd February 2017, 08:47 AM

Nah. I think if we can get into the points consistently that'll be good for us. Same with reaching Q3. Realistically I think there's probably another season before the engine is where it needs to be.

We shall see what testing brings but this is probably more of a 2003 season than 2004. I know we got a podium in 03 and if circumstances are kind we could do it this year but I don't think it's likely - unless we can plant the car on pole at Monaco and hold the lead through the first corner

Posted by: Silas 22nd February 2017, 11:26 PM

The nose of this new Force India is utterly hideous!! So ugly

Posted by: Mack 23rd February 2017, 12:49 PM

And what's with the shark fin as part of their design for Force India.

Very ambitious that they're targeting 3rd in the constructor's championship can't see that happening.

Posted by: Juranamo 24th February 2017, 01:24 PM

I actually really love that McLaren, gives me Arrows circa 2001/2002 vibes. wub.gif

Posted by: Silas 24th February 2017, 04:36 PM

Yeah I agree! It's very very Arrows

Posted by: Silas 25th February 2017, 10:17 AM

Just saw an Insta post that had a stacked pic of the new McLaren, an Arrows and a Spyker and omg they're legit so similar. Forgot Spyker were orange.

Posted by: Silas 26th February 2017, 07:02 PM

Has everyone seen the new Toro Rosso? Stunning. Best nose of this years cars and that new livery is sensational

Posted by: Mack 27th February 2017, 01:19 PM

Very impressive livery from Toro Rosso there indeed.

Posted by: Mack 28th February 2017, 08:43 AM

Can't see Alonso staying at McLaren next year if McLaren have another poor season.

Posted by: Mack 2nd March 2017, 12:56 PM

Williams have cancelled testing for today following crash damage to the car after Stroll's crash.

Posted by: Mack 3rd March 2017, 07:00 PM

Hope it doesn't happen although it looks likely could be another mediocre season for McLaren.

Posted by: Cabaye 3rd March 2017, 08:05 PM

The days where they had Hakkinen & Coulthard are long gone.

Posted by: Mack 3rd March 2017, 11:27 PM

Well yes they did win races and won a drivers title in 2008, we'll wait and see what happens this season.

Posted by: Silas 4th March 2017, 04:17 AM

The McHonda shit show is all the BBC seem to be capable of talking about. Looks like a strong showing from Ferrari and RBR and surprisingly Renault. It is testing so you don't really know who is sandbagging and who is driving on fumes. The Renault engines were supposedly running detuned this week. (In all 3 cars)

Could be an interesting year.

Posted by: Mack 10th March 2017, 04:45 PM

No-one if ever will match the achievement that John Surtees did with winning the F1 world title and the 500cc world title.

RIP John Surtees.

Posted by: Silas 14th March 2017, 01:28 PM

Won't miss the Force India card this year. They're now bright pink!

Posted by: Mack 14th March 2017, 07:18 PM

Pink, okay.

It's because of a new sponsorship deal.

Posted by: Juranamo 15th March 2017, 12:36 PM

Excellent, I love that this year seems to be more diverse in terms of liveries. And I can't recall ever seeing a pink F1 car so that is very unique indeed!

Posted by: Mack 22nd March 2017, 01:21 PM

Expecting McLaren and Sauber in locking the back of the grid this weekend.

Posted by: Silas 22nd March 2017, 01:41 PM

Fair shout. This years Honda looks like the 2015 Renault tbh. Less reliable and a backwards step

Posted by: Mack 22nd March 2017, 01:50 PM

I might have asked this question before, but do you see Alonso staying at McLaren after 2017? I'd be amazed if he does if McLaren are like 2015 all over again.

It'll be interesting to se how Stroll does for Williams in the early races for some reason I have Pizzonia's vibes with him.

Posted by: Silas 22nd March 2017, 05:35 PM

I don't think so. He's either retiring or going for a glory year with someone capable of winning. Palmer is on a one year contract. Ferrari are in market again. Not sure Bottas is tied to merc for long either. Plenty of big seats around.

Honestly I see Renault going for Sainz rather than Alonso (as nice as it's be) and I cant see him back at Ferrari so either Merc or retire I think. Shame as he's the superior talent to Hamilton. Hamilton is anonymous when not in the best car and that's when Alonso utterly thrives.

Testing didn't go well for Stroll did it? I'm apprehensive about him coz his daddy clearly bought that seat and I'm not entirely convinced it's deserved. Stoffel for example is a much more promising talent. At that end of the experience scale Stroll is up against Ocon, Werhline, Palmer and Max too and I haven't seen anything that convinces me that he's worth a drive at all never mind capable of beating last years rookies

Posted by: Mack 24th March 2017, 01:01 PM

And Mercedes top both of the practice sessions. Hoping Ferrari and Red Bull put a fight at least in qualifying and the race.

Posted by: Silas 24th March 2017, 02:28 PM

Of course they were sandbagging in testing. The sooner their dominance ends the better.

Posted by: Mack 24th March 2017, 10:17 PM

With the rules changes, they've either f***ed it up again and made it boring or produced close exciting racing. We shall see.

Posted by: Nick F1 25th March 2017, 07:02 AM

Ric out sad.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 25th March 2017, 02:36 PM

Good to see Hammo on pole & Bottas putting up a decent fight! Shame Vettel just pipped him to the front row but at least it's 2 teams at the front I suppose. The start will be interesting with the clutch changes & I can see Seb leading into turn 1 tbf.

Gutted for Danny Ric, a very uncharacteristic error. Should be fun watching him scythe through the field.

Posted by: Mack 25th March 2017, 07:45 PM

Hopefully it will be an interesting race. Didn't see qualifying though. Stroll already looking out of his depth there.

Giovinazzi in for Wehrlein who misses the race due to his back injury. Qualified 17th.

Mightly qualifying for Grosjean in Haas in 6th.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 25th March 2017, 08:05 PM

*16th

Very nearly beat Eriksson who lines up 15th. If he'd no made that wee error on the final turn he'd have made Q2.

Palmer is just an embarrassment. His attitude sucked after too. He binned it on Friday and then they had to rush the car so he's nae right to f***ing winge about the car after that. If it continues he'll be gone by the mid point.

the crowd reaction was great to see

gutted for Ricciardo tho especially on home soil

Posted by: Emperor Silas 26th March 2017, 05:34 PM

I think he got boo'd on the podium a lil too.

Horrid weekend for Dani Ric. sad.gif hopefully they've not burned through an engine already as that's gonna be costly at the end of the season

Posted by: Mack 26th March 2017, 07:13 PM

Yes he definitely got booed obviously because of his controversial tactics in Abu Dhabi. Good win for Vettel, finally a non-Mercedes win.

Stroll very poor indeed.

Posted by: Mack 27th March 2017, 07:50 AM

Amazed the fans were allowed to invade the track straight after the race when cars were still on the track.

Posted by: Dobbo 27th March 2017, 08:46 PM

I expect the crowd were cheering mainly just because a Mercedes was overtaken! First win on outright performance for a different team since Singapore 2015. Definitely what the season needed, although if it ends up swinging the other way & Ferrari become the dominant car that'll make for an even worse season given their mantra of a clear first & second driver. Hopefully not & we see a close fight throughout with hopefully RBR getting in the mix too.

Australians never have much luck in Oz do they?

Posted by: Mack 28th March 2017, 07:44 AM

I'm glad though that there was a non-Mercedes win. It definitely needed that. I expect a straight fight between Vettel and the Brit. Can see Raikkonen and Bottas definitely being the no2 driver.

I don't think Bottas should be disappointed with third place. It was a solid drive from him.

Massa had a good drive from his short-lived retirement. He'll much superior to Stroll. I know I have probably written him off, Stroll. He'll have to prove me wrong.

I can see Giovinazzi getting a drive next year hopefully. He'd impressed me considering he had limited running in the car. 12th was probably the best he could have hoped for.

Palmer was very disappointing, a contender to be replaced mid-season if he can't produce any results.

Posted by: Mack 4th April 2017, 07:54 AM

Giovinazzi will be racing again in China as Wehrlein continues his recovery from a back injury he suffered in the Race of Champions back in January.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 4th April 2017, 08:17 AM

He's getting a lot of flack for pulling out again :/

I hurt my back over a decade ago and when it hurts real bad there's no way it'd be able to get anywhere near the G forces one of these things produces.

Posted by: Mack 4th April 2017, 12:05 PM

Father of Max, Jos Verstappen has been arrested following a fight at the nightclub.

He could be back as late as Russia, Wehrlein could. Depends how bad the injury is, clearly he isn't fit enough to return just yet. If Antonio produces a similar drive or betters his drive in China he should be able to get a drive for next season.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 4th April 2017, 12:18 PM

I think Ferrari are eyeing him as a Kimi replacement. If Kimi stays on for a further year then I think we could see a bidding war for his services. I can see Sauber, Force India and Renault and circling. It's not unthinkable he'd end up at McLaren or Williams but I can see them pairing their rookies with experience next year rather than another rookie.

He has done a very good job for Sauber, given the circumstances. I'm really looking forward to what he can do over a full weekend

Posted by: Mack 7th April 2017, 07:53 AM

No running in second practice due to poor visibility and the medical helicopter being unable to operate.

Going back to Giovinazzi, if Ericsson continues to be poor I think he'll replace him mid-season.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 7th April 2017, 08:13 AM

And less than 20 mins of running in FP1! Going to be an interesting weekend with so little running prior to the race

Posted by: Mack 7th April 2017, 08:12 PM

Interesting indeed, the weather could definitely play a part on Sunday.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 9th April 2017, 04:32 PM

I watched the last 20 or so laps so missed the safety car dramas. Saw a replay of Gio's crash, feel for the lad tbh really wanted him to have a strong weekend

Posted by: Mack 9th April 2017, 06:26 PM

Two rookie mistakes though from him, Gio. Shame. Hope it's not the last we've see from him.

Stroll- good qualifying but a crap way to go out.

Posted by: Dobbo 9th April 2017, 08:52 PM

Stroll was unlucky, was 100% Perez's fault that, surprised he escaped without a penalty.

Decent race, nice to see them pushing to the end, always felt this track would be a better indicator of the how effective the new regulations were than Melbourne. Only a week to wait for the next one biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mack 10th April 2017, 11:31 AM

Didn't Gio crash near the extract same place where he did in qualifying?

A OK race better than the last one. Looks like Red Bull could join the Mercedes/Ferrari battle in mid-season possibly.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 10th April 2017, 09:03 PM

Almost yeah. Other side of track but same stretch pretty much.

The F1 Facebook has a video of Max's first lap where he single handedly does more overtakes than the whole field at Melbourne. I like the Aussie Grand Prix but it's not one for much overtaking neither is Monaco. Canada is probably the best street circuit for overtaking

Posted by: Mack 12th April 2017, 07:57 AM

Pascal Wehrlein back for Sauber for Bahrain.

I hope those two crashes haven't deterred teams from wanting Gio as a driver for next season. If teams can have Yamamoto, Karthikeyan and Crashtor for too long then surely a possible talent could get a drive.

Posted by: Mack 12th April 2017, 11:47 AM

Interesting news-

Fernando Alonso is set to miss the Monaco Grand Prix and take part in the Indy 500 in an McLaren-entered car.

What do you think of this, how do you think he'll do.

Posted by: Mack 13th April 2017, 11:50 AM

Jenson Button looking very likely to replace Alonso for Monaco.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 13th April 2017, 11:59 AM

Another short retirement! I think it'd be a shame for them not to use their reserve driver but I understand in a way given that'd leave them with 2 rookies

Posted by: Mack 15th April 2017, 01:44 PM

Palmer has never shown why he could be a future Grand Prix winner. I do wonder why he is still at Renault.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 15th April 2017, 04:03 PM

Hulk thrashed him in Quali. However Palmer finally made it out of Q1 reaching Q3 for the first time!

Bottas gets his maiden pole! happy.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 16th April 2017, 04:50 PM

Ferrari proving Melbourne wasn't an early season fluke, they have some very competitive racecraft this season. Even without that daft penalty for Hammo I think he'd have struggled to get past Vettel. Shame Bottas faded away in the middle, he looked good in the opening 10 laps!

Feel for Stroll, taken out again by a ridiculous lunge. The McLaren situation never fails to amuse me laugh.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 16th April 2017, 04:54 PM

Definitely the best race so far! Force India continue to impress despite having very weak pace and qualifying yesterday, 3 double points finishes out of 3 - something I imagine only Ferrari and Mercedes have also managed!

Palmer really is dreadful, about 1.5 seconds behind Hulkenberg yesterday and he ends up finishing last today yet again. I know there were lots of DNFs but still!

Posted by: Mack 16th April 2017, 09:46 PM

Palmer is a rubbish driver. Best race of the season so far if Max hadn't had brake failure he could have played a part in the race.

Posted by: Emperor Silas 16th April 2017, 11:29 PM

Another good race. Having a second team in it certainly makes it a lot better.

Pleased to see Hulk got points this week after Renault f***ed up last week. I just can't at Palmer talking the talk, but finishing literally last. He was in the wrong engine mode in Q3 but the gap in Q2 and Q1 was like 0.7secs. So still a huge gap. No way that's set up.

There's rumours that Alonso was spotted chatting to Renault reps with his Manager about a 2018 drive. I WOULD DIE. (of happiness obviously) So Palmer is defo gone for next year. Just a question of when not if.

Will be interesting to see what happens from Russia/Spain when the aero upgrades and engine upgrade hits for RBR. Coz all 6 Renault's are running the 2016 ERS currently. 2017 not coming until Spain with the rest of the upgrade. They reckon it's worth 0.3 alone which with aero (coz its not just the engine this year) could put RBR in the hunt

Posted by: Mack 19th April 2017, 12:14 PM

I think Bottas would feel hard done by if he is asked to move over and help Hamilton win the race for the title. I prefer teams that let drivers race each other and no matter what, not use team orders.

Never been a fan of team orders at all.

Alex Zanardi will be that kids role model from now on. Utterly horrific to hear about tho.

Posted by: Mack 26th April 2017, 12:07 PM

Surely a non-Mercedes car might actually lead in Sochi seeing as every race so far that has been held on Sochi it has been a Mercedes car leading every lap.

Posted by: Mack 28th April 2017, 10:00 PM

Hopefully the signs look positive with Ferrari 1-2 in second practice although I don't read too much into that.

Remind me what's fascinating about Sochi?

Posted by: Silas 28th April 2017, 10:02 PM

Mercs suspiciously off the pace. I don't buy it.

Sochi is noteworthy to see how much money was wasted by Putin in attempting to shore up his image and give legitimacy to his regime while his own people suffer.

Posted by: Silas 29th April 2017, 12:28 PM

Palmer binned it into a wall yet again failing to get out of Q1 a whole second off Hulk's pace. He's simply just not good enough for a factory drive, or any drive.

Rumours of Alonso coming back to Renault for next season. That would please me greatly. Saw somewhere someone saying that Renault is the only place Alonso has ever really been happy/non-disruptive

Posted by: Silas 29th April 2017, 01:04 PM

AT FUCKING LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crying. Didn't think this day would come. Front row lock out for Ferrari!!!! Long live the prancing horse!!!! First time since 2013 we've had a car that isn't a Merc on the front row.

Now to get the Renault powered cars up there.

Posted by: Dobbo 29th April 2017, 01:21 PM

Not been quite that long surprisingly, Singapore 2015 was the last time. Impressive stuff though, I expected Ferrari to win the race even if a Merc was on pole but it's pretty much a foregone conclusion now, especially with Kyvat way back on the grid this time round.

Posted by: Silas 29th April 2017, 01:43 PM

I forgot the momentary blip where both Ferrari and RBR got ahead.

Posted by: Mack 29th April 2017, 08:02 PM

First front row lockout for Ferrari since the 2008 French Grand Prix!

A great moment for F1 in Ferrari getting 1-2 in qualifying. It's good to see them back at the front. That was my reaction too, Silas when they got 1-2.

Posted by: jakewild 29th April 2017, 08:11 PM

amazin! vettel's reaction was brilliant too

v pumped for tomorrow, should be a good race and a great fight up front

Posted by: Dobbo 30th April 2017, 01:39 PM

That is fantastic for Bottas! Immense start which surprised me as usually its the Ferraris off the grid best. Made up for an otherwise standard tedious Russian GP.

Gutted for Danny Ric, not having the luck this season at all.

Posted by: Silas 30th April 2017, 02:59 PM

Hate that it's another merc victory but am thrilled to see Bottas get his first win and comprehensively thrash Hamilton.

Hulk had a strong race going 39 laps on the ultras!

it was getting to the point i thought he was just gonna push thru with them til the end tbh! same for vet and 20 second lead was pretty impressive

thrilled for bottas tho. and good to see him above hamilton. not a fan of the circuit however. nothing much really happened and i kept zoning out.

Posted by: Silas 30th April 2017, 06:39 PM

Yeah I agree that circuit is trash. Like the country to be fair.

I was sitting there like "did Hulk sneakily switch to Supers in the SC????" Was impressive to see them hold on so long, more Michelin/Bridgestone esque tyres this year.

Posted by: Mack 30th April 2017, 08:14 PM

No passing at all in Sochi. Good to see Bottas get that first win. Great drive from him.

Posted by: Mack 1st May 2017, 07:35 PM

Palmer still showing no signs of any F1 potential following his performance in Russia.

Posted by: jakewild 2nd May 2017, 11:04 AM

it really isn't looking good for him

Posted by: Mack 2nd May 2017, 11:58 AM

It would be a daft idea if you had points from 1st-20th for every finisher.

Posted by: Silas 2nd May 2017, 12:31 PM

Yeah his days have got to be numbered. There is no way he keeps his seat for next year and without Manor I can't see a pay drive slot for him either. The Renault should be competitive enough next year not to have an issue attracting talent so they will be able to jettison the driftwood. Even if they don't sign nando they've got a driver development programme

QUOTE(Mack @ May 2 2017, 12:58 PM) *
It would be a daft idea if you had points from 1st-20th for every finisher.

Would it though? Think how much difference it could make to the likes of sauber in the WC. If there was an element of prize money that was linked to points (up to a cap) them clinging on to finish 13/14 in a 14 car race could start to really add up and make a huge difference financially

Posted by: jakewild 2nd May 2017, 12:57 PM

ia, it could make it a little more exciting at the back end of the field if there's an incentive to cling onto a certain position. plus i really don't see the harm in so many points being divvied out..

Posted by: Mack 3rd May 2017, 12:44 PM

If there was an element of prize money to be added if this were going to happen then I'll be swayed. It would definitely help teams like Sauber shame this didn't happen when Caterham, Manor were on the grid.

Jealous that you're off to Monaco!!!!

Not so much about Baku.

Posted by: Mack 9th May 2017, 11:56 AM

Baku was a letdown last year.

Promised quite a bit and was hyped up but delivered very little.

Posted by: Silas 9th May 2017, 11:57 AM

Hamilton crashing was it's only redeeming feature

Posted by: Mack 9th May 2017, 12:05 PM

The support races were more dramatic than the actual F1 race from Baku if I remember correctly.

Hopefully this year's will be more interesting to watch.

Posted by: Mack 10th May 2017, 07:47 AM

Would be good going into Spain that Red Bull has closed the gap to Mercedes/ Ferrari.

There is no reason why Bottas can't make an challenge for the world title this year. I wonder what price he is for the world title.

Posted by: Juranamo 10th May 2017, 09:25 AM

Just caught up with this season, great to see Bottas win his first GP but dear lord, what a dull race that was. Aside from the first lap, was there a single overtake? It did get a little tense towards the end I guess, but Sebastian was never gonna overtake. laugh.gif

Jolyon's a bit rubbish isn't he? I'm really gunning for him to do well because I want there to be a Brit that I like on and off track (he seems like a nice enough bloke, unlike Lewis), but he's just dreadful. Hopefully he'll improve with experience, if he gets a chance. laugh.gif

Posted by: Mack 10th May 2017, 11:58 AM

Only a couple where I may have blinked in regards to overtake. Russia was very dull.

Palmer really needs to up his game, he just seems to struggle under pressure. He needs to at least match Hulkenberg on pace which is very unlikely.

Posted by: jakewild 10th May 2017, 08:45 PM

ia about palmer. do we think he will actually be brought back next year? his potential is high however his results so far this year have been dire. I would love to see him improve cos like juranamo it's finally a recent brit after button that I can actually warm to...

really looking forward to the Spanish Grand Prix tho, one of my favs.

Posted by: Mack 11th May 2017, 11:43 AM

If he improves vastly, it could be brought back next year or move teams, where I'm not sure. We'll only have one Brit in the grid if Palmer was dropped. He really needs to start getting some results.

Posted by: Silas 11th May 2017, 11:53 AM

No way he keeps a Renault seat next year. They and he both know that already. His results are shite but they didn't have a good enough car to attract the calibre of people they wanted so settled. Let's not forget he only got his contract because Haas signed KMag. They offered that seat to 90% of the grid then settled for Palmer because they couldn't be f***ed with a rookie and I don't think they or anyone else expected them to have made such a leap over winter.

He's 100% not staying at Renault next year. I'm praying for Alonso or Sainz personally.

Posted by: Mack 11th May 2017, 11:57 AM

I don't want Renault to keep Palmer for next year because of his results, personally he should have been dropped last year. Renault should given a rookie a chance like the Russian test driver what about Sirotkin?

Give him a chance and see what he can do.

Posted by: Dobbo 11th May 2017, 06:40 PM

To be honest I was happy myself when Palmer was retained, I think I said at the time a lot of drivers don't get quite enough time before they're axed and never seen from again, the Red Bull teams most guilty of this but he really has been poor this season. That pace difference to Hulkenberg isn't good reading. He was unlucky at Russia in the race being taken out at the first corner but he put himself in that position tbf with his screw up in quali.

I'd like to see Sirotkin given a go at some point, his name's been bubbling around for a few years now, hope he's not the next Gary Paffett just missing out on a race seat again & again!

Posted by: Silas 12th May 2017, 09:51 AM

Nando got 3 corners into FP1 before the Honda disintegrated. Bless his soul he must be dying right now

Posted by: Mack 12th May 2017, 11:59 AM

He's continuing his run of poor luck at home. He never seems to be able to pull off a decent result in Barca.

Posted by: Mack 13th May 2017, 05:23 PM

Alonso qualifying in 7th place is probably my highlight of the year so far. Pushing that car to its limits.

thrilled for ricciardo gutted for max

Posted by: Silas 14th May 2017, 02:48 PM

He'd have had to make up 24 seconds in 16 laps. That's no impossible but I dunno if he'd have run the tyres ragged by the time he caught up to Hamilton so both would be on shite rubber.

Actually quite an enjoyable Spanish GP! Pleased as punch with 6th for Hulk!

Posted by: Silas 14th May 2017, 02:51 PM

Vandoorne has a 3 place penalty for Monaco as a result of the Massa incident. Not that it'll matter, he'll have like 15 places in Engine penalties anyway.

Force India have been summoned for breaking the new rules on number/name visibility. Red on Pink was a stupid choice but I don't recall seeing the names anywhere.

one of my fav Spanish GP's in a while. I got goosebumps when vettel left the pit stop and Hamilton tried to overtake. I am still gutted for max at the start tho ugh

Posted by: Silas 14th May 2017, 08:10 PM

I cheered when Vettel nudged him off the track to keep the lead! Was gutted when both of them went out, not as much as that kid though - It was super sweet when they showed that he'd gotten to meet Kimi wub.gif

I agree, it's been a while since there one was so good.

Posted by: Dobbo 15th May 2017, 04:09 PM

Another great Spanish GP, was fab to actually have some action at the front for once!

It's good to see them being more lax on incidents this season, a few of those yesterday would probably have brought about harsh pens in previous years.

Kimi P1 for the first time since France 2008

Posted by: Juranamo 27th May 2017, 08:03 PM

So finally, both McLarens make Q3... But both have engine change related penalties. Shame. Button has to settle for a P20 start on what is likely to be his last GP. sad.gif

Posted by: Mack 27th May 2017, 09:56 PM

That was frustrating for McLaren arguably their best qualifying session with both going through to Q3 with Alonso's 7th in Barcelona.

Should be a good race hopefully.

Posted by: Dobbo 28th May 2017, 08:47 PM

Well that race certainly livened up towards the end! Major oops moment from Button there.

Feel for Kimi, complete puppet in that Ferrari team, harks back to the Barrichello days.

Great to see Danny Ric on the podium!

Wow that whole podium ceremony was laughably unorganised.

Posted by: jakewild 29th May 2017, 10:23 AM

so pleased for ricciardo and vettel but gutted for kimi. 2nd is nothing to be sniffed at but i thought the race really was his as it went on. impressive improvement for hamilton too.

side note.. that minute silence was an absolute mess. people even on the track chatting and smiling during it. so disrespectful.

Unsure if anyone is bothered, but I've worked out how last years' championship would have panned out if the points system was still the same as before (10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1). Interestingly, Nico would have come second as Hamilton scored the same number of points but had more victories! Not at all that's very interesting thanks for that.

Reminds me of when Bernie penned that ridiculous medal system where it would be down to number of victories & there was an article revealing all the changes in titles throughout the history of the Sport had such system been in place from the start. I think Prost would have had like 6 titles & Mansell/Clark 2 extra.

against

as much as i'd selfishly like to watch more races i think there are even some current circuits that could be scrapped so adding more would just seem pointless. they should shake up the current calendar before even considering adding more imo.

sochi can go for a start..

Posted by: Silas 6th June 2017, 02:42 PM

I'm not against more Grand Prix provided the current calendar is adjusted.

The loss of Malaysia is not good as that's a good circuit and doesn't have a billion miles of run off. All these hyper-sterile Tilke droams can do one. Love that France is returning, but Paul Riccard. Nej takk.

Circuits like Spa and Nurbergring that punish driver who f*** up are where we need to be. Gravel traps are far better than concrete.

Interesting list there! Surprised in a way to see Monza up in second, I know it's a classic circuit n all but there hasn't been a truly exciting race there since what, 2008? Can't argue with a lot of the others, Imola would be amazing to see back & as for Laguna Seca, well seeing these wide F1 cars navigate The Corkscrew chicane would be quite the sight.

Shout out to Hungaroring too, been some absolute belters there the past few seasons.

Quite a good drive from Stroll. I have criticised him on here before. But he had a good drive and did well to finish 9th. That should settle some pressure for him.

Posted by: Juranamo 12th June 2017, 04:32 PM

I don't feel like Stroll's drive was particularly special, he was still way off the pace of the other Mercedes. This is just a track that he is especially familiar with (I'd assume) and the cars he was racing with (McLaren and Haas, in particular) didn't have the same straight line speed. He's still yet to impress me...

Palmer still struggling is a shame, and I would not want to be in Pérez's shoes right now. 🙈

It was a very good GP though, much more fun than the Monaco and Russian borefests!

As expected, very low figures for the Canadian Grand Prix:

Canada is on the Calendar until 2029!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Mack 13th June 2017, 08:28 PM

Wow!, that is great news to see Canada on the calendar until then.

Just an idea, Channel 4 try and put the US, Canada and Mexico live.

Posted by: Mack 14th June 2017, 07:51 AM

It'll be interesting to see what happens between the Force India drivers throughout the season after what happened in Canada. Would Ocon have got past Ricciardo, I don't think he would have.

Posted by: Mack 16th June 2017, 08:47 AM

I would like to see Kubica hopefully get a chance to have a seat in F1 again for next year.

Posted by: Silas 16th June 2017, 09:16 AM

I would too!!

Renault have since revealed that they only made a "very very minor" change to the wheel to accomodate Kubica's injury. They also said they never had a worry about his pace (but that he was as rapid as they had expected he would be. He was v.quick) but the thing they were all more concerned about was the endurance aspect but he went above and way beyond Renault and Kubica's own expectations and hopes

The way Renault are talking it doesn't sound like he will replace Palmer this year but he could be lined up for a 2018 drive and that'd be magnificent. I'd love to see him back in team bumblebee

Posted by: Mack 16th June 2017, 09:20 AM

Again it would be an remarkable comeback from him. He is an inspiration to any future drivers out there, that you don't give up on your dream in being a racing driver despite an career-threatening injury.

Posted by: Silas 16th June 2017, 09:22 AM

I agree! It really would be. It'd be such a great moment for sport in general to see him back in the sport competing. Even if it's just a year.

Hulk and Kubica would be a bloody good driver line up (as much as I'd love nando to drive for us again)

Posted by: Mack 17th June 2017, 10:56 PM

Surely Palmer's seat will be replaced mid season following his performance?

Posted by: Mack 20th June 2017, 07:16 PM

The provisional 2018 Calendar was released yesterday:

25 March: Australia (Melbourne)
8 April: China (Shanghai)
15 April: Bahrain (Sakhir)
29 April: Azerbaijan (Baku)
13 May: Spain (Barcelona)
27 May: Monaco
10 June: Canada (Montreal)
24 June: France (Paul Ricard)
1 July: Austria (Spielberg)
8 July: Great Britain (Silverstone)
22 July: Germany (Hockenheim)
29 July: Hungary (Budapest)
26 August: Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps)
2 September: Italy (Monza)
16 September: Singapore
30 September: Russia (Sochi)
7 October: Japan (Suzuka)
21 October: USA (Austin, TX)
28 October: Mexico (Mexico City)
11 November: Brazil (Sao Paulo)
25 November: Abu Dhabi (Yas Marina

Seriously what the hell with a triple header. 3 races back-to-back and yet the season will finishes near the end of November.

Posted by: Silas 21st June 2017, 09:44 AM

Monisha Klatenbourne has apparently parted ways with Sauber!!! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 21st June 2017, 10:16 AM

I don't think Ocon would have got past Ricciardo but it was poor from Perez to not allow him the chance, likelihood is he would have been let back past anyway but he should have yielded, he had nothing to lose really as he was never gonna keep Seb behind him.

Yeah I'm happy for Stroll to get some points, especially at his home race. Pretty good GP overall!

Posted by: Mack 22nd June 2017, 07:28 PM

And back to Baku we go. A pointless venue for a Grand Prix. Where would we see Azerbaijan and F1 in the same sentence, with the old fossil Bernie who decided to put a Grand Prix together with a $70 million per year deal.

The first race was so boring apart from Hamilton crashing in qualifying haha.

Posted by: Mack 24th June 2017, 07:15 PM

And once again it is the so-called 'Special One' he thinks he refers himself to on pole with Bottas on the front row.

It's hope there is at least some crashes in the race in an otherwise uninspiring circuit.

Posted by: jakewild 25th June 2017, 04:57 PM

what an eventful race! ia with ricciardo that i would have bet money on this NOT happening but i'm so glad it did with ricciardo poll, bottas coming back from last and stroll getting his first ever podium. brilliant finish. gutted for max once again with the engine failure. he's the king of the overtake and with so many safety cars deployed could have easily been a 1 2 for red bull 😟

Posted by: Mack 25th June 2017, 05:48 PM

QUOTE

Wrong about the uninspiring circuit, what a crazy Grand Prix that was probably the most craziest since the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix.

Fantastic to see Ricciardo win and a great comeback from Bottas from a lap down although helped by safety cars to finish second. And well done to Stroll who came third who get his cool to finish third.

If Force India hadn't collided, Ocon could have even won the race.

I think with Hamilton and Vettel, Vettel lunging into Hamilton was dangerous. Both incidents were dangerous indeed. Quite right that Vettel got a penalty but surely Hamilton should have got an penalty for brake testing. An very controversial incident. I'll be interested what people made of this incident.

Posted by: Ryan. 25th June 2017, 07:26 PM

I really liked this track when it appeared last year, and everything pointed towards a great race but that wasn't the case. Thankfully it delivered this year and then some! Agreed this could join the Canada 2011s in terms of most memorable grand prix ever, time will tell. Can't wait for our return to Baku next April!

I'm exhausted after watching it, such a roller coaster. Sad for Force India a potential double podium in the end was ruined but glad Ocon clawed back some points. Very pleased for Stroll, very impressive!

Posted by: Silas 25th June 2017, 09:31 PM

Of all the Grand Prix weekends to go on bloody holiday!!!! Thought I was safe as last years was pure shit. Am looking forward to catching up with this one when am back home

Posted by: Mack 25th June 2017, 09:32 PM

It's worth the watch for definite.

Posted by: Dobbo 27th June 2017, 12:07 PM

Oh my days. What. A. Race. Haven't been so hooked throughout ones entirety for many, many months. Agreed with the Canada 2011 comparisons but also the 2 Hungarian ones in 2014 & 2015 spring to mind.

Elated for Danny cheer.gif has a knack of winning the lotteries, was a shame for Lewis to lose out due to something like a headrest not being fitted but I'm just glad the victory was passed onto Ric.

As for Vettel, what an absolute disgrace he was. Very arguable indeed as to whether he was brake-tested, it's always the leading car that dictates the pace once the safety car pulls in & Seb simply misjudged it completely, I've seen him drive even slower than that back in the RBR days when he was out in front. To then go & channel his inner-Schumi and have the nerve to question why he got the penalty, what a twat.

Elsewhere it's a shame for Max with all these retirements, he'd have been on for the victory himself today had everything else remained as it were. And those Force Indias dammit! Another who had a great chance would have been Perez, long overdue a win he is.

Tell me about it! Reminds me of when I was away in 2012 as well for the Valencia GP which was historically awful but that year was a thriller.

And breathe.

Posted by: Silas 27th June 2017, 02:40 PM

I've only seen a replay of that incident on the FIA highlights but it looks like Vettel is completely in the wrong. Had he not been a child and done the nudge (which as a hater of Hamilton I did enjoy seeing some instant karma come his way, shame it didn't break his suspension tbh) I think there could have been an argument for driving at an unsafe speed behind the safety car but he didn't slow down. He just crawled through the corner and then didn't accelerate hoping to back the pack into each other as they cornered because he's a complete knobend (I probably would have done the same but I'm a bit of a knobend when I get super competitive).

Vettel could have argued that he was expecting him to accelerate out of the corner and not got a penalty for running into him. But he undid his moral high ground with his nudge.

FIA Data says Hamilton didn't brake and he did same as last safety car restart in exact same spot so as much as it makes me vom to type this, he is in the right.

Posted by: Silas 28th June 2017, 07:06 PM

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-vettel-fia-investigation-ferrari-924519/?s=1

He was in the wrong but if they ban Vettel for a race and that makes the difference in the championship I think that might destroy the credibility of the Sport. It will look like they sabotaged Vettel to coronate Hamilton.

Posted by: Mack 29th June 2017, 12:21 PM

Yes, Vettel shouldn't have done what he had but he doesn't need to be punished any further. If he gets a ban for it, it would damage the credibility of the sport. Events like this should be settled on the day of the race at least. He got an 10-second penalty for it. He's got the penalty points on his licence.

Look at Maldonado's swipe at Hamilton back in Spa 2011, he got an five-place grid penalty for that. For taking a swipe on the approach to Eau Rouge.

Posted by: Dobbo 29th June 2017, 05:57 PM

Whilst I wouldn't like to see a race ban given to him, they have to look at this particular matter more seriously. He was already in their bad books for openly swearing at Charlie Whiting at Mexico last year & warned him then any more trouble and there could be further repercussions.

And compare his move to Schumi at Jerez 97, he was disqualified from the entire championship never mind just the next race. OK that was at race speed but the intention appeared to be of a similar nature. I personally think the 10 place stop-go was just about enough however, I think the main reason it appeared not so harsh to some was the fact that he ultimately finished ahead of Lewis due to his freak issue. Had that not happened Vettel would have lost the lead in the title race & most people would have been like "well, that stop-go was punishment enough".

He gotta be a good boy at Austria though or the race ban will be unavoidable.

Posted by: Mack 2nd July 2017, 04:44 PM

It could be that Vettel gets a grid penalty when the FIA meet up to decide what action take. Although yes it look he meant to do that. I wouldn't be surprised if Vettel and Hamilton clashed again later in the season.

Posted by: Silas 3rd July 2017, 10:11 PM

No further action after Vettel apologised.

Posted by: Mack 4th July 2017, 11:42 AM

Didn't think he'll get punished for it. He's apologised. So we move on to Austria.

In other news-

Robert Kubica is set to get another test for Renault- no news on when that will be.

Posted by: Silas 4th July 2017, 12:39 PM

Yaaaaaaaaaaaas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I was Palmer I'd be feeling very uncomfortable.

Last Renault were saying it was all "yeah it was amaze but it was just a one off" to "he's not currently on our list for 2018"

Posted by: Silas 4th July 2017, 04:21 PM

Kubica reporting that theres a 80-90% chance he'll be back in F1. Renault test is this month at an undisclosed local. Also rumours of Palmer being brexited at the summer break in favour of Kubica are intensifying. That particular mill also says that Kubica was quicker in the Simulator at Enstone than Hulk

Posted by: Dobbo 4th July 2017, 08:02 PM

Would love to see Kubica back in the Sport and as much as I was backing Palmer to do well this season, it just simply isn't happening so I'm all for this potential mid-season switcheroo!

Posted by: Mack 6th July 2017, 12:08 PM

And once again rolleyes.gif the future of the British Grand Prix is in doubt over Silverstone apparently looking to terminate their contract to host it after 2019.

Posted by: Silas 6th July 2017, 10:48 PM

I don't think it's in doubt, Brands Hatch are supposedly willing to snatch it. It's just for a better deal and I don't blame them.

Renault have confirmed that this second Kubica test at Paul Ricard next week is for him to test his capabilities to return to the top level of competition. AKA an audition.

Good win for Bottas though in a mostly dull race.

Great to see Ricciardo on the podium again. Well played Daniel.

As expected, Silverstone have decided to drop F1 after 2019 because of costs unless there is a new deal. Shame to see that happen.

Posted by: Dobbo 11th July 2017, 10:11 PM

Yeah seems a little more alarming this time round as opposed to the umpteen times this debate has reared it's ugly head in the past. I'll remain confident for now some deal can be agreed but this would be the biggest miss in the calendar if it were to happen.

I would be amazed if Brands Hatch ever hosted another Grand Prix. The circuit just doesn't meet current safety standards and I can't imagine they have the funds to completely rework the site.

Add to that, the restricted usage of the full circuit due to noise complaints. I think Donnington Park would be a more likely replacement, assuming it is nearly to Grand Prix standards (as it was looking to replace Silverstone a few years back iirc).

I was at Donnington last month (although not the circuit) and the road access and site facilities are certainly superior to Spa. It's a great track too so I would imagine so

I do feel we really do need a British Grand Prix in F1. No matter where it is. It's a shame that Silverstone looks very likely to drop F1. Can't see Brands Hatch or Donington Park hosting F1.

F1 Live in London streaming now, and is being co-hosted by Rochelle from The Saturdays! kink.gif

All the drivers including Rosberg and Button seem to be there, except for Lewis Hamilton who hasn't turned up. This is exactly why he's by far my least favourite driver.

Posted by: Ryan. 12th July 2017, 06:05 PM

Damon Hill saying if we all wish, Hamilton could win the British Grand Prix and an eruption of boos from the audience! laugh.gif Glad people are realising what Hamilton is like, he can't even turn up to see thousands of fans in his home capital city in a once-in-a-lifetime fan event.

Posted by: Silas 13th July 2017, 09:40 AM

Even Liberty Global had a dig at Hamilton for not attended by saying they were loved the participation of "all teams and 19 drivers".

No excuse for Hamilton not being there. Hes paid more than enough, this is part of his job.

In other news today there are rumours that Sauber-Honda is dead before it began. Apparently Honda pulled out after Monisha was pushed out. Renault's short lived TP Vasseur replaces her. (I'd happily do a swap and take Monisha in some capacity at RF1)

Pity he had a 30-place grid penalty looming (and Vandoorne outqualified him regardless surprisingly).

What a monstrous lap from Lewis! Didn't actually realise Bottas had a grid penalty that's a bit of a shame.

Bit of a gutter for Danny Ric but I suppose it's about time something happened to his car instead of Max for once...

great for red bull this race (considering), not very good for ferrari. both getting punctures in the last laps what's with that?

I disagree, yes the Silverstone fans will be pleased but Lewis has done the same as every other driver would do at their home grand prix and importantly so. The fact he can't go above and beyond his grand prix weekend duties to interact with his London fans when every single other driver could is very disappointing, and the London crowd made that evident.

If Lewis had a good reason for missing the London event then fair enough but a 2 day holiday in Greece (I believe) doesn't seem to be a good reason when he gets paid millions and millions of pounds per year to be an F1 driver which comes with responsibilities outside of a grand prix weekend.

What makes Silverstone Lewis fans more important than London Lewis fans, and with both being in his home country I imagine there were thousands of them at both events?

Posted by: Bairlas 16th July 2017, 06:58 PM

He partied with Beiber in Greece instead of turning up to London. He 'needed a break' when there's a mid season break starting errrr now.

I'm not much of a Hamilton fan - I think he's overrated as a driver and a bit of an arse, but a during his time at McLaren a friend of mine made an advert for Santander and both Hamilton and Button were involved. It got canned when Hamilton announced he was leaving for Mercedes shortly after.
My friend did say that whilst Hamilton was away from the media he was a delight and came across as thoroughly likeable, to the point were my friend couldn't equate the public persona with the private one yet as soon as he had to present himself for the cameras he became awkward and came across as rude and stand-offish, and it suddenly made sense.
Button was apparently exactly the same and totally at ease in both situations.

I agree that Hamilton comes across as a surly, spoiled brat on race weekends (especially if it isn't going his way) and I know that doesn't tell the whole story and I agree not doing the London event was a huge faux pas again.
It just seems he finds that side of the business really difficult and it brings out the worst in him

That's really interesting! Usually when you hear about public/private persona's it's the other way round and they're a lewis Hamilton in private and a Dany ric in public.

Personality aside, he's so vastly overrated. This is his 4th year in a row in the dominant car that has only just got a car that's sorta close to them. f***ing dead person could have come second in the drivers WC with that thing this past 3 years
QUOTE(Mack @ Jul 16 2017, 10:53 PM) *
Silverstone would be a massive loss to the calendar.

Crazy last couple of laps did Verstappen have a puncture?

Solid and good drive from Hulkenberg in the Renault to finish 6th.

Some shit driving from Kvyat once again.

Hulk did mega wub.gif what a babe. The new floor Renault brought is clearly LIT. This can only bode well for 2018.

Max has said they saw what happened to Kimi and pitted to prevent it happening to them as their tyre had a lot of flat spots. He's said that they didn't think they could have got 3rd even without the pit stop.

Kvyat claiming he's being discriminated against by the stewards :') Stop driving like a f***ing plonker mate, it ain't demolition derby.

Not the same sport it used to be ever since all these rule changes a few years back, and I cannot stand Lewis!.

Also, do Channel 4 have all these silly film clips when its British GP weekend?. BBC's clip of Lewis "playing" an acoustic guitar still leaves a scar on the brain, let alone a bunch of people crowding round a driver when they are being interviewed.

Used to love this sport, now it's Moto GP taking its place for me.

The only Channel 4 viewer on here myself. They didn't really have any silly film clips on the programme.

Hope Sky's Martin Brundle is well after being taken unwell from what I heard.

Paul Di Resta stepped in for Commentary, he did pretty well I thought. Was always a shame his career ended when it did.

Posted by: Mack 21st July 2017, 12:29 PM

Paul Di Resta was an underrated driver, I felt. I felt he could have an similar path to his career in F1 like Hulkenberg. He's a far better driver than Palmer.

In other news-

Looks like the 'halo' device will be introduced next year according to the FIA.

Haas announced on Friday that Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen will remain in the team for next year.

And Renault today officially confirmed Kubica will drive the 2017 Renault F1 car at the post-Hungary test

Posted by: Mack 25th July 2017, 07:45 AM

That is great and exciting news about Kubica driving the 2017 Renault car at the post-Hungary post. We shall see if he is able to drive the car with ease without any problems. If so, no reason why we won't hear an announcement to say he'll be driving at the Belgian Grand Prix.

I think Palmer being binned for Belgium depends on how he performs at Hungary in a car that works. If he under performs in quali again and only finishes 11th then he'll be a goner. (Depending of course on how hulk goes but I imagine he will score points given the floor upgrade that had the Renault singing at silverstone)

Posted by: Bairlas 29th July 2017, 09:52 AM

Scoop on SkySports as they've just caught the pedals coming out of Massas car. After he was unwell last night it looks like Di Resta is coming in for Massa for Quali and the Race having never driven the 2017 Williams ever

Posted by: Bairlas 29th July 2017, 10:53 AM

Now confirmed. Di Resta will race for the first time since 2013!

Posted by: Dobbo 30th July 2017, 02:35 PM

A race that looked as if were building up to something exciting but ultimately never delivered. Hopefully those 3 points Lewis handed back will become nothing more than academic come the year end whichever way the title goes, fair play from Merc there tho!

This does seem to be the season of team mate collisions, bit clumsy from Max there at the start.

Decent result for McLaren today, double points finish & the fastest lap!

And lastly good on Di Resta this weekend, a solid drive & shame it ended in a DNF.

Posted by: Bairlas 30th July 2017, 03:47 PM

Nico had a few choice words about KMag after the race!! That was a bit of a moment there with him just shoving Nico off into the grass. 5 secs felt like a bit of a weak penalty

Posted by: Mack 1st August 2017, 07:17 PM

Interesting exchanges at the end and now Hulkenberg is calling KMag as trying to be like Verstappen or something.

Posted by: Bairlas 1st August 2017, 08:02 PM

Team Hulkenberg tbh.

KMag wasn't sporting with his defence there in the slightest. He was moaning about Hulk v Gro at turn 1 which no doubt caused his actions. I need another look at that, it felt like that Grosjean turned into Hulk more than Hulk causing that one.

I liked KMag at Renault last year but that was just a big naw, on a Renault Driver or not.

Posted by: Bairlas 1st August 2017, 08:03 PM

Tomorrow should be interesting through as it is Kubica vs the RS17.

Jolyon Palmer currently stabbing a billion voodoo dolls

Posted by: Dobbo 1st August 2017, 10:14 PM

Haha! Had not seen that confrontation yet, reminded me of Hamilton vs Massa at Singapore 2011 (I think?) - "Don't touch me".

The turn 1 defence was very Max but that particular rule was outlawed & he made the swerve early enough so that was fair game but yeah the next hairpin he left him no room at all, can understand the sarcastic reaction.

Posted by: Bairlas 2nd August 2017, 08:05 AM

A lot of people on Motorsport.com we're saying the same thing! It was Massa/Hamilton

Today is 5% work, 95% compulsively checking twitter and the live SkySports blog for testing updates on Kubica. I'm praying it goes well for him. There's nothing I'd rather see than Kubica replacing Palmer tbh. He's just done a 9 lap run posting a 1:22.130 as his quickest time. 12 laps in total!

Posted by: Bairlas 2nd August 2017, 01:35 PM

Kubica almost at 110 laps. Currently confusing Motorsport.com by doing an outlap, flying lap, in lap, hitting his marks in the pit box and repeating. This really feels like Renault are working on race craft to me of both a quali session and pit stops - after all don't need the mechanics for the driver to practise the pit stop bits.

Posted by: Mack 3rd August 2017, 12:21 PM

It was fantastic to see Kubica back in a F1 car again. Never thought I would see that happen again.

Posted by: Bairlas 3rd August 2017, 02:46 PM

Should we have a death pool on Palmers career?

Posted by: TroyTempest 11th August 2017, 09:59 PM

When Perez, Alonso and even Sainz are being touted for Palmers seat, along with Sirotkin, Rowland and Latifi from Renaults junior team. I doubt Renault actually consider Kubica a serious option for Palmer, and it's more to do with promotion.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 13th August 2017, 09:59 AM

Kubica has comprehensively thrashed all three juniors times in testing, none of them are viable options. Alonso won't move because Renault can't give him a winning car and they're being very blunt about that fact now. Alonso will stay put. I can only see Perez moving for a Ferrari seat (as has been rumoured before) and Ocon is a more likely target for a second FI raid given he's French. Red Bull have doubled down on the Sainz is contracted talk recently so that's unlikely too, but that could happen as part of a divorce between Toro Rosso and Renault to allow TR to take Honda engines.

Realisticly Kubica is a fast choice, a proven GP winner and is supposedly outstanding at giving engineers feedback and car development. Given where Renault is right now a fast pacey driver who will develop the f*** out of their car is probably exactly what they need. PR benefit is added bonus

Posted by: Mack 27th August 2017, 03:02 PM

An all right race but Hamilton won.

What was that with Perez + Ocon. Perez at blame there. Won't be surprised if one moved teams.

Posted by: Dobbo 28th August 2017, 05:53 PM

I need to see the incident again but was it really Perez's fault? Looked like he was just taking the natural line rather than pushing Ocon into the wall then Ocon was the one who barged past aggressively at Eau Rouge. I was sat in a foreign bar so will need to rewatch it on Sky Sports F1 HD laugh.gif

Record-breaker cheer.gif and just casually over a second quicker than everyone else smoke.gif

Great effort from Stroll, front row for him. It's a shame everything is blighted by all these penalties but at least it means we'll have some overtaking tomorrow with the RBRs carving their way through the field.

Posted by: Ryan. 2nd September 2017, 06:33 PM

Wet sessions are always the best! heart.gif Nuisance Hamilton ruining a Stroll/Ocon front row! sad.gif

I'll be intrigued to see how long Stroll and Ocon hold up the Ferraris (and potentially Red Bulls) tomorrow, the Force India in particular always tops the speed traps.

That was a great wet session there although glad to see Grosjean was all right. Great laps from Ocon and Stroll.

Rumours of Sainz driving for Renault for next year looking quite likely now.

Posted by: Mack. 11th September 2017, 10:04 PM

There is a rumour Kubica might go to Williams as it be his only real option but I wouldn't be surprised in Mercedes block that and try to get Wehrlein a Williams seat as he is on his way out of Sauber.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 12th September 2017, 10:29 PM

Williams have put their 2018 driver talks on hold for the 2017 midfield battle. They are so waiting to see what Renault does first. It is so obvious they may as well have just openly said it.

It looks like Singapore is about to be the start of a set of dominos that will trigger the end of Silly Season.

- Torro Rosso is terminating it's Renault contract in favour of a Honda supply deal.
- In order to terminate said deal, Torro Rosso are releasing Sainz to Renault F1.
- McLaren are terminating their Honda deal.
- McLaren are taking out a supply deal with Renault*
- Alonso stays at McLaren-Renault.
- Renault are heavily considering terminating Palmer immediately after the Singapore Grand Prix.
- To really keep Renault sweet, Torro Rosso will release Sainz to Renault effective from Malaysia should Renault sack Palmer.
- Torro Rosso will call up Gasly as Sainz's replacement.

*This looks like it's until the end of the 2020 season. McLaren are currently considering developing their own engine for 2021 onwards if the costs can be controlled.

Posted by: Mack. 13th September 2017, 11:42 AM

Confirmed as expected that Bottas will stay at Mercedes for next year.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 15th September 2017, 09:25 AM

Rumour mill in overdrive. Latest is that Renault have told Red Bull to get f***ed and to find a new engine supplier after the 2018 season.

Don't blame Renault. They're being forced out of a multi-year Torro Rosso deal that's a barely concealed forerunner to getting the senior team to be the Honda works team when the engines are ready. Why wouldn't they want to jack it in and get rid of someone who never praises when they win 4 world championships but throw them under the bus at all other times

Yup! All confirmed with a 1 year release for Sainz and 3 years for both engine deals

Posted by: Juranamo 15th September 2017, 02:48 PM

I think Palmer's safe till the end of the season, he seems to be in the running for Williams' second seat next year (as well as Kubica and di Resta). Failing that he could possibly move to Sauber (I don't think they've confirmed either Wehrlein or Ericsson for next year yet - I wouldn't be surprised if Ericsson was culled, though I'd imagine he brings in a fair wedge). I really do hope he can get a deal for next year, as I do like the chap and want to see more from him!

Posted by: Mack. 16th September 2017, 09:56 PM

Hopefully tomorrow will be a cracking race.

Expect a safety car for sure in Singapore as there has been at one every year since 2008.

Posted by: dandy* 17th September 2017, 02:16 PM

Dear lord that was a LONG race.

Posted by: Mack. 17th September 2017, 09:39 PM

Apparently it is the first time ever that both Ferraris have gone out on the first lap in F1 history.

Posted by: Dobbo 18th September 2017, 07:52 AM

Well that start was literally the dream Lewis had the night before!

Have to say, can't really pin the blame on anyone really. Vettel moved over at the start but that is the natural thing to do for the pole-sitter, he just had a crap start & obviously wasn't expecting Kimi to have a blinder! The real losers out of all of this are Ferrari, not just for the result but for having the audacity to fully blame Verstappen over Twitter - quite rightly they were torn to shreds, just typical Ferrari behaviour really.

Kind of a shame in a way as that made the result pretty much certain from the start but a Lewis & Danny top 2, can't complain at that myself biggrin.gif

Still some decent battles in midfield, Magnussen getting very punchy was a highlight. Fantastic for Sainz in 4th!

I agree ...only if we're counting Top 3 action. Further down the lineup there were some really interesting showcases of skill that some drivers have struggled to show previously. Some Magnussaction was a pleasure to see, yes he's not quite at the same level as Grosjean yet, but what he did during this race before his car started suffering from issues was quite brilliant to watch. I also loved watching Jo take Bottas, if he wasn't plagued with such poor reliability, I reckon he'd score a bunch more points (not to the same degree as Hulky, but he is much more experienced in F1).

On the subject of Palmer, I do hope he can squeeze his way into Williams next year. If I were them, I'd consider it a bit premature to take on Kubica and I think Palmer's recent experience in F1 racing (not just testing) should edge him over di Resta. If Ericsson doesn't retain his Sauber drive next season (I hear Ferrari as part of the engine deal, one of Giovinazzi and Leclerc will have a seat there, but they are trying to push for both), I can't see Williams taking him on unless they really need the cash injection.

Posted by: Severin 18th September 2017, 04:00 PM

I agree there was some decent stuff from further back and it's always nice to see that but let's be honest. We NEED to see the front runners actually racing each other occasionally. F1 may be the pinnacle of motor-racing technologically speaking, and it does have most of the worlds best drivers but in terms of circuit variety and racing excitement it's way behind Indycar at the moment

Circuit variety in F1 is a big issue I feel. Back in the 90s there was a good range of tracks before Tilkeification took over!

Posted by: Mack. 18th September 2017, 06:08 PM

What Tilke did to Hockenheim was unforgivable. That long straight.
We want to see at least the Top4 teams battling for the win e.g. 2003.

I'm hopeful that Palmer will be dispatched early to collect his long overdue P45.

Rumour was Renault didn't want him for 2016 but his contract was watertight so they stuck with him. Then the car was such a dog no one wanted the seat and he had improved in the second half of the season. However this year he's been deadweight. If he hadn't scored points on a weekend when 3 of the top 6 and Hulk (so 4 of the top 7 cars) didn't finish he'd deserved to have been fired over the radio at the checkered flag. 13 cars finished. Until hulk had a reliability issue he was on the podium. A podium paced car came 6th so let's not pretend he's suddenly even worth of a sauber drive.

Posted by: Mack. 23rd September 2017, 09:54 PM

Reports that is between Massa, Di Rests and Kubica for the Williams seat.

If I were Toro Rosso, I would drop Kvyat at the end of the season.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 24th September 2017, 10:34 AM

Di Resta did a solid job at Hungary. I never felt that he deserved to lose a drive so it would be good to see him back

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 26th September 2017, 08:54 AM

Kvyat dropped for Malaysia and Japan in favour of a trial run for Gasly. Kvyat will return for Austin as it clashes with the last round of Super GP or whatever it is Gasly drives in currently. They are trailing him for 2018

Posted by: Mack. 26th September 2017, 12:11 PM

Can't see Kvyat staying next year. Not surprised really to hear that he is being replaced. He's never shown any of his 'potential' since he got dropped last year.

Posted by: Lenny 26th September 2017, 04:21 PM

If Toro Rosso have any sense, they'll bin Kvyat for next season. Although really will it matter who they have in the car given they've opted for Honda engines?

Posted by: Juranamo 27th September 2017, 09:50 AM

Kvyat's deadwood. If he's not slow, he's crashing. He had his chance with in a Red Bull and just wasn't good enough.

Regarding the Williams sitch, I know the rumours are that they're deciding between Massa, di Resta and Kubica, but I honestly do believe that they're waiting to see how Jo performs in the next few races following on from his decent performance in Singapore. Yes, only 12 cars finished - but it was in quite challenging conditions (if the first corner incident wasn't enough to prove that, then Kvyat and Ericsson walling their cars surely does?). I seriously do think he's still in the running, plus his dad's chopper was spotted at Williams' HQ a week or so ago which leads me to believe discussions are being made.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 27th September 2017, 10:50 AM

Id rather have Kvyat than 50,000,000 Palmers. He only got a drive in the first place because Renault weren’t quick enough to do the deal before his daddy’s cheque bought Lotus another 3 weeks of operations at the end of 2015. Renault didn’t want either driver they inherited and for good reason

Posted by: Juranamo 27th September 2017, 11:12 AM

I'm sorry (well not really ha), but if they really didn't want Jo in 2015, Renault would not have re-signed him at the end of 2016 in a billion years. He was the GP2 champion in 2014 and really improved towards the end of last season. If they didn't want him, they'd have taken on another Maldonado or something. He has shown this year that he's been quite capable of reaching Q3 and has done well in the races, but has also been hit by poor reliability more often than Hulk. Yes, he's not as quick as Hülkenberg, but he's also a lot less experienced in F1. I actually believe he's getting there and I think (whether this is me being deluded or not, I don't know) Williams haven't made a decision yet, purely because they want to see how he reacts to the Singapore result.

Posted by: Mack. 27th September 2017, 11:17 PM

They offered the seat to literally half the grid before they settled. They only resigned him over a rookie because he improved at the end of the year. Renault have tried to buy him out of his contract this year.

Mate honestly, delusional is exactly the word I’d use. If he wasn’t British he’d have no supporters at all. Don’t see Eriksson getting this kind of support and they’re both shite pay drivers who deserve their P45s. He’s made Q3 what? Twice? That car is now the 4th fastest on the grid and he still fails to make it out of Q2. That’s indefensible. (Half his unreliability issues can probably be related to him ditching it into the wall earlier in the weekend. Funny how his reliability has picked up now he’s no longer driving into the barriers 3 times a weekend)

If he ends up at Williams then I think it’d truly be fitting for their decline. He’s not good enough for a 2018 Manor drive.

He did very well in practice today, did Pierre Gasley. Still not sure whether he's only in the seat for 2 races or taken over Kvyat's seat for the rest of the season.

I would again love to see Kubica back on the grid next year it depends how he does on his test drive with Williams.

A possibility that rain will play a part during this weekend. If it doesn't just rain in Malaysia does it? It chucks down with rain.

Will anyone miss Malaysia on the calendar?

Yeah Sepang is most certainly Tilks'e best ever work^ sad to see this one go!

Very happy for Max winning today, especially after the misfortune he's had previously this season - and this one fully on merit! Not a vintage Malaysian GP but an interesting watch. The highlight was most definitely after the race with Vettel & Stroll rotf.gif

This title race is by no means over, Merc looked well off the pace today. Sets it up very well for Suzuka!

Weird incident between Stroll & Vettel. Don't think I've ever seen someone hit each other on the slowing down lap.

waking up at 6am hungover to watch live was definitely worth it with max winning. without a doubt my fav current driver and 2 red bulls on podium was the icing on the cake. vettel coming 20th to 4th was nice to see too.

really hoping for gasly 2018 torro rosso

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 3rd October 2017, 05:12 PM

I think Gasly did a solid job this weekend! Should be a lock for 2018 I'd hope. Especially as the RBR Jnr Drivers programme is a little sparse of other talent at the moment.

Di Resta and Kubica are to test the 2014 Williams this month as part of the battle for that seat. Massa also in the frame and Weherlin is apparently 4th in the order. Distant 4th but still on their radar. No news on Palmer which I assume means they've rightly discounted him.

Palmer set to be dropped after the Japanese Grand Prix with Sainz Jr taking over his drive and Kvyat is back in the wheel for Toro Rosso with Gasly for USA.

Love a bit of F1 musical chairs me!

DING DONG PALMERS GONE!!!!!!!!!

18 months later than when he should have gone tbh but I’m so glad he’s finally gone. Never deserved a factory drive but tbf it’s not as if the 2016 car was up to anything

cencecutive red bull top 3 y e sss

vettel is having no luck ugh

Posted by: HobDoblin 9th October 2017, 09:15 PM

Looks pretty much all over now, come on title #4 cheer.gif

I did really want this one to go all the to wire though, a shame we've been robbed of potentially a great climax to the season but I guess that's just the unpredictable nature of F1. Last year Lewis had zero luck this year he's benefitted from Seb's misfortune, comes & goes! (unless you're Mark Webber).

Hoping the Red Bulls can keep us this strong run of form & pinch a couple more wins before the season is up!

Posted by: HeadlessJockey 9th October 2017, 09:44 PM

And hoping that Red Bull can keep this form next year. Shame to see it not going to the wire though.

Gasly is set to miss the US Grand Prix to complete the finale of Super Formula. No news yet on who will replace him.

Posted by: HobDoblin 12th October 2017, 06:27 PM

Palmer? tongue.gif

Posted by: HeadlessJockey 13th October 2017, 08:04 PM

New Zealander Brendan Hartley will be Gasly's replacement for the US Grand Prix.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 20th October 2017, 06:27 PM

Renault have put Hulk, Hartley and Max onto a new Engine (as they are at the end of their life). The new Engine though has a hybrid 2017/18 ICE fitted to it. Renault are testing some of the 2018 upgrades in the 2017 PU package to get some testing milage on them. Smart! will be interesting to see the bump it makes.

A shit decision as described by Mark Webber on Verstappen's penalty for 'gaining an advantage' on the final lap when passing Kimi.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 22nd October 2017, 09:49 PM

Shit is putting it rather politely. Shameful. It was a fantastic move and there’s been plenty of the same from Bottas today going unpunished so precious mercy can get their constructors title.

Posted by: HeadlessJockey 22nd October 2017, 10:34 PM

Is just a coincidence that the FIA website is unavailable following Verstappen's demotion? Noticed Jos describing the decision as bollocks on tweets and the FIA being known as the Ferrari Intervention Association.

Posted by: Severin 22nd October 2017, 11:25 PM

Strictly speaking Verstappen did break the rules but then again the rules are crap.

On the plus side it was actually a really good race. We should celebrate that for they are rare

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 22nd October 2017, 11:30 PM

Bottas did twice leave track limits and gained an advantage while fighting the red bulls. So the stewards are pricks for sure.

It was a good race. Plenty of overtakes and nice to see Sainz settle in so quickly!!! The shit before the race and the penalty at the end was utterly embarrassing tho

Posted by: Juranamo 23rd October 2017, 10:36 AM

As mentioned in the post race commentary, if the FIA want to run these races on these too mistake-forgiving circuits with huge run off areas and meters of tarmac between the track and grass, these sorts of things are going to happen and happened multiple times during this race. I really don’t like the way these circuits are heading, even classic tracks like Suzuka are being ruined with run off areas in favour of more punishing gravel traps. sad.gif

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 23rd October 2017, 02:50 PM

Your sig finished that post off perfectly!!!

I completely agree. The tarmac run off areas are a shambles. Rip em up. Give us gravel back!!

It will be Hartley and Gasly for Toro Rosso in Mexico it appears that finally Kvyat has been dropped for good.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 24th October 2017, 09:53 AM

Torro Rosso haven’t confirmed the final 2 races yet so we shall see. But I agree it’s not looking promising for Kyvat.

Williams want their 2018 driver situation sorted before Brazil so they can give Massa a send off

Posted by: HobDoblin 29th October 2017, 09:33 PM

Get in there, 4 times a champ! Nice try there Sebby wink.gif

At least it made for an entertaining race, definitely a welcome return to the calendar these past few years for Mexico.

I'm also beginning to wonder if Danny & Max swapped cars for the final 5 or 6 races. How the pendulum has swung!

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 29th October 2017, 09:45 PM

Great win from Max. Shame to see it take another undeserved WC for the combination of Merc and the arrogant one but until a manufacturer can finally pull out an engine mode that's better than the Merc Q3 mode F1 will continue to be a charade.

Pretty much the worst possible weekend for Renault after they announce they are pulling out of Formula E to focus on F1. Ya know, the one series we actually win.

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 3rd November 2017, 11:49 AM

Indeed a great professional win from Verstappen. Drove an fantastic race from start to finish.

Posted by: Juranamo 3rd November 2017, 02:52 PM

Excellent drive from Max, with all the Renaults dropping left right and centre he must’ve been shitting bricks. laugh.gif

Rumour has it Sauber will be running Charles Leclerc and Marcus Ericsson next year. Ericsson isn’t a foregone conclusion though as Sauber say his financial backing isn’t a priority and they need the best fit for the long-term. Ferrari are also still trying to convince them to take on Giovinazzi, and they are trying to convince Haas give him a drive too (despite Haas already confirming they are running the same line-up next year, and I believe both are in contract... who knows). Toro Rosso look likely to run Pierre Gasly & Brendon Hartley (they seem happy with the results both have been getting) so the only seat that remains pretty much a complete open book is Williams’ second seat...

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 4th November 2017, 06:59 PM

Massa retires from F1, again.

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 9th November 2017, 10:56 PM

GP3 champion George Russell will be driving for Force India in the first Friday practice sessions at Brazil & Abu Dhabi.

Between then Kubica, Di Resta or rumours of Kvyat and Wehrlein being talked.

Posted by: Juranamo 10th November 2017, 09:11 AM

I can’t see Wehrlein or Kvyat getting the drive. As much as Mercedes want Pascal in the seat, Martini require one of the drivers to be at least 25 so that pretty much rules either of them out. Wehrlein has hardly been outshining Ericsson and Kvyat is too much of a risky move for them to piss off Martini...

Definitely loving the Mexican GP! One of my favourite circuits on the calendar. I've invested in an F1 game for the first time in a decade and a half so have been learning a load of the new tracks since. I used to race on the old version of the Mexican circuit which was great but the changes they have made are fantastic - particularly that stadium section at the end. Also the Chinese and American circuits are excellent!

Also have been thinking the same re: Max and Daniel! Although it really is just down to the power unit parts they're fitting. Max must've got the duds earlier in the season and now Daniel is getting them. Just by chance.

Massa retires from F1, again.

Have to say I'm glad - it was weird seeing him almost begging for a race seat for next season after he was supposed to retire 12 months ago.

Kimi should really be next. He's not the driver he was, as much as I like him.

Re: the Williams seat, I've heard ANOTHER name has been added to the mix in Felix Rosenqvist...

Posted by: D0bz 12th November 2017, 11:29 PM

Enjoyable race for what it was worth today with Hammo & Danny Ric scything their way through the field.

Posted by: Juranamo 17th November 2017, 08:05 AM

Gasly and Hartley have now been confirmed as Toro Rosso’s 2018 lineup. Just the two Sauber seats and the remaining Williams one left to be confirmed!

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 17th November 2017, 08:26 AM

Not sure that Hartley is an upgrade on Kyvat tbh

Posted by: Juranamo 17th November 2017, 07:25 PM

Red Bull have made it clear that Kvyat has reached a dead-end. The goal for Toro Rosso is basically to test out drivers with a view to moving them up to the main team. Kvyat has hardly set the track alight since being stepped down, and has rightly been given the boot.

Whether Hartley is an improvement on Kvyat or not, only time will tell. Considering he hasn’t raced single seaters in a few years, he’s been incredibly quick (similarly paced to Gasly, who has recently competed in Japanese Super Formula & GP2). I have no doubt he’ll work hard over winter to improve and become more worthy of the drive.

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 17th November 2017, 08:21 PM

I'll give Hartley half a season if he doesn't score any points or impress.

Sauber looking set to reveal their 2018 driver line up during the weekend at Abu Dhabi.

Posted by: jakewild 27th November 2017, 01:45 PM

and the wait for march begins 🙁

wtf @ the new logo too.. the previous one is so clever and iconic it didn’t need to change

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 29th November 2017, 08:15 PM

The new logo is truly hideous.

Alfa Romeo is returning to the grid as the title sponsor and technical partner of Sauber!!!

The wait until testing starts again at the end of feb is too long sad.gif

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 29th November 2017, 11:21 PM

The new logo is pretty shit to be honest, don't like it at all.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 2nd December 2017, 10:58 AM

Eriksson stays for 2018 ohmy.gif

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 3rd December 2017, 12:49 AM

Very surprised that Ericsson is staying for next year. Money talks?, no points this year with Wehrlein not even having a drive for 2018.

Lederec has joined Alfa Romeo Sauber as well.
