Being a new Take That fan and my family being hardcore fans who have loved them from the very beginning it makes me ask... Who loves the boys from the very beginning and their love has carried on from when they got back together or who like me has fell inlove with their old stuff because of their new stuff?

I had two older sisters who loved Take That one especially and their albums Everything Changes and Nobody Else were played in the car a lot by my Mum also.
This was when I was 6-8 so '93-95 period and as a young male fan there wasn't the stigma that would have come had I been a teenager.
Before being a teenager I wasn't really into music and didn't follow or love music in the way most other children appeared to who all knew the chart songs and bands etc.

However the three I loved were Take That , Michael Jackson and East 17 (I actually initially liked them pre Take That and especially House of Love, Around the World and Stay Another Day! I remember my sister who was the bigger TT fan out of the two older sisters being agast when she found out (she is 1 and half years older) I liked East 17 and looking fumed bursting into my room and asking 'why do you like them we only listen to Take That in this house'?!!
I loved watching Take That Live in Berlin also a lot when I was younger and I thought Robbie was funny but Howard and Jason were my favourites because of the break dancing!

My musical likes changed a lot when I was a teenager and I adore bands like Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, Fightstar, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Calling, Nickelback and Linkin Park now and still.
However I still love Take That and their new music which is just great decent pop , sounds and lyrics.
Pop wise they are definitely aside from Michael Jackson also the only pop act I've had multiple songs of on my iPod. Most pop acts I only have a few tracks each from them.

I think for me nostalgia does play a part for the early material as I was young and like I say very naive to music compared to other kids at that time. You don't really let go of the big bands of that phase of childhood I don't think as normally it represents a simpler care free time.
The early material some of it is still great and miles better than any other boyband group. The later material stands up in its own I feel as just perfect pop.
The songs I liked when I was younger the most were Pray,Back For Good,Never Forget,The Day After Tomorrow, Love Ain't Here Anymore, Another Crack in my Heart.

Great thread!

I was a fan from *near* the beginning. At first I dismissed TT as just another generic and not-particularly-talented boy band if I'm honest. (How awful of me!!)

I'd heard about the band before they had chart success (through smash hits I think) but never really liked any of their early releases. I wasn't even a fan of It Only Takes a Minute, and definitely not I Feel Heaven (little did I know that TT also hated that song too lol). It was only when Why Can't I Wake Up With You got released that finally made me go and buy Take That And Party, and when Pray came along a while later it was such a knockout song that i became fully converted.

I've followed the solo careers to varying degrees over the years but it's only really Marks career that Ive followed obsessively from day 1 to now.

I too am a fan since almost the beginning, for me i was fan from It Only Takes A minute onwards, i saved up and bought Take That and Party and loved the album and remained a fan from then on. It was great been a fan in both my younger and slightly older years as i got to appreciate them at different stages of my life. Weirdly my wife hated them first time around and became a fan when they came back with Patience and is a huge fan since, she now loves some of their older music that she did not like at the time.

We are lucky as can both have the songs on and both enjoy it, our daughter doesnt love or hate them, she sometimes says only old!! people like Take That but she loved These Days and when watching the show last night thought Giants was really catchy.

Their music was always played around my house by my sister and mum growing up and I always loved Pray, Never Forget, Back For Good and Could It Be Magic, but I became a major fan from watching the 2005 documentary, and this was cemented when I heard Beautiful World, such a good album.

It was the everything changes album for me! One of the best pop albums ever I think. So many hits on it.

Agree.

I also become a fan during Everything Changes era. My friend told me I should buy their cassette (that old) and I didn't stop playing that album for a whole year. It changed my life completely. I used to be very very bad in English. Nearly flunk a class every year. Take That made me want to be better in English. I always thank them for that.

In my country Take That were very big as an international band. But with us not speaking English, 'big' is a relative term. I had to sleepover at my friend's house so I could watch the Gmax concert on MTV. There was no internet back then so everything was hard to get. Had to save up a lot just to get one picture of them from import magazines. Talk about dedication. dance.gif

After they split up, I already moved on to other Britpop and more obscured music. So I didn't pay attention about their comeback until 'the Circus' period. One day I saw the Ultimate Tour on Youtube and thought damn these guys were still good live. I went to a dvd store and bought what I thought the DVD of the Ultimate Tour. Turn out it's Beautiful World tour and I was hooked. They were unbelievably good. So again I went back to a cd store to look for Beautiful World cd but instead I got the Circus. The moment I heard Greatest Day I am a fan again.

Becoming a fan the second time is pretty convoluted process but turn out great. When I finally got the Beautiful World album, I didn't care about it as much as the concert. So if I heard that one first I might not come back to them.

I was a fan from the Everything Changes era, that said, I liked them, I didn’t enjoy all of their output but the songs I did enjoy I loved. Relight My Fire was the first song from them that I adored. I purchased the Everything Changes album and was impressed which pushed me into purchasing Take That and Party.

I was extremely disappointed with Sure, when they released it I thought I don’t like this direction. From hearing it I held back on purchasing Nobody Else. Back For Good then came and it was polar opposite to Sure and I was bit confused by such contrasting sounds that I still did not buy the album. Never Forget came along and it was a big moment, I thought and still think it’s a wonderful song and I bought the album on the back of it. I do enjoy Nobody Else but it wasn’t as appealing as the previous albums.

When they split I wasn’t a big enough fan to get upset, it was pretty much another boyband comes and goes scenario for me. I had purchased their Greatest Hits but lost it and when the Ultimate Collection was released I bought it to serve as a trip down memory lane but I never thought they could be successful again until I heard Patience. Patience was a statement, it was a comeback and it was wonderful and I found a new found love for them and became a real fan and have remained since.

When I was a toddler, my sister used to play Take That music to me and I used to dance around to it and sing along then after they split up I was definitely a big Robbie fan (and I still am). I watched their reunion reality TV show and really enjoyed and then I started stanning their new era of music and I've been a fan ever since.

It would be nice to hear more stories on this thread as it's always interesting the different ways of how people get into music. It seems older sisters have a lot to do with younger male Take That fans!

I would think there was few original fans who didn't get into them on the reform. In large the reform just expanded their fan base.
