Pre album
1. Born This Way (was always gonna be a single)
2. Schiebe (with an iconic video)

Post album

3. Marry The Night (June release)
4. The Edge Of Glory (September / October release with X factor strictly promo)
5. Fashion Of His Love (so pop and in that era / time of release I feel would’ve done pretty well) (early 2012 release to keep, album sales into the new year)

I still feel Edge would've been the best lead single with BTW as a follow-up with the album release. But that would've required her to hold back gushing about Born This Way on her socials for the months before she dropped the lead single.

Edge was something completely different from what she'd dropped on The Fame and TFM, but still classic, sounding like a modern classic, and like a step forward from her previous work. It also doesn't sound anything like a Madonna song so wouldnt've had that controversy hanging over it. Born This Way would still have launched the album and while sounding completely different from Edge it would've given the impression she was more diverse, instead of releasing Judas straight after which sounds like a step back towards TFM kind of sound. While Edge coming as the third single to quickly smooth over Judas was just a little messy, I thought at the time.

After those two, ScheiBe would be a fair third single to test the waters, maybe as a double A side with Judas, or maybe release both songs and see which one sticks. Hair would be a safe choice to close out the campaign, it would sell well, fit with her brand, and she could've probably got a good ad campaign or even Pride tie-in as an early summer single.

So:
1) Edge of Glory
2) Born This Way
3) ScheiBe
4) Judas
5) Hair
and maybe drop You + I as a promo single for the US the way she originally released Hair

I think the era could’ve been bigger if The Edge Of Glory lead the album.

No way Edge should've been the first single, however it could've been the second

BTW would've NEVER been a huge #1 smash on US charts if it wasn't a lead single. Now it's one of her trademark songs. Just heard it on Sunday and it's been YEARS since I've heard TEOG in public.

TEOG could've (and should've) been the second single. BTW was the PERFECT lead for what this era stands for - and it did really well on the back of the hype it recieved. TEOG was then the perfect follow on as it showed that with the messages that the BTW song conveyed, you can live your life to the fullest from birth to death and be on an ecstasy throughout.

This then should've been followed by MTN, embracing the dark moments that you face and dancing on through them.

It could've been such a cohesive STORY to follow. But regardless, this is my favourite era and album from Gaga and maybe changing it would've made it less special that it was looking back.

It's hard not to see Judas as a massive misfire, especially when they had The Edge of Glory waiting in the wings. Born This Way was the perfect lead.

I agree with HausofTroye, they should have had TEOG second to lead into the album (with a proper video too). It would have been much bigger.

It's hard to know where to go after that. She might have been on a roll post BTW/TEOG to take a risk with Scheiße, but would have radio played it? Marry the Night seems like the more radio-friendly choice, but we saw how that went in reality.

You and I killed the album internationally, was it even big enough in the US to warrant it as a single?
