Argentine boxer Hugo Santillan has died from injuries sustained during a title fight, just days after the death of Russian fighter Maxim Dadashev.
The 23-year-old collapsed in the ring on Saturday shortly after his WBC Latino Silver lightweight bout with Eduardo Javier Abreu in Argentina ended in a draw. He was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery but died on Thursday. "Rest in Peace, Hugo Santillan," the World Boxing Council said in a tweet. Santillan is the second boxer to die from injuries sustained in the ring this week after Dadashev's death was confirmed on Tuesday. |

For those of us from Belfast, this news came as a shock - Tommy Breslin has died suddenly at the age of 58. He was a legend at local club Cliftonville FC, playing as a midfielder for many years, and then managing them to Irish League titles in 2013 & 2014. My family would have known him well - my mother works with his sister, so it's come as a real shock to us.

Dorset Police have confirmed that the body recovered from a plane in the English Channel as Emilano Sala. Footballer Emiliano Sala was exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide prior to a fatal plane crash in the English Channel, a report has revealed. Sala, 28, and pilot David Ibbotson, 59, crashed on 21 January while travelling from Nantes in France to Cardiff. Toxicology tests on Sala's body showed CO levels in his blood were so great it could have caused a seizure, unconsciousness or a heart attack. The Sala family said there should be a detailed examination of the plane. Still surreal what happened. Again thoughts go out to both families. |

Italian cycling legend Felice Gimondi, one of only seven riders to have won all three Grand Tours, has died at the age of 76.
Gimondi suffered a heart attack while swimming in Sicily on Friday. After a late call-up, he won the 1965 Tour de France in his first season as a professional at just 22 years old. By winning the Giro d'Italia in 1967 and the Vuelta a Espana in 1968, he became the second cyclist after Jacques Anquetil to win all three Grand Tours. |

Murphy moved to France from his North Yorkshire base in 2013 and was diagnosed with cancer four years ago. A former stable jockey for Paddy Mullins, his Cheltenham winners as a trainer included French Holly, Paddy's Return and Poker De Sivola.
