"My Heart Takes Over" is the third and final single released from English-Irish girl group The Saturdays' third studio album On Your Radar (2011). The single is their twelfth single released to date. The single was released on 13 November 2011 in the UK. It debuted and peaked at number 15 in the UK singles chart on 20 November 2011. This became their first single to not sell over 100,000 copies. There was less promotion for this single, than previous, due to Una Healy being pregnant at the time, and with tour rehearsals for the "All Fired Up Tour" taking place throughout November. However, on 1 November 2011, the band performed the track in the center of Oxford Street during the Christmas Lights switch-on. Following this, on 18 November 2011 The Saturdays performed the song at the Children in Need event, as well as on Loose Women and Daybreak the following week.

The band also performed the track during the "All Fired Up Tour" which took place throughout December. The tour was used as a key source of promotion for the song, and the album, On Your Radar. On tour, the band performed the song in female Santa Claus outfit, whilst filling the arenas, such as Wembley Arena with snow. The video was also shot in Iceland with 'My Heart Takes Overs' peaking at #8 in the Scottish Charts once again providing that Scots have taste.

What version should have been released?

A lot of people believe that the Digital Dog / Rockstone version should have been released instead of the original.

Buzzjack Reception

QUOTE(-Jay- @ Sep 8 2011, 03:22 PM) *
2012 seems odd, when The Sats have said on more than one occasion that the album is slated for November 2011.

A summer anthem released in winter? Right... mellow.gif lol, what are these girls like.

QUOTE(gooddelta @ Sep 29 2011, 07:40 AM) *
I really liked it, definitely more the sort of Saturdays sound that I appreciate compared to their last couple of singles, even if it's a bit of a regression of sound compared to those two, and indeed is a little Issues meets Here Standing production wise, I agree with Liam. I've only heard it once and it's already stuck in my head so that's got to be a good thing.

If there's a criticism I guess it's that it's not the sort of song you release an album off the back of but it's nice to finally see them release another ballad, hope it can stick around like Issues did.

QUOTE(lee wallace @ Sep 29 2011, 10:19 AM) *
I LOVE IT, makes me think of winter ! The video should be epic! Apparently the album is getting released on 7th November. If so it will go up against Rihanna,Olly Murs, Pixie Lott & Cher llyod.

QUOTE(Liаm @ Sep 29 2011, 02:49 PM) *
OK, another couple of listens and I'm in love wub.gif Brilliant choice of ballad single, should stay about longer than AFU and sell the album well!

QUOTE(MarthaJonesFan @ Sep 29 2011, 02:51 PM) *
Beautiful! Got me on first listen, I ADORE it!

But...where's Mollie's solo?! sad.gif

QUOTE(Jonjo @ Sep 29 2011, 04:00 PM) *
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Seriously. I'm a big sucker for a big power ballad! This ticks all the boxes from what I want out of a Saturdays ballad. Really, REALLY hoping it's a big hit for them. Iceland seems the perfect country to film a video for it!

QUOTE(ROBOT @ Sep 29 2011, 04:12 PM) *
Personally... found that really disappointing. sad.gif

QUOTE(AdamAloud @ Sep 29 2011, 04:56 PM) *
I love it! Already prefer it to 'All Fired Up'. I'm so glad they're finally releasing a ballad again.

QUOTE(Jack @ Sep 29 2011, 06:44 PM) *
I really love it! Hope it can be as big as, if not bigger than 'Issues'!

QUOTE(aprilj @ Sep 29 2011, 06:52 PM) *
I really love this on first listen - whereas it took me a few listens to love Notorious and AFU! I hope this does as well as Issues. Also loving how it is very Vanessa and Rochelle centered, but missing the little Una middle 8!

QUOTE(Regina @ Sep 29 2011, 07:06 PM) *
Well this is something rather amaziballs.

QUOTE(Silver Rocket @ Sep 30 2011, 12:39 AM) *
This is an ace ballad from them, far more respectable than the terrible 'Issues'. This sounds like a #1 to me at any other time of year for them, I'm confident this will be another big regardless.

QUOTE(THEO. @ Oct 6 2011, 04:50 PM) *
The reason that The Saturdays aren't on The X Factor are because they're not critically acclaimed - look at Girls Aloud, it took them five years to finally get critical acclaim for their work, and unless The Saturdays get given some genuinely good material, they won't be. All this "Britain's Biggest Girlband" stuff is rubbish, when we all know they're only it by default.

QUOTE(Scherz @ Oct 6 2011, 05:02 PM) *
You do realise that since Girls Aloud split and the Sugababes got their 15th member, there have been other girlbands..
Whether you like it or not, they are not just Britain's biggest girlband by default, they are the only girlband (of late) that will still sell.

Sugababes didn't even dare to release their latest single for people to buy, because it would flop. Girls Aloud's last single didn't go top 10.
So cut the "by default" crap, they are Britain's biggest girlband right now and I can't see anyone coming along to take their crown anytime soon.
Girls Can't Catch, SoundGirl etc would surely agree..

QUOTE(2ndAdventure @ Oct 6 2011, 05:18 PM) *
Gotta agree with Scherz on this one. Yes they are by default the biggest group but it's not like no-one else has came along during their time in the charts. Plenty of girl group competition for them has come and gone.

And regarding xfactor, it really is swings and roundabouts with this. 'Notorious' didn't do that well, but give it the benefit of the doubt as on air/on sale was a huge contributor to screwing that up (btw, funny how on air/on sale is now "dead in the water" as it's been abandoned). 'All Fired Up' started off great.. but started falling and we're still waiting to see how that goes. Their ticket to xfactor this year really was the sucess they have this year pre-xfactor, and so far it's not looking that great imo...

QUOTE(RC741 @ Oct 10 2011, 03:54 PM) *
Really love the teaser, perfect for winter - can't wait to see the real thing! smile.gif

Also, haven't Westlife changed labels or something? But Unfortunately I don't think the Sats will get a slot sad.gif

QUOTE(JxRk @ Oct 10 2011, 04:35 PM) *
The video looks fantastic. Beautifully shot. All memories of those Missing You beach scenes now firmly banished. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Cremey @ Oct 14 2011, 03:14 AM) *
Loving this at the moment. Probably their best single so far imo.
Really hoping it does well for them...even if it doesn't get a brilliant peak, I hope it sticks around for a while - that seems to be their problem sad.gif

QUOTE(shadow2009 @ Nov 6 2011, 12:44 PM) *
There's absolutely no buzz for this single at all. I've seen it twice on a music channel since it's premiere, and not heard it on the radio once.

Posted by: SeanGrey 10th December 2015, 04:17 AM

Second favourite Sats song. Love it, deserved so much more sad.gif

Posted by: Qween 10th December 2015, 08:50 AM

One of their absolute best, great vocal, a sledgehammer chorus that gets stuck in your head instantly and maybe their best video too.

Posted by: Frootincense 10th December 2015, 10:37 AM

Actually really grew to love this but the single cover is horrendous.

Posted by: Gingerbread Cam 10th December 2015, 10:54 AM

Definitely one of their most beautiful singles, I prefer the album version to the single edit though laugh.gif

Posted by: Joe ho ho! 10th December 2015, 11:09 AM

Worst single for me. Worse than Gentleman

Bloody hell.

I am really thankful to this song though.

It provided me with an interval at their tour so I could go and buy more vodka.

You are vile.

This song is without a doubt one of their best singles. wub.gif So stunning and such an anthemic, big power ballad. So gutted at how it performed so badly. Stunning vocals and beautiful harmonies.

Vanessa middle 8 though.

It under performed because it's boring AF, nobody outside The Saturdays fanbase remembers this song. Even with three weeks on the A-list Gentlman (which never even made the A list) still outpeaked this. Poor hens. Shit song. Oh well.

It underperformed due to disappointing radio airplay / television airplay and releasing during an incredible busy period, I mean they had all they're promo reliant on that X-Factor performance which was typically taking off them in the last minute. 'Gentleman' was off the back off a number one smash.

You poor deluded soul, I'll open up helplines for you to get some help for having such atrocious music taste.

Posted by: Joe ho ho! 10th December 2015, 03:24 PM

Yeah but I Love Disco Love, Notorious, All Fired Up, Higher, Ego, Not Giving Up, What Are You Waiting For?, Up, If This Is Love. Y'all can die happy.

Posted by: SeanGrey 10th December 2015, 03:52 PM

Joe you clearly must be intoxicated (still) from that vodka you bought during the interval.

Posted by: James Frost 10th December 2015, 04:29 PM

MHTO <3 This song is absolutely Gorgeous! Definitely in my top 3 from them and I would love their next album ( wink.gif ) to have something like this wub.gif

Posted by: Hurricane 10th December 2015, 05:30 PM

I don't know what happened to Joe's taste, so I'll just pretend I've never read anything. laugh.gif

This song is perfect. It's so beautiful and the vocals during the chorus are lush.

Definitely one of their best ballad.

Posted by: Totto 10th December 2015, 09:36 PM

Oh my god Joe. I f***ing love you.

Make them seeth. Leave no butthole unhurt rolleyes.gif

It's worse than Gentleman HA HA HA.

Posted by: JosephCarey 10th December 2015, 10:40 PM

It's a really nice song but I'd rank it near the bottom amongst their singles. Way better choices on On Your Radar and it just didn't click with the public, which was a shame. It's very nice though.

Posted by: Christmas Jay 10th December 2015, 10:45 PM

Lmao at the quote you used from me Lee, that makes no sense without context! laugh.gif

(Prior to us hearing the single, a songwriter described a song sounding like a "summer anthem" and it was taken to mean that she was referring to what the next single would be. So that's what my comment back then was regarding, confusion about a supposed summer anthem song being released in the winter. The song being referred to was 'The Way You Watch Me').

Did I not give any thoughts about 'My Heart Takes Over' in the thread? unsure.gif

P.S. Hi, probably my first post in this forum section in months??

wub.gif I think it's beautiful, love it. Makes me think of winter.

QUOTE(-Jay- @ Oct 7 2011, 09:36 AM) *
I don't think X Factor had special guests until Series 3 (2006), and Girls Aloud were invited to perform the year after, so it's not like they kept getting snubbed. In 2006 Girls Aloud managed a Strictly Come Dancing slot. I think a factor that helped Girls Aloud in 2007 was Cheryl meeting Simon in early 2007 due to Comic Relief's Celebrity Apprentice. They obviously got on, so perhaps that helped secure that year's performance for them (Call The Shots).

Simon Cowell has always seemed a bit down on The Saturdays for some reason. I don't think it's on YouTube anymore, but there was a clip from The Xtra Factor in one particular year, where they were discussing the misfortune of girl band contestants on The X Factor. Somehow actual successful girl groups were brought up by Louis - he mentioned Girls Aloud, Sugababes, The Pussycat Dolls and The Saturdays... and Simon rolled his eyes when Louis mentioned The Saturdays.

A lot of time has passed since then, and The Saturdays have proved they're pretty much a constant feature in the Top 10, yet they're overlooked to perform on The X Factor. We have to remember that the Sugababes were also overlooked, even in 2007 and 2008 when they were still considered to be a top girl group.

I definitely keep my fingers crossed for an appearance this year, I think they more than deserve it! biggrin.gif

QUOTE(xfactor-updates @ Nov 8 2011, 03:11 AM) *
New here so Hi all...
I own the xfactor-updates site & apoligise for the confusion.
I noticed a few links to the site from here so thought I should post what I know.

I've posted all the xfactor guest performers way before they have been 'officially' confirmed, it's a spoiler site & some of you might know I don't post the usual tabloid shite but all have been correct so far.
Named the finalists & guests before any other sites for the last 3 years but got a spanner thrown in the works this year after a SYCO insider deliberately fed me a wrong finalist name to discredit my spoilers (all others were 100%)
Besides that fool (wont give his name), I am back on track with a great source for who they are booking for the live shows.

I was told Rihanna & The Saturdays were booked for the weekend of the 20th, then told the charity single would take place of The Sats & they would do the xtra factor instead.

I didn't ask which charity single, just presumed it was the finalists. However that single is due out the following week, so I'm as confused as you guys.

Hopefully I'll get confirmation tomorrow, will update the post as soon as I do.
One Direction are performing on both shows this weekend, so it's still possible The Saturdays will do the same.
With One Direction & JLS being added to the xfactor charity single, they could be doing last minute changes as to when acts are available to perform?
Will update when I know more, sorry guys.
