What even....
This sounds very Messy Little Raindrops...
Obviously a title isn't something you can necessarily draw much from but all I get from this title is that it'll be one of those "you're amazing, remember to love yourself because you're special!!1!1" songs
Why not just call it 'Stars'.
Interesting title! Won't judge it further than that until I've heard the song.
People hated "Sexy den a mutha" as a title and it turned out to be the one song everyone wanted to be released as a single off AML once they heard it. So never judge a song by its title.
^That's very true Hayzayy.
It's certainly an intriguing title.
Now she's teasing the title "I don't care" on Instagram, so I guess we don't know what's the next single is yet and she's randomly teasing song titles
According to new rumors concerning the second single :
- single title is "I Don't Care"
- music video for the single is filmed in Marbella/Málaga, Spain
- video is directed by the same director as Crazy Stupid Love (Colin Tilley)
This has to be verified/confirmed though!
She's been seen in Malaga (Spain) the same day as Colin Tilley, so that pretty much confirms he is directing the new video !
Quite hot since he did the Anaconda video too
Right, she's posted a picture from the video set in Malaga with the hashtag #idontcare so the second single will definitely be "I Don't Care" !
Can't wait, I've been listening to Cheryl's albums a lot the past few days and even 'Crazy Stupid Love' has grown on me a tremendous amount the last month or so!
Hopefully Jameela wont confuse it with Icona Pop's 'I Don't Care' on the chart show
Exciting news coming through! I'm guessing it's another uptempo if the video director is the same/she's flown to Spain for it - an autumnal ballad could easily have been filmed in the UK given our current climate - and the title gives a cheeky, uptempo feeling. I'm looking forward to whatever she throws out way, regardless!
Very very excited for this, still loving Crazy Stupid Love and I hope this is at least as good, if not better
More pictures here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2733148/Cheryl-Fernandez-Versini-channels-hippie-vibes-puts-sun-kissed-legs-mountain-Spain-film-new-music-video-I-Don-t-Care.html
Looks like it could be a pretty-looking video!
Giving me Sats 'Missing You' vibes and I love that video so I'm excited!
I can't wait to hear this! Please be a mid to up tempo song. Ballards never go well for chezza!
This sounds like a COMPLETE non-event of a song.
From CAPITAL FM :
Does that indicate she's not releasing the album off the back of this single, or have I just interpreted that wrongly?
It's pretty much a given that she will release the album with the new single.
I'd be very surprised if she didn't release the album after this single! Her past three albums have only had 1 pre-album single so I can't see this having three!
I think CAPITAL just worded it badly and basically they mean she will be back with the new album soon so we should stay tuned to get more info about it.
Great news! Was wondering whether the song could verge on the midtempo side of things based on the video pics, so glad to hear it's "fun pop".
I really want an Under The Sun part 2!
Love that description Can't wait to hear it!!
Fun pop! Yay! Erm, what's fun pop?
Cheryl's latest email:
'I DON'T CARE'
Exciting news! We can now confirm that the second single to be taken from Cheryl's upcoming album will be 'I Don't Care'.
Follow updates on Cheryl's Official Instagram, Facebook page and Twitter to find out when you can hear the single for the first time, and look out for information about the official video, which will premiere over on Cheryl's VEVO Channel soon!
Exciting! Hope it premieres very soon
That mailer has sponsored by The Saturdays ALL OVER IT.
Hi people I'm a new soldier!!
Who's excited for I Don't Care? Jocke Ahlund and Bonnie McKee co-wrote the track.
Hey! Welcome to the forum! Feel free to introduce yourself in the pinned welcome thread!
I'm so excited for I Don't Care, still addicted to Crazy Stupid Love also! Bonnie McKee !
I'm very excited now Bonnie McKee is apparently involved
Hope this is as good as her other singles, I think even though we haven't heard it it's pretty much guaranteed top 3 or even number 1. Especially as she will have an X Factor performance. Don't think there's one Cheryl song I don't like she's not an incredible vocalist but she always has such catchy songs! When I first heard Crazy Stupid Love I thought it was quite forgettable but after a week or so I was addicted. She really is the queen of pop in the UK for this generation, she's also coming across as amazing as ever on this years X-factor.
She wants to get a MOVE ON!
She really delivers covert art wise this era !
I am so super excited for the premiere, only a few hours to go before I get to know the one song I will stan over for the next 5 months.
YAAAAY cannot wait
omg my poor chart, with 1D, Carrie and Cheryl all premiering new songs on the same week
Love that artwork
I do agree that for once the covers are looking a lot better, although it'd be nice if they could still decide whether it's Cheryl or Cheryl Cole and keep that consistent.
last.fm nightmare, decided to keep her as Cheryl Cole last time and I'll do the same this time cause I really can't be arsed re-scrobbling it all Think she'll be sticking with Cheryl now anyway now that she doesn't go by Cole at all.
Incredible artwork, it's so simple but she looks gorgeous and it's just so happy and perfect for this "fun pop" track we're getting.
I do love the artwork, the font and general simplicity of it is nice but I think it/her facial expression really suits the song title.
Ooh I like cover! Can't wait to hear the song. I just wish she had been 'Cheryl' for Crazy Stupid Love as well. Considering she was 'Cheryl' for album 3, it looks messy that she went back to 'Cheryl Cole' for one single, only to revert back to 'Cheryl' again!
~~~~~
I wish there had been proper artwork for Call My Name & Under The Sun, it's not like there was a lack of great pictures to use from that era. Just a reminder of those covers:
That 'Under The Sun' artwork was used for both its digital release and the promo cd, but that 'Call My Name' artwork was only used for digital; its promo cd cover was this:
Sorry for going off topic.
I ended up making my own covers for Call My Name and Under the Sun using a picture from each music video. If you're interested:
Two Reigan Derry tracks from X-Factor Au, Carrie, Fergie and now this, I echo Joseph's "my poor chart" comment but I can't wait, hope it impresses on first listen rather than taking about 2 months like CSL. I've gone off that a bit now too
I lik under the sun one a lot Joe Can't wait to hear I Don't Care. Just hope it manages to deliver
Those covers are about a million times better than the real things, Joseph!
The real things are awful. No imagination AT ALL. I'm glad they've put effort into her single covers this era.
I love the artwork and it (hopefully) represents exactly the song exactly as Cheryl's described it to us as - fun! I'm so excited for to hear it now. I'm guessing the album will be another "Cheryl" only release so my iTunes will once again flip!
Apparently it's her best song yet... EXCITED is an understatement!
Can't wait to hear it
Apparently the release date is November 9th in case that hasn't been mentioned. The pre-order is now on iTunes but it doesn't seem to be working properly yet so I can't see the date for myself, but someone on ATRL says that's the date so I assume that's right!
Therefore I expect the album on November 17th, although that clashes with One Direction and the week after is Olly Murs' album. I guess she could release the album the day after but I guess she'll just go up against One Direction and settle for a top 3 album.
80s vibe, very pop, very chill, I'm slayed.
Yessssss Cheryl!!!! Love I Don't Care, such a great vibe to it. In my head now
Such an underwhelming song. Very Disco Love though
Another very basic and safe single. Not awful, but just nothingy.
I personally absolutely love this! Probably won't get released over here in cyprus so just downloaded it & was driving into town with the sun shining & it clicked big time with me! Really is a summer song, which makes me wonder why she's releasing it near christmas.
Im in love! Say hello to the song that will take Geri Halliwell's record! I cant wait to see the elusive X Factor performance!
Brilliant pop song. It will smash.
Yeah, this one is so boring.
I think it's really good by Cheryl's standards. It's also her first single which doesn't sound cheaply produced.
Love on first listen.
Loving it! It's got the potential to de-throne 'Call My Name' as my favourite Cheryl single. Looking forward to the video.
Miles better than Crazy Stupid Love! Gives me hope for the album.
Pre-order available on iTunes and currently #96!
It's sounds like an album track rather than a hit single imo
I think her singles have all been amongst he most single-worthy from her albums tbh! None of them seem to me like they should have been left as album tracks, even 'The Flood' is one of the more hit-sounding potentials from 'Messy...'. The choices from '3 Words' were spot on, no matter what the '3 Words' single haters say.
Only 2 singles from the past two albums meant there were some tracks left behind which should have been singles too. I definitely think 'Yeah Yeah' was one of her biggest missed opportunities.
I really really like this on first listen! It's quite well produced and polished which is great given how Crazy Stupid Love sounded. It's very catchy and anthemic too, I was singing along by the end!
I love it. The production reminds me of a Kylie song.
I'm really liking the artwork for this era too, hopefully Cheryl has a great album cover too.
I think this is very Ace of Base (minus the reggae influences)! Not sure of how I feel about it at the moment, nothing this era has made an initial Impression on me thus far as opposed to all three previous Pre-album singles in previous era's. As much as I love Crazy Stupid Love now, I disliked it for quite a while; I'm sure this'll grow.
EDIT: I know who this reminds me of now... WHIGFIELD! Anyone remember her?
Absolutely love it It definitely has a more instant feeling on the first hearing than Crazy Stupid Love. I am hooked already and have had it on repeat for the majority of the day already!
Cheryl is really smashing it with this era. Excited for the album!
Video premiere between 8-8:30 tomorrow on Good Morning Britain!
She better release the video to Vevo at the same time too
Hmm.. One of her most pop singles yet.. Pretty underwhelming though. Probably will grow to like this more than CSL but that's not saying much..
this is. A W F U L
Has this bitch just changed ha name again?
She's messing with my last.fm OCD and I ain't havin' it
(Kinda like the song tho so I might have to accept her being bipolaror smthing)
wasn't 100% keen on it at first but now im fully on board, a very fun pop track indeed. hoping this can be a big hit for her, she's back on form after crazy stupid love!
You guys should stick to "Cheryl" from now on. What will you do when Cheryl will have released a dozen albums under the name "Cheryl"?
I get Pixie Lott vibes from this. Take that as you will.
Already one of my favourite songs from her. The chorus/hook feels a bit basic but I've listened around five times now and it's a bop.
When you say unfinished, what do you think is missing? Another layer to the instrumental, more lyrics? I think some songs really benefit from not having an "everything but the kitchen sink" approach. Sometimes more simplistic is more effective! To me this song is actually quite full sounding and yes, polished! Elements of it make me think it could be a Kylie track, particularly the verses & middle 8. Overall it's a step up from the instrumental to 'Crazy Stupid Love' anyway.
Pixie Lott vibes - two #1s in a row, like Pixie managed in 2009?
What a wasted opportunity. That absolutely undeniable intro and career-best shimmering verses...only to lead into that utter nothing of a chorus.
Pretty catchy but also so damn basic, like the majority of her output . The vocals in the chorus (as well as the chorus in general) are so grating. That said, it'll probably grow on me and it's better than 'Crazy Stupid Love' at least.
I actually dislike this on first listen, quite a bit. Maybe next time I hear it will be different, but for now it just sounds like a dull b-side. It's said the be a 'fun' song, which I don't understand because she sounds bored. Was considering switching it off after 1 minute...
Shame, as I like most of her singles!
Did they show the video on GMB? Because I can't find anything
They didn't show it in the end, despite the fact that GMB originally tweeted that they would be. It was even mentioned in the programme's description on TV guides! How odd!
I quite like "I don't care". It's certainly a lot more instant than crazy stupid love. This should easily go top3.
I want the video so bad now.
Release it to Vevo girl!
What a horrendous chorus Agreed with comments that the song is largely pretty good up until then, but the chorus lets it down completely. This era really is not shaping up - when a Cheryl lead single is bad I can't say that's a good sign for the album.
I'm very underwhelmed. It needs a really kick ass video.
Do we know what the video involves yet?
You better work bitch.
I t looks really bland, Girls Aloud had much more fun videos. Why cant she just thrown a few guys in a swimming pool?!
Really not feeling that picture there Cheryl, what on earth?! ^
Anyway, any news on the video premiere? I know she went on a twitter answering spree earlier and mentioned the video, but still no date, agh!
^ It just really shows up the limitations of her voice. She sounds very strained on it and that's in the studio version! It's an underwhelming chorus in itself compared to the verses but it would undoubtedly sound much better with a vocalist who had the required range.
Ok so Cheryl kindly let us know that the video will be coming soon to her VEVO.
"SOON"
The sneakers, though
I like I Don't Care, I agree it is a bit basic, but it's good enough for me to forget Crazy Stupid Love happened. I don't think her vocals sound great on the chorus though. Fight For This Love, Parachute and Call My Name really suited her vocals. The verses are great.
Getting Nicole Scherzinger vibes from the video...
So am I, and dare I say it... Tulisa vibes. Her mannerisms are so offputting!
However, still liking the song a lot.
Haaaa at the 'zero f***s given' part.
I actually love her mannerisms! Looks like she genuinely had fun filming it.
I don't want my popstars to look like they turned up on the beach for their video shoot and pranced around with their mates. I want them to serve face! It's a terrible video, the song needed something bright and bouncy, not beige and middle aged mum fierceness-y.
CSL = Better video
IDC = Better song.
It's kind of similar to Somebody to You, Your Love and Lay Me Down. Nothing special.
I like her mannerisms but it's a bit of an overkill with them being in every shot! I feel like there could've been something else added to one scene, a dance routine is the obvious choice.
She looks stunning though, really loving her hair at the moment!
I'm in love all over again
And I love the crazy face expressions, it makes it look like a classic Girls Aloud video
Her expressions/mannerisms make that video. I really like it.
Her mannerism are so irritating throughout and why does she look hungover throughout the whole thing?
Pretty terrible.
Well, I really like it! The video has an uplifting quality to it, and she really looks like she's enjoying herself. I enjoy her mannerisms and facial expressions. It's a nice video visually, lovely scenery! Overall it's a nice change for her, she hasn't done a video similar to this before.
I think Crazy Stupid Love has the better video of the two but I don't think this is bad by any means, shocked that it's had such a negative reception here! It's just a lot of fun, she seems to be really enjoying herself this era, the mannerisms and facial expressions just helped show that for me. Not the *best* video ever but Jay's right, it's different for her and I think it works well for the song.
*.*
The 'zero f***s' bit is quite lovely actually, pretty funny The vid really shows off her nice personality and has sort of made me step up from casual fan to slight actual fan Love the video anyway and made me fall in love with the song now.
I adore this song, possibly better than CSL
Great great track by Cheryl
I've listened to this a few times now and love it. I liked CSL but not as much as her other leading singles whereas this is back up there. She defo saved the best single for second, taking the girls aloud release strategy. Brilliant - roll on the performance.
I just heard it today! It's very catchy and it's already one of my favourite songs this year!! Much better than "Crazy Stupid Love".
This would be amazing if someone else sang it. She's flatter than a pancake.
Also, how is it possible to sound out of tune on record?
It sounds pretty awful :/ .
I knew it would form the cringey photoshoots, promo and title.
Listening to this and then Paloma's new one right after showcases the difference in quality.
This would be better if she actually had a decent voice, it's painful to listen to that chorus. Also, the swearing seems so stuck in as if to show "lol look at me, I can
swear, I am so badass"
The video looks so cheap :sniff:
I Don't Care is out the 2nd November https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/i-dont-care-single/id915442479
Ooh moved forward already?
Brought forward? Oooh, exciting !
Hmmm, it's decent but I have to echo the chorus complaints. In one sense, the chorus does it's job because I heard it 10 minutes ago and could still sing it to you, so it's effective in that manner. However, I do find it pretty weak, annoying and brattish lyrically, strained vocally and all those comments about the polished production seem odd to me because I was specifically thinking the opposite.
I don't really find it all that interesting either. I hated the saxophones of CSL initially but there was something so infectious about it, I kept having to go back, don't really get that with this even though it should be a better song.
i think the problem is here that she cannot sing a LICK.
I am really liking this
The only thing that gets to me is the abrupt swearing (which shouldn't be an issue given half the songs on my iTunes are explicit lol, but it doesn't work as well here). The verses, particularly the first, more than make up for it though and I'm sure I'll grow to love the chorus eventually too.
Good going and a LEAGUE ahead of CSL.
It's growing on me very fast, million times better and catchier than CSL. Her vocals aren't great but that's not a surprise really is it? Not like she's going to perform it live!
It was instant for me. It's brilliant full stop. Amazing video. Relates to her perfectly pulls it off. Potential 5th No.1 single. XF performance will be brilliant. Like it alot one of her best singles.
Am I the only one thinking this could become the most iconic Cheryl song ever, after FFTL?
It's so catchy and instant, and there's something about it that makes it like a classic Cheryl song.
What's the opposite of a song growing on you? That's what this song has done to me. I thought it was good at first but her voice just doesn't sound suited to it.
Only Human is perfect though
Even my mam loves this song and she's not really a huge fan of solo Cheryl.. I'm loving it now too after initially not thinking much of it!
Same here! My mum also likes I Don't Care and she doesn't usually like her.
I do think this will do well, and the release schedule in its week of release and the week before are looking quite bare.
I'm ready for that iconic X Factor performance.
I wonder what kind of performances she'll do.
This song don't really require a heavy choreography like Call My Name, so I guess it'll be a lot more chilled. EXCITING !
adoring this so much! her singles are always decent tho! id put as;
Call My Name
Fight For This Love
I Don't Care
4. Parachute
5. I Don't Care
6. Under The Sun
7. Promise This
8. 3 Words
9. Crazy Stupid Love
Can't believe promise this is so low down in most peoples choices. I think it's one of her best songs! I don't care is also becoming one of my favourites - so glad because crazy stupid love was one of my least favourite singles.
You can listen to a remix of 'I Don't Care' by Liam Payne https://soundcloud.com/i-d-online-1/premiere-cheryl-i-dont-care-payno-vs-afterhrs-remix
(The soundcloud embed doesn't seem to want to work.)
Liam Payne aka sex god remixing a Cheryl single? Oooh
Not the most exciting remix ever but I like it.
Enjoyable remix! Maybe the 1D fans will show some support and buy it? Hopefully.
Liam Payne of One Direction produced that? Blimey!
It's not bad at all...
It's alright although I much prefer the original.
Jumping on the bandwagon:
1. 3 Words (10/10)
2. Parachute (8/10)
3. Call My Name (7/10)
4. Fight For This Love (7/10)
5. The Flood (6/10)
6. Under The Sun (5/10)
7. Crazy Stupid Love (4/10)
09 Promise This
09 I Don't Care
08 3 Words
07 Parachute
05 Under The Sun
04 Crazy Stupid Love
* if things had been different....*
10 Ghetto Baby
09 Yeah Yeah
08 Stand Up
The song isn't top40 on radio airplay, and is up one place to #10 on TV airplay.
It needs to do so much better on radio
Hazzay didn't say it's going to flop but a #1 is not going to be easy with Ed Sheeran and Calvin Harris second single
This should easily go to number 1, I can't see it having amazing longevity though. I can see it selling less than CSL overall.
^ Yeah I agree. Can't see it having much appeal beyond her fanbase. Crap song.
I can't see it doing any worse than CSL Will probably do pretty similarly which is a good result for her.
CSL did much better on pre-orders though. This has X Factor exposure going for it but not too much else. Pre-orders are picking up nicely but still aren't massive, so I can see it being a #1 but not as big a seller as CSL.
True, I guess it is a case of promotion appearing at different times! I'm not entirely convinced on how big the X Factor boost will be, because of the general idea that the boosts it gives aren't as big as they once were, but it'll obviously be a factor to at least some degree. I just hope airplay picks up a bit more, I'm surprised how little it's gotten so far given how radio-friendly it is.
On another note, I'm warming to the song quite a bit. The chorus I still think lets it down but rather than making it a bad song it just makes a good song that bit less great.
Cheryl's performance could have the kind of impact we can't quite anticipate at the moment. It'll be her first X Factor performance in 4 years, and once the performance is announced I'm sure there's going to be a lot of hype in the run up to it! I think the appeal of a "Cheryl X Factor performance" is going to be somewhat higher than those who have performed so far!
I'm quite confident that the song will be a #1, but I have no idea about first week sales/overall sales, we shall see.
As expected Cheryl has been confirmed for next Sunday show on the X Factor !
Totally forgot the single is out in a weeks time! Looking forward to her no doubt flawless performance.
Apprehensive for her performance; could go either way!
The single doesn't look like it's going to be number 1, the pre-order is so low
Haven't heard the single on the radio much but hopefully it'll pick up this week.
Hope Cheryl's doing more promo than just X Factor
The thing is: though the pre-order is very low, the competition just isn't there. Nothing is beating her, so it's basically "can she beat Ed Sheeran?". Not an easy question to answer.
Ed has had a massive increase following his x-factor performance! He's climbed over 40% in just over three and a half ours.
If Ed can jump to number 1 with his X-Factor performance with a song that's been out and charting for ages from an album loads of people have, I can't see Cheryl doing any worse. I have a feeling it will have like 2 weeks in the top 10 though overall.
I have to be honest, I have really gone off this song.
It's a well produced track that I now agree with others is ruined by the chorus. If that was stronger and didn't seem so try hard it'd be a potentially perfect pop song.
This has surprisingly really grown on me. I think the chorus is probably what makes it catchy for me...still not a fan of the Scherzinger inspired video though, mind you.
Nicole Scherzinger wasn't the first person to film a video on a beach you know
I know that very similar to Your Love in terms of just walking around on a beach!
The pre-order is finally back in the top100 on iTunes !
Is the Foo Fighters single an instant grat? Or is available to chart?
It's #5 combined on Irish iTunes. It's unlikely to go #1 then.
I hope she can do better in the UK but it's not going to be easy
#3 combined is pretty good for Ireland. X Factor will only help her stabilise and a top 3 hit for a UK act in Ireland is generally indicative of a UK #1 contender.
Yeah Top 3 is good for Ireland. Although her previous UK #1s also reached #1 in there!
You know what? Without promo it's pretty good and I'm 100% sure that everything will boost after X Factor performance.
"I don't care" very close to #2 combine on Irish iTunes. If it wasn't for Ed Sheeran she would have a shot at #1 over there.
The X Factor could impact their charts as well though.
For tonight's performance I really hope she steps up the game. She NEEDS to use "Only human" somehow, as an intro or something. The impact would be huge.
Unless she performs "Only human" later in the series but I don't think that's planned.
Cheryl is performing tomorrow night!
Been released an hour early
It doesn't matter, early releases always happen when the clocks change and I'm sure all of the sales end up counting towards the right week. It just means we get to download it an hour early - although I can't decide whether to buy the clean or explicit version!
The answer is both Ryan. x
#4 already That was quick!
#3 now and the remixes #25 on album chart. Not sure it will go much higher now until after the X factor performance tomorrow eve.
I wouldn't be so sure - it's only 1am after all! Most songs tend to jump a bit more when the morning comes
1.00 + 0.06 Ed
0,84 + 0,00 Meghan
0,60 + 0,04 Cheryl
I can't see Cheryl being #1 by the end of the week... She needs to increase like a 60% and to be stable during all week to beat Ed sales + airplay.
I don't see how she could gain a 60%.
It's doing a lot better than I expected, obviously not as good as CSL, but the performance will sort that out.
Such a poor performance.
So Cheryl is at #1 (clean) and #7 (Explicit) on UK iTunes.
FIERCENESS
She was on fire and I'm confident it will get the single to a new high on iTunes.
GET IT GIRL
I do find it so frustrating that Cheryl judges on a talent show and she mimes. The performance was well staged, she looked fantastic but miming makes it very hard for me to buy into her solo music.
You're welcome to your own opinion of course, but why do you find it difficult to buy into her solo music if she mimes? Not as if it's not her singing on the actual track It's more so that she can have the full performance - good vocals AND good dancing. She'd be compromising one aspect for the other if she didn't mime.
I'm Cheryl's defence I've noticed that when she judges she seems to focus more on stage presence than vocal ability.
But I'm annoyed she didn't record a more convincing backing track. It sounded exactly the same as the studio version.
Well that was a let down...
I have no problem with her miming because she usually WORKS that stage, but she didn't this time in the slightest..
1 1.0000 Cheryl - I Don't Care
2 0.6467 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud
Smash that lead (combined and weighted) Cheryl *.*
I'm not sure what the think of the performance. I can't compare it to "Crazy Stupid Love"'s Britain's Got Talent one as I didn't see it and YouTube refuses to let me but in comparison to the début performances of her three lead singles on The X Factor and The Voice UK, it was a bit of a disappointment. The staging was very minimalistic and really felt like it could have come from a contestant. A shame because I'm loving the song more than ever but I'm pleased it's made an impact regardless.
She was awesome. The online dragging is simultaneously unsurprising and tiresome.
^ As is the use of words like 'awesome' to describe someone miming!
She can't win! If she sings live people say she sounds awful. When she mimes the same people slate her for not singing live.
Anyway it seems a lot of people don't care (lol) about all that and embrace Cheryl for who she is. Another #1 is coming. *.*
Miming on a singing talent show is not one of her better moves.
How is everyone so sure she mimed the whole thing? It sure wasn't the studio track and the vocals sounded very "live" and a lot less auto-tuned as usual. Can anyone actually point me one single moment in the performance where her mouth isn't in phase with the lyrics or something?
If she really mimed all of that then she made a pretty great job of it really :lol
I have no issue whatsoever with an act miming on stage, even the best do it, it's just for a judge on a singing show to then so openly and unashamedly mime doesn't sit very well with me. We all know she can't sing, and at best she's an average dancer, so there's no sense of compromising one or the other. She can't do both, she can only do ONE competently at best. It doesn't even impact my enjoyment of her as an artist/her music (granted, I'm not overly keen on either), but it just feels more than a tad disingenuous and a bit of a slap in the face of the contestants who she lambasts for not being able to sing live, when she can't/won't do it either.
Getting a bit bored of people saying she can't sing lol.
It was definitely mimed but not to the studio track, I noticed some differences almost right away.
Basically what Noah and Joe have just said sums up exactly what I believe.
I very rarely hear Cheryl give critique on a contestant's vocal abilities though. She will always prefer to comment on the performance side of things, of which she excels at as a popstar and has every right to offer her opinion on, after going through the process herself and carving out a very successful 12 year career.
And all this talk that she can't sing is so f***ing boring. She CAN sing. Yes she's no bloody Adele but for the style of music she does, she can hold a tune for god's sake. If she'd have sang live you'd all be moaning at how 'bad' she is, basically because a lot of you just don't like her (so it seems completely redundant to me for the select few of you to keep going on and on about it!). Simon and Louis can't sing, but no one seems to be kicking off at them judging talent. [/rantover]
People's definition of "can't sing" these days is "can't sing amazingly well". People can't seem to recognise when a voice is just average or even weak sounding, but is actually by and large in tune.
Anyway, roll on the next single when the exact same comments get dragged out yet again.
I don't even mind if people didn't enjoy her performance but these topics become a bit "Groundhog day"-esque. I don't think she'll change, so I just find it futile that people keep wanting her to be better than she is - it seems she doesn't need to be. If that is unappealing or even abhorrent to someone then I'd have thought that it's best for them to look away and focus on an artist who lives up to their expectations?
So your problem is basically that she's a jugde in a competition that aims to create popstars? Isn't that what she is? I rarely see her commenting on other people's voices.
That's why the same people criticized her during the A Million Lights era when she wasn't judging anyone?
My definition of can't sing is someone who struggles to hit notes and struggles to remain in tune for the duration of a song. I bloody LOVE Katy Perry (just using an example here), but she really is a bad singer. She is occasionally on point, but it's so rare that it might as well be never. Yet she sings live. It's a mess, but she does it. I would rather she sang live and did it terribly and at least be honest, OR as has been said, she did such a high energy dance routine that it seemed like 'ok, yeah, she didn't sing live because she couldn't'. This just seems like she couldn't BE BOTHERED, which is one thing I cannot tolerate in a popstar, disdain for or taking the privilege for granted.
And perhaps the reason these topics are cyclical in nature is not just because we are all hating on poor Cherly, but perhaps it's because the criticisms are accurate and justified.
Agree completely with John.
Is a forum in which mediocrity is routinely accepted and celebrated really what mods want? Should people be discouraged from giving their honest opinions just because it's Cheryl and everyone knows she's not the most talented? From my experience, a series of glowing reviews, superlatives and gifs for objectively average performances gets even more tiresome, boring and 'Groundhog Day' than this topic.
It's clearly an issue that has divided people and naturally, Cheryl's fans are going to defend her, especially in her own forum. However, not one of the mods here has discouraged people from posting their opinions and I can confidently speak for all 3 of us that we never will.
I've followed Cheryl and been a fan since Popstars: The Rivals. I did say after the performance, that while it was clearly mimed it sold the song well and I enjoyed it on the whole. I enjoy Cheryl as a popstar, most of the time - despite the two newest singles not being to my taste. But overall I think she has the star power that loads of incredible vocalists only wish they had. I also defended the fact that she doesn't often comment on people's vocals on the X-Factor, which is true, because it's Cheryl's incredibly intriguing presence that sells her records.
But I do think there is an element of delusion when people claim that she can sing/isn't that bad, because I believe Cheryl is one of the worst live vocalists in mainstream pop at the moment. I have never heard her sing a song live from start to finish with no wobbles, cracks or flat-lining. But saying that, I actually don't care if she mimes, wasn't The Voice mimed? That's one of my all time favourite TV performances.
Yeh, mods aren't discouraging anyone from giving their honest opinions. We're not censoring anyone or editing posts! That's not to say that us mods can't disagree with the opinions and state our own honest opinions, and mine happens to be that I find it all a bit tiresome, but I'm not saying "I forbid anyone from saying anything bad about Cheryl".
I've been a fan of Cheryl from the beginning, believe me when I say that over 12 years I've had so many people basically tell me "how can you like Girls Aloud/Cheryl, they're/she's shit, they/she can't sing, you have such bad taste" and that wears a bit thin. It's like a lot people can't tolerate that other people happen to like her and enjoy her as a popstar, and seem to be on a mission to tell you that she's awful and that you should really think that she's awful too.
I do speak in general terms in this post, because I appreciate that everyone is being respectful here, and it's in no way personal. We just have differing opinions and it's highly unlikely that we can change the view of another. So let's just respectfully agree to disagree. We all have different tastes and expectations in what we want/enjoy in a popstar, after all. For me, I like variety. Some of the most celebrated singers in the world are amongst my favourites, but I do have a penchant for pop stars like Geri Halliwell, Cheryl, The Saturdays and others of that ilk. I can recognize that they're not the most talented of singers but I do see something special in them, they appeal to me.
Vocal talent =/= success. Cheryl being a successful and charismatic popstar really has little to do with her voice. It's been down to fantastic song (as part of GA and a few solo), great marketing/packaging, great timing, lots of things. None of them to be overlooked, but all far more important in making her the chart force she is than vocals.
It's like early Madonna, she was a terrible live singer and not exactly amazing on record, yet became the biggest female star on the planet. Being a popstar is so much about the 'X' factor and whilst I personally don't see it in Cheryl, I'm sure that is what has contributed to her success and stature in the eyes of a great many people far more than her vocals.
Oh I totally agree that she has the "full package" - looks, great songs, personality, good management, etc. but I don't think they mean her voice counts for nothing. At the end of the day, if she couldn't sing, she wouldn't be as popular as she is now I'm sure. As said already, the public voted for her best on her vocals 12 years ago to make it into GA!
Kimberley who?
Yeah both Cheryl and Kimberley aren't the strongest vocalists but they can both hold a note. Sarah's the one who struggles to sing in tune
NEVER FORGET
Sarah can be unpredictable but I think she's got more range than Kimberley and Cheryl. She's done some fantastic live 'Heeeeere I aaaaaam's in her time. I don't think Kimbelrey or Cheryl could ever.
Kylie is an excellent example for me to use now that she is mentioned. Kylie mimed in early days but miming was very common for shows such as Top of the Pops etc in those days. Once Kylie started singing live her vocal improved and improved, her live vocal in concerts and on shows is very good now. This leads to me Cheryl, obviously she can sing as she performed on pop stars the rivals each week and was voted into the pop stars the rivals by the public. That said, what she needs to do now is sing live more often, the more often she sings live the better she will get.
Many pop stars mime, i dont have a big issue with that on the promotional shows but not in concert, miming in concert is an insult. My big issue about her X Factor performance is miming in front of not just talent show contestants but contestants she is mentoring each week to go out and give a blinding live performance in front of millions only for her to go on the exact same stage and mime. Surely even the biggest Cheryl fan can see there is a huge element of hypocrisy in that.
I love the song, I love the performance, I love it all with Cheryl. As a fan it comes as no surprise to me that she may have most probably mimed. #idon'tcare... I'd much rather watch Cheryl in concert than some boring other stood in the centre of the stage belting out tunes as I fall asleep. I buy into Cheryl as a product and I unashamedly admit that. I'll go see her in concert again, I'll keep buying her music and I'll love every minute of it.
Oh I never said she was the most popular overall, I referred to the final only, sorry if that wasn't clear.
So as of the Tuesday midweeks, she's only 6k ahead? Wondering if there's an error in the mids there at all as surely she'd be waaaay higher if she pushed Ed right down to ~0.6?
I reckon they haven't counted either the Clean or more likely the explicit version. A similar thing happened with The Vamps in their first midweek a couple of weeks ago. I can't see that being correct.
Oh yes, I'd forgotten that! Oh Cecilia was outside the top 30 in the first midweek
Yes I don't want to worry too much and everything in this update would indicate that they didn't count the explicit version.
If it's a real update then she'll need some kind of miracle to get the #1, but if it's not then things look OK. I would have expected the top version to outsell Ed by more than that but she does have the clean version and who knows if the EP is counted, etc.
I definitely think something hasn't been counted, I can't believe that a) it's so close and b) the sales are that low.
As expected, Cheryl had data missing yesterday and actually has a 18k lead.
Fantastic *.* #1 looking pretty safe now
It would've been great if she'd got Alan Carr on Friday to give it that extra push to seal the deal almost.
Omg I've turned into Lee!
59p?
Only as a very last resort Joseph!
Does anyone know if there is a video of her on the X factor anywhere? I can't find a video of the performance on youtube?
There you go!
Okay, I hadn't seen it but having watched that (sorry to bring it up again!), she really doesn't even do that much dancing, it's mostly just walking. I actually don't agree that she can't sing, so therefore, I'm sure she could've put in a competent vocal and actually show she CAN do it whilst putting on that exact same performance.
Exactly! The thing I also don't get with her (and Britney as well) is that their voices wouldn't exactly be hard to replicate live either, so why do they do it?
Maybe it's a confidence issue? Particularly with Britney.
If it's a confidence issue wouldn't they have the resources available to try and overcome it?
She sang live on pop stars the rivals for weeks on her own though. Then years with Girls Aloud. I think it's because she knows she'd be pitchy and wants to make sure the song is sold properly. It might not even have been her choice.
How do we know she's miming anyway? I really think the verses sound quite different to the studio version.
I agree that it sounds different but the vocals could easily have been pre-recorded, that's what she normally does I think. Brian Friedman's denied that she mimed but I still think she did. Not phased either way though.
Neither am I phased. I've been a britney fan for 15+ years so miming really doesn't bother me. I just don't agree with what people are saying about it sounding exactly like the studio version. It's quite different
Brian Friedman is not the kind to go on Twitter and lie about it if it's not true.
All these years working for Britney, he never did such a thing so I don't see why he would lie for Cheryl just for this performance. He could have as well just said nothing about it.
Still #1 in the midweeks, 16k ahead of Ed at #2.
She is going to miss this, isn't she?
Cheryl is 88%, and he is doing around 2,5k on stream alone everyday.
I doubt it.
Doubt it too, she have a HUGE lead, he's not gonna beat 16k in two days.
I think the verses we're live but the chorus seemed mimed but to be honest if I was in her position I'd do exactly the same!
I'd be surprised if Ed overcame that lead.
Cheryl is 85,3% on Ed on iTunes at the moment, which means that when Ed is selling around 10k a day, she is selling 8,5k. Plus Ed must do around 2,5k a day on streaming and Cheryl around 500, so basically Ed is gaining around 3,5k on Cheryl everyday, and Saturday I'm not sure what could happen as I guess sales are bigger on that day than on casual week days.
It shouldn't be enough to overtake her but he's going to get pretty close, there could be less than 5k between them both at the end of the week
Gap - Wednesday mids - 17,600+
Gap - Thursday mids - 16,370+
Gap - Friday mids - 14,900 (although there is some Spotify data missing).
I'm pretty confident that Cheryl will still be #1 for Sunday, it's a large gap for Ed to overcome and he hasn't made huge daily gains against her so far this week.
Any predictions for Cheryl's first week sales with 'I Don't Care' and 'Only Human'?
I'm gonna say 80k for 'I Don't Care' and 35k for 'Only Human'.
Agreed with Adam on both fronts. 80k seems solid for IDC and I was hoping for 45k+ for the album but pre-orders indicate 30-35k I imagine.
Yeah, something around 80-85k for IDC, I would say 40k+ for OH.
I'm 99.9% sure that Cheryl definitely mimed to a pre-recorded live vocal, it's something she's always done. I have no problem with her doing it, especially when's she doing a full-on dance routine, but Brian saying she didn't doesn't convince me otherwise.
I so hope it's number 1
Well as the performance was pre recorded they may have altered the vocals in post production.
I don't care is number 1 in the uk
SLAY A BIT FERNANDEZ-VERSINI *.*
*.* slayyy
YESSS CHERYL! Snatch that record *.*
So happy for her and for us!
Proud fans we are
Incredible achievement from Cheryl! Not only is it her fifth solo #1, it's the TENTH UK #1 single to feature her vocals! I couldn't be happier for her, with one of her best songs too!
The realisation that she's had more solo number 1's than with Girls Aloud has taken the shine off it ever so slightly for me. But an incredible achievement all the same!
Yeah it's a real shame that her stats are so much more impressive than Girls Aloud. well played though. Having both Clean/Explicit versions saved her.
HIT MAKER AND RECORD BREAKER!
It's a such a important achievement for her (and for us, her loyal fans obv ) and I'm actually so proud of her.
Get that 6 number one singles with #OnlyHuman next
Woooooooooohoooooooooo! When I downloaded fight for this love back in 2009 I did not see this happening. Yes! I don't care has increased on itunes again. Let's hope she had some longevity. I'm thinking this won't happen but hopeful all the same!
Wonder where it will chart this week! So far it's strong at #2 on iTunes
Top 3 this week as she is bouncing between number 2 and 3, that is unless streaming really goes against her.
The record breaking number 1 affect has really helped her.
Down to #4 in its second week. I thought it was safe for #3! One Direction overtook her.
1D had Children In Need to boost them I guess! I assume she wasn't that far behind them at all.
It's #13 combined on iTunes at the moment but somehow I hope she can manage an other week in the top10 when streaming is included!
So this is looking to fall out of the top 20 on its fourth week. Oh dear :/
Who the frig is Bitter McKeith?
^ !
Queen Bonnie Mckee has written:
Katy Perry: Birthday
Ke$ha - C'mon
Katy Perry - California Gurls
Taio Cruz - Dynamite
Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me
Rita Ora - How We Do
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Katy Perry - Last Friday Night
Katy Perry - Roar
Katy Perry - Part Of Me
G.R.L - Vacation
I can understand why she's annoyed but why would you give away a song so personal/
The song would have been better with Bonnie's voice imo. It's not the most exciting song; it's a bit flat. I do like Cheryl's version but her voice really isn't that interesting or dynamic compared to Bonnie's although Lee is right, if it was that special you wouldn't give it away... Although it's just a fun carefree song, the lyrics aren't that complex or personal either so I'm not sure exactly how it'd be so personal, but a song meaning something to you is subjective I guess.
I think Bonnie's version would have been better, too. The main reason I didn't like 'I Don't Care' is because it seemed too far out of Cheryl's vocal range and you could almost hear a strain on the choruses. I thought it was odd to write that song for her with such difficult belters, but I didn't realise that wasn't the case - so it makes more sense now.
It's one of Cheryl's better singles.
Heard it in a shop today, loved it.
I might actually like it even more than CSL
