Hey,

can someone help calculating the total album / single sales of Westlife? Is there any sources we can pull this information out?

Westlife 1.5
Coast 2 Coast 1.8
World of our own 1.2
Unbreakable 1.8
Turnaround 0.8
Allow us to be frank 0.7
Face to Face 1.4
The Love album 1.1
Back home 1
Where we are 0.6
Gravity 0.4
Greatest Hits 0.6

Total UK albums is like 13 millions. Singles around 7 millions. so they sold easily 20+ millions in the UK alone, excluding DVDs.

Please add any information you might have or any possible source..

Westlife’s Official Charts Company certified sales show that Westlife have sold 20.2m records and videos in the UK across their 14-year career - 6.8m singles, 11.9m albums and 1.5m videos.

Their biggest selling album is their first ‘Unbreakable’ compilation, followed by ‘Coast To Coast’, with six of their albums selling one million copies or more. Their biggest selling video is ‘Where Dreams Come True’, which has sold 240,000 copies to date.

That was before the release of their last single and album and DVD..

I always wondered about that myself but I never found proper information.

All I can say is that I think the media are exaggarating in the last few years when they write that WL sold more than 50 million records - even the boys said this is wrong. That 46 million mark sounds more believable - in fact, I remember Walsh and Cowell giving a special plaque for that to the boys while they were on The X Factor once.

I see that Wiki has some stats that are more detailed but I how accurate it is, I'm not sure. I mean, just looking at the 1st album sales, it states the album sold around 670 000 copies by December 1999 so obviously the number isn't up to date as we know it reached up to 1.5 million in the end.

I always thought that Coast To Coast having 8 million copies sold worldwide is a bit too much but who knows, they were huge at that time so it might be true.

Well, 46 millions and over 50 millions is not a big difference anyway. Not that the other artists saying they sold 100 or 200 millions they actually did..
We can assume that Westlife sold 22-23m cds including the DVDs only in the UK, and I believe thay should have sold another 1-2 millions in Ireland. So it doesnt seem so exaggerated to claim they sold another 22-23 in the rest of the world... they were a bit successful in CHina sometimes and in Philippines/Indonesia and Africa. THose are big countries so... it could be but this is just estimations... biggrin.gif

I meant to say that for years it has been reported that they sold 46 million which I believe could be correct BUT I can't see the number increasing that much - that the boys sold, say, 4-5 million copies with the last 3 releases considering Where We Are, Gravity and new Greatest Hits haven't even been big sellers in the UK. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

Yeah.. we need some more info... However, Where we Are and What about now sold more than 1 million together in the UK alone. So why not reaching 1.5 or 2 world wide? Adding Gravity's and Safe sales lets say it reached 2.5 millions at least! Then their last Greatest Hits and Lighthouse (maybe it sold smthing like 30-40k) I am pretty much sure it crossed 1-1.5 world wide. SO 4 millions are there... Farewell DVD sold 150k in the UK alone. I would easily add another 500k of DVDs incuding also the 10 years of Westlife one..

there u go.. what did i say wrong? tongue.gif
