The final of this is tonight between Brazil and Argentina. An interesting statistic about this competition is that every time Brazil have hosted it they also won it. This year's tournament is taking place in Brazil so that can only mean one thing....

and they weren’t meant to host either!
Gonna record this as the show starts at 12.45 our time! Should be a great final though! |

That goal from Di Maria ended up being the only goal of the game as Argentina won 1-0 to win their first major trophy in 28 years. Lionel Messi finally has an international title to his name.

It's an absolute just result for Messi to finally have an international accolade to add to his collection, after cruelly losing on pens in 2 consecutive finals.
Next year in Qatar will likely be the final chance for both him & Ronaldo to win the WC (although given how they're still performing I wouldn't put it past a 41-year old Ronaldo still winning the golden boot for the 2026 WC ) |

Haha indeed although in the past 2 years Ronaldo has finally went slightly down a level of his peak so maybe it’s the beginning of the end?!

Agreed but the fact he still won the golden boot at this euros despite not just being 36 but also only playing 4 matches shows he ain't slowing down to any extent. Obviously at club level he's not posting the insane numbers he did at Madrid but he was still comfortably the highest scorer in Serie A last season!

Yeh it’s true his standard is unreal for a 36 yo, hope he continues to play until the World Cup next year and even the Euros in 2024 but he is a penalty taker hence his goal tally continues to look class!

Both Messi and Ronaldo will try and get to the World Cup you'd imagine.. firstly as it will probably be their last chance. Not only that but the sponsorships and endorsements they will be able to get will be unbelievable. There's an argument with Portugal that they would actually play better without Ronaldo, but I do kind of subscribe to.
