Depends on the individual - I think that the vast majority are a bunch of self-serving, crooked b/astards, but you do get the rare exceptions such as Tony Benn, Simon Hughes, Ming Campbell, Glenda Jackson, etc.....

Tony Benn - marvellous man.

Did anyone hear about him arranging a total boycott of all the buses in Bristol, when he was an MP there in the 60s, because of the racial discrimination the bus company was showing to prospective black employees? A part of Bristol history, that.

While I dislike his views intensely I have a lot of admiration for Tony Benn

I would say that at least 90% of MP's are in it to get their nose into the trough
