BuzzJack Music Forum _ TV Shows _ The TV Ratings Prediction Game: W/C 9th March

Posted by: April Mar 8 2015, 02:10 PM

We've decided to trial a prediction game for overnight TV ratings in a similar style to the one which appears for the charts forum. There are 10 programmes to predict - with ratings given to two decimal places. The correct ratings for the purpose of this game are those provided by Digital Spy (i.e. tape-checked but not including +1 figures). You'll receive 10 Points for a perfect prediction, and 9 Points if you are 100k out, 8 points if you are 200k etc. until you reach 1 Point for 1m out.

For example, if Death In Paradise rated 6.66m - this rounds to 6.7m. If you predicted any number which rounds to 6.7 (i.e. 6.66-6.74m), you would receive 10 points. If you predicted rounds to 6.8 or 6.6 you receive 9 points etc. until 7.6 and 5.8, which would receive 1 point. If you get an exact prediction to two decimal places, you receive a bonus 2 points in addition to the regular points. For example if you predicted 6.66m you would receive 12 points.

I hope that hasn't confused anyone! Much more straight forward, there are two bonus questions which could earn you 5 points for each correct question.

Out of interest, what is Corrie's lowest ever overnight rating? And presumably you're referring to its clash with Match of the Day?

It's clash with Comic Relief too. I'm expecting some very low ratings for it this week. I'll just check.

Oh yes, completely skimmed past Comic Relief! laugh.gif I think Corrie's lowest may be around 5.5m (which is actually alright for a lowest rating).

Its three lowest overnight ratings are:

4.86m (21.3%) - 5th July 2013 (against Wimbledon)
4.90m (19.0%) - 7th December 2014 (against Strictly Come Dancing)
5.03m (21.6%) - 20th February 2015 (against EE Live / EE Backstage)

Thanks - wow, lower than I expected! I suppose the 5.5m figure I had in mind may be its lowest cumulative rating.

Surprisingly, in 2011 and 2013 when Corrie clashed with Comic Relief, its ratings remained above 7 million, so I doubt it will do as bad as sub-5m this year.
