New single from Katy Perry called "Never Really Over", which was released on May 31.
Apparently it's called Never Really Over.
Hopefully she proves that about her career with this era!
Been reading about this over social media... I'm glad she isn't taking such a long break from music as I expected! Looking forward to the new era
katy v miley
I know you can’t really tell the performance of a song based upon the hype but I just don’t see much hype and if this bombs it could legit turn into a worse era than witness in terms of sales and song peaks.
Interesting - hopefully better than witness material with the exception of chained to the rhythm.

Countdown here! 11 days!
Oooooh!!! Was not expecting new music so soon but I'm really excited *.*
Is it actually a lead single from a new era?
That almost came as a bolt out of the blue if so, I didn't know she was actively working on new music.
Fan event in Los Angeles this Wednesday.
The information below was revealed by two different insiders.
• Written by Dagny Norvoll Sandvik, Dan Haywood, Gino Barletta, Harley Warner, Jason Gill, Katheryn Hudson and Michelle Buzz and it was produced by Zedd and Dreamlab. I assume Zedd (Anton Zaslavski) and Dreamlab (Daniel James and Leah Haywood) also have writing credits. The length is 3:44.
• Described as a pop hit, which begins slowly and it explodes later (I guess when the chorus begins). It doesn't have any latin influences, it's not a midtempo and it's 100% enjoyable.
Ooh
There's legit next to no hype for this.
The Spanish insider said that Katy has a "Medellín" look (in reference of Madonna's single) in the music video, so it seems that it was already shot. Also, the song is more uptempo and commercial than her previous album Witness and it's very 2011 in a good sense. It has a very classical structure with the first stripped verse, but it goes high when the chorus begins.
As a side note, this source also said that it's marked as the WW track of the week, so I expect Capitol to push harder the song (most likely in Spotify key playlists?) because there's confidence in the song.
Few more details from Olly, who confirmed that the music video was already shot.
Is this actually coming out on Friday? She hasn't even hinted at anything yet.
Confirmed by Katy.
Fantastic news
Intrigued, looking forward to hearing from her.
Amazing artwork!
Loving the colour scheme for the single cover! Can't wait to hear this
Loving the artwork!
Really hoping she can pull it out the bag with this one because I've been far from blown away by her recently (Con Calma aside)
I actually hate the artwork
I’m just gonna keep expectations of how this will perform super low and then I can’t be disappointed.
Come on Katy, get that redemption era you deserve!
It's such a busy week but I really hope this gets bigger first week support than 365 did. Cover of Hot Hits, Insta-Radio 1 support, iTunes banner like Chained and ME did. I can see it all going to Miley or Cardi though.
Is this actually for a new album/era, or is it a release similar to 'Rise'?
SO EXCITED. I honestly don't know what I want or expect from her at this point but I am really excited!
I'm told Never Really Over is insta-B listed on R1, which goes to show the radios have good confidence in it, despite the recent under-performances.
Samples the chorus on this song!
Oh! That's the reason why Dagny, Jason Gill and Michelle Buzz are getting writing credits.
I love the artwork Does anybody know the font used on the cover?
I have goosebumps from the teaser alone.

Preview here!
That sounds excellent!
For some reason I was expecting a ballad from the title.
Radio stations getting ready for the new Katy Perry single:
This picks up where the snippet above left off. Sounds great!
Well this sounds fantastic from Katy. Looking forward to the full version. What are we expecting this to do chartwise?
why does this give me The Cure teas
This sounds fab, I'm hyped now *.*
i find it quite strange to rely on a sample from a blogpop fav to launch a new record campaign
maybe it is excellent but it doesn’t invite confidence
Love this!! And she is looking amazing lately
This is her best lead single in my opinion.
The wig *.*
She's gonna be succesful again! No more soccer mum teas
BOP
My wig has been snatched *.* This is great!
Loooove this. When hearing the chorus in the snippet, I feared the chorus would be a bit too wordy and clunky, but it ends up being quite fun and punchy.
Yaaaay. So glad that even if nothing else, I'm loving this!
It's great. I'm pleased.
Her Spotify support in the UK is shit though. I can't see her making top 50 tomorrow. Her US support is great though.
This is so good!
Despite them both being huge I’d put Roar and California Gurls towards the bottom of my fave Katy tracks.
So as far as leads go this is already joint second with Chained. (For some reason I’ve always stanned I Kissed A Girl).
This is easily better than those for me and better than the majority of Witness tracks on first listen.
I’ll admit the video I need to rewatch to understand / get. But the song itself is a big step up and I think it’ll be a big slow burn type hit.
Great to see her back though
The best thing she’s put out in years can actually see this being a hit for her !
It's a bit of s home run isn't it?
#10 on iTunes!
I feel like this is the era that should have followed Teenage Dream - The last album was very generic but this is unmistakably Katy and I LOVE it
Oh, this is seriously fantastic! What a storming return.
This is f***ing perfect. I'm absolutely bowled over, this is EXACTLY what she should be doing at this point in her career - meshing that kind of spiritual, mature nature she's been edging her way to but with a very commercial and blog-pop kind of edge.
OFVOIVEIOJEVJIOEOIERIOGREIORE LOOOOVE.
I'm so glad to hear something from her again which has a storming chorus!
Been so long.
At first I was like "this wordy chorus isn't gonna work" but the way the song builds up it would usually have a generic drop, so replacing that with a quirky memorable tongue twister is ultimately what makes the song unique.
I know it isn't reinventing the wheel but it's just so joyous and wonderful. Euphoric.
I can't think of the last lead pop single that sounds as massive as this.
I wonder if it'll do well commercially. It might be a cute hit in the UK but the US will be an uphill battle.
Oh wow this is bloody brilliant
Love this and am hooked on the first few listens. It feels very Chained To The Rhythm in that I was addicted but rarely go back to it anymore.
For me, this is her best single since Dark Horse.
Really into this allready!!
Yes! My favourite release of the week by a mile, my favourite single of hers since Roar, I actually prefer this to Dark Horse.
I've loved a lot of her output recently despite the flopiness, but this is a huge triumph. Can see this being a big hit for her! The video's great too -- perfect amount of silly without veering into ridiculousness (hello Swish Swish).
I feel like this is what you get when you're not trying to chase viral trends with memes and stuff.
Just a pure, solid, all out pop banger. I'm one of the few who liked Witness, but there was no arguing it was a step back, but this brings her right back on track!
She’s BACK *.*
Let’s just forget Witness and 365 ever happened x
I'm pretty sure this is challenging to be the best thing she's ever done for me.
oh this is SO great!!!! so is the video. it's absolutely MADE for her.
katy perry is always at her best when she injects the fun.
I’ve been avoiding making the Teenage Dream comparisons because I didn’t wanna look back in months like “wow I really went overboard” but that is how I feel... big statement though.
Yup this is absolutely brilliant! Really impressed.
omg that pre-chorus is so anthemic
Pitchfork have said https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/katy-perry-never-really-over/
and they’d be right
I think this is pretty average. It’s better than her recent stuff but not a patch on her earlier classic hits.
I prefer 365, but this is still great the chorus is a bit of a mouthful, but I like it!
Debuts at #35 on US Pop Radio!!
This is a BOP! It's Teenage Dream meets 2019. Such a great return to form. I hope this becomes a massive summer hit everywhere!
Liking this quite a bit, easily her best single since Swish Swish and makes up for the sub-par 365 and her pointless Con Calma remix.
Really can't get enough, I loved all of the Witness singles but this is a spectacular return to form. I think she could be on to a big hit with this!
Debuts at #31 on Spotify UK!
Absolutely love this
I didn't expect this positive reaction.
I think she really bloomed artistically with Witness and this seems like a step backwards for me but I guess it's alright.
The Spotify numbers are great. 31 in UK is good given she didn't have a big push here.
10 Global and 11 in US are much better than I expected!
Did Zedd actually produce this?
I'm astounded if so, given he's been largely dreadful for quite a long time.
31 is MUCH better than I expected and the US debut is MUUUUUUUUCH better! I will still try not to expect too much though
Going into Sunday still #3 on UK and US iTunes aswell! This is really exceeding the expectations for Miss Katy "over and cancelled" Perry and I'm so proud... I'm so proud to see it.
I hope it will put her back on the map. I'm not the biggest fan of the song but she's a really likeable pop star and just deserves it.
Thanks to Rob for the new Katy NRO era banner! It's beaut!
Spotify 01/06/2019
#11 US (=) !!!!
#14 WW (-3)
#33 (-2)
Amazing
I was expecting -10 at least everywhere, so yeah, this is great!
Come through Katy! Given that she is still not on a lot of playlists, the spotify numbers are impressive! Everyone I know who's heard the song likes it which is a good sign. I think this could be the song of the summer (ok maybe jumping the gun a bit).
In the UK that's especially good given her support here isn't great compared to US
I love how much everyone seems to love this! I've been playing it all weekend, can't wait to hear more from the new era 💕
I really want to love this because it starts off strong but I find the quick-fire wordy part so jarring it doesn't work as effortlessly as something like Hayley Kiyoko's 'Curious' for example. Idk, maybe it'll be a grower, I hope so as it feels weird to be one of the only ones not loving it when I do usually really like Katy.
Shook at how well this is holding up. G'won Katy.
I don't love it yet but I like it! It's pretty much exactly what I wanted from Katy, the song's not groundbreaking at all and that's fine with me. I hope it'll keep growing, certainly wouldn't call it one of her best yet.
I'm enamored by this. It also does a great job of playing to her strengths, giving the people what they want from her, AND all while feeling like a fresh step forward for her, with the sample giving scandi-influences. It has about 3 different hooks and they all flow into each other so, so well.
Day 4 and I'm still majorly in love, this could be becoming my favourite Katy song of all time.
Currently:
UK:
#3 iTunes
#30 Spotify (Spotify support has not been as strong here as the other main markets)
#14 Apple Music
US:
#2 iTunes
#13 Spotify (for a weekend drop for a new song this is very steady)
#32 Apple Music (This is very strong for a pop song, AM US is very rap dominated)
All in all it's shaping to be her biggest hit since Chained, and if bigger than that it could be her biggest since Dark Horse. Time will tell, but it's looking promising.
This is by far my favourite Katy song since 2011!! Nothing since besides Swish Swish has excited me as much as this. It's the perfect comeback track (and video) for her - mature, catchy, not OTT, not too leftfield, full of character. I'd love for this to be Katy's 6th #1 - but in this climate I won't get my hopes up. That Chorus!!!!
I was initially underwhelmed by this and it felt a little disappointing for someone of her calibre aside the iconic 100 words a second chorus.
However, I've fully changed my opinion and this is a huge bop!! I'm sold!
I'm actually starting to allow myself to believe this is going to be a hit... its stability is really impressive.
It’s back to 10 on USA Spotify.
I genuinely keep forgetting Feels was a thing, even though I enjoy it. D:
I love Feels but don’t really associate it with Katy, she only has a few lines and it’s not the greatest she’s ever sounded as a vocalist. Suspect that’s the case with many here.
Obsessed with this, the chorus is SO good 😍😍
I've just realised I haven't posted about this yet because it's been growing on me loads - I've had the chorus in my head everyday and I'm trying to learn the fast speak-singing section
I'm just shocked more than anything about how overwhelmingly positive the reaction to this has been - I was really ready to give up on Katy's days of success after Witness and her features since have underperformed but a top 20 debut in both the UK & US would be absolutely huge for her! I'm hoping the album lives up to the same high standards that she's set
God... even my fiancé was going around the house whistling this and it's not really his usual cup of tea. That's a good sign! Probably because I don't stop playing it though. LOL!
This is such a great track, a reminder of the type of pop song that Katy still does better than anyone else. Big, hooky, layered and colourful with lots going on, but without sounding messy.
I would love an album in the same vein, Witness was good enough but lacked the usual Katy magic, aside from Chained To The Rhythm.
I legit get frustrated when I mess up while singing the chorus
Spotify UK: #21 (up 1)
Spotify US: #12 (down 2)
Spotify Global: #12 (non mover)
Capital is absolutely spamming this!
Onto B-list on R2 and hopefully up to A list on Radio 1 on Friday.
The only key radio yet to get on board is Heart.
Is a top 10 debut in the UK out of reach?
Well it had a better week 1 than 365.
unexpectedly brilliant
never thought i would be this into a kp song again in me life. honestly like all those UK streams are ME
Debuts at 13 which is great given Bon App, Swish and 365 didn't even debut top 35.
Just heard this earlier today and I really like it, hoping it manages to be a decent hit for her.
Highest charting solo single since Roar
I really hope it does! I'm worried it'll go like 13-11-13-15 kind of chart run. Especially given Hot Hits have given it a shady placement even after a week of it doing well. It's basically had the same Spotify support as 365. Starting it off at #5 on NMF? What was that about?
Anyway, it debuted at #8 on the uk AirPlay chart which is GREAT.
Even if it ends missing the top 10 I think it’ll end up having good longevity and sticking around quite a bit. (Maybe like a Dangerous Woman by Ariana like hit - using that example as that was also a lead single).
It’s at 9 on iTunes Sales but I think it should climb soon as the top 2 tracks will fall a lot through the week.
The reaction has been positive though and even if this doesn’t go top 10 it’s set the wheels in motion for a revival.
I'm pretty happy with it entering at #7 in Australia.
I'm also worried about something similar happening Joe
It may very well pick up but I can see a low Top 10 peak at best which is still amazing all things considered, but I was low key hoping for a big Top 5 hit really
Hopefully on Friday it could climb into the Top10 in the UK.
Spotify have announced they are going to premiere alternate ending music videos on their playlists, so I guess that's what they're waiting for with Hot Hits.
Debuts at #15 in America! Her first top 20 hit since Feels/Chained (as lead)!
Something happening with Tumblr soon... Random
The vertical video is up on Spotify and it's at the top of Today's Top Hits.
Yaaaas I love that Spotify US / Canada / Aus / Nz are stanning this so much!
Shame about ours however.
Ohhh it's been added to Hot Hits now. Not hugely high but it'll do.
6 places higher and 30k up on last Friday on Spotify, might reach a new peak this week
An alternate ending of the music video could be seen while you listen to the track on Spotify mobile.
Moved up to #17 on Hot Hits UK!
Utterly obsessed with this! Could it be my favourite lead of hers??!
New peak of #13 on UK Spotify now
Needs to go top 10, probably in my Top 3 songs of the year so far really should be a number 1 her best song in years!
New peak of #9 on Global Spotify. It increased in the UK too, but Taylor leap-frogged so it's still at #13.
Just another move up on Hot Hits of a few more places and it'll make the top 10. It would be a done deal if her label discounted it on Friday.
Edit: It got moved down to 22 on Hot Hits now. Vertical is up to 13th though...I'm not really sure which is more beneficial to have higher?
This needs to be doing stream numbers like Old Town Road. It's so good
Why are Spotify UK so reluctant to pushing this properly?
I heard this on the radio last night on my way to work... I don't listen to the radio much, so it was a fun surprise for the rare time I listen to it for this to come on
Katy staying still at #14 on Spotify after all yesterday's new entries is impressive!
UP TO #11 ON UK SPOTIFY!
Is it fair to say this could be a bigger hit in the longrun than 'Chained', even if it doesn't quite manage to peak as high as that did?
Vertical up from 13 to 5th on Hot Hits and song from 23 to 13! It really could make the top 10 this week, guess it's never really over.
Vertical up from 13 to 5th on Hot Hits and song from 23 to 13! It really could make the top 10 this week, guess it's never really over.
I definitely stand by my decision I originally made a couple of days after its release that this is officially my fave Katy lead. Not getting sick of it in the slightest!
#11 in the mids today. Its basically between Katy and Taylor for that #10 position this week and is verrrry close.
Katy is back at #11 on Spotify today and Taylor is #16...So it's going to be a tense week for anyone wanting to see Katy get another top 10 hit.
Come on Taylor, allow her this! You're friends now.
Looking at the global Spotify chart and excluding new releases, this has the highest 7-day increase inside the Top 20.
This has moved up to #3 on Hot Hits UK so hopefully that can give an extra push to top 10! If not, 59p reduction ahead of next week pls!
Sadly it's a no for top 10 this week, but it could very well make #11. Spotify songs all fell yesterday (I think maybe the Summer Rewind playlists took a lot of listens away from tracks) apart from Taylor for some reason who had a huge jump.
I guess it's getting late in the day now to make the top 10, but it could make it next week if they discount it.
If it doesn't make the top 10, a run of 14-13-12-11 is going to be very frustrating.
RAGE
Oh for f***s sake, especially with some of the shit above it
So disappointing — the perfect comeback single.
If this had been released pre-Rise then it would have been a massive number one. It's an anthem.
I still think it has a chance of top 10 next week if it continues to slightly climb over the next week on Spotify. It's a done deal if she discounts at midnight, but if not there's a handful of songs I think she could overtake:
SOS, Crown, You Need To Calm Down, Old Town Road, Wish You Well, No Guidance for example.
Surely SOS and Old Town Road will be on ACR soon enough to allow Katy to enter the top 10
Also back in the top 10 (#09) on iTunes
YESSSS @ hitting top 10 on Spotify
New Spotify peak of #09 today
Only down one to #10 on Spotify.
Yesterday's mids:
8 Sigala
9 Mabel 9
10 Avcii
11 chris brown
12 Katy
13 ?
14 Taylor
She should overtake Mabel and hopefully Chris Brown.
It's weird she's not performed this once live yet.
I think this has reached its peak now.
The optimist in me is hoping it could still sneak a week in the Top 10 next week.
Really a disgrace though, a 10/10 pop song that would've been huge a couple years back but the public are too busy streaming Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi & CHRIS BROWN!! I have to laugh.
I really wish she promoted this.
Holy f*** she sounds incredible
She missed a trick not promoting it, but at least the next single is out in a few weeks.
Better late than never, I guess.
This has reached the Top 10 at US Top 40/M radio today, becoming her 18th overall Top 10 there.
STILL not bored of this

Certified Silver!
The song's ... alright, I suppose, but it's not a Katy classic. Tbh, I prefer Bon Appetit, berber.
This increased last week, so is back on SCR (and is increasing again this week). So has at least 3 more weeks before ACR, probably even 4..
Including this week's midweek this is the chart run so far:
13-14-12-12-13-14-22-21-24-28-28 (11 weeks)
A smash so big it has cannibalised 'Small Tank'!
I thought it was going to drop away after that 14-22 fall so I'm pleased to see it sticking around. It's a shame it never went Top 10 but I'm really happy with how it's done.
I think this has actually done really quite well for a Katy Perry single in 2019, considering where her career's at now.
Wish it'd have nabbed that top 10 place too, but it is what it is.
How many units has it sold in the UK so far?
This instant classic really pops off live!
And yet she abandoned it! I guess the team is looking for a huge hit, not realising that NRO was just where they needed to be rn.
Heart FM have started spamming this 12 weeks later lmao. It's a shame they didn't get on board right away because they have a bigger impact on iTunes than Capital most of the time, probably would have managed that top 10!
There are so many annoying little things they could've done to push this into the top 10, it's infuriating to think about it.
But mind you, who would have thought Katy Perry in 2019 would have a top 15 single, and one that spent 14 weeks in the top 40? I wouldn't have expected that!
And still they chose to move on to Small Talk so soon, bizarre.
She needed to fire her whole team after Prism. This is just more proof they are absolutely shit.
Back into the top 50 on iTunes
Get those 40 sales!
Now her 5th longest charting song on Spotify Global (18 weeks), behind Feels, Dark Horse, Roar and Chained.
Never Really Over / Small Talk is being released on 12" vinyl for Record Store Day Black Friday!
https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/11827
I really hope this song can somehow score Katy her first Grammy next year. A f***ING SONG.
She has no chance.
A double-single release on vinyl of this alongside "Small Talk" will be out on November 29.
I've come to realise that this is my favourite Katy single ever. The no.12 peak is actually such an injustice for it considering the quality of the song, it's on the same 'unexpected deep into a career highlight' level as the likes of Believe and On The Floor for me.
I'm baffled as to why they didn't continue to push this. They had a huge hit on their hands and decided "Small Talk" was going to do well? This would have been a big hit had it been given longer to flourish.
This is the team that didn't release Walking On Air as 2nd single, DH as third, then LL for four no.1s after Teenage Dream's 6. They are useless.
No GRAMMY nominations for this.
Genuinely surprised tbh!
Can't believe the Grammys snubbed this
It's disgusting. The fact that it's the best song out of the 5 already nominated in Pop Solo Performance and it really should've got a nomination at least!!
They really do hate her, don't they!? :/
I'm in agreement, only 'Teenage Dream' beats this for me. It's incredible.
It wouldn't have. It's good, but it's not all that.
It’s not all that.
It's all that.
This is such a storming comeback. I *think* it's my favourite song of the year. (think, coz I havent done a list and can't be bothered to do a countdown - it's at least top 3)
I’m on Team “It’s all that” 🥳
It's all that AND MORE.
I do think, actually - had she came back with this song following Prism at least a year earlier than she did, it would have been pretty massive.
Nick Jonas (poster) having a negative Katy Perry opinion shocker
It’s my third favourite by her behind E.T and I Kissed A Girl.
A huge hit. In the pre streaming days it would’ve been at least a top 5 hit! I genuinely felt this could’ve gotten her that Grammy too at least for dance recording I’m stunned it didn’t get nominated at all. I also really like the video too. A BOP.
This really is THAT song. I still listen to this constantly!
I think this is officially my favourite Katy single ever now. Who would have thought? After 7 years (imo) of underwhelming material she delivered such a divine track.
This just SLAPS every single time, doesn't it?
This. Saved. Pop.
I can't stop listening to this 24/7
I just heard this track for the first time today and thought of this straight away. I’d seen it on here a while back on on one of the first pages just didn’t get round to listening until today when the OCC posted an interview with Dagny which mentioned that song and Katy’s Never Really Over.
Never Really Over really was one of those times Katy got it RIGHT, both visually and sonically.
It still irritates me greatly that the world mostly slept on this masterpiece of our time. One year on and I still need to play it at least 2-3 times a week.
Well it will be slept on when the artist themselves sleeps on it...
though I do think the chorus would be an issue for the GP
NRO? first single?
You can’t deny that Never Really Over was the first single because it was A) a single and B) on the album? What’s not clicking
Katy can say Daisies is single 1 all she wants, but she's wrong...
I think it's an attempt to make it seem like the era was getting a fresh start by calling it the first single ~ almost restarting the era to build up public interest again. I can't see how this could be demoted to a promo single, just because of that one tweet by her?
She announced 'Smile' as a single too just before it dropped, and it clearly is because of the radio push, but many are saying it's a promo one (because of its underperformance?), so who knows what is what with her songs right now It's turned into a very messy era which is so unlike her when you look back on the days of Teenage Dream and even Prism when everything was handled expertly. I just hope the rest of the album follows the quality of this SUBLIME song.
It was because of the messiness this era that made Smile's single status questionable but it became undeniable when Radio 2 playlisted it! It's been a messy campaign for sure, but I think it's pretty clear at this point that the singles are Never Really Over -> Small Talk (now we know this is still part of the album in some capacity) -> Daisies -> Smile.
This is probably my favourite single of hers... But I question placing it as track #1 on the album...
Also Never Really Over performed well on streaming and well she’s going to need it for the album to go at least Gold in the US.
I listened to this for the first time in a while earlier and GOD it still sounds SO good I miss this Katy.
It was only a year ago, she can't be that far gone!
It almost feels like a fluke compared to everything that's since followed it.
I think this is gonna stand out on the album like I really think the rest of the album will be more like Daisies / Smile the song than this.
Can someone block Adele from posting
They deleted my comments, as usual. It seems that telling the truth is a crime here...
I think the problem is that you have shown a vendetta against Katy in the Chart Forum which has been flagged as trolling and unnecessary hate speech. It is evident that you are a 'Little Monster' who still has this whole 'Katy VS Gaga' obsession.
Please don't visit forums just to spread hate, it really puts a dampener on the community.
Artpop was a buzz album
Why was the Daisies thing brought up wasn’t that a discussion like WEEKS ago
