Time Flies....1994 - 2009 was the second Greatest Hits compilation from Oasis. 'Stop The Clocks' came out in 2006 as the first Greatest Hits album, but only featured 18 tracks which were chosen by Noel Gallagher and came about at the end of their record contract with Sony. Time Flies...1994-2009 got released on the 14th June 2010 containing all 27 singles the band had released between 1994 and 2009 including 'Whatever and 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down' which had never appeared on any previous Oasis studio album. 'Sunday Morning Call' is not listed on the official tracklisting, but appears as a hidden track on the end of Disc 2 making it track 14, so I've decided to allow it in the rate.

6. The Importance of Being Idle - 25.00%

So just stalling outside the Top 5, but making it as the highest post 2000 track in this rate is 'The Importance of Being Idle.' Released as the second single from the bands sixth studio album 'Don't Believe The Truth', the track's vocals come courtesy of Noel Gallagher, who claimed at the time that the lyrics are inspired by his own laziness. He also stated in an interview with Q Magazine that "The Importance of Being Idle" sounds like songs from two British bands, The Kinks and The La's. In particular, the guitar playing, as well as the sentiment expressed, is noticeably similar to The Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon" and "Dead End Street". The video has a guest star from Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, who plays the role of Billy. The Gallaghers play Shadrack & Duxbury, the owners of the funeral parlour where Billy works. The rest of the band (Gem, Andy and Zak) make brief appearances as lazy workers playing cards in an undertaker's office. The video is similar in style and concept to the black and white 1966 music video for "Dead End Street" by The Kinks. Liam Gallagher's second child, Lennon also cameos in the video.

The track reached Number 1 in the UK singles chart making it the second Number 1 single from the album 'Don't Believe The Truth' and their final Number 1 single. It spent a week at Number 1 getting knocked off by the bands main rival Daman Albarn, who is one half of Gorillaz, and their hit 'Dare'.

The chart so far.....

Pretty gutted this didn't make the top 5, their last number one and a great no1 for the noughties. Imagine having this followed by 'Dare' as two No1s nowadays!!

Voted for 'Some Might Say'!

Yes well done peeps we ended up with a superb top 5, I would only have had Stand By Me in there personally.

Unfortunately it's now time to go for Wonderwall.

Even in Radio X's Oasis love-in they only had it as about 7th best Oasis song. Resigned to it finishing 3rd now, Whatever and Some Might Say are so much better.

just played some might say and wonderwall back to back. Nah, my opinion remains the same - Some Might Say is decent glam rock pastiche but not anywhere near as good as actual glamrock as a song, see any big Slade hit for comparison. Wonderwall as a song flows better, it's haunting, builds, has more subtlety. That it's been overplayed and killed by karaoke isn't enough of a reason to get me to not vote for other tracks first cool.gif
