SUCH a good year in this category - perhaps my favourite set of acting nominations ever?

Very, very, very tough to rank but I think this is how I would do so:
1 Penelope Cruz "Volver"
2 Judi Dench "Notes on a Scandal"
3 Meryl Streep "The Devil Wears Prada"
4 Kate Winslet "Little Children"
5 Helen Mirren "The Queen"

It says a lot when I've ranked Helen Mirren last when she was pretty much the perfect impersonation of Queen Elizabeth but I just loved all the performances so much this year. The top three would all be my favourites in pretty much any other year. I had to go for Penelope Cruz though just because I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role and the range of emotions she shows in Volver is incredible.

I don't think I'd change this set of nominees at all but I do think Beyonce was rather fantastic in Dreamgirls too. I do think she'd have been in my top five most years ohmy.gif
