There doesn't seem to be a topic for this already so I figured I'd make one in the hope that some of you have also seen this? Season two dropped this week and I've only just finished it, it's such a step up from the first season tbh. Basically the show follows the life of Sam - an 18 year old Autistic guy and the challenges he faces in day to day life etc. The first season is primarily focussed around his search for a girlfriend after deciding he's ready to date, the second season is moreso dealing with the aftermath of season one (no spoilers). I started watching this because it sounded interesting, I've personally not been that exposed to people on the spectrum so I was keen to see how Netflix (who are *usually* good with their rep) would write an autistic lead character. I enjoyed the first season enough but it didn't feel all that fresh and the majority of the characters are extremely unlikable and the storylines are kinda messy and clichèd but it is an easy binge as the episodes are short and the plot is well paced. After reading reviews, especially from people on the spectrum, I became aware of a lot of the flaws, like the stereotypes they've put into Sam or the show as a whole and how it isn't a good example of a kid who is Autistic etc BUT season two addressed a whole bunch of those issues I'd seen fans complaining about which was awesome to see so if you were put off by the first season, please give it another shot! Sorry this post is long but idek if anyone else watches so I'm just gonna spew my thoughts out here as well. Casey has always been my favourite character but her and Zahid especially were amazing this season. I loved how we got to see more of their relationships with Sam and more of Sam finding his own independence etc. Izzie is also a great addition to the show given that I dislike most of the other characters, I actually quite liked Amber and her mum too. I was so happy to see them introduce a peer group of kids on the spectrum too that was diverse so we weren't just having to take Sam's sole experience as Autistic representation. I know I talk about good rep a lot but its important to me and its the main thing i look for in a show. I love Evan and the guidance councilor too. Actually, I don't hate as many characters as i thought I did after this season Elsa could quite possibly be the worst character I've ever come across though and the acting on her part is just awful, Doug isn't much better. Honestly the less screen time that pair get the better. Ngl my fave thing of the whole season was Casey and Izzies enemies to friends to romantic interests ??? arc I could feel the tension between them from the get go and I'm so glad my instincts were spot on. Its gonna be shitty if they start seeing each other in secret though whilst Casey and Evan are still together after Casey spending a whole season dragging her mum for cheating :') I just hope they write their story well and Casey is well established as a bisexual character that's not stereotyped or erased etc but I'm sceptical rn |

I saw the first season last year and I really liked it, the two kids I loved especially even if I can’t rememember their names x
I was about to start season 2 last night but I watched the recap and the whole subplot of the Mum turned me off it. I hated her through most of the first season and the only redeeming part of that was how her daughter reacted to what happened at the end. I’ll try get around to watching it at some point but I honestly can’t stand her (the character & the actor) |

I love this show. This was my weekend :') watched the whole second series. Ngl I did zone out several times during the whole Elsa and Doug saga but the rest of it was great.

Just finished watching the second season, and it really is such an improvement on the first! Casey is by far and away my favourite character. I'm glad they focused some more on her this time and I'm here for her and Izzie getting together (as long as she ends her relationship first x)
Elsa seems pretty much universally hated, but I couldn't help feeling sorry for her this season. She was a pretty horrendous character in the first season, but I feel the story of trying to find redemption was well done. There definitely could have been less of her and Doug's marital issues and more about Sam/Casey however. |

It felt more genuine, more emotional. I felt connected with the characters, even the minor ones such as Casey's friends and the kids from Sam's group. Casey Wilson was also nice addition to the cast. I only wish we saw a little more Julia. Fingers crossed it gets renewed. |

Has anybody watched season 3 yet? I finished it a few days ago, and it's probably my favourite of all three so far (I've already got visions of Netflix cancelling it now though, Santa Clarita Diet style )

I did! I loved it just as much as season 2, what a brilliant series! Fingers crossed it gets a fourth and final season like GLOW did and a proper send-off!

i finished it too! casey remaining my fave ofc
i love Evan and im sad she had to do what she did but it was the right thing to do, even if her and Izzie didn't get together it still wouldn't have been fair to keep Evan on the sideline while she figured shit out |

watched it too, great show, think it can go on for a few more seasons
the kids storylines are always great, the parents storylines on the other hand it's beyond boring and been the same for 3 seasons |

We started watching this last week, only on series 1 at the moment but it's made me howl with laughter quite a few times! The brother and sister are both excellent in it.

*SEASON 3 SPOILERS WILL BE AHEAD SO THIS IS YOUR WARNING*
Finished this on Sunday and I really love it!! I got so invested in the characters and I think the portrayal of autism is actually mostly strong, from my own experience anyway. Keir Gilchrist consistently plays a blinder, he has the mannerisms down to a T and brings such a warmth to Sam. I wasn't keen on his relationship with Paige at first because of just how demanding she could be, and I don't think she understood Sam as well as she thought, but her season 3 storyline adds a sense of warmth to her which I really really liked. Sam's friendship with Zahid too I need a season 4 with Sam moving in with him! I consistently really like Casey throughout too, she has moments of acting abruptly but I don't think it's unjustified and definitely not out of character. I loved her and Evan so much too, I'm really not into her and Izzie I hope we don't lose Evan from the show as a result of their break-up (which broke my heart) Really could not stand Elsa throughout seasons 1 and 2 - she knows Sam inside out and she knew exactly how much their family being ripped apart would impact him, but she still had the affair, all while expecting better of Doug who was actually trying. However, I ended up really rooting for them to get back together at the end of season 3!! I loved Doug throughout, he was someone who knew he had flaws but was working to improve on them and make up for lost time, and his relationship with Sam is really adorable. |

Renewed for a fourth and final season. Gutted it's ending but hopefully the advance notice gives them a chance to create something truly special to end Sam's story

I’ve really been meaning to watch this for a while!
I think I’ll start it at some point this week. It jumped out to me on my suggestions. Hope it lives up to expectation. |

the only thing I can't stand from this series is the parents storyline, I Mean, who cares and they dragged for 3 seasons instead of having them a different arc story each season
the character of the mother is so unlikeable and the actress (not a big fan) doesn't help |

I'm so glad we're getting another season, and hopefully everything's wrapped up beautifully (I feel both Casey and Sam's storylines could go on forever, but obviously it'll be nice to have a proper conclusion).
