I mean, I understand his point but that's forgetting they can claim whatever the hell they like through expenses and don't work as hard as GPs.

Very out of touch, just don't know why the £20 UC hasn't been extended. It's not like it doesn't go back in the economy anyway, madness.

You must be having a LAUGH!!! rotf.gif They are on 80 bloody k PLUS EXPENSES!!!! It would be MORE than enough without expenses tacked on, too. Quick reminder that Corbyn's expensed were always between 0-5£ x

They should, I completely agree, but Murdoch and the other owners are corrupt f*ckers who have an inordinate amount of power over our politics including stirring up prejudice to divide and rule. It'd be better if people chose better media to get their news from - like why is the UK written press so horrific compared to other Western counties? Also old fashioned printed newspapers, despite being environmentally unfriendly, have an exaggerated sense of importance by our TV channels such as BBC, ITV, Sky who regularly feature their headlines in their news programmes without saying how low their circulation is and how biased they are.

Corbyn claimed a good deal more than a fiver. His expenses were indeed among the lowest, but a look at a map will help to explain why. OTOH, an MP with a constituency in, for example, rural Cumbria could not possibly meet all expenses, including running an office, on 80K.

The point was that he believed MPs were underpaid. There is a solid argument for that basing against other salaries in the professional world for the level of responsibility, that point I can agree with. However they are well paid compared to other people so they canít claim poverty as itís well above the median salary. Who cares what Corbyn expensed!?!? Iím sure like a very good socialist, he also sent his children to state school. Honestly youíre so far up his backside and people wonder why I call his followers a cult laugh.gif

Quite a look to be overtly sympathetic to pay rises for MPs who earn > £80000 and yet at the same time to be strongly against and dismissive towards the lowest paid in our society getting a bare minimum of £15/hr. A wage that barely covers rent/living costs in a highly inflationary environment, for lets face it, CRITICAL work. But then we seem to agree and be complicit in thinking it's fair to pay people in this world at a rate inversely proportional to the actual worth of their work. Maybe that's to compensate those doing Bullshit Jobs jobs for the complete lack of purpose they have to endure. Diddums.

anyway the Owen Jones video on the Tory conference is quite a watch.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hof_xx7MvO4

Yeah but if you look at it that way.. all work is critical and we're not in a communist society where everyone is paid equal. That argument you've just leveled, is a bit like me asking to be be paid the same as my Director. My work is critical to the function working.. but I don't have anywhere the same levels as responsibility or accountability. Some MPs do a shit job, but others do a cracking job. The £15 an hour argument is lame, it wouldn't even be £15 an hour until 2029!

Yoi absolutely have to be joking with that hard right extreme centre, neoliberal claptrap!!! rotf.gif It's a disgrace that the JOKE that is right wing centre politics - a proven election failure too - is seen as "serious politics".

We're all in it together - CUT the mps' wages by the same % as they will cut UC x And by the way, the ONLY mps that do a "cracking job" are those fighting for us - the people, and fightig fpr a fairer world, away from this neo-feudal neoliberal system we have for the rich, by the rich, with a military industrial arm reliant on eternal war, plus petformance politics masquerading as corporate democracy - aka, the socialists. The rest are TERRIBLE and pocket politicians. We would do better under complete and utter anarchy than under these neoliberal shills, including under Mad May.

And yes, Corbyn DID have the lowest expenses, usually below 10£ fpr the year. There is absolutely no need for endless expenses for those bought and paid for shills. The Tory who you are defending LITERALLY said it was, "even worse for newer MPs" ... presumably because they don't have their hands in the cookie jar yet. Disgraceful.

But the government keeps babbling on about an end to the low-skill, low-wage society while ignoring the fact that a lot of the jobs deemed low-skill are absolutely essential. No country can survive without people doing the jobs described as low-skilled.

Please supply the evidence that Corbyn managed to run his constituency office on ten pounds per year. HMRC might be asking questions about minimum wage legislation.

Lots of MPs do a good job for their constituents, as you know, that's what they are paid to do! For the record, I am not defending the MP, his comments are out of touch, especially in line with the unjustified UC cut. However with the level of hours worked, accountability and responsiblity, yes I can sympathise that they are paid less. Do I agree they should be given a payrise right now? No.

Hancock's UN role has been withdrawn already.

I'm guessing either they Googled him or his references came back.

Oh it was unpaid - seems to be due to his competency rather than the shag factor. Humiliation for him thoughÖ

Dominic Raab stated today that "we've seen something go wrong over the last eleven years". Who's going to tell him who has been in government for all that time?

Apparently Boris Johnson wasn't in the Commons chamber for the minute's silence for David Amess today. I assume there is a valid explanation, but it's not hard to imagine tomorrow's headlines if Keir Starmer had missed it.
