BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ How long will "Despacito" last at number one?

Posted by: danG 27th May 2017, 10:08 AM

Well it doesn't look like coming down anytime soon... how long do you think it'll remain at number one?

My guess is 10 weeks, but it could easily be more.

I say 6 to 8 weeks, surely something big will drop next month, probably a summer dance tune

Hopefully no longer than around 6-8 weeks.

6-8 weeks although eds songs stayed for 13/14 weeks and they were over a million streams for a while although maybe that'll be the norm for huge tracks from now!

Ed was helped by an album release here we won't get that boost. On the other hand the track is still GROWING in streams so I voted for 12-14 weeks! Hopefully I'm wrong though. At least we managed to have three one-weekers between two huge hits...

25 weeks

12-14 at the very least I think, could easily go further. As always it's tough to say exactly but its lead is maaaassive right now and it certainly ain't gonna slow down during the summer months

part of me hopes it does 17 weeks just to beat the record of Bryan Adams's dreadful song, but I'd very much get sick of the song by then if it's #1 for so long.

15 weeks.

Unless Clean Bandit come back with another massive collab next month, I'm gonna say another 14 at least. It's perfect for the summer months so it's only going to continue to sell and sell.

I think Major Lazer can throw this song down unless Adele is back.

If Bieber, Ed can't see hard to name anyone could be real threat

Does anyone know when Major gonna release something for summer maybe?

Posted by: danG 30th May 2017, 09:13 PM

Major Lazer have a new song out tomorrow apparently, which features Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo. I doubt it'll get anywhere near #1 though especially considering 'Run Up' only made #20.

I wonder if anything will be released from the benefit concert in Manchester on Sunday. A Bieber / Coldplay collaboration, for example, could pose a threat next week.

Good shout actually. A tribute track with proceeds going to charity could easily pose a threat to #1.

I reckon they'll have this last week, and then with the impact of this concert in Manchester on Sunday, Ariana will probably topple them. It's gonna be a huge event so it'll be impossible for it not to have an effect on the charts.

Tbh I feel like One Last Time has gained the brunt of its downloads by now - I can see it staying top 20 but I doubt it'll shift ~130k

The Black Eyed Peas will be at the Manchester concert and are rumoured to be bringing out new material, would be nice for them to be back on top after a few years break.

Coldplay (as mentioned earlier) could also knock Despacito down, whether in a collaboration or on their own. They have a new EP coming out late June and they might be planning on debuting some new stuff. Their last album saw them joining forces with Beyoncé, Tove Lo, Tim Bergling (Avicii) and even Barack Obama (laugh.gif) - so who knows what's next.

Also yeah I doubt Ariana will reach the top. I think it might go up following the concert but I wouldn't think it'd reach the top. That is, unless every performer joins together at the end to sing an extended version of One Last Time and then that gets released as a charity single.

Come to think of it that would be fking historical ohmy.gif
