Phew at Still Into You reaching the top 10. It's so easily my favourite here and I was WINCING at every low score for it. Radioactive in there too
 One of those to win (or Get Lucky but the naysayers will have put paid to that I bet) and NOT one of Waiting All Night/I Love It to win.Of those so far, Reload and Feel This Moment are far more enjoyable than their positions suggest, and PSY being beaten by that awful Nelly song is saddening. But otherwise mostly good. |

I am horrified at the fact that La La La isn't in the top 10.

It was also the highest ranked song in the rate not to receive an 11. |

Eliza Doolittle - You & Me Average Score: 7.51 Total Votes: 36 Highest Rating: 11 (Scene) Lowest Rating: 0 (Fgiboy211) Disclosure, who of course managed to get both of their appearances on Now 84 into the top 3, can only manage 7th this time round with 'You & Me'. Containing strong garage elements, the track featured Eliza Doolittle and it remains both acts' last ventures into the UK top 10 at present. Cheshire band The 1975 achieved their breakthrough with 'Chocolate', a song which despite a relatively low peak of #19 notched up 21 weeks in the UK top 75. It's by far the group's biggest hit still to this day, although they have since bettered its peak with latest release 'The Sound'. With ten 10 scores received, it was the joint-third highest in that department. Cracking the top 5 is debut solo single from John Newman, which lent him a second UK #1 single in Summer 2013 following his feature on Rudimental's 'Feel The Love' the previous year. Only the top 4 tracks in the rate managed average scores of above 8 this time round. |

Justin Timberlake - Mirrors Average Score: 8.07 Total Votes: 36 Highest Rating: 11 (vibe) Lowest Rating: -1 (Jason) Two UK #1s up next (as is in fact the entire top 5!) and two of the most successful comeback singles in recent years. 'Mirrors' was Justin Timberlake's first hit as lead artist since 2007's 'Lovestoned' (of course he did have one a few weeks before in 'Suit And Tie' but let's forget about that one  ) and it earned him a huge #1 single, only his second solo UK #1 after 'SexyBack' some 7 years prior. It also became one of the longest #1s ever (in terms of song length) at a marathon-long 8 and a half minutes.An even bigger comeback single takes bronze medal in the Now 85 Rate. 'Get Lucky' really did come out of nowhere, yet it shot straight to #1 on iTunes with an insurmountable lead for numerous weeks. It became the French band's first ever UK #1 single in their first visit to the charts in nearly 8 years. The song spent a month at #1, selling over a million copies and the featured artist, Pharrell Williams would incredibly go on to have 2 even bigger hits within the space of 9 months. These 2 tracks were the only songs within the top 10 to receive -1 scores. So we are left with quite a surprising top 2 in my eyes: I Love It Vs Need U (100%) - whose side are you on? 1. Icona Pop feat. Charli XCX - I Love It Average Score: 8.36 Total Votes: 36 Highest Rating: 11 (mr_pmt & Riser) Lowest Rating: 0 (Fgiboy2511) 2. Duke Dumont feat. A*M*E - Need U (100%) Average Score: 8.28 Total Votes: 36 Highest Rating: 11 (n4yr) Lowest Rating: 0 (Jimmy Jam) So two debut singles comprise the top 2 in this rate! 'Need U (100%)' went straight to #1 in April 2013 for DJ Duke Dumont. The throwback 90s-inspired track spent a fortnight at #1, famously holding off a campaign track in wake of Margaret Thatcher's recent death in its second week at the top. Your Now 85 Rate winners are therefore Icona Pop & Charli XCX with catchy pop track 'I Love It'. It was extremely close all the way through between these 2, in fact up to the final 3 rates received they were on identical scores (albeit Get Lucky was actually in the lead at that point). It is a first victory for both acts and a superbly ground out one at that. 'I Love It' was a massive hit across Europe & the USA many months before it crossed over on these shores but needless to say it debuted at #1 in May 2013. The Swedish duo would only have one more top 40 hit afterwards but it became the platform for Charli XCX to embark on a successful solo career, including a US #1 single featuring on Iggy Azalea's Fancy the following year. As it was, 'I Love It' managed an average score of 8.36, not one of the highest but by no means a low score either. Well done! Thanks to the 35 other participants in this rate. As it stands I'm only planning on hosting the remaining 5 yet to complete between the editions of 30 & 89 before I have a special finalé in mind subject to mod approval. We're going a good few years back again next time so keep a look out for the next one up later tonight! |
