BuzzJack Music Forum _ Rihanna _ Most underrated Rihanna song?!

Posted by: Jack 17th September 2014, 08:25 PM

I would personally say this little beauty;

Stunning wub.gif HOW BOUT YOU.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 17th September 2014, 08:29 PM

^ love it.

Mine will always be this (which happens to be my #1 song from her, so obviously biased when it comes to others not appreciating it):

Should have been a single tbh

Posted by: Liаm 17th September 2014, 08:29 PM

Man Down.

Even if it is appreciated, it's not appreciated enough <3

Posted by: Jack 17th September 2014, 08:38 PM

Oh I agree about Rehab when it comes to singles, so stunning and the lyrics are so touching/relatable as well.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 17th September 2014, 08:42 PM

If i was to think of album tracks, i'd probably go for 'Half Of Me' which is definitely a highlight off of 'Unapologetic' so how it was just tacked on as a bonus track i'll never know!?

'G4L' is a BEAST too but i think that's a widely accepted opinion, yes? (at least it better be biggrin.gif)

Yes! Was always one of my favourites from the GGGB era.

For me it would have to be this absolute beauty:

Definitely in my Rihanna top 3. Just so sensual.

Another one would be 'Do Ya Thang'. Not even sure what it is about it but I just love it.

Also, before the singles knockout I wouldn't have ever thought they were underrated but 'Birthday Cake' and 'Pour It Up'!
Some of my absolute favourites, especially the former (and especially the Chris Brown version). Was obsessed with it for weeks when it first premiered.

Posted by: Jack 17th September 2014, 08:55 PM

Yes I love Do My Thang, so cute! wub.gif She does have really strong albums despite what people say about them being filler, her first two are pretty poor but pretty much everything else since then has been strong.

Posted by: Cremey 17th September 2014, 08:58 PM

For some reason I always think of them as being filler until I listen to them! sad.gif Haha.
'Rated R' will always be my favourite though I think.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 17th September 2014, 08:59 PM

Cry is amazing, but I think California King Bed is probably her most underrated single. It's amazing, unlike a lot of her other less appreciated works.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 17th September 2014, 09:00 PM

'Do Ya Thang' yes wub.gif

And i agree Jack, she often gets unfairly tarnished as just having the singles and that's it. But then you look at 'Loud' and 'Rated R' in particular and they have one (two at the very most) fillers and the rest is either good or amazing. Though looking at it now and I'd go as far as to say 'Rated R' doesn't even have one!? The latest two have had a fair bit of filler though, and even some monstrosities ('Nobody's Business', 'Cockiness...', 'Loveeeeeee Song' to name a few) so i am hoping the next album is a return to good album form and consistency.

Posted by: Cremey 17th September 2014, 09:09 PM

I'm really hoping the wait for the album will mean it's an altogether stronger and more focused album than the last two. While they've had a lot of standouts, they really weren't up to the standard of 'Rated R' and 'LOUD' and it's just annoying when we all know what she's capable of!

Posted by: Jack 17th September 2014, 09:15 PM

I think this is the most excited I have been for a Rihanna album, or actually album in general in a LONG time.

Posted by: Iz~ 17th September 2014, 09:23 PM

I really thought I was the only one who appreciated Do Ya Thang <3

Basically every album track off Rated R needs more love (no matter how much it has already), those already mentioned yes but also Stupid In Love particularly, I have a big soft spot for that.

My big one I think though is Fading, always one that seems to get skipped over from Loud (even more underrated than CKB, which sorely needs more love for one of her singles) but I think it (Fading) is one of her most accomplished and beautiful ballads.

Ah definitely – literally have no idea what sort of direction she'll be taking which makes it even more exciting!

If It's Lovin' That You Want (PART 2)
Lemme Get That
We All Want Love

Posted by: THEO. 17th September 2014, 10:43 PM

"If I Never See Your Face Again"

I know it's only a feature but it was included on Good Girl Gone Bad so I'm counting it. I have no idea how it flopped given it was basically the follow-up to "Umbrella" but I think it's a great duet between the two artists. I know it's one of Rihanna's poppiest efforts but she was pretty much a pop artist from 2005-8 and only since 2009 has she branched into different sub-genres in my opinion.

Posted by: mr_aly 17th September 2014, 10:44 PM

I'll have to refer to the Rated R era here, 'Russian Roulette' is properly her forgotten/overlooked single now and it kills me that the inferior and more shallow 'Diamonds' is more well known. sad.gif So dark, haunting, devastatingly beautiful.

'Rockstar 101' gets a lot of unfair hate, I love the brash attitude and how she really lets herself go in it (though I do agree it was a huge mistake to try and make it a single), also 'Cold Case Love' is possibly my favourite ballad of hers.

Gah, that album really showed she does have talent. I'd kill for something like it again.

Big yes from me!

To name one that hasn't been said at all... probably 'Good Girl Gone Bad' (song). Always been a very clear highlight from that album for me and we also have 'Farewell' from 'Talk That Talk to mention in here. Stunning in every aspect!

'rockstar 101' and 'g4l' for SURE. both absolutely fantastic.

Posted by: Iz~ 18th September 2014, 01:14 AM

I've come round to Rockstar 101 quite a bit lately. It used to be my clear least-favourite on Rated R, so I'd definitely agree it's underrated (the position of least-favourite-on-the-best-album may actually fall to Rude Boy now).

DRUNK ON LOVE!

Her best song EVER. (After S&M)

Posted by: *Tim 18th September 2014, 07:49 AM

Definately Cry. One of Rihanna's best ballads ever!

Also Skin is the sex anthem of our generation, tho I'm not sure whether that one is underrated

Posted by: Simon. 18th September 2014, 06:15 PM

Released song wise it would be 'Russian Roulette' bad.

Posted by: Atonement 18th September 2014, 09:40 PM

'If It's Loving That You Want'! Probably dismissed because it's different from what her fans like about her and one of her first singles, but those steel drums really give the song a nice touch.

Posted by: Ryan. 19th September 2014, 01:33 AM

I'm another one who would say 'Russian Roulette' is definitely Rihanna's most underrated single. As Aly says it's so dark and haunting yet so emotional and gripping to listen to.
