Brits Critics' Choice winner Sam Fender has confirmed his debut album will be out later this year, he's also re-releasing Play God as his next single:
Really looking forward to the album!
Love the current single, looking forward to this!
Pre-order is now available through his website. Loving his output at the moment, a deserved winner of Critics’ Choice.
Wtf he's so good, I didn't know what I expected but I'm here for him!! Think Spice is my fave so far but Play God is very good too.
Play God is Greg James’ Tune of the Week on Radio 1 this week so I’d imagine a playlist slot isn’t too far off.
EDIT: It’s already C List oop
Just heard Play God and now devouring the rest of his songs on Spotify.
Its all really good!
Is it true the albums out of been leaked??
I was listening to the iTunes thread when someone got Sam Fender mixed up with Tom Walker!
Play God is now his first charting single in the UK at #95!
Doing well on iTunes (top 40) and top 200 on streams!
Saw him last night in Brixton and going to his upcoming London shows in Bethnal Green & Shepherds Bush - I think this will be the last time I’ll ever get to see him perform in intimate venues as from the reaction last night and the music he’s produced so far he is going to absolutely smash with his album.
Don't worry, nothing of Sam's leaked. Someone got him mixed up with Tom Walker
I had no interest in him before but I absolutely love 'Play God', glad to see it at least going top 100 for him as he doesn't exactly scream singles artist.
Just as "Play God" is picking up, Sam's announced that a new song is dropping tomorrow!
Ah nice! Looking forward to that
Hopefully we get an album release date and title as well.
"Hypersonic Missiles" is going to be premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show tonight.
Fantastic! From the title I imagine it will be another politics-based song
Damn this is incredible! I can see this being my fave of his. Absolutely love the saxophone!
I love this new song it sounds a bit like The Killers.
Soooo melodic, I love it This might overtake Play God as my fave so far!
I love The Killers, this sounds nothing like them.
This is his voice lol, he sounds no different here to what he does in The Sound and it's a banger.
Announcement tomorrow! Seems like it will be for the album
It's called 'Hypersonic Missiles' and it's out on August 9th.
Tracklisting:
1. Hypersonic Missiles
2. The Borders
3. White Privilege
4. Dead Boys
5. You’re Not The Only One
6. Play God
7. That Sound
8. Saturday
9. Will We Talk In The Morning?
10. Two People
11. Call Me Lover
12. Leave Fast
13. Use (live)
So hyped for this album - I’ve seen him live several times now and am going to his upcoming Shepherds Bush shows, he just keeps getting better and better and I’m sure he won’t be playing these intimate venues for much longer.
Have totally been a stan for the album pre-orders so far!! But I have all his white vinyl 7” etc., so keeping the collection going.
So far I’ve ordered - Coloured Vinyl, CD, Cassette, Minidisc, Amazon Exclusive CD, Independent Stores Clear Vinyl
Indie stores were allowed to sell any remaining Record Store Day stock online from midnight tonight and Banquet have some Sam Fender 7” if anyone was looking for a copy (Be quick though they had 154 copies available and every time I look the number is dropping), so pleased I finally managed to get one

Patrick Topping Remix is out this week
He's cancelled lots of festivals over the past few, and next few weeks due to illness, which is a shame. I was supposed to see him at IOW, but cancelled and was replaced by Yungblud (so I wasn't complaining )
Was expecting new music in the next week with the album out in 6 weeks!
This is absolutely fantastic! Can't wait for the album
The album has been pushed back a month to September 13 due to Sam's illness - he hasn't been able to work on it.
A bit of a shame, but I get why. Loving the new track though!
Video for 'Will We Talk?' is out now! So hyped for the album - could be one of my faves of the year
Same here albeit it's lost momentum after the current single which is t my favourite!
That's a shame - I think both the song Hypersonic Missiles and Will We Talk are both my faves of his.
It took me a while with HM but the previous 2 singles from last December and Feb were immense, think I like his rockier sound.
Live 'solo' version of Will We Talk? recorded at Capitol Studios out today
"The Borders" will be the next single from the album and it's out now.
Absolutely love this! Reminds me a bit of The Smiths (which is always a welcome comparison for me), and I'm happy it's a nice long track at 5:32.
bit disappointing he sounds again too much like brandom flowers
he's so inconsistent :/
Or maybe that's just his voice?
He sounds no different than his other releases.
Literally can’t wait for the album - I’ve heard most of the songs at his shows and am so ready for him to dominate the charts.
Can't wait for this. The Borders does sound more like Springsteen and The Killers than they do though. Roll on next Fri!
He’s already racked up just under 16k on pre-orders from his website, launch shows and Amazon so should easily get the well deserved #1 place Hopefully he’ll manage to sneak in the Top 40 singles too with ‘Will We Talk’
That's class for him, prob helped by the long time the albums been on as a preorder and the delays - means he will likely sell 40k imo!
Went to both of his album launch shows at Banquet last night - amazing to see him in a tiny venue although I know it’s going to be one of the last times. After his upcoming UK tour he’ll be moving onto Arenas.
16K pre orders is pretty impressive!!
I can see this being one of those long running like albums.
I have a feeling he’s due a big single sometime soon but it’ll come from a big TV slot promo boost.
Can't wait to hear this tomorrow morning, even if we have already heard over half of it. Looking forward to listening to the singles in an album context.
Every single review has been positive so far. I think the first week sales and longevity will take a few people by surprise - it’s the R1 album of the weekend this week too.
The Guardian 4/5
NME 4/5
Independent 4/5
Telegraph 4/5
AllMusic 4/5
Q 4/5
Metacritic 84%
Only 45mins to go - looking forward to giving this a spin over the weekend!
^^ Literally waiting up to stream it and have got a HEFTY amount of physicals arriving tomorrow.
He said at his album launch shows there would definitely be a deluxe version with bonus tracks released too.
We should have a listening party at midnight lol
I'm having a listening party with one of my chums at 9am!
I would tonight if I didn't have to get up early tomorrow - can't wait though!
It's already an 8/10 without me hearing the new songs. Can't wait to see how the likes of Play God and That Sound work in an album context. The latter reminds me of being freezing cold as it was big (on the radio) in January! Dead Boys is a classic autumn masterpiece too.
Streaming now - Love ‘Call Me Lover’ also pleased ‘Leave Fast’ got included - such a Jeff Buckley moment!
WWT reduces to 59p and up to #18 on iTunes - really hope he can sneak in the Top 40 next week
Impressed with this after one listen, like the way the new songs generallly sound like fresh territory for him too. Listen #2 on an actual stereo coming shortly. The lyrics on White Privilege are brilliantly scathing! Wasn't expecting him to actually drop the C-bomb on this.
Also, https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/sam-fender-interview-hypersonic-missiles-new-album-a9097611.html is fantastic.
Just hearing this now. I had no idea he sounded as much like The Killers as he did!
Okay this sounds excellent on Tidal Hi-Fi via my stereo. The Borders is phenomenal in album context. Love the urgency! This song is VERY Springsteen/Killers/War on Drugs but that's not a bad thing at all. Even though I'm more of a singles guy, I can see me going back to this repeatedly. The best act to come out of this part of the world in a long time.
I'm pretty impressed with the album on a first listen. The Bandon Flowers / Springsteen comparisons are very real. I'd thought the same about some of his songs before the album came out. As The Killers' second album was very Springsteen-esque, the similarity to both is understandable.
Will We Talk? has climbed up to #58 this week - now making it his highest charting single! The Borders has also entered at #94 - very good for an almost 6 minute track.
I've just started my first listen of the album
‘Will We Talk’ becomes his highest charting single climbing to #58 today - hopefully it can go Top 40 next week, and pleased to see ‘The Boarders’ has snuck in at #94.
Just posted that
WWT at #11 on iTunes Really hope it goes Top 10 on there to give it and the album some extra exposure.
Also the album is now #1 and #2 on Amazon - can’t wait to see the first sales update.
It's top 10 now - good 59p reduction helping it. If Graham Norton was back he coulda had a release week performance
I thought this would really struggle on streaming but it’s #2 on Apple and 3 songs are in their Top 100 tracks chart.
Opening on a massive 28,990 - so deserved
And it's debuted at #1! What a fantastic album
Great start in the charts announced so far -
UK #1
Ireland #6
Belgium (Flanders) #14
Germany #19
The Netherlands #40
Australia #62
Belgium (Wallonia) #69
Also back up to #2 on iTunes and still Top 3 on Amazon so should have a strong 2nd week
What has he done to upset the Walloons?
Gutted he couldn't get a Top 40 single but great to see the album smashing it. Suppose he doesn't sing enough lovesick ballads to be a big singles artist. Nonetheless, three top sixty singles isn't to be sniffed at in this climate. I can't see me tiring of this album for a long time, he's making my stat-based personal chart a nightmare to compile! I hope he has a long and glorious career.
I was a big fan of those early singles that didn't make the cut so I've made myself a little fake https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3MSBRWisF4fPB1P9Cn8LyC?si=MzH5DA1hTOOqsXfpv3JOcg. Dead Boys has its cinematic long intro back!
I've been getting into this album so much these last few days. It's really, REALLY good. So much more interesting than the bog standard British male singer-songwriter tripe we're usually known for.
'White Privilege' really deserves to go viral.
New UK tour announced
I’ve seen him so many times now and each show just gets better and better.
Tickets to 4 shows in the pre-sale this morning Both Manchester dates and Newcastle went in minutes!
Just bought this today and I’m really enjoying it. Finally a new artist I can get on board with.
He's great, listened to the album again this week and I think it's just hitting me - what an album!
White Privilege & Call Me Lover ❤️
Had it on constant repeat.
I really like ‘Call Me Lover’ but interesting in Sam’s interviews it only made the cut due to the record companies insistence and he didn’t want it on there.
Deluxe version has been confirmed by Sam and will feature some of the amazing tracks left off that he’s been performing live over the past year.
Hyped for a deluxe version!
Great album, one of my faves of 2019
Can see why Call Me Lover might be regarded as one of the more MOR points but I really like it and it works at that stage of the album. Sounds like it might be a future single if the record company insisted on it being on there? Plus, his previous singles have been much more uptempo so probably time for a bit of a ballad. I reckon it could sound really effective on the radio in the winter!
Yeh it'll have a December release date I think!
Thought The Borders was meant to be the next single but it will surely need a bit of an edit. And doesn't seem to have much of a chorus despite being fantastic.
I know an act like Sam dosen’t need a huge single to sell albums but would love him to get some hits - frustrating that WWT peaked at #43 and HM at #48.
Music Week have reported it’s the 80th best selling album of the year so far - great achievement after 3 weeks.
Sam recorded Jonathan Ross tonight and will be aired at the weekend - great promo slot and the album has climbed back up to #10 in the miss today and should get a decent boost next week after the show has been aired.
Wonder what he performed?!
Great performance on Jonathan Ross - the album has moved back up to #10 on iTunes and WWT is #43.
‘The Borders’ being pushed as the next single - video coming tomorrow, should help keep interest in the album.
Interesting video!
Will We Talk? Is gonna be on Now 104
Finally got round to hearing this, what a debut! Nothing beats Play God though
The comments on his White Privilege https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KrdJHwdBFI is... :')
They hate the truth :')

‘Saturday’ is track of the week at radio X
His album has been reduced to £7.99 for a limited time on Amazon
UK tour starts this week Who’s going?
'Saturday' now added to Radio 1's playlist. Good choice of next single.
Yeh I agree, one of the most accessible songs on the album!
Saturday video coming tomorrow
And it stars Super Hans!
(Releasing 6pm today)
Brilliant video, and a great choice for the next single.
Fantastic video and single choice - hopefully this will help with people discovering the album and will become a hit for him, it’s painful that he hasn’t had a Top 40 single yet.
Also it’s Greg James song of the week on Radio 1
Vinyl reduced to £14 as part of Amazon’s deals - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hypersonic-Missiles-VINYL-Sam-Fender/dp/B07QRPGY4G/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=sam+fender&qid=1575149614&sr=8-1
That's a tempting offer have to say.
Love Saturday probably my fave song off the album so great single choice
Not sure why he has just bypassed me but finally checked this out a couple of weeks ago and it incredible, so good! Adore the title track in particular, of course Play God and that saxophone in The Borders and You're Not the Only One
Glad you have discovered him - he seems to be getting more fans daily
Will he be on the Brits list for breakthrough and British album?
He deserves it like!
Yeah, if he is nominated for Album - he also would be for Male.
I would be very surprised if he’s not nominated - he’s the darling of Radio 1 atm and The Brits obviously always like to support Critics Choice winners, he’s certainly deserving of the nominations too!
His greatest song and total fan favourite ‘All Is On My Side’ is being released at midnight
Yes! Can't wait for this
Must check it out!
Absolutely loving this!
Really love this!
I need to listen again, but it passed me by one my first (and currently only) listen of it earlier.
A new 3 track EP of stripped back versions of his songs has been added to iTunes and streaming
Listened to the album again this week, def one of the best if 2019!
"Will We Talk?" has grown on me so much and has ended up claiming my Christmas number 1 of 2019, knocking Billie Eilish off! The ding dang dongs certainly helped I think
It took a while to grow on me too but eventually peaked top5, I've moved onto 'Saturday' now though.
Pleased to see the album return to the Top 30 this week - hopefully will get boosted further when all the ‘Best Of 2019’ lists are released.
It certainly will and what with the Brits in Feb it should sell a fair bit more in Q1!
‘Will We Talk’ 15th most played track of 2019 on R1 - so deserved a Top 40 peak.
I've been particularly enjoying the stripped live versions on Spotify recently.
'Hold Out' is releasing tomorrow!
This is really good!
Love that he finally decided to release this after leaving it off the album - it’s now available on streaming and iTunes etc.,
Yeah he's also confirmed it's the last song of the Hypersonic Missiles era!
So the next actual single will likely be the lead for album 2 - I can see that coming at the end of this year hopefully.
Up to a decent #54 on iTunes
I found this fantastic performance from 6 years ago! A man commenting then got it spot on with "Sam Fender - remember that name!!"
He has (half?) jokingly promised another load of Bruce Springsteen rip-offs for his next record and that's absolutely fine by me!
As expected ‘Hold Out’ didn’t hold on to its Top 100 placing (It was #95 in the first mids) but along with The Brits exposure it’s helped the album return back to the Top 40 at 32 after being 43, 42 and 41 for the past few weeks.
UK tour confirmed as cancelled today which was due to start on Friday - obviously the right/only decision.
Sam's has some really bad luck with his tours being on - none of which being his fault of course.
Dead Boys EP on vinyl has been reduced from £14.99 to £8.99 on HMV (Worth it for the Dead Boys Prelude alone ) https://store.hmv.com/store/music/vinyl/dead-boys-ep
Sam has announced he's releasing his live lounge cover of Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black' tomorrow:
Yes! Hyped for that
His version is ICONIC!! So pleased he’s releasing it.
oh great cover! just makes you realise how fantastic the original is
I like his voice in this one, really can't stand it when he imitates Brandon Flowers but he sings fine here
So pleased he’s released this as most live lounge tracks are restricted to YouTube and physicals of the R1 album.
He’s managed to make the song his own and shows of the best of his voice - really reminds me of Jeff Buckley.
The have released a video for the song but the R1 live lounge video is obviously far superior - they should have pushed that maybe?
Also the song has made it to Top 50 on iTunes so far
Vinyl reduced to £15.99 on HMV and Amazon... it’s just one of those records that sounds so much better on vinyl like The XX, Tame Impala and London Grammar.
Amazing to see Sam get 4 tracks in the Radio X ‘Best Of British’ Top 100 including ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ at #10
Vinyl available for £9.99 on his website - https://store.universalmusic.com/samfender/*/Music/HYPERSONIC-MISSILES-STANDARD-VINYL/64KN0PRX000
Managed to snag the hmv 1921 exclusive Spearmint Green vinyl of this
