I've just read the book in which this film is based (by Gillian Flynn, released in 2012) and was absolutely hooked on it, and I've just found out that it's due for release at the end of the year which is great news! Without wanting to give too much away (if you've not read the film or watched the trailers) the story tells of the dysfunctional relationship between Nick and Amy Dunne (played by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike respectively) with an explosive twist. It's out on October 3 (I'm unsure if that's a US-only date) and the original trailer can be seen here. Oh and it's produced by Reese Witherspoon which is even more *.* This post has been edited by THEO.: Jul 27 2014, 08:35 PM |

This looks absolutely amazing. Anything David Fincher touches turns to gold though, so there really shouldn't be any surprises!

I finished reading the book today, in fact it was this thread that gave me the final push to go and buy it after considering it for a while!
I really enjoyed it and am really looking forward to the movie, don't know if discussing plot details in spoiler tags is a good idea (don't want to tempt people!) but I found the ending quite sudden. Didn't mind the way it ended, just expected it to go on a bit more. Absolutely love Rosamund Pike too. Ben I'm a bit ehh on but Nick as a character I was really rooting for. |

The book is boring as f***. Both the lead characters are horrible, uninteresting people. Fincher is my favourite director but he's got a fight on his hands making something decent out of Gone Girl. We'll see.

The movie script has been rewritten by Gillian Flynn with a different ending. I agree with you, Jark, that the characters are unlikable for the majority of the book but I think (especially with Amy) the actors playing the leads will definitely endear them to the audience.

Reviews are in. Raves all round. All agree that it's a career best role for Rosamund Pike, and Ben is getting high praise too. Apparently it builds into something quite (blackly) funny as the film goes on.
V excited now. |

I don't like the turn the plot takes in the book, but I have to say this is one of the most well made trailers I've ever seen. The 'He may truly... kill me' repetition at the end is really powerful. I love David Fincher.
1) Seven 2) The Socail Network 3) Fight Club 4) Panic Room Girl With a Dragon Tattoo was very strong, but was too similar to the Swedish original for it to warrant too much praise from me. I was really disappointed with Zodiac and Benjamin Button was too cheesy for me, despite a great performance from Cate. All in all, I'm looking forward to this! 'Zodiac' is probably my second favourite of his, behind 'Se7en' (one of my all time favourite films). The attention to detail he put in that film with the real events is actually INSANE! That's what I love about his work in general though, you can tell he loves his job and isn't willing to do something, unless he can do it perfectly. So I have faith in this!

So glad I've started reading this in anticipation for the film, which unsurprisingly looks excellent!
When does the book get really good? I'm about 120 pages in, and while it's interesting, the narrative can be slightly confusing at times. I'm fully expecting a massive twist shortly, but it's not really got to must-read just yet. |

When part two begins at around page 200. Keep at it, it's so worth it. |

Yep! As expected, David Fincher strikes again! A very tense, thriller drama in only the way David knows how! The cast as a whole were excellent together and I love how the story unfolded and how events turned out. I'm not too sure about how the book ended, but the film ended pretty well and not very Hollywood-friendly.
Rosamund was most certainly brilliant (such a psychotic bitch!)! Ben delivered a great performance too, but I'm a fan of Ben so I wasn't surprised about that. Neil Patrick-Harris worked really well within the film especially as it was a fair bit different to things he's done in the past/people are used to seeing him as and the same goes for Tyler Perry really, someone who I find quite annoying and unfunny usually, but in this film he plays his role perfectly. As someone who's not read the book and only heard certain things about it, I think this is one of those rare cases where as a book, it can be a bit of a struggle to read. But it came across really well in the film! (Probably with thanks to Fincher, but still...) Definitely recommended. |

Just finished watching - it was enjoyable to watch and kept me going in the same way that the book is a major page-turner. But I ultimately felt just as unsatisfied by the end. I found act 1 intriuging, act 2 thrilling and tense, but act 3 just got sloppy for me.
That being said, Pike was fantastic, and this role should give her the push from being a kind of B-list, sort of known but promising Hollywood actress to a well respected name. |

I hadn't realised that Missi Pyle was in this playing Ellen Abbott! She was perfect for this role.
The film lived up to my very high expectations. I did notice a couple of differences/things that were left out (no Andie biting Nick, no video of him being filmed at The Bar and being posted online) but I appreciate that it's already long as a movie - I did think that some parts felt more rushed but maybe it feels that way because I took my time reading the book. I think they did a very good job with the timelines/showing Amy's diary entries and I loved the narrative from Rosamund Pike. I liked the humour too, the cops played very well into that. And I don't think it was intended to be funny but I was amused at the part when Rosamund slit Neil Patrick Harris' throat. I was a tad unsatisfied with the end as I was with the book but I think it worked better here. |

I loved the book so so much. Finished it today at last so I now need to watch the trailer that I have been avoiding till I finished the book. Loved the twist and everything about it
