The 2nd movie in Phase 4 of the MCU.

This looks so good. Getting Doctor Strange meets Black Panther vibes from the feel & tone of it... but we'll see if it's actually any better than DS.

Looks pretty impressive

Yup looking forward to it! And anything with Michelle Yeoh in it is automatically much better than it might otherwise have been, or makes it even greater than it would have been without her smile.gif

Absolutely SMASHING it at the Box Office. It got a US record by becoming the biggest Labor Day Weekend Box Office ever with ~$90m!

I saw it last week and whilst I didn't "love" it, I didn't not enjoy it. I'm seeing it again tomorrow, but I just thought tonally, it was a mess. It wasn't sure of whether it wanted to be a Marvel movie, a martial arts movie or a Live Action Disney original (something like 'Artemis Fowl' or 'A Wrinkle In Time' etc..) I loved the more Marvel and Martial Arts stuff, but Idk, the rest just didn't click for me. I didn't dislike or hate ANY of it, I just felt very "meh" at a lot of it.

I absolutely adored the cast though and thought Simu Liu was incredible. VERY excited to see him in a big team up movie and Awkwafina slayed her role!

Hopefully I can appreciate it more on 2nd viewing, coz everyone else I know who has seen it has loved it. But for me I have it 3rd bottom in my MCU rankings. Oops ('Doctor Strange' and 'Iron Man 2' are firmly last)

I think I've only seen nine of the Marvel movies (everything from Guardians of the Galaxy through to Spider-Man: Homecoming, plus Spider-Man: Far From Home), so I'm not a massive fan but I'd say this was my favourite aside from the Spider-Man movies, I really loved it! There was some really good choregraphed fighting, I loved the bus scene and the one on the side of the building, the action scenes towards the conclusion were a bit less exciting for me but I still came away really impressed, having not being sure in advance whether I'd like it or not. Simu Liu was really good (this has me giving Kim's Convenience another shot) and I seem to adore Awkwafina in anything I see her in.

I did a complete U-Turn on this btw laugh.gif

First listen I gave it 2 and a half on my Letterboxd, but the rewatch I gave it a 4 tearsmile.gif

I should never doubt Marvel. Ever.

Finally got to see this! Thanks to Disney+

It's a big-budget martial arts film with Hollywood gloss (unsurprisingly) and a tad on the long side, but a solid 7/10 overall. Awkwafina & Michelle Yeoh are as great as always, the lead needs to keep his shirt off more often, and I'm in favour of Asian culture on screen, gives me serious nostalgia vibes seeing Chinese-style dragons, hills, fantasy lions, pagoda-style buildings and all the rest in glorious technicolour big-screen: stuff I saw as a kid on black & white TV, street parades, stickers, cards, comics, books, superheroes, Monkey, walking round....so a bit like my bedroom walls then ohmy.gif laugh.gif

I enjoyed the Benedict cameos, and the linking easter-eggs to the Marvel Universe, it's action-packed, but plotwise makes sense throughout and sets up quite a few threads for later pay-off, the cast was also good overall, with Ben Kingsley doing a fun comic Scouse turn Iron Man revisit. My main whinge is for the small subtitles. Even with my glasses on! As a Marvel film, not so much a sci-fi superhero as much as a fantasy super-hero story, so it'll be interesting to see how Shang-Chi blends in with others - though obv Dr Strange & co is a nice fit to look forward to.

Really enjoyed this too, thanks Disney+! The soundtrack was brilliant and I actually really liked all the cost. I did find myself thinking some of the special effects were pretty poor, but I bloody loved the bus action sequence, that was fantastic. Thought it was a bit of a lame set-up to bring them in to the MCU connected world, but looking forward to seeing how that one goes. I really wasn't sure if I'd like this, I can take or leave some of the Marvel films as I enjoy them but I'm not a hardcore!

There's a funny Twitter thread from an actual San Fransisco bus driver listing all of the violations of health & safety going on - bus driver had headphones on, looked back at what was going on while driving instead of using his mirror, didn't immediately stop the bus, etc etc. I'm afraid I was saying the same thing during the sequences! Things they got right: someone live streaming on youtube rather than getting out the way or helping laugh.gif
