OMG. 'The Only Exception' has been beaten by 'Just Be Good To Green'? So disappointed sleep.gif

'the only exception' is my least favourite single of the 'brand new eyes' era, imo. and 'just be good to green''s chorus is terribly catchy. lily allen in particular. wub.gif

I'll cover the top 10 albums for now, before I do the rest of the singles.
SO.

10:

The Saturdays - Headines.
(Highlight Tracks - Ego, Higher, Puppet)
(Lowlight Tracks - Forever Is Over)

- to bring off the top 10 albums, the latest EP from the saturdays. it's quite solid, although the fact that it's an EP and it doesn't have many songs on it hinders it from holding a higher position. still, if all the tracks on their last two albums held tracks like this, it would be brilliant.

09:

3OH!3 - Streets of Gold.
(Highlight Tracks - Streets of Gold, Deja Vu, I Can Do Anything, I'm Not the One)
(Lowlight Tracks - Love 2012, See You Go)

- and now we have the only album in the top 10 by a male artist/group, and hell, it's a strong album! the lowlight tracks bring it down a little bit, and the singles released from it weren't the best, but still it always makes a great listen. it's full of electropop, party music.

08:

Kate Nash - My Best Friend is You.
(Highlight Tracks - Paris, Do Wah Doo, Pickpocket, Mansion Song)
(Lowlight Tracks - I Just Love You More)

- here we have the latest flop album from the legend herself, kate nash. while not as quality as 'made of bricks', this album has got some great, catchy highlights. then it has the strange, strange songs 'I just love you more' which consists of screaming, and 'mansion song' which contains brilliant, brilliant lyrics. kink.gif

07:

Kesha - Animal.
(Highlight Tracks - Blind, Dinosaur, Your Love is My Drug, Backstabber)
(Lowlight Tracks - Stephen)

- and here is the great album from kesha. dr. luke is amazing, and seen as he produced most of the songs on the album, it was always going to turn out well. sadly, 'blind' did not get the chance to be a single to show that different, non-trashy side to her which could have helped people choose to buy the album.

06:

Katy Perry - Teenage Dream.
(Highlight Tracks - E.T, Peacock, Teenage Dream, Firework)
(Lowlight Tracks - Who Am I Living For?)

- and here we have the stereotypical buzzjack member's album of the year. I think it's better than her debut, and there are some great songs that have potential to be singles, which, thankfully, some of them are.

05:

Marina and the Diamonds - The Family Jewels.
(Highlight Tracks - Oh No!, Hermit the Frog, I Am Not a Robot, Hollywood, Guilty)
(Lowlight Tracks - Obsessions)

- and here is the great debut album from marina and the diamonds. at first I thought it was pretty crap, but it took a couple more listens to grow and now I like every song on the abum, although 'obsessions' does feel a little lackluster.

04:

Ellie Goulding - Bright Lights.
(Highlight Tracks - Your Biggest Mistake, Starry Eyed, Salt Skin, Human, The Writer, Guns and Horses)
(Lowlight Tracks - Animal, Everytime You Go, Under the Sheets)

- here we have the quality album from ellie goulding. it's full of electropop songs, full of stunning vocals and some songs give me chills. I loved it from the first listen, when it was just 'lights', and I really liked the re-release tracks as well, 'human' in particular. happy she's getting the recognition she deserves.

03:

Kylie Minogue - Aphrodite.
(Highlight Tracks - Too Much, All the Lovers, Get Outta My Way, Closer, Cupid Boy)
(Lowlight Tracks - Aphrodite, Looking For An Angel)

- and here we have the brilliant new album from kylie minogue. it's just one more piece of music that proves that her music is a lot better now than it was a couple of decades ago. it's very dancey, and anthemic. it'd be almost perfect if those two lowlight tracks were not there.

02:

Rihanna - Loud.
(Highlight Tracks - Cheers, Complicated, Fading, Only Girl, California King Bed)
(Lowlight Tracks - Raining Men, Skin)

- and just missing out on the top spot is rihanna's new, and imo, best album. just like kylie's album, those two lowlight tracks stop it from being completely brilliant, but no album is perfect. anyways, the tracks are quite more electro, lighter tracks than the ones from 'rated r', and 'cheers' is my favourite rihanna song. not just for the fact that it samples avril lavigne, but for the lyrics. the chorus. her voice sounds great on it.

01:

Diana Vickers - Songs From the Tainted Cherry Tree.
(Highlight Tracks - Once, The Boy Who Murdered Love, Notice, You'll Never Get to Heaven, Chasing You)
(Lowlight Tracks - N.U.M.B, Jumping Into Rivers)

- I'm sure everyone would have been able to predict this, but yes, my number 1 album of this year belongs to diana vickers. she was amazing on the x factor, with a stunning, captivating voice that works well on all the songs on the album. it's just great synthpop/indie-pop with her own stamp on it. even the two lowlight tracks are good in a way, they're just not as amazing as some others on there. it's a shame the album isn't selling quite well in the UK though. sad.gif

okay, back to the singles:

50:

Robyn - Dancing On My Own.

- "So far away, but still so near (the lights go on, the music dies)..."

49:

Alesha Dixon - Radio.

- "Anything to make you forget, 'cause my heart can't let go yet..."

48:

Example - Last Ones Standing.

- "Run free, only way to get rid of them, never gunna catch us..."

47:

Florence and the Machine - Dog Days Are Over.

- "Happiness, hit her, like a train on a track..."

46:

Leona Lewis - I Got You.

- "And if it don't feel right, you're not losing me by letting me know..."

45:

Paramore - Careful.

- "The truth never set me free, so I did it myself..."

44:

Nadine Coyle - Insatiable.

- "You had a look that made me wonder, here comes the rain, 'cause I hear thunder..."

43:

Swedish House Mafia ft. Pharell - One (Your Name).

- "You just kill me, could you at least do that?"

42:

Daisy Dares You ft. Chipmunk - Number One Enemy.

- "You're stuck in between what you want and what's the right thing to do..."

41:

Gabriella Cilmi - On a Mission.

- "There's only one thing on my mind, and I am running out of time..."

--

I loved 'dancing on my own' at the time, and I was happy to see it hit the top 10 in the uk. however after some time I started to get bored of it, plus there were a couple of songs on 'body talk part 1' that were slightly better. 'radio' is still great, and I was shocked to see it flop alongside the album, it's quality. 'last ones standing' is example's best single, which sadly didn't quite get as much recognition as 'kickstarts' and didn't quite smash the charts. 'dog days are over' really got me into florence. I never was so interested in her until I heard that for the first time, even if it was a re-release. 'I got you' is a great song by leona, but I would have rather have seen 'outta my head', 'naked' or 'lost then found' as a single. I loved 'careful' a lot before the it was released as a single, although 'brand new eyes' is full of gems that probably outclass it just slightly. 'insatiable' was great, unlike the album which was kinda average. 'one (your name)' was immense, and the last few seconds of the video gave me chills. I love it! 'number one enemy' kicked off daisy dares you's short career, and at the time she really reminded me of avril lavigne. obviously, she comes NO WAY NEAR as close too her. 'on a mission' was also brilliant, and the album which shortly followed it was also excellent. shame the uk weren't so good to her this era.

40:

Florence and the Machine - Cosmic Love.

- "A falling star fell from your heart, and landed in my eye..."

39:

Marina and the Diamonds - I Am Not a Robot.

- "You're vulnerable, you're vulnerable... you are not a robot..."

38:

Taio Cruz ft. Kesha - Dirty Picture.

- "I could dream of ways to see you, I could close my eyes to dream..."

37:

Girls Can't Catch - Echo.

- "Feels like I keep giving all to you, but I never get anything back..."

36:

Ellie Goulding - Guns and Horses.

- You move so fast, makes me feel lazy..."

35:

Gabriella Cilmi - Defender.

- "When the tables are turned, you'll be back by my side..."

34:

Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart.

- "Big gun, small drum - the beating of my chest..."

33:

Rihanna - Te Amo.

- "Watch me all night, I'm moving to the light because I understand..."

32:

Ellie Goulding - The Writer.

- "I try out a smile and I aim it at you, you must have missed it, you always do..."

31:

Scouting For Girls - This Ain't a Love Song.

- "The cruel words and the false accusations, the mean looks and the same old frustrations..."

--

at number 40 is florence's last single from her debut album, and her best, imo. it's quite liked on here too, shame the uk didn't really recognise it. after that, is marina and the diamonds with 'I am not a robot' which I disliked on first listen and found it really bland, but it grew on me as the album also did. 'dirty picture' is a great song, which suprisingy did quite well in the uk. the censored version is a bit of a WTF though. then, we have girls can't catch, with their amazing hit 'echo'. I really thought it would do well here, what with decent promotion and airplay, so it was a huge shock to see it flop. 'guns and horses' is also great, it's really ellie-by-numbers but that's no bad thing at all. then we have 'defender' which sadly didn't even get close to the top 40, despite being a very beautiful song. gabriella's voice is amazing, so it's awful to see how poorly she's performed chart-wise in the uk. 'my wicked heart' is the lowest charting song by diana vickers in this countdown. I was disappointed by it on first listen, but it did grow once the video had came out, then the x factor performance. sadly, that didn't do the best chart-wise either. 'te amo' is my second favourite single from the 'rater r' era from rihanna. it's so subtle, yet effective. the video was released a little too late though. 'the writer' is just a few positions above ellie's last charting song, and 'this ain't a love song' was a great song when it first came out and was happy/suprised it hit number 1 in the uk, which sadly left it to be a little overplayed. oh well, it's still nice.

30:

Scouting For Girls - Famous.

- "Forget Audrey Hepburn, forget Bette Davis, I wanna be known just for being famous..."

29:

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Bittersweet.

- "No substitute for real pleasure, you feed the need that lies in me..."

28:

Marina and the Diamonds - Hollywood.

- "Your mind is just like mine, all filled up with things benign..."

27:

Robyn - Hang With Me.

- "When you see me drift astray, outta touch and outta place, will you tell me to my face?"

26:

Miley Cyrus - Can't Be Tamed.

- "I'm not a mistake, I'm not a fake, it's set in my DNA..."

25:

The Saturdays ft. Flo Rida - Higher.

- "I am sick of playing games, and I'm not gon' say no names, but you and I know who to blame..."

24:

Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way.

- "Don't worry, 'cause tonight I got you - you can take a seat, do what you normally do..."

23:

B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams - Airplanes.

- "Back when I was rapping for the hell of it, but nowadays we're rapping to stay relevant..."

22:

Katy Perry - Firework.

- "Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed, so you could open one to lead you to the perfect road..."

21:

Kelis - Acapella.

- "'Till I stopped overthinking, decided to draw back the curtains, and I cleared all the cobwebs and began to let in the light..."

Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up.

- "I get tired, and upset, and I'm trying to care a little less..."

--

this song is brilliant, despite the overplay. it started off as an alright song when I heard it, until I heard it more and more. normally I'd get bored of a song when it becomes big, but not with this song. 'skinny genes' was also brilliant, but this song made me really interested in her. after buying her album, I think this is a highlight. still, I wish that she was more than a one hit wonder.

here we have my favourite song from the saturdays. it was released right at the start of the year, and was my first number 1 of the year. it's so instant, and was much better than the lead single of the 'wordshaker' era. the video is also great, as are all five of the girls. they were so nice when I met them. wub.gif

Pink - Raise Your Glass.

- "Can't stop coming in hot, I should be locked up right on the spot!"

--

pink always delivers something brilliant, and this is no different. while a lot like the rest of her older material, she can still make a brilliant, fun song, while also making more serious songs too. this was one of three new tracks on her greatest hits, and sadly, in the uk, this wasn't really a huge hit that I thought it'd be. oh well. I love it.

Owl City - Fireflies.

- "It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep, 'cause everything is never as it seems..."

here we have another early-year hit in my chart. this song was so boring on first listen, and I thought everyone was being ridiculous when they said it would hit number 1. I take that back, as within time I began to love it, especially the outro. his other single didn't follow the same trend though, that were boring and didn't grow on me at all.
