Always a quiet start on the Athletics calendar! The indoor championships should be a good start to it all though.

Laura Muir has been awarded a retrospective European Indoor bronze after Russian Yelena Korobkina was found guilty of doping offences.

Scottish athlete Muir, an Olympic 1500m silver medallist, finished fourth in the 3,000m at the 2015 event in Prague.

Belarusian Sviatlana Kudzelich has had her silver upgraded to gold with Dutch runner Maureen Koster taking silver.

A reallocated medal ceremony will be arranged and Muir, 30, said the news brings "mixed emotions".

She told Scottish Athletics: "Predominantly I feel very fortunate and grateful to receive the bronze medal, particularly when still competing at an elite level, as I am aware many athletes are not afforded that opportunity.

Former world indoor champion and drugs cheat Dwain Chambers is set to race in the 60m at the UK Indoor Championships at the age of 45.

Chambers qualified for February's event by running 6.81 seconds at a meet in Lee Valley earlier this year.

He was banned for doping in 2004 but returned to the sport in 2006 and won the 60m world indoor title in 2010.

The qualifying time for the World Indoor Championships, which take place in Glasgow in March, is 6.58s.

World Athletics is planning to introduce a new trial for measuring long jump take-offs.

A "take-off zone" is set to be used instead of the traditional wooden board, where a no-jump is called if the athlete's foot crosses the line.

The jump will be measured from where the athlete's front foot takes off to where they land in the pit.

"It will mean that every jump counts," World Athletics CEO Jon Ridgeon told the Anything But Footy podcast., external

"It adds to the jeopardy and the drama of the competition."

Not sure how that will go down - it certainly removes a lot of the jeopardy of making sure your foot is as close to the board as possible, which I'm not sure is a good thing! Plus there's nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned board.

Having a look online now and it certainly looks like people aren't too happy about it.

A reasonable display for Team GB in the World Indoors in the end - gold for Josh Kerr in the 3000m and Molly Caudery in the Pole Vault, and a silver for Jemma Reekie in the 800m.

Megan Keith admits "through gritted teeth" the track 10,000m could be the event that suits her best, despite finding it "pretty boring".

The 21-year-old from Inverness, a European Under-23 cross country and 5,000m gold medallist, clocked 30 minutes 36.84 in California this month.

That is inside the Olympic qualifying standard in her first 10,000m race and Keith is now open to a switch.

I guess whichever gets her the best chance of success! I wish I could describe long-distance running as 'boring' though, it would be more absolutely knackering for me!

British long jumper Jazmin Sawyers will miss this summer's Paris Olympics because of a ruptured Achilles.

The 29-year-old confirmed on Instagram on Thursday she had undergone a successful operation on her take-off leg.

Sawyers won her first major long jump title at the European Indoor Championships in 2023.

That's absolutely gut wretching for her.

Britain's Daryll Neita beat world 100m champion Sha'Carri Richardson as she took victory in the women's 200m at the Suzhou Diamond League.

Neita, 27, clocked 22.62 seconds in her season-opening outdoor individual race to cross the line clear of Anavia Battle, who finished in 22.99secs.

Battle's fellow American Richardson, who took world 200m bronze last year, was third in 23.11secs.

"I came here praying and hoping for the win," said Neita.

"To come out here and win it, in a decent time, in such a strong field, I feel really confident going forward."

Well done to her! Hopefully that'll give her confidence as things get going in the summer.
