No problems for Drake taking a 3rd week at #1 as "God's Plan" is coming close to all time high streams, so he's got next week locked up as well. Unless Post Malone gets really strong streams today, there'll be no competition for quite some time. Meanwhile Rudimental surpass "Feel The Love" making "These Days" their highest charting single to date at #2 (also matches "Rather Be"'s peak for Jess Glynne). Kendrick Lamar gets his 5th top 10 and SZA her 2nd with "All The Stars", which also becomes SZA's highest ever charter and could climb further next week. "IDGAF" also becomes Dua Lipa's 3rd top 10 hit. On the album chart, The Greatest Showman is up to 7 weeks meaning that we're still yet to have a new artist album at #1 this week. For once it's not blocking one though as the Black Panther soundtrack is in at #2, and if that's not enough soundtrack action for you, "Fifty Shades Freed" enters at #4, which is somewhat diminishing returns for the franchise, as the first two soundtracks hit #1. Also on diminishing returns is The Wombats, who score a 3rd top 5 album, but only enter at #5 after their last two albums hit #2 and charted for quite a while. Hockey Dad are on the way up as they hit the top 50 for the first time ever, all the way up at #6, which matches the highest chart position of Woolongong's other big export, Tumbleweed. Next week's chart may be very heavy on soundtracks again but maybe Ball Park Music can crack the top 5 with their 5th album.

Good to see Vance Joy in the top 50, hopefully "We're Going Home" can become a hit now the album is out!

Well at least Australia's Macklemore obsession is good for something with 'These Days' being able to make #2.

Australia's charts have a peculiar habit of getting locked in on one song while below it, there's a revolving door of #2 hits. I know it's happened a lot in the last few years, and it's continuing now as Drake's "God's Plan" logs a 4th week at #1, keeping back the next 5 songs which have all peaked at #2. The latest of which is "All The Stars", which thanks to the release of Black Panther, matches "HUMBLE." as Kendrick Lamar's highest charting lead artist single ("Bad Blood" hit #1). There might be another #2 hit to add to that pile courtesy of Post Malone, who is neck and neck with Drake this week, and is probably on his best chance this week to hit #1 as I expect his digital sales to slide. Meanwhile entering the top 10 is "Pray For Me", which is The Weeknd's 5th top 10 hit, and Kendrick Lamar's 6th. Showing the difference between digital & streaming, Delta Goodrem's latest single is in at #3 on digital tracks, and even with some decent streaming, is pushed all the way down to #32.

Not much happening on the album chart this week, The Greatest Showman showing no weakness, while the top 4 albums continue to consist of soundtracks & Sheeran. The latter will likely be exacerbated as on the night of writing, Ed Sheeran is commencing his record breaking Australian tour. In the nearer future though, competition for the top spot will come from Vance Joy hoping to hit #1 again with his 2nd album. Thanks to Dexton's comment above I can note that another local act, Ball Park Music have replicated The Wombats because for the 3rd album in a row, their latest release is the 2nd highest non-soundtrack album. This is their 4th top 10 album, having gotten as high as #2, missing the top spot by less than 100 copies. Fresh from hitting #1 in New Zealand, Marlon Williams gets his first top 10 album at #8.

In what surely must have been a close call for the top spot, inertia wins over with Drake getting a 5th week for "God's Plan". Post Malone put on quite a fight however, "Psycho" was #1 on Digital Tracks which is a first for him, and even reached #2 on streaming. He'll need a rebound to get back in the competition though however, as predicted, "Psycho" has dropped to #10 on iTunes and is stalling on Spotify, which means it may be able to hold #2 but it's not challenging #1 any time soon. Incidentally, at the time of writing this, "Perfect" is #1 combined on iTunes again, some 5 months after it first got to #1 on iTunes. Ed Sheeran is touring here currently so finally his latest album and singles might start shifting units.

For the first time this year, we've got a new album at #1, not even a soundtrack in fact. After what was surely another close battle, Vance Joy gets his 2nd #1 album this week, not even having to resort to include "Riptide" on the tracklisting. It is in fact a good week for several generations of triple j listeners. The next highest debut comes from the always excellent Sarah Blasko with her 6th album, and 5th top 10 album. It's in fact her equal highest peaking album ever, due to the fact that her most successful album was released on week after Michael Jackson died which cost it a #2 debut. She also deserves further commendation for helping keep the top 10 a pedo-free zone. In more pleasant news, Augie March also put out a new album which debuts at #20, having reached the height of their fame in 2006 when they topped the Hottest 100 with one of the greatest Australian songs of all time, "One Crowded Hour". Next week we'll have the surely thrilling battle of The Greatest Showman and Ed Sheeran, while the highest debuts look to be from Camp Cope and J-hope, who I suspect have very little fanbase crossover but they do rhyme at least.

You know it's a thrilling week when the top 5 is unchanged and the next track that's moving up is a Sheeran track that's literally been in the chart for a year now. But his tour is doing very big things in the country in these surrounding weeks and does very big things in the chart. Otherwise, we've got some new blood to the top 10, as Zedd & Marshmello's latest tracks move up. To do all the numbers, this is Zedd's 3rd top 10, Maren Morris's 1st, Grey's 2nd, Marshmello's 3rd and Anne-Marie's 3rd. The only other noteworthy news on the singles chart is that XXXTENTACION's latest two songs charted, which is a curiosity considering that "Jocelyn Flores" from last year was arbitrarily never allowed on the chart, even though it would have likely been a top 30 hit and possibly still charting now. On that topic of ARIA nonsense, "Ric Flair Drip" also debuts this week since the video came out and the song got a digital boost. The song should have charted a long time ago though.

Shout out to the freshness of the people who are just now deciding to purchase the highest selling album of the last year, which has been in the top 5 for an entire year, because they did so more than any other album this week. Bruno Mars has also been touring and has his most recent album back in the top 10. Otherwise the main news this week is that the highest new entry is actually very good. Camp Cope's 2nd album debuts at #6, moving on up from their debut album from 2016 that reached #36. Also a little lower down is a debut for BTS's j-hope, which comes somewhat close to matching the full group's top 10 entry from late last year.

Isn't Ed Sheeran on tour there at the moment, must explain all three of his albums being top ten and ÷ at #1.

Shape Of You back to #25 too drama.gif We need some ACR here (or perhaps not if ARIA are already making a mess of the chart with funny streaming rules).

The UK are sorry for giving you Calum Scott too.

Delta is definitely flopping, mostly because she hasn’t had X Factor to launch a new single on which she usually does to give it a huge boost into the top 20 and also because her new song is crap

Drake logs a 7th week at #1 which means "God's Plan" matches his only other #1 "One Dance for length of time spent at #1. It looks likely for an 8th too with not much competition on display. And meanwhile if you thought last week was a bit much, this week is peak Sheeran saturation with everything up even more, although admittedly it doesn't look as bad when you remember that "Perfect" still isn't as high as it is on the Hot 100. The highest new entry is Jessica Mauboy's upcoming Eurovision Song Contest entry "We Got Love", which just scrapes the top 50 despite being #2(!) on digital sales.

oh my god The Wiggles !!! actual faves of my 4 year old self, slay that they're still getting top 3 albums in Aus.

Lawd at the continued Ed Sheeran domination too, and the singles chart really is turning into Billboard levels of stagnation. Sad.

Exactly why I follow the UK charts now tongue.gif

For comparison, this is the latest airplay chart (15th-21st) which I 100% think should contribute to the official chart here.

I'm not sure I'd agree that airplay would speed the chart up, it's the main reason the US charts are so slow laugh.gif Either way it's hard to really justify a logical system. I think the airplay charts just mimic the sales chart (or vice versa) but leaving out anything remotely challenging.

Purgatory in the Australian charts continues for one more week as Drake gets an 8th week at #1 and Ed Sheeran finishes his Australian tour. The challengers continue to just come up short so Drake looks safe for a 9th week, but Post Malone is not out of the count just yet as he has a slight digital advantage. Also unfortunately I have to mention that "Perfect" now has the outright record for most weeks in the top 10 which was previously tied between Guns N' Roses, "November Rain", The Prodigy's "Breathe" and also "Shape Of You". The release of XXXTENTACION's new album also aids "SAD!"'s streaming in a big way to net him his first top 10 hit. Speaking of problematic news, Lil Dicky is on the chart and being more awful than usual. As a fascinating look in the shift from digital to streaming, Bad Wolves are #2 on digital tracks but can't make the top 50 overall.

XXXTENTACION also gets his first top 10 album only because "17" never got its streams counted for no reason. But to finally present news that people might like, Dua Lipa has been in the country and her self-titled album reaches the top 10 for the first time ever.
