Artwork Rating: 8/10 Extremely Good Such a good cover design! I love the night lit city theme, especially from the birds eye view too. Doesn't scream a summer cover though, probably one I would have saved until the Autumn/Winter release. But still really good. Disc 1 Favourite: Seal Kiss From A Rose Seal's vocals were unmistakable during the 90s, and this hit was one of his best hits, a beautifully written ballad and one of the best love songs of all time. A close second place favourite would be In The Summertime by Shaggy feat. Rayvon. Disc 2 Favourite: The Outhere Brothers Boom Boom Boom One old school dance anthem from my childhood. I remember how addictive this song was at the time, and it was so catchy and I loved the energy it had. Took many years to discover who the artist was, but when I heard their other material which was on par with this hit, I could see why they were so big in 1995! Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good There are some really great 90s sounds on this volume, one personal disappointment was the omission of the iconic 95 dance track Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop) by Scatman John and with that included would have bumped up my overall Rating to an 8 or 9 possibly. Andrew's Best 5 (as of March 2017) 1. The Outhere Brothers Boom Boom Boom 2. Livin' Joy Dreamer 3. Seal Kiss From A Rose 4. Shaggy feat. Rayvon In The Summertime 5. Pulp Common People Andrew's Worst 5 (as of March 2017) 1. Del Amitri Roll On Me 2. Jimmy Somerville Hurt So Good 3. Duran Duran feat. Melle Mel, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five White Lines (Don't Do It) 4. Soul II Soul Love Enuff 5. PJ & Duncan Stuck On U This post has been edited by awardinary: Mar 6 2017, 10:49 PM |

keep0 repeating myself here, disc 1 has the poptabulous stuff, disc 2 (bar a few good ones) has a heap of trashy/cheesy dancepop...

I went for Seal on the first disc and a toss up between Livin' Joy and Deuce on the second but I opted for the latter, good to see I wasn't the only one! Classic track from the UK's Eurovision national final (beaten by Love City Groove...also here!)

You pretty much summed up my thoughts on the cover, Awardinary! Very pleasing design but one that would feel far more fitting for a release that was later in the year. Rated it 8/10.
The Seal and Supergrass songs on disc 1 are great but I of course went for Oasis! It is so satisfying that their peaks improved with each single until hitting #1 for the first time with 'Some Might Say'. What an ANTHEM, the guitar and vocals feel so uplifting. I am instantly drawn by the utterance of the title immediately and it never falters in quality from then on. <3 Once again disc 2 seemed far weaker. I went for 'Dreamer' by Livin' Joy as my disc 2 favourite as it's rather euphoric. Not quite as good as 'Don't Stop Movin' but still solid. I am usually on board with most 90s dance classics! Gave it a 7/10 rating on the whole. Some great songs to take away from this one (yay at some particularly good Britpop and dance picks) but a lot of passable stuff on Disc 2 as well. |

Favourites: Never Met A Girl Like You Before (Edwyn from Orange Juice), Alright (We are young, we are free), Kiss From A Rose, Common People, Here Comes The Hotstepper, 3 Is Family [kind of a guilty pleasure], Some Might Say, Buddy Holly, Sour Times, Son Of A Gun, Keep Warm, Boom Boom Boom, Dreamer, This Is How We Do It, Swing Low Sweet Chariot (nice to see some spiritual music on a NOW album), I Need Your Lovin' (Everybodys Got To Learn Sometime) [nice breakbeat rework of The Korgis classic.]

So how to follow on from an absolute classic edition? Well, although this one is still very decent and contains some top 90s tracks it's a fair drop off from Now 30. Having said that it has a beautiful cover - LOVE that city night theme there, along with the very first Oasis #1 & my personal fave of the album, one of the best 90s dance songs ever in Dreamer really timeless anthem!
So overall I'll have to rank it as a 6/10. Some individual brilliance but a fair amount of filler & songs that I've forgotten how they go. And here are the results of the Now 31 Rate hosted in June 2015: 1. Livin' Joy - Dreamer / 9.69 2. Oasis - Some Might Say / 8.83 3. Pulp - Common People / 8.76 4. Kirsty MacColl - Days / 8.23 5. Supergrass - Alright / 8.16 6. Seal - Kiss From A Rose / 8.15 7. Weezer - Buddy Holly / 7.90 8. Portishead - Sour Times / 7.84 9. Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You / 7.83 10. JX - Son Of A Gun / 7.81 11. In Kamoze - Here Comes The Hotstepper / 7.75 12. Jam & Spoon - Right In The Night / 7.45 13. Baby D - I Need Your Loving / 7.41 14. Jinny - Keep Warm / 7.16 15. Whigfield - Think Of You / 7.00 16. Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It / 6.69 17. Duran Duran - White Lines / 6.66 18. Billie Rae Martin - Your Lovin' Arms / 6.60 19. The Outhere Brothers - Boom Boom Boom / 6.38 20. Del Amitri - Roll To Me / 6.18 21. MN8 - I've Got A Little Something For You / 6.16 22. Dana Dawson - 3 Is Family / 6.00 23. Junior Vasquez - Get Your Hands Off My Man / 4.37 33. East 17 - Hold My Body Tight / 4.18 34. Bobby Brown - Humpin' Around / 4.00 35. Shiva - Freedom / 3.88 36. Hyperlogic - Only Me / 3.87 37.
