Hi Guys
I've been working on this for a few years now, so I hope you enjoy it and find it interesting. Over the next few months I will be counting down the most successful singles / albums in UK chart history.
I've have went through each chart since the charts first began and allocated a point system, number 1 = 100 points and number 100 = 1, pretty simple really.
I'm pretty sure there will be errors especially regarding re-entries, re-releases and remixes but we shall see how it goes.
All interaction is appreciated also, what's your opinion on certain songs ? higher than you expected ? lower ?
I have countdowns for the -

THAT IS AWESOME. I go on about there not being enough big threads in the forum and BAM. HYPE
yeah, mega hyped for this, going to be very exciting!
Really hyped also!
Wow that sounds like an almighty task you've taken on there! Really excited for this countdown though
Tempted to start it now, wasn't expecting people to reply to be honest ha ha
Yes go ahead with this. You've definitely given an almighty task in doing this. I'm very intrigued by this.

If I'm honest I didn't really get this song and to be honest I still don't, its ok, I don't hate it but I'm generally surprised it only had 4 weeks in the top 10, for some reason it felt like it was around for ages.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Royals Also shocked it only had 4 weeks in the top 10!
(I'm presuming this is UK Singles first?)
Oh I thought Royals spent longer in the top 10 too! I'm not massive on it myself, pretty much her entire album is better imo.
Is this best selling or best rated by Buzzjack users?
I never really got Royals either. I didn't like her voice and I didn't like the song.
Also - this is quite an undertaking. I will try and comment on as many as possible.
Number 499 - Pat Boone - Friendly Persuasions
Peak - 3
Points - 1843
Weeks in the top 10 - 10 weeks
Weeks in the top 100 - 21 weeks

I have never heard this before but it seems harmless enough, its the kind of song I’m sure my grandparents would have loved. It was number 3 for 3 weeks, It was behind Guy Mitchell and Frankie Vaughan for all 3 weeks.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
This looks really exciting!!!
'Royals' is fairly good, I forgot just how long a chart run it had actually (spent 17 weeks top 40) but it did feel very big at the time. Strange that nothing she's done since has made much of a chart impact as she had so much hype around her for a few months.
Lol at random 50s songs coming in already. Looking forward to how well Frankie Laine 'I Believe' does (with its eighteen weeks at #1). I also remember 'Rock Around The Clock' having a massive chart run too.
Yasss Pat. Actually this should be really interesting as I'm pretty sure there are going to be tons of songs I've never listened to in here from before the mid 1970s at least, where my music knowledge gets very patchy.
I adore Lorde and Royals in general, it really stood out for me and I generally love the 'click' beat. I'd comfortably put it in my all time top 100 actually.
Number 498 - Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding - I need your love

Not my favourite Calvin Harris song, I just cant get with Ellie Goulding and her voice, it just irritates me, the video is super cute though but why couldn't we have more Calvin with his top off ha ha
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
I'm liking this project!
Any Apple Music subscribers getting Duke's – Need You (100%) playing when they try to play Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding – I Need Your Love?

Oh god, she is back again ha ha, not a fan of this at all, in my opinion she ruined this song.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Fairly insipid cover.
what a beauty of a song that was the turning point that really made me love her voice, and I guess that was the case for many people in the UK.
Ooh nice to see Calvin making a shock appearance.
Double Ellie *.* Love Your Song as well.

What is the name of the song in the background ? I always forget. I do love this song, its not amazing but it will do when I’m out and drunk.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
well I guess we don't look for the same things in Ellie Goulding.
I never loved 'Love Me Like You Do', though it's a solid 7/10 it's not something I go back to and she has many better songs in her discography.
-x-
you're thinking of Alice Deejay 'Better Off Alone', which is approx 1000 times better than 'Play Hard' - one of a few weak points in Guetta's career.
Play Hard is great! I really liked it when it came out in 2013 and it to this day remains as one of David's best in my personal opinion.
Love this so far, Dannyboy
Your Song
Absolutely hate Play Hard though!
I'm currently listening to Queen Idina and looking forward to her surely popping up later
I imagine it'll be a long while before we see Idina Menzel in this, what with her 70 weeks top 100 and 45 weeks top 40.
Number 495 - One Direction - Drag me down

Points - 1852
Weeks in the top 10 - 2 weeks

Terrible Top 10 run but it certainly did pick up and stick around for a while, its not one of favourite songs by them, I can take or leave it but probably more leave it, they have a lot better.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Excellent idea there, will be interesting to see what comes up.
Royals - It's ok but not really one I listen to much now, never really got Lorde either.
Friendly Persuasions - Not my kind of thing but probably good back in the day.
I Need Your Love - I love Ellie's voice and like I Need Your Love, personally I prefer their other collab Outside though.
Your Song - I love Elton John's original and nothing could come close in my opinion but I do think Ellie did a good job here.
Play Hard - I do like some of Guetta's songs but not a fan of this one. I do like the Alice Deejay original though!
I agree on Drag Me Down, not the best 1D song but certainly not the worst either. I just find 1D in general fairly average and overrated.
Love the two Ellie songs and Drag Me Down of course!!! My second favourite 1D song
Lorde just barely scraping in but thank goodness she did! I never liked 'Play Hard' either, that and 'Royals' are basically the worst and best of 2013 respectively.
Number 494 - Naughty Boy featuring Beyonce and Arrow Benjamin - Runnin

Love the video and I really should love this song but I just dont, I just like it, I just wish it was just Beyonce on the vocal.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
New chart?
Yeah agreed with most here about Drag Me Down, not their best but not their worst!
Absolutely adore Runnin I remember how much that song shocked me, I went into it having zero expectations and loved it so much!

This song is amazing, in fact its scary how much I love and listen to this song. She deserves to still be the bigger UK female star out there, up with Adele.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Love Crazy For You and Leona's version of Run is possibly my favourite cover version of all time, still absolutely stunning and gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it
Your Song is my all time favourite cover song!!
Great to see double Ellie!!
Wow crazy for you just scraping in !! Thought it would be higher because it's such a classic !
Run is good. I like it but I prefer Bleeding Love, which I assume may make an entry later in the countdown?
I really like Runnin and think Beyoncé sounds good on it, unlike most of her own recent songs.
Leona's cover of Run is amongst my all time favourite covers, stunning.
Love Crazy For You, classic Madonna. I like almost all Madonna's done except for her last few albums.
I'm gonna go with #96 for Bleeding Love.

Easily one of the biggest group of the 90s in America, not so much over here but this certainly is a classic ballad of that era, I remember the video being cheesy even back then, great song though. The “talking” bit always made be laugh to.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
What a great countdown! Thanks so much D
Royals - Love it or hate it, it's fair to say that it is now considered as a modern classic
Your Song - Never got in to it (The Ellie version that is)
I need your love - It was within my personal Top 20 of that year
Play Hard - Awful cover
Smoke gets in your eyes - Classic 10/10
Crazy for you - Amazing, song still gives me goosebumps
Run - A rare situation when an already great song, is covered and the result is even greater. When I think of the best covers, this always comes to my mind
So Macho - Serves is purpose, good pop song
Running - Great production, I feel it deserved to be bigger than it was
I'm really not a fan of 'End Of The Road', glad I wasn't around at the time as I imagine it would've really got annoying from being everywhere and having a massively long top 40 run for its time.
Lol at 'So Macho' being here. I've just looked up its chart run and it appears it spent a lot of time under the top 40 before smashing, must've got a re-release at some point.
Number 488 - Olly Murs featuring Flo Rida - Troublemaker

Hard to not like this guy, while not a huge fan, I appreciate he has had some great songs, this is an ok song spoilt by Flo Rida in my opinion.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Would this is such an ambitious project and I'm so excited for it all! Kudos to you Danny boy, this is gonna be a massive thread
As for what's come I like a fair few especially 'Crazy For You' wonder if there is more Madonna to come?
So Macho is a guilty pleasure and hate End Of The Road/Troublemaker!
Thought the latter of those would actually be a little higher!

I think one of a few people who preferred Bruno around this time and his first album. I still like him but ever since the release of the 2nd album / singles I'm all “meh” with his output, love this song. Oh yeah and Travie is also on the track ha ha
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
The three Madonna songs are hard to predict

Maybe its because it was everywhere but this song kinda annoys me these days, she has had so many songs better than this, I would even say its one of my least favourite songs by her.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
I quite enjoyed both Billionaire and Cali Gurls at the time. Billionaire hasn't aged very well though and Cali Gurls is a bit cheesy even for Katy Perry but still quite fun.

What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Absolutely hate both Billionaire/Beautiful- the former being one of my least favourite songs of all time
Know it's a pretty unpopular opinion but Cali Gurls is one of my favourite Karty Perry songs, absolutely adore it and it is such a fun jam to listen to
Number 484 - Akon - Right Now
Peak - 6

I'm sorry I have to inflict another Akon song on you guys, this is a little better than the last song but that's not really saying much.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
It did seem strange just how quickly Akon went out of relevance after him being so big for many years. Guess people just moved on to Flo Rida, Potbull and Jason Detulo.

What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Blank Space My favourite song yet! The song and video are absolutely incredible and is one of Taylor's strongest songs in every respect
Number 481 - Sigma featuring Paloma Faith - Changing
Peak - 1
Points - 1879
Weeks in the top 10 - 6 weeks

I must admit, before this song I really didn't know Paloma Faiths music, she may be a strange character but was a great distinct voice. I wasn't expecting to like this when I first heard it but I certainly do now.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
'Crazy For You' is a hugely underrated Madonna gem imo. I used to hear it in the car a lot when going to hospital as a child.
'Blank Space' is defo amongst Taylors best for me. Only 'Wildest Dreams' tops it for me from the album
'Changing' is good but both artists have done better imo!
Hoping to see more Ellie Goulding songs further down the line!

I'm hoping for a decent placing for Blue Monday and Take Me To Church.
I'm guessing from Ellie we will have

Love Young At Heart, bit of a classic really.
Blank Space is definitely my fav Taylor Swift song, better than Shake It Off which is actually ok.
Haven't heard the Kay Starr one yet, nor that Seekers one either.
Changing is really good, great that it gave Paloma a #1. I love all she has done so far, especially her last album.

What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Good countdown so far keep it up.
'Return of The Mack' is my anthem.
Finally a cracking song from the 90's!
That's the song I misheard the lyrics for and for years referred to the "You're Laughing Wayne" song!
Blank Space and Changing are both tunes.
Ayo being so high is delightful. Can't believe how dedicated you are to this, its great.

I genuinely thought this was going be so much higher in the chart, I was wrong. I loved the Spice Girls and their songs from the first 2 albums are generally faultless. While iconic, this isn't my favourite song by them, they had better in my opinion.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Wannabe is such an iconic, classic and terrific song; my favourite Spice Girls track
Adam Levine
Guess I'm a bit late...
Royals is a decent song
The Pat Boone song sounds alright
I Need Your Love is very average for me
Your Song – nah
Play Hard is a great tune
Drag me Down got in? I thought when it dropped from 1 to 8 in one week that would be the end of it
Runnin’ didn’t do anything for me
Not crazy for Crazy for You
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes sounds OK
Run is quite good
So Macho is great!
Not sure about End of the Road
Troublemaker is alright but Olly annoys me, especially after last year’s X Factor
Billionaire is average
California Gurls is dreadful
Beautiful sounds like every pop song
Same for Right Now
I’ll Never Find Another You is alright I guess
Dislike Blank Space with a passion
Changing is great
Young at Heart sounds fun
There isn’t much Rock & Roll in that Waltz
Ayo is a crime against music
Return of the Mack should be higher
The Wombles? Seriously?
A bit of Dean Martin is always good
The very fact that I remember Payphone means that it was stupidly overplayed
Wannabe is quite good
Looking forward to the rest!
Wannabe never did much for me.

Absolutely loving this countdown so far! Enjoying the fact that it's near impossible to guess which songs will be in the top 10, which adds the element of surprise. It's also great having such a breadth of genres and eras represented in the one countdown. Can't wait for the rest of it.

Well I think we all remember the days of glee taking up most of the positions in the charts, thankfully those days are over but this isn't a bad cover at all and it brought a classic to the attention of a new generation.

Don't Stop Believin' is by far my favourite Glee cover, incredible

I JUST CAME TO SAY HELLO
Great that this did so well after missing out on a Top 10 spot.

I find this song so emotional and for a lot of people this means more than just a song, this is a true classic and quite rightly so.
What your opinion personal opinion on this song or its position in the countdown ?
Wow at Wannabe and I Want to Hold Your Hand being that low and below Martin Solveig's Hello amongst others (tune <3) Not entirely surprising cos of the generally shorter chart runs back then, but still you wouldn't think two iconic songs would be this low!
I love Hello
I feel really bad for never taking the time to listen to this song in full
This is a great countdown so far - especially one of its size, kudos for that.
Wannabe in is pleasing to see, I guess several of the big hits of the turn of the century won't make an appearance or be that low because of the faster charts around then, I'll hope to see as many as possible in anyway.
I agree that sadly a lot of classic tracks wont make an appearance of if they do, it will be very low but that's the nature of the charts I suppose.
Songs in the 50s/60s are penalised due to the chart not being Top 100 but they also have the advantage due to the chart being smaller, long runs gets a lot more of the higher points.
Songs in the 70s/80s benefited due to a lot of songs climbing the charts back then
Songs in the late 90s saw high sales but a shorter chart run
Songs in the 2000 saw a huge downturn in chart runs and sales so they are probably the worse effected
Its only really the 2010s where a lot of songs had long chart runs.
so great to see Martin Solveig's 'Hello' get in this rundown, it was very unlucky to miss the top 10 but I guess that's what happens to chart growers

Couple of good oldies!
YNWA is great for obvious reasons even though I don't support Celtic or Liverpool. Roy Orbison! I had a convo about him yesterday with my dad, apparently he loved Faggots which are a local food staple near me.
Some good oldies and R94 <3

Nah, 'Who Let The Dogs Out' is a classic! I still have two Baha Men albums and as far as I know they're still together making music.
History is such a grower! I hated it a while back but I am a true fan of 1D now
Great idea this - and I'm pleased to see some songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s as I kinda thought it'd be dominated entirely by songs from the 50s and the current day as that's where the really long chart runs are.
who let the dogs out *___*
that was a massive song when I was a young child.
Hoping that Hey Ya can make it into this chart.
Dannyboy you're doing such a great job with this, and all the songs and videos I'm playing are putting me in a great mood too!
You should receive some kind of recognition for this effort, I think Buzzjack do awards for the best contributor, and right now for me that has to be you!
Also, when you reach 450 or 400 (whichever you choose) can you do a countdown post of the last 50/100 songs you posted so I can see them all on one page so to speak. Only if you have time of course.
Once again, thank you.
My Love and Written in the Stars are great, and Dean Martin is always good

I've always loved Give It To Me, even if it's pretty forgotten now. It's quite subtle but the production is brilliant, as are some of the lyrics.
I've just caught up with the thread since you're amendments.
Rudimental and Ed Sheeran combined twice last year, so I assume that Bloodstream is slightly higher.
Whatever happened with Atomic Kitten?
Labrinth & Emeli Sande's duet has to be one of my favourite duets of all time. Just brilliant British vocals.
The Saturdays deserve to feature too with Up which was one of their greatest hits. Are they due a comeback soon?
Definitely want to see more from Timbaland an Nelly Furtado in the charts currently.

I'm not a fan of that Bruno Mars song, in a way I'm glad he hasn't returned to the charts yet but Uptown Funk proved he can make a good song..
Up, red, heart skips a beat are all amazing
Fantastic to see Video Games here!! One of my favourite songs of all time and it is so stunningly beautiful

Great to see IBYLGOTD from Artics.
Pack Up reminded me at one time of Christina Aguilera's Camdyman for some reason.
love What's My Name.
Pack Up was awful. She had two more top 20 hits afterwards (one of which was actually good, but that's because it was a feature on a Disclosure song)
Dan, Big When I Was Little is amazing.
Oh no, that was the worst offender. At least it didn't get properly big like Pack Up.
Unfortunately it didn't no. Pack Up is also good

Hilltoppers "Only You" had a really weird chart run, it climbed incredibly slowly to eventually reach its peak of 3 in its 16th week, then plummeted the following week to 12 and stabilised for a couple of months..
A bit like Jade's 1993 hit "Don't Walk Away" which went 36-20-11-9-8-{7}-13-51, though I assume that drop was because of a deletion?
I'm also quite shocked to see Nickelback racked up 42 weeks for "How You Remind Me" though it was inescapable in 2002, much like another record they made that is bound to be very high up here and peaked at #2 in 2008!

I LOVED both Sweet Escape and Dynamite
The Power of Love is a classic too
Again, Summer is too generic, Calvin's first album was miles better than the new stuff he's producing
'The Sweet Escape' wasn't a #1, it peaked at #2

I think 5 at a time is much better.
However, constructive feedback, I would say change the thread title to something a bit clearer, I didn't really realise what this was, just caught up and love it.
Congratulations, this must have taken you ages!
I love dance with me tonight
As someone else said, there will be people like myself who religiously follow brilliant threads such as this one, but maybe don't comment much. Really enjoying it and will try and have more input!
