Agree - must have been a horrible time, plus launching an album with a ‘flop’ single was new territory for Kylie - she was until that point used to the lead singles being big hits. I think she got her first taste of a flop with word is out as that completely missing the top 10 was a complete shock at the time an in no way expected in the run up to its release, some kind of bliss did flop harder but i would say previous experience might have softened the blow. IP just hit a brick wall from the start it was in many ways doomed before it was ever released but its slowly but surely clawed its way back. |

I know 'Confide in Me' was a big defining single for her, but by the end of that era did it feel like her popularity was fizzling out a bit? And then of course it was quite a big gap between that and 'Some Kind of Bliss'?
I wasn't there for it so I'm curious to know, but I can see how her coming back in 1997 after a fairly big gap from the end of the KM94 era might have been a bit of a tumbleweed as she wasn't exactly hot property in the mid 90s. |

^^ Everything went wrong with IP from the offset, she got absolutely hammered in the press for teaming up with MSP for the lead and that kind of overtook the whole single campaign, then of course the album delays and name changes along with the follow up singles limping to #14.
The media wasn’t interested after the failure of SKOB and the entire project was doomed. |

Her popularity was in decline fairly rapidly after put yourself in my place and it never really recovered until she returned with spinning around. The press by no means were favourable about some kind of bliss and the album was seen as a complete failure leading to the Kylie is finished type stories. I do remember did it again video getting favorable press though which was something, by the time breathe came i don't anyone was really talking about Kylie which was sad to see. Where the wild roses grow did put Kylie back on the map though, people were talking about her again as the pairing was widely not expected so it was good to see her getting her name out there again.
I also remember one or 2 djs here on Irish radio station been very dismissive of Kylie during IP with one particular dj saying "Kylie wouldnt be able to manage to teach her granny how to suck eggs let alone release a hit"needless to say i emailed many times when Kylie returned with a multitude of hits. The ironic thing was he got axed from the radio station in the early 00's and was never heard of again and Kylie went onto world domination with the release of Fever. |

Bless her that she still references it wasn’t commercially successful all these years later - nice that she knows it’s loved by the fans though, I’m so pleased it got it’s time to shine briefly with the reissue and new peak.
