The song with the most points will win the title of the song Buzzjack thinks should have been a UK top 10 smash! biggrin.gif

Roses to win cheer.gif

Realistically I see it being either Into You, Hair or Hands To Myself.

#43. Nevada – The Mack [feat. Mark Morrison and Fetty Wap] [15 points]
60-44-23-17-14-17-19-20-28-25-26-... [11+ weeks]

Stockholm based DJ Nevada (ironically he does not come from Nevada, US) got together with everyone's favourite indecipherable rapper Fetty Wap and Mark Morrison for a 20th anniversary tropical house remix of 'Return Of The Mack'. Which was of course a UK hit, because we love lazy dance covers evidently. Buzzjack however weren't such fans, as the song becomes the least favourite non-top 10 hit of the year. It got 19 positive votes plus 4 negative votes to give a low score of 15, although it would have finished last anyway.

#42. The Stone Roses – All For One [23 points]
17-x [1 week]

The Stone Roses made their long-awaited comeback in 2016 with two songs released a month apart. The first of which made the top 20 for one week before proceeding to fall at a comical rate towards the bottom end of the top 200 on week two. It's not bad for what it is but it's not my type of music. Buzzjack seem to agree, with only three voters ranking it in their top 15.

#41. Viola Beach – Swings & Waterslides [25 points]
11-49-x [2 weeks]

Unfortunately all the members of Viola Beach plus their manager died in a car accident in Sweden, which led to this song reaching #11 in tribute. It's not at all a bad song and I'm glad it doesn't end up last here, although it was never going to do well in the competition as similarly to 'All For One' it fell off very quickly and didn't receive a lot of airplay. It's a nice enough indie song although I never loved it, and I imagine most of Buzzjack feel the same way.

#40. Jason Derulo – Get Ugly [27 points]
57-25-17-12-14-16-20-23-29-29-31-38-54-70-x [14 weeks]

Jason Derulo is often a hate figure on Buzzjack, and 'Get Ugly' was never going to do him any favours with it being the spiritual successor to hate chart #1 'Wiggle'. It doesn't do anything new really and aged fairly badly for me anyway. Jason hasn't had a top 40 hit single since, I'm sure he'll return soon enough but at least for the "haters" you get to have a bit of a break from him for now. angel.gif

#39. Drake – Controlla [30 points]
46-39-19-18-21-21-24-23-23-24-22-21-26-25-29-31-33-32-34-36-37-42-43-39-36-39-42-45-48-51-64-71-x(4)-56-64-x [34 weeks]

2016 really was the year of Drake, and whilst he was smashing the upper end of the chart with 'One Dance' and 'Too Good', he decided to take over the middle end of the chart as well with urban single 'Controlla', which really got on peoples nerves by refusing to leave the top 25 (back when that would get played in full, thank god they've finally changed the format, I honestly thought that'd never happen). For all its longevity though it only actually spent 2 weeks in the top 20. It's a decent enough tune anyway but Buzzjack generally found it boring, and I far preferred Drake's other hits smashing at the time.

Only loss there is Controlla but that was never going to do well.

#38. Blonde and Craig David – Nothing Like This [31 points]
17-19-20-15-15-15-19-16-18-27-29-36-43-50-73-x [15 weeks]

British house duo Blonde got their third top 20 hit teaming up with comeback king Craig David, spending as long in the top 20 as their previous two hits did combined. It's not nearly as good as 'All Cried Out' in my opinion but it doesn't deserve to be this low, it's a decent house tune and I like how they've incorporated Craig's UK garage sound into it as well.

#37. Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic and Ty Dolla $ign – Sucker For Pain [feat. X Ambassadors] [33 points]
65-28-16-13-13-11-14-15-15-18-21-23-26-34-38-46-50-69-x [18 weeks]

This became the second hit from the Suicide Squad soundtrack and also the first hit ever(?) to feature six credited artists, too many in my opinion. What is the point of Logic (who?), Ty Dolla $ign and X Ambassadors being on this? I was expecting this to do a lot worse but it narrowly avoids the bottom five here despite all the hate it got whilst it was charting.

#36. ZAYN and Taylor Swift – I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker) [35 points]
16-19-36-23-17-17-... [6+ weeks]

"Zaylor" teamed up for a lifeless boring song for the new Fifty Shades movie soundtrack. Which is a movie I plan on never seeing and not just because this song is in it. Thankfully it missed the top 10 but it seems to be having longevity now. I just hope Taylor's actual comeback single is a lot better than this, which it probably will be if Zayn isn't in it.

#35. The Weeknd – Party Monster [38 points]
33-17-32-46-59-x [5 weeks]

This is only here based on it being a promo single for his album which of course got huge first week streaming. Hopefully it doesn't get pushed as a commercial single because it sounds quite boring from what I've heard of it.

#34. Ellie Goulding – Army [39 points]
55-35-30-28-20-24-25-30-30-24-34-35-47-59-63-x [15 weeks]

Here's another boring song, glad we're getting these out of the way already. I'm glad 'Army' only made #20 anyway as it's not the type of single I want Ellie to be releasing ('Something In The Way You Move' was begging for a release, and probably would've done better). Ellie ballads generally seem to fall short and this can also be added to that list, as well as another one yet to feature in the countdown..

#33. G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha – Me, Myself & I [51 points]
70-51-44-40-35-27-25-17-13-15-18-19-21-17-23-26-29-37-39-39-43-53-57-67-66-67-73-x [27 weeks]

Following his appearance on 'You Don't Own Me' G'Eazy made his own chart appearance with this which seemed to be around for ages. He really is such an average rapper and I think this only got big because of Bebe's parts which really showcase her great voice. Anyway he seems to have suffered from The Britney Spears CurseTM as he hasn't had a hit since featuring on 'Make Me' (which wasn't a big hit in itself either), but don't worry we now have Machine Gun Kelly to replace him smile.gif

#32. TIEKS – Sunshine [feat. Dan Harkna] [57 points]
70-68-31-22-23-15-20-22-28-44-48-62-68-60-x [14 weeks]

TIEKS found himself having a hit with 'Sunshine' last summer after being featured on an advert and subsequently being picked up by MoS and getting an adorable sausage dog video. It's such a lush tune and I'm disappointed that it's so low here. TIEKS hasn't released a follow-up yet so for now he remains a one hit wonder, I can't imagine he'll get another hit anyway as this one just got very lucky.

#31. Charlie Puth – We Don't Talk Anymore [feat. Selena Gomez] [60 points]
63-61-49-30-30-28-26-23-23-14-14-21-27-27-29-33-34-41-44-55-66-74-x [22 weeks]

Well at least it was this that was the top 20 hit and not the dreadful 'One Call Away'. But still, I can't get into this. Charlie's voice remains annoying as ever and the production isn't lively enough.

#30. Bob Marley – Is This Love [feat. LVNDSCAPE and Bolier] [61 points]
75-60-43-43-43-42-39-20-16-24-24-24-38-43-52-54-59-x [17 weeks]

This finishes criminally low. sad.gif It's my favourite of the entire list and one that really deserved better in the chart, though I'm glad it made the top 20 eventually. It stalling just outside the top 40 for 4 weeks was painful to watch and would be even moreso had it just peaked there. Such a great remix that really brings out the best in Bob Marley's voice and puts it in a tropical house setting.

#29. Jonas Blue – By Your Side [feat. RAYE] [64 points]
21-19-20-21-15-15-17-21-26-20-25-26-... [12+ weeks]

After that great debut I thought this would easily become another top 10 hit for Jonas Blue. That sadly wasn't the case and it peaked at #15 which is a shame as I rate it to be just as good as his earlier two hits, if not better. Raye does a great vocal job of this too and she seems likely to be a big breakthrough in 2017 even if it's just on featured dance tracks (though I hope she does a Jess Glynne and gets some solo hits too). It's having good longevity at least anyway.

#28. Kygo – Stay [feat. Maty Noyes] [66 points]
53-73-x(3)-50-40-27-20-24-22-26-28-35-36-37-40-41-44-43-48-55-55-53-57-61-68-x [24 weeks]

Kygo continued his success into 2016, with 'Stay' becoming his third top 20 hit and his debut album entering in the top 5. 'Stay' was benefited a lot from streaming, which took this into the top 20 and kept it going in the chart long after it had fell on sales. He hasn't had a top 40 hit since (poor 'Raging') but I'm sure he'll be back soon enough.

#27. The 1975 – The Sound [68 points]
15-38-38-37-37-39-24-24-28-27-36-45-55-61-x [14 weeks]

After 'Love Me' last year dropped from the chart very quickly, this was followed up by 'The Sound' which became their highest peaking single yet. Unsurprisingly this is a lot more radio and chart friendly than most of their other songs but it doesn't feel like they really sold out, it's quite good. 'Chocolate' remains their highest regarded and biggest selling single however.

#26. Riton – Rinse & Repeat [feat. Kah-Lo] [69 points]
13-25-34-37-42-48-57-x [7 weeks]

Riton really lucked his way into a top 20 hit here by releasing it following it being on pre-order for months, one of the last songs to be released in this manner before all the record labels realised there's no point to download pre-orders now that streaming is dominant. Quite a good deep house tune anyway but not one of my absolute favourites.

#25. Shawn Mendes – Mercy [69 points (more votes)]
58-x(4)-74-47-44-42-40-15-15-17-17-20-21-22-26-32-25-29-36-40-... [19+ weeks]

Shawn managed to get his fourth top 20 hit with 'Mercy' following an X Factor performance... unfortunately. At least it's not as bad as 'Treat You Better' or 'Stitches', but it's still really bad. The song would actually place at #22 here if it weren't for the four sets of negative votes given, so I can be thankful for that at least.

#24. Ellie Goulding – Still Falling For You [73 points]
25-26-19-21-12-11-12-15-20-25-31-35-57-47-49-74-x [16 weeks]

Ellie Goulding decided to do yet another soundtrack single, but this time it fell short of the top 10. I'd like to think that was because it was a really weak effort from her. Because it was.

Let's finish this before I forget about it

#23. Lady Gaga – Perfect Illusion [74 points]
12-44-51-71-x [4 weeks]

Lady Gaga came back with a polarising lead 'Perfect Illusion', which alienated some of her fans such as myself but others were very impressed. Unfortunately for her it was a chart flop, spending just one week in the top 40. However she did get to perform at the Super Bowl in front of millions so it's fair to say her career is still going strong.

#22. Years & Years – Eyes Shut [74 points (more votes)]
60-45-74-x(15)-64-52-48-40-32-27-21-25-35-22-17-17-17-19-26-27-31-30-36-37-39-51-48-66-x [27 weeks]

This one did a long climb and just peaked in the top 20 at the start of the year, staying at its peak for three weeks and overall selling excellently for a #17 peaking single. It's still their latest hit to date unless you count the 'Desire' re-release, let's hope they come back sometime this year.

#21. P!nk – Just Like Fire [78 points]
32-51-61-55-48-36-22-19-20-28-32-32-39-57-52-61-66-70-x [18 weeks]

P!nk made a return with 'Just Like Fire' taken from the Alice soundtrack, and whilst another soundtrack single had a far better chart performance (JT) this eventually made its way into the top 20 proving P!nk's eternal relevance. Fans and Michael now await her proper return in 2017, which hopefully gives her a much better song than this.

#20. M.O – Who Do You Think Of? [79 points]
73-47-35-25-18-26-29-37-37-42-44-51-58-69-x [14 weeks]

M.O got lucky enough to reinvent themselves and get a top 20 hit last summer, over a year after their last #51 hit 'Preach' which is a fairly standard tropical pop song and not one I really got into, but it's good to see them finally getting some sort of success. The follow-up wasn't so lucky however and only reached #42.

#19. David Bowie – Heroes [80 points]
1977: 27-26-25-24-25-25-34-39-x [8 weeks]
2016: 12-30-x [2 weeks]

Following David Bowie's death it was this song that finally got the top 20 peak it deserved (what were the 1977 public thinking putting 23 songs above this?), although it would've gone top 10 if only download sales counted. It wasn't the only song of his to re-peak, his other classic 'Changes' entered the chart for the first time at #49, as well as two songs from his last studio album also making the top 75.

#18. Louisa Johnson – So Good [85 points]
20-13-13-14-18-18-24-25-18-15-27-36-41-50-60-... [15 weeks]

Following the success of 'Tears' Louisa released her lead solo single 'So Good' which instantly made the top 20 and spent 8 weeks there. Her second single is coming soon.

#17. Galantis and Hook N Sling – Love On Me [74 points]
47-44-37-27-18-16-18-19-23-31-40-49-61-42-46-48-52-59-54-... [19 weeks]

Galantis had their biggest hit yet with 'No Money' and proceeded that with 'Love On Me', which didn't do quite as well but nonetheless had a long run and top 20 peak. Their new single 'Rich Boy' is one to watch now and could appear in this thread next year.

#16. Olly Murs – You Don't Know Love [74 points (more votes)]
23-34-30-32-35-19-31-27-15-18-18-26-30-35-39-48-x(3)-62-70-x [18 weeks]

Olly has found it difficult to get big hits in the streaming era but his lead single 'You Don't Know Love' made its way into the top 20 and spent a while in the chart also leading him to a #1 album.

#15. Beyoncι – Hold Up [91 points]
17-11-24-28-26-40-52-51-62-64-59-x [11 weeks]

Beyoncι unexpectedly dropped an album leading to a lot of top 40 hits from streaming and download sales, though it was this one that performed the best and also became the lead UK single. It likely would have found itself in the top 10 if it was available on Spotify, and ultimately the decision to not put it there led to a short chart run for the single.

#14. Bastille – Good Grief [93 points]
25-28-29-25-24-15-13-18-20-20-24-27-20-23-31-40-41-55-62-69-69-x [21 weeks]

Bastille made a strong comeback with 'Good Grief', not big enough to give them a third top 10 hit but it became a long runner and also eventually a sizeable streaming hit. A #1 album came off the back of it but follow-ups struggled, although that's an expected side effect of sophomore syndrome.
