It's been a long time since the Sugababes actually released an album (5 bloody years!!!) and the stuff they're best known for is now a decade or more old. Which makes me feel like I should be purchasing a funeral plot in the near future.
So we've decided to do a series of threads to help newer and casual fans discover some of the hidden gems from the girls back catalogue! Over the next few months we'll delve into all 7 albums, the solo material for each girl (even the unreleased stuff) and look at the B-Sides, Live Covers and general rarities. Beginning with 2.0 because it's the highest selling and what they're most famous for we'll go through this line up in chronological order which means Angels With Dirty Faces is up first! Aside from being a 1938 gangsta movie, Angels (aka AWDF) was the Sugababes first commercially successful album while still keeping the critical acclaim of the bands debut. Angels charted at #2 on release in the UK and stayed in the top 3 a further week on it's way to selling over 900,000 copies. Tracklisting: 01 - Freak Like Me 02 - Blue 03 - Round Round 04 - Stronger 05 - Supernatural 06 - Angels With Dirty Faces 07 - Virgin Sexy 08 - Shape 09 - Just Don't Need This 10 - No Man No Cry 11 - Switch 12 - More Than A Million Miles 13 - Breathe Easy (Acoustic Mix) 14 - Round Round (Alternate Version) Hopefully most of you would have heard the singles (Freak, Round Round, Stronger/AWDF & Shape) so the aim here is to get y'all into the rest of the album. To that effect please find for your listening pleasure the rest of Angels With Dirty Faces below: Track #2 - BLUE Track #5 - SUPERNATURAL Track #7 - VIRGIN SEXY Track #9 - JUST DON'T NEED THIS Track #10 - NO MAN NO CRY Track #11 - SWITCH Track #12 - MORE THAN A MILLION MILES Track #13 - BREATHE EASY (ACOUSTIC) Thankfully track 14 isn't on Youtube that I can find. (Not that I'm trying hard, it's abysmal) |

I'm jealous I didn't get to spend my day doing the same. As for AWDF the final verse thing by Mutya in 'Just Don't Need This' I LOVE the 'I go, wherever I know that you won't go' etc |

I'm such a traitor 'cause I'm listening to GA at the mo. Might put this on in a minute.
This album is so good and it's my second favorite Sugababes album now. (I also really like the Tricky album of the same name.) This post has been edited by Atonement: 11th January 2015, 09:10 PM |

Thankfully track 14 isn't on Youtube that I can find. (Not that I'm trying hard, it's abysmal) lol it's not THAT awful. + it's interesting to hear an extended version of Heidi's middle 8. If I had to rank the songs on the album from worst to best: SWITCH BREATHE EASY NO MAN, NO CRY FREAK LIKE ME (really gone off of this lately, not that it's bad by any means but I've heard it way too much) STRONGER SUPERNATURAL MORE THAN A MILLION MILES BLUE VIRGIN SEXY SHAPE ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES ROUND ROUND JUST DON'T NEED THIS |

As for AWDF the final verse thing by Mutya in 'Just Don't Need This' I LOVE the 'I go, wherever I know that you won't go' etc I know right! I'm making the most of my free weekends before I start back at my courses by doing absolutely f*** all. YES! It's just marvellous and so well done. The best one for me is More Than A Million Miles and the Keisha 'rap' "tell me what happened to our quality time" |

I'd probably rank the album:
Freak Like Me/Round Round Switch Stronger Supernatural Just Don't Need This Blue More Than A Million Miles No Man No Cry Virgin Sexy --- Angels With Dirty Faces Breathe Easy (Acoustic Mix) --- Round Round (Alternate Version) ---- *Death* ---- Shape |

'Shape' is wonderful especially the single version. The one thing we will probably never agree on! For me there are some wonderful vocals on it, the verses are completely free from flaw and the way they are delivered is superb. Mutya's bridge 'You can easily gamble your life away, second after second...' it's truly so far beyond spectacular its unreal. However. The chorus is just so far beyond dull it kills the song for me. Then there's the male backing vocals no tyvm. They are too loud and don't blend that well with the girls I don't think. |
