My chart is now almost 9 years old and three same-era number ones is incredibly rare, even two is quite rare these days. A full list of two or more:
4: Little Boots: 'Meddle' (2008), 'New In Town' [remix], 'Remedy', 'Earthquake' (2009) 3: The Killers: 'Mr Brightside', 'All These Things That I've Done' (2004), 'Somebody Told Me' (2005) 2: Basement Jaxx: 'Good Luck', 'Plug It In' (2004) Green Day: 'American Idiot', 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' (2004) Chemical Brothers: 'Galvanize', 'The Boxer' (2005) *The Futureheads: 'Hounds of Love', 'Area' (2005) Stereophonics: 'Dakota', 'Superman' (2005) Gorillaz: 'Feel Good Inc.', 'Dare' (2005) Maximo Park: 'Going Missing', 'Apply Some Pressure' (2005) Arcade Fire: 'Rebellion (Lies)', 'Wake Up' (2005) Arctic Monkeys: 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' (2005), 'When The Sun Goes Down' (2006) Guillemots: 'Trains To Brazil' (2006), 'Annie, Let's Not Wait' (2007) LCD Soundsystem 'North American Scum', 'Someone Great' (2007) The Shins: 'Australia', 'Turn On Me' (2007) Interpol 'The Heinrich Maneuver', 'No I In Threesome' (2007) Elbow: 'One Day Like This', 'The Bones of You' (2008) *The Futureheads 'Walking Backwards', 'I Wouldn't Be Like This If You Were Here' (2008) Animal Collective: 'My Girls', 'Summertime Clothes' (2009) *The Pains of Being Pure at Heart 'Say No To Love' (2010), 'Heart In Your Heartbreak' (2011) The Maccabees 'Pelican', 'Went Away' (2012) *One single was standalone and didn't feature on an album. Fixers have also had three number ones in the past two years that are all on the same album, but aren't from the same era at all. |

hmmm, the only way I fit in with multiple number ones 3 or over from the timezone featured here would be Gaga (4), Kylie (about 10-15), madonna (about 20-25 or so), Scissor Sisters (5), Texas (about 10 plus a few Sharleen Spiteri). Add in Coldplay (6 or 7), Robbie (10 or so) and a few others like Gwen Stefani, Timbaland, BEP's.
As I'm extremely old by buzzjack standards, I'm expecting a telegram from the Queen (that'll be Madonna), I started charting in 1968, Hey Jude was my First Number One by a freshfaced boyband called The Beatles, followed by a pop princess called Mary Hopkin. I havent totalled up, but Abba, Beatles, Pet Shop Boys all on about 35-45 Number Ones, George M/Wham, Michael jackson, Bee Gees, ELO are all on 20-something or thereabouts, among many others a bit lower down. |

No of #1s / Artist / [Wks at #1] 7 - Arctic Monkeys [16] 5 - Elbow [11] 4 - Yeah Yeah Yeahs [11] 3 - Bloc Party [10] 3 - The Killers [10] 3 - Snow Patrol [10] 3 - Doves [7] 3 - Radiohead [7] 3 - Röyksopp [7] 3 - Friendly Fires [6] 3 - Interpol [6] 3 - Muse [4] These are the ONLY acts to get more than 2 numbers 1s in 11 years of charts! In the past year both Röyksopp and Radiohead got their fourth number 1s, taking them to joint third on the list with Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Florence + The Machine, Yeasayer and Foals also got a third number 1 last year taking them onto the list for the first time. Nobody has matched Friendly Fires' 3 consecutive number 1s in just 8 months though (and I don't think ever will !) Revised list: 7 - Arctic Monkeys [16] 5 - Elbow [11] 4 - Yeah Yeah Yeahs [11] 4 - Radiohead [9] 4 - Röyksopp [8] 3 - Bloc Party [10] 3 - The Killers [10] 3 - Snow Patrol [10] 3 - Foals [9] 3 - Yeasayer [9] 3 - Florence + The Machine [8] 3 - Doves [7] 3 - Friendly Fires [6] 3 - Interpol [6] 3 - Muse [4] This post has been edited by Doctor Blind: 1st February 2013, 03:09 PM |
