Emma Bunton 'quits music'
Monday, March 19 2007, 10:12 GMT

By Nick Levine

Former Spice Girl Emma Bunton has reportedly quit the music industry because of disappointing album sales.

The 31-year-old's recent Life In Mono album peaked at number 65 on the UK album chart in December and last month's 'All I Need To Know' single failed to crack the top 40.

Bunton, who is pregnant with her first child, reportedly came to a joint decision with her record label Universal.

A source told The People: "(Emma) is looking on the bright side and happy to concentrate on motherhood."

dont know about anyone else but im gutted, the stupid british record buying public annoy me so much sometimes, but i wish her every success for the future

cry.gif by music scene she will only mean her solo career, she needs another album like her original but i could see this coming anyway, the solo spices need to do some spice girl stuff to help make their solo careers successful once again.

I don't think it's the end of her music career, I'm sure she'll be back, she can spend the next year or so devoting herself to little baby Bunton can't she? wub.gif

Well this news doesnt surprise me. Its a real shame as her first two albums were much better and more commercial friendly than her last one. She would have been better releasing the bimbo jones edit of "All I need to know" as that has alot more punch in it. I hope she does a greatest hits with new tracks on it.

Mel C is now the only member of spice girls to continue recording new material. If you look at the patterns of other groups who have made the transition to solo recording artists, usually only one of the group members makes it big. In blue it was Simon Webbe (albeit that only lasted for 1 album), Ronan Keating & Robbie Williams are other examples.

A joint decision!!!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

DROPPED...just like everyone else who 'parts company' with their label.

She's not a great singer, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. If you can't even take a CIN single to number one then your career is well and truly dead.

They ar not past it, they aren't exactly old, and i wouldn't say mel c is the only one to make it! Her last album flopped on its arse here but did well in europe and her new single i want candy is the worst by a solo spice.

Just wondering ... have you HEARD the Life In Mono album?

I'm pretty sure everyone who has can assure you that her career should NOT be dead ... it's mostly the record companies fault IMO, both songs released were the wrong ones ... Hopefully she'll have fun with the baby and come back!

I bought Life in mono and its not very good to be honest. I'm not surprised she has been dropped. Her first two albums were miles better.

No, I haven't heard the Life in Mono album. That doesn't mean I don't know how strong her voice is...she hasn't exactly turned into an award-winning diva since the days of the Spice Girls.

Sorry, but I like to see people fail when they have little right to be there in the first place. It's more the record company that I'm laughing at here - they've invested a lot of money on a product that doesn't sell any more cos they keep looking for quick wins that can be given massive exposure e.g. appearing on the lottery or fronting the CIN single rather than promoting new and original acts. Emma can laugh it off with the millions she should still have from the Spice Girls. She beat the system once with them, the game's up now.
