What are some of the unluckiest National Final entries for you?
I'm talking about those who were unfortunate to lose out to songs that were always going to do better, but probably would have won most other years either side of their year instead? No, I'm not talking about an Asanda losing out to SuRie moment. That was just a poor public decision. Here's an example of what I'm talking about (imo) Danny Saucedo - Amazing. Surely would have won a lot of the other years, but was very unfortunate to be up against the behemoth of Loreen - Euphoria! |

Tone Damli - Butterflies is the obvious one for me. Came second to Rybak at MGP (tho I maintain is far better) which obviously went on to become an absolutely massive ESC winner. Tough go for Tone

Oooh great topic here! Markus Riva comes to mind but for all the wrong reasons
 Aistė Pilvelytė would be a great representative for Lithuania in 2017 but her later entries have gone downhill quickly.Then, there is Dotter

If Malena had been on second and Caroline had been on closer to the end then I expect the result would have swapped around - producer decided draws are, while entertaining, basically unfair. Admittedly my pick for the song robbed by Euphoria is not Amazing but instead is the utterly flawless Why Am I Crying. Like imagine singing a break up anthem with your ex in the front row and absolutely f***ing NAILING it |

Not that I don't enjoy that we got Malena into Eurovision, for the niche Greta's mum reference that lives on, and the fact that it's a huge banger, but the track lost quite a lot of its impact at Eurovision due to the live backing vocals being unable to create the epic choral effect on the studio version. I think Caroline Af Ugglas would have been a good risk for Sweden and restored them to the top 10 in that fallow 2007-2010 period.
Melodifestivalen 2009 and 2012 were  This year it feels like they wanted a Loreen win so much they avoided putting anything remotely competitive in its way (I guess Air might have won on another year). |

Still convinced that Dear Jon would have swept the board in 1995 with ‘One Gift Of Love’ - instead it came 3rd in the National final behind Love City Groove and Deuce

Deuce was one of my favourite 90s songs though. Not that it would have done much better than Love City Groove, as Eurodance wasn't exactly in at with the juries at the time. I feel like It's You by The Revelations was a bit of a missed opportunity for us in 2008, they were a little like The Pipettes and were riding the throwback 60s soul pop wave that was all over the charts at the time. Why on earth we picked Andy Abraham I have no idea. And of course, as much as I love them, Cyndi clearly would have done better than Scooch in Helsinki. Maybe not as well as people think though, look what happened to Norway 2010, which was essentially the same song. |

What a year I know I would have been happy with anything from that final winning apart from Sofia's Alla and HEAT's 1000 Miles, and even those were fine.Nine absolutely fantastic tracks in that final, I could only dream for that quality again. |

2:34 to the end is the greatest 30 seconds of TV ever. The out of tune singing along, 'oy oy oy oy oy', 'herrrrregud', the twirl at the end after the song has finished. Iconic.
