BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ The next big pop star?

Posted by: cqmerqn 29th May 2017, 10:50 PM

We've recently had Zara Larsson become a big name in pop music, but who is next? I've got a feeling it will be Julia Michaels. Seems to be a lot of hype around her atm.

Who are you predicting?

Posted by: awardinary 29th May 2017, 10:53 PM

Male: Troye Sivan
Female: Emily Warren

Posted by: Liаm 29th May 2017, 11:02 PM

Camila Cabello. I feel like she could go either way but I'd say she has the best chance out of who we currently have. She has a voice where you know it's her straight away and I think they're very keen to push her. I'd like to say Julia Michaels too but Issues kind of feels like a one hit wonder sort of song, she does have impeccable pop song writing abilities though and a unique voice, it will depend on the next single (Friday *.*) but you can say that about Camila and most candidates for this too laugh.gif I'd maybe say Sigrid too, she has EVERYTHING but I think Don't Kill My Vibe probably would have been bigger by now if she was going to be the next big thing :/

Posted by: awardinary 29th May 2017, 11:08 PM

Oh yeah Sigrid, I'd choose her instead.

ALESSIA CARA

Agreed with Camila, definitely see her elevating herself to at least a Selena Gomez level of fame!

I do think Hailee is another Starving (and a more regular release schedule that doesn't consist of year-long gaps) away from being capable of that sort of level too.

On the other hand, need I remind anyone who won the X Factor less than 6 months ago and is due a single inevitably soon...

Posted by: Ryan. 29th May 2017, 11:23 PM

oh yes Saara Aalto coming for slayage! heart.gif

Posted by: Liаm 29th May 2017, 11:28 PM

I'll eat my hat if Matt Terry does any better than Louisa laugh.gif Saara I think has a good chance, she is unique enough to stand out but not too bat shit crazy that she'll alienate the public and be too weird for a hit. She has a knockout voice and amazing presence plus she has Sia on board so she's bound to have a killer pop song up her sleeve.

Posted by: Cody S. Berry 29th May 2017, 11:30 PM

idk why but I can see Saara Alto collaborating with Clean Bandit

Posted by: awardinary 29th May 2017, 11:31 PM

Matt Terry feat Honey G tbh.

Austin Mahone!

Enough said!

Funnily enough I remember people saying that about 3 years ago laugh.gif

Oh I remember Mmm Yeah.

Posted by: danG 30th May 2017, 09:26 AM

for Julia Michaels it really depends on the next single, I think she could be big though as she's clearly got a talent for songwriting.

I'd have said Camila Cabello also but 'Crying In The Club' doesn't seem to be doing quite as well as I expected so far.

As for male pop stars, Harry Styles and Liam Payne are already off to a great start.

Cabello reminds me so much of Nicole Scherzinger and can see her having some of the success Scherzinger had!

They've been trying to make him happen for years now
It's not gonna happen

RAYE for me. Can see Jorja Smith crossing over too in a low-key way.

Posted by: awardinary 30th May 2017, 11:01 AM

Halsey is another one with a chance to break into the UK this year.

Posted by: cqmerqn 30th May 2017, 11:48 AM

RAYE is a good shout I guess!

Posted by: Quavo (ft Quavo) 30th May 2017, 12:00 PM

Can see RAYE having a low top 20 hit with The Line and then relying on shit features after that tbh

Even that is a bit too optimistic for her now I think. Shame her debut single didn't deliver. cry.gif

Posted by: danG 30th May 2017, 12:22 PM

The Line doesn't look likely to be a top 40 based on its current performance, it'll struggle to even reach top 100.

Posted by: Jack 30th May 2017, 02:04 PM

Anne-Marie is the most likely surely?

Agreed, she's in a really good spot to be huge right now! I hope she is, the run of Alarm/Rockabye/Ciao Adios has been flawless.

RAYE could indeed deliver, The Line still has plenty of time in all fairness!

Posted by: Liаm 30th May 2017, 02:37 PM

Oh yeah Anne-Marie too! I'm not sure about Raye doing that well, I think she might be like a Bebe Rexha figure who's had a couple of big features but never quite gets that right song for herself. You can't discount The Line yet though, it's been out like 2 weeks and songs can take like 2 or 3 months even to take off nowadays drama.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn 30th May 2017, 05:07 PM

I'm sure R1 and Spotify will support RAYE.

Posted by: awardinary 30th May 2017, 10:55 PM

One other female name I want to throw into the mix — Maggie Lindemann.

Current single doing very well with the help of Cheat Codes and Cade.

Thoughts on future success...?

Posted by: cqmerqn 25th November 2017, 08:46 PM

So it ended up being Dua Lipa and Camila Cabello!

RAYE is still going to be big.

Posted by: Jack 26th November 2017, 01:28 AM

Lol at me thinking Anne-Marie was going to be big.

I suppose she can still turn it around in the new year, 'Heavy' was just such a misfire of a follow up single.

Posted by: Dexton 26th November 2017, 02:15 AM

Dua Lipa managed to pull a #1 out of the bag after a super floppy single (Lost In Your Light) so there’s no reason why Anne-Marie can’t do something similar after a low-top 40 hit smile.gif
