I'm amazed that Jump spent only 8 weeks in the UK chart when it had that many weeks at #1 in the US! I know that was typical for 1992 but would have expected a longer-than-average run for that song.

98. DIANA VICKERS (279,000) 3 HITS

Rising to fame at the age of 17 on the X Factor back in 2008, Vickers was mentored by Cheryl Cole and finished the competition in 4th place behind Alexandra Burke, JLS, and Eoghan Quigg. Vickers went into the West end before returning to pop music with the 2010 chart topper “Once” co-penned by Cathy Dennis, Subsequent hits didn’t exactly light up the charts but she is one of only 5 X Factor products on this list.

97. ONE TRUE VOICE (280,000) 2 HITS

Here’s another reality lot that were (in the main) teenagers when success came calling. Losers in the race for Christmas No 1 for 2002, some might say they were doomed from the start having Pete Waterman as their manager and following a boyband route that was already out of date (covering Bee Gees song very big in the mid-late 90s but not in 2002). Anyway the press had a field day with the boys and when second single “Shakespeare’s Way With Words” (which incidentally is co-written by former SAW act Rick Astley) bombed at No 10 the boys called it a day without even 300,000 singles sold to their name.

96. ADELE (300,000) 3 HITS

The title of her first album gives the game away but Adele was a teenage when her first three singles were released with debut hit “Chasing Pavements” making up the great majority of sales she amassed before entering her 20s. Don’t really know what happened to her after this.....................

They ultimately emerged victorious though with Daniel Pearce's #1 of 2014 outselling Cheryl's biggrin.gif

The person you *may* be thinking of turned 20 later on in 1978, so will not appear here.

Nope, not that one. biggrin.gif

It seems like it should be obvious Adele would appear here given the name of her debut album but she's certainly not one that came to mind! I had a listen to 19 again and it's gorgeous; really nice stripped back sound and I'm happy so many people checked out the album when 21 hit the charts. 'Chasing Pavements' remains a big favourite. wub.gif

I really liked Diana's first 3 singles, shame she didn't have much success in the end. sad.gif

There's another huge 00s- present act still to come I think! Incredible that Adele's single sales swelled so much with the release of 21 and its singles!

95. SHAMPOO (302,000) 6 HITS

Briefly the future of girlbands in 1994 these two girls were quick to “sell out”, in some people’s opinion, to commercialism and forget their “Riot Grrrl” roots for spreads in “Smash Hits”. Good job they did or they wouldn’t be on this list, their main hit “Trouble” narrowly missed out on the top 10 but their abrasive approach to pop was in some ways a pre-cursor to girl power which would catapult the Spice Girls to international fame a few years later.

94. BAD BOYS INC (306,000) 6 HITS

Always in the boyband c-list this lot scored 6 top 30 hits in 1993 and 94 in the heyday of boybands. They were put together by producer Ian Levine (producer of much of the early Take That) and were the first band to appear on “The National Lottery live” TV show (who knew?). The only one to go on to anything of note is Ally Begg who is still a sports presenter.

93. STACY LATTISAW (306,000) 2 HITS

Plucked from obscurity by Narada Michael Walden at just 13 he transformed Lattisaw into a pop star with the hit “Jump To The Beat” which made No 3 in 1980 and was of course later covered by Dannii Minogue in 1991 . The hits dried up quite quickly though her 1982 track “Attack Of The Name Game” was sampled extensively on Mariah Carey’s “Heartbreaker” in 1999.

I thought Stacy would have just missed out, so it's good to see her here. She was known around US soul music circles before Narada "plucked her from obscurity" - apparently "Ring My Bell" was written specifically for her when she was just 11 but that never happened and Anita Ward went on to have a number one with it.

Love Diana Vickers - Once when it came out, but weren't that keen on the follow ups The Boy Who Murdered Love and the terrible My Wicked Heart. But I did enjoy the singles from her 2nd album, such a shame they weren't successful.

And have fond memories of Shampoo when I was a kid and remember hearing Trouble all the time and thought that they were huge, but turns out I was wrong, and plus loved their other song "Girl Power", which was so fun and catchy.

One True Voice, I did actually like their first song both Sacred Trust and found After You're Gone, much better, then I knew they would be over after Shakesphere's Way With Words, such a terrible song, but camp in a way, and was so surprised when it reached #10 on the UK charts, I was expecting it to peak lower end of the top 40 or something, but it took full advantage of the low sales era at the time, plus I've noticed that they looked as if they knew that it was over for them, judging by that music video, I mean come on, what idiot thought that would have been a good comeback single for them.

92. WILLOW SMITH (306,000) 1 HIT

Oh remember this one? They’re just getting younger on this thread, Smith was a mere 10 years old when “Whip My Hair” made its debut at No 2 to the chagrin of many members of this forum though incredibly it was held off the top by an even more annoying record (Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time (Dirty Bit)”. She’s not graced the top 75 since thankfully though as a 14 year old she can still add to this total for a long time- be warned.
