Ugh Sampha is so Mercury winner by numbers, good album but forgotten in a year, I would've even chosen Ed Sheeran above him.

the Mercury Prize would lose all its credibility if Ed won so I'm glad that didn't happen. Can't say I'm fussed about Sampha though.

I meant that ANYTHING would've been less predictable than Sampha. Even The xx. I never hoped the victory for Ed myself.

Sampha is one of the albums on the list that I haven't heard. I've heard a few of his singles but I find them all a bit boring to be completely honest sad.gif

I wanted alt-j to win really but I guess they have their win already a few years back. Stormzy, Blossoms and The xx would've been great too, they're all albums I've loved over the last year wub.gif

I'm kinda surprised that Stormzy didn't win but I think he's already achieved the success that others hadn't at this point in his career. Sampha's album was excellent the few times I heard it and the critics loved it so I wasn't surprised to see him win.

It's the first time in a few years that the album from the shortlist I've listened to and enjoyed the most has won. It really is wonderful - fully deserved, predictable or not. Though I always thought Kate Tempest would win.
