Voting has now closed, so let's take a look at which 15 songs have made it through to the final 75. We'll start with 2009:
In fifth is a group who really fit the definition of 'one hit wonder'. Their debut single hit it big, spending 6 weeks in the top 40. The follow-up reached #73 and their third single completely bombed. The album was then cancelled and they were never to be seen again, except for frequent shoppers of Esmee Denters' yoghurt shop for failed popstars™. (poor Esmee doesn't make the top 5 here). This is a great song though and deserves a spot here. Now a song that will definitely be remembered as an 00s indie classic, but barely anyone will actually remember the band behind it, as everything else they did was a flop. It seems wrong to count MGMT as a one-hit wonder as 'Time To Pretend' seemed very big too, but that only charted at #35(!!). This is definitely their biggest hit and their best song imo. This band would fit very well in the One Year Wonders thread actually as their follow up album produced no hit singles. The Pussycat Dolls were such a floppy girlband, this was their only hit surprisingly (well actually it's here because of producer A.R. Rahman). Let's not forget the iconic (feat. Now we go to 2010 and see which 5 songs qualified:
Well thankfully this song did make it to the final, or I would outrage. Still my favourite song from 2010, such a bouncy and fun song. #4 is Selena Gomez & The Scene in a good song shocker, thankfully this was their only hit, but then Selena went solo and gave us 'Come & Get It' :/ (hopefully that doesn't qualify here also) A very "cool" song ends up in the final also, which was massive here but he couldn't produce any other hits except featuring on a Cher Lloyd song. Brandon Flowers has been in the charts a lot with The Killers, but this was his only hit as a solo artist, and with the floppage of his new material, will likely stay that way. It's #2 in this round, not huge on it myself though. Now we go to 2011 and see which 5 songs qualified:
Firstly a song that was a bit of a surprise hit, but provided much needed freshness to the chart (despite being heavily based on 80s hit Ain't Nobody, it sounds very inspired). Wasn't expecting this to do so well but there are only 21 song to vote from this year (and one song didn't even get any points!) Great to see this getting big love too, this really deserved better in the charts than 4 weeks top 40, such a well done pop song. Now we get to the obvious qualifiers from the year, starting with this which got major love from the more indie posters of the chart forum and clearly is still remembered well. With that out of the way, we have a dance top 2, starting with Martin Solveig who got his first top 20 hit 7 years after his first top 40, and if Intoxicated ever gets released he could potentially shake off this OHW tag.
