Lewis Capaldi goes for a third week at #1 on the singles chart. Marshmello's newest single Here With Me featuring CHVRCHES is among the potential new entries along with Louis Tomlinson's Two of Us and Ava Max with So Am I
Tom Walker defends his #1 spot in a big album chart battle - with fresh contenders from Dave with his first studio album Psychodrama, Dido with Still On My Mind and Foals with Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1. Sigrid's debut album Sucker Punch finally lands, along with new releases from Paul Weller, James Morrison, David Gray, Juice WRLD, Maren Morris and more

Indeed a big week of New Album Releases, surprised 1-2 of those didn't hold back to next couple of weeks where the competition is not as strong. Looking forward to seeing Sigrid and Dido in Top 5 but wonder whether Tom Walker will hold on with about 20k.
Hope Sigrid manages top 5
I think Sigrid will do really well - she seems to have quite a lot of stans!
Also she had a 2 day pop up shop and lots of different formats and bundles (Picture Disc, Splatter Vinyl, Standard Vinyl, CD, Cassette etc.,).
Dido's previous studio Album ('Girl Who Got Away') opened in March 2013 with nearly 33k of Sales. This time she seems to have stepped up the promotional activities but overall Sales have dropped off a bit since 2013...
I’d like to see Dido keep up her top 5 streak. The album is really very good. 6 years later, I doubt she’ll be seeing 33k again. Probably be lucky to hit 13k
It's a crazy competitive week in albums, not sure why everybody chose this week, then there's almost no big releases til the end of April besides Billie Eilish
hoping Dido can open with 20K at least
also rooting for David Gray, even if he doesn't seem to be as popular as before
Pink is supposed to release her album in April but for some reason hasn’t announced a release date.
I can see Dido doing about 18k and Sigrid about 9k
Catfish and the Bottlemen and Khalid are also releasing in April, Catfish will almost certainly get a #1.
Foals or Dave for #1 this week surely? Hard to tell who’s going to open on the bigger sales. Would be nice to see Dido, Sigrid and Tom Walker complete the T5 too, if only to keep things fresh!
I think it should be between Dido and Tom Walker for the number 1 spot, they are both in the top 2 on iTunes and Amazon. Don't know who this Dave is and I can't see anyone else being number 1.
Daves streams will be high so that could help him compared to the rest.
Think a lot of artists wait until March to start the year nearly with album releases while January is quiet and Feb is awards season!
Doesn't Google skew your results based on your previous searches though?
Oh well, I reserve the right to recycle that joke if anyone says they don't know who A are. Or the XX Teens.
It does but I checked in an incognito tab to remove that bias and it wasn't really any different.
A's Wikipedia article is still the top search result if you search for 'a band' as well (although not just the letter 'A'), Google is smarter than you'd think x
The 'impossible to Google' thing regarding musicians is always way overstated. Almost every single one of them can be solved by just adding 'band' or 'singer' as long as you know how to spell their name. The only ones I can think of that are a genuine concern are BOY ('boy music group' works though) and !!! if you don't know it's pronounced chk chk chk (but '3 exclamation marks band' works anyway).
Tbh the fact that there are people who don’t know Dave shows that Funky Friday was that forgettable of a #1
They will know though, it got 5 stars on Guardian so the Mercury Prize nomination is inevitable.
To be fair, I never recognise more than half of the Mercury Prize nominations
if Mercury prizes were a baromoter for popularity lol
Ok so if #1 on charts or Mercury Prize (possibly) don't make you know the artist, wonder WHAT does? A song thread here on Buzzjack?
Mercury Prize has zero impact
Being #1 in the #1 sure has, unless you live under a rock
Update in coming. In the albums, Foals #1, Sigrid #2, Dido #3.
Sigrid absolutely smashing it!
Bur no doubt they could all be overtaken by Dave when streaming is added

Sigrid climbing rapidly in the singles and has amazing album sales!
Any idea of the album sales yet?
Hope Foals can hold on for their first #1 album!
the occ just says Foals are nearly 2k ahead of Sigrid who's 100 copies ahead of Dido
I only know A because Daniel P Carter from Radio 1 used to be in it, and Dougie Poynter from McFly is their touring bassist atm.
Chris brown 44 last week out this week
Are we getting any sales info tonight?
Pleasing to see Dido top 3, I hope she can hold on to it. If not, I’d ideally like her to remain top 5. Such a great album.
Sales added.
Does anyone know Weller's sales?
I think Foals and Dido will likely be more frontloaded than Sigrid and Dave but not sure by how much, tough to call who'll get the #1 (could still easily just be Tom Walker for a second week as well). Rooting for Dave to snatch it with the upweighted streams at the end of the week like what happened with Stormzy. Would be nice for Foals to get a first #1 as well although I've not been that impressed by the singles from this album (I think each one has been steadily better than the last but none of them are wowing me).
Kinda disappointed at how low 'Robbery' is, thought it would be comfortably top 40 considering the album release boost and it being #42 last week - hope it can climb throughout the week.
I actually think it’ll end up being..
#1 Sigrid
#2 Dave
#3 Foals
#4 Tom Walker
#5 Dido
YAS at Dido’s Greatest Hits sneaking in a re-entry too!
rooting for either Foals or Dido
I'll go:
1. Foals
2. Sigrid
3. Dave
4. Tom Walker
5. Dido
Dido is most likely the most front loaded unfortunately, i would have greatly welcomed Dido to be clearly Number 1.
I would have also liked the marvelous David Gray and James Morrison to be in the Top 10 i hope neither fall any lower than they are.
Calvin Harris feat. Rag'n'Bone Man,once again, so close, but yet so far.
Is there any missing dater
Hozier very much struggling with this album.
The Prodigy are holding good this week which i welcome.
Louis Tomlinson should be Top 40 as its not a bad song, i hop eit achieves a Top 75 place at the end of the week.
Strange for Hozier - as the album's #1 in America.
I've got the vinyl version of A's first album. Yes, I was buying albums on vinyl in the late 1990s, even though I had to go into central London to do it.
Fair play to him then
I think it be
1 Dave
2 Tom Walker
3 Foals
4 Dido
5 Sigrid
I'd say
1 Dido
2 Foals
3 Tom Walker
4 Dave
5 Sigrid
but mostly wishful thinking
I think the only way Dido would get #1 is if she has more big promo lined up during the week - not impossible but I think she's the least likely of the five to end up at #1.
Dido, despite being better than everyone ever, has no chance of no.1 I’m afraid.
With the midweek information we have i cant see Dido making any higher than a number 3 debut.
Why is everyone writing off Dido, surely Sigrid and the Foals are more front loaded. Dido rose to number one on Amazon yesterday and is still number one on iTunes. She's only 100 copies behind Sigrid.
Dido might overtake Sigrid and Foals but Dave will overtake her. Interesting chart battle!
ASIB might just grab another week in top ten.
OMG at LM5! I know it's a busy week but out of top 50 is awful.
Sigrid has significantly better streaming figures than Dido which will help her later in the week. Dido is much more of a fanbase act than Sigrid is so I don't see why she'd be less frontloaded?
Wonder which of the Albums in contention for #1 will be reduced to £5 by the end of the week?
Disappointed with the positions for Hozier, James Morrison and David Gray
I have been streaming the Dido album quite a bit. Hopefully that holds up.
I'm thinking
01 Foals
02 Dave
03 Sigrid
04 Tom Walker
05 Dido
Dave's streaming will prop him up a few places but not enough to secure #1. Foals will be fairly front loaded but they have good streaming, enough to keep them at #1 probably. Tom Walker will be consistent enough to overtake Dido too. It's a tough call though.
Always back the indie acts in album battles, foals will win this.
I think foals will take it too. The new David gray album is really good, but it will fall fast.
Foals are very frontloaded= haven't their tracks already exited the Spotify Top 200?
1 Sigrid
2 Dave
3 Foals
4 Tom Walker
5 Dido
is how I think it will finish but it will be close
You're right but their album is number five in the Apple Music album chart. Spotify doesn't have one but they're probably doing similarly well. Better than Sigrid and Tom Walker anyhow.
Poor Dido all of you writing her off, I hope she gets #1 now just to show you all (goes to play the album on Spotify!)
At least the The Greatest Showman Album looks like being out of the Top 5 for the first time since it's first week in chart - wouldn't write it off just yet though as Album Release schedule looks light for coming weeks - was hoping The Bohemian Rhapsody Album would be above it this week (especially given the DVD release of the Film).
can't see Foals staying at #1 when the gap is that small (much as i'd like to see it happen), my guess is Dave and maybe Tom Walker will overtake by Friday
Tbh my gut feeling until we see another update is that it'll just end up being Tom Walker again.
Just noticed Baby Shark is not yet hit by ACR.
FreyaWho?
singer-songwriters acts like Hozier or David Grey are gonna have it difficult now in the charts
cos they're now streaming-friendly enough to get massive numbers from streams
and the CD market has shrinked so much
I have streamed David Gray a few times this week, I like him enough to stream but not enough to buy,
so that's 0,05 of a sale only :/
Ava's So Am I is at #53 in the midweeks. Since it's gaining on UK iTunes I hope it will make its way into the top 40 by Friday.
Dave has the most noticeable fanbase of these five artists though I'd say - if he can keep encouraging streaming/sales of the physical CD on social media like he is then I reckon he could close the gap and snatch the #1. Exciting week in any case!
Louis Tomlinson And marshmello would though scrap in top 40 on Friday
Would love for Sigrid to get the number 1 album!!
Sigrid's Album seems to be dropping a bit (on iTunes and Amazon) relative to others but she has an Album signing today in Nottingham (at Rough Trade) and I think her Album is the one most likely to be discounted further. Dido's Album is holding up well and I think today's Update should show the momentum she has generated after the Promo from the weekend.

Yay Dido on the way up
Album chart #1 still up for grabs, between Dave and Dido if you factor yesterday's Sales for today and rest of week but still chance for others to pull a surprise.
OMG come on Dido
I’ve just bought it on Amazon today to try and help her out.
Would be amazing to see her at #1 over 15 years since her last #1 album.
James Morrison could climb tomorrow as he had promo today.
Good to see the album chart becoming exciting though
I'm surprised that So Am I isn't taking off. After the success of Sweet But Pyscho, you'd expect that there would be a lot of interest for whatever Ava would release next.
What a welcome surprise to see Dido climbing to number 2 today.
Top 3 starting to look safe for Dido now.
Slightly disappointed (but not surprised) to see James Morrison and David Gray declining.
I will settle for both holding a Top 20 position at the end of the week now.
Disappointed still for the Louis Tomlinson performance.
So Dido was the @1 seller on Monday with 2.3k
Just ahead of Tom and Dave
While sigrid and Foals did poorly
Really hope she can pull it off
Has Dido any promotion coming up for Wednesday or Thursday.
Oh, I guess I was wrong about Dido then. This is an impressive performance from her. Who knew so many casual purchasers would be here for a Dido album in 2019. x
I'm not knocking her music (it's not really something I'm that interested in, but I did hear and enjoy the Kendrick Lamar collab on one of her more recent albums, I also do like most of her older hits), it's just surprising that she's still relevant enough to the public to be contending for the #1.
Didos first two albums were that big that I think there’s always interest in her to chart highly in week 1.
But this is the most active she’s been in terms of promotion for ages.
Plus the album itself is really strong I’d say it’s her strongest since Life For Rent.
Total chart battle! Waiting to see who will drop the price of their album to £4.99 first
Currently on iTunes -
#1 Dido
#2 Dave
#3 Tom Walker
#4 James Morrison
#5 Sigrid
#6 Foals
Pitchfork gave 9.0 to Everything But the Girls' Walking Wounded in their Sunday review so Dido fits that trend quite well. She'll get lots of new (and returning) fans with this astounding album.
If everything sold the same for the rest of the week, the Top 5 albums would be:
1) Dido
2) Dave
3) Foals
4) Tom Walker
5) Sigrid
It's likely that streaming will see Dave overtake but it seems likely at this stage that Dido will keep the #2 position.
Having heard one of Dave's songs (the number 1 song from last year), I just don't understand why he's doing so well. Dido should overtake the Foals either in tomorrow's update or Thursdays but Dave seems to be the competition now.
Dave is campaigning hard on twitter
Dave being #1 wouldn't surprise me now then, I clearly underestimate his ability to sell on twitter (the same thing happened when I thought 'Funky Friday' going to #1 was unlikely). Plus his streaming is very stable.
This is the first Dido album I've invested in since Life For Rent. The numerous Spotify song releases since December as well as the music being poppier than I imagined she'd release, in a pretty dull music climate, I'm really not surprised she's holding up so well.
Interesting how Michael Jackson re-enters the top 40 a week after LN aired.
Having listened to Juice's album I'm glad to see him climb from yesterday.
Yeah, I was wondering if Michael Jackson would chart following Leaving Neverland. Not exactly what you'd expect given the nature of the documentary but any MJ in the charts is a good thing as far as I'm concerned so hopefully he'll stay Top 40. Let's just remember him for his music!
Have the Prodigy albums disappeared?
Listened to Daves album today and it's brillant
Yeah, Dave posted a video asking people to buy/stream the album on his social media and it's getting alot of attention. I hope he gets it.
A #1 single and album from him would be amazing considering he'd never had a top 40 this time last year.
Oh come on Dido! So backing her all the way!
Didn't even consider that Dave could pull the same Twitter campaigning as he did for 'Funky Friday' - think he is very likely to get the #1 album now then! A Dave/Dido top 2 would be quite the outcome ~
Don't know what to make of Dave yet, I couldn't stand Funky Friday personally and today Black played on one of my playlists and I got told to turn it off at work because of the swearing towards the end.
come on Dido, make a twitter campaign too
Alas I think her fanbase would require postal flyers
Dave is now doing album signings.
Regardless of the outcome this week, I'm rather loving that the album chart's become a bit competitive to watch again in recent months, between this week and the tussle between Busted and The Specials a few weeks ago. Admittedly it's a product of how the market for albums has bottomed out (ooh that sounds rude) but the alternative would be Redacted Showman at number one by default so I'm happy.

I hope Sigrid can sneak into the top 20
I hope Dido can reach 2. It’s a shame no.1 looks out of reach. I’d be much more impressed if she’d got it over Dave given she hasn’t had a top 40 hit for 15 years.
boo, so now it looks 100% too be Dave at #1 in albums come Friday
Just realised that the occ sure will have to estimate Thursday streams for albums too, never realised that, we always talk about how they estimate Thu streams for the single charts cos Spotify is always late reporting, but I assume it's the same for album streams
As nice as it would be to see Dido at number 1, I do think Dave has the better and more creative album. Though of the contenders I'm enjoying Foals album the most. I enjoy all 3 to differing extents. Not really felt inclined to give the Sigrid album a listen.
COME ON DAVE !!
The Top 3 albums is so close and all 3 albums are so varied.
I think Dave will take the Number 1 now with Dido in runners up position.
Bloody Dave
Given that Dave sold 3k today I think he will take it by a fairly wide margin
Does Dave have an independent label? Just thinking maybe Dido will be number one on that chart like Avril was a few weeks ago.
I would prefer to see Dido at the Top on Friday but dont see it happening now.
Yes, Dave is on an independent label.
Thought that chart means nothing tbh
Glad Dave looks like taking the album chart this week, good album from one listen!
Although it doesn't look like the top 5 will all break 20k it won't be far off it which is great for March!
Louis Tomlinson hope still top 50 don’t went leave a light on in top 40 on Friday
Boasty is No 40 today. Any chance of it staying in?
It's been climbing throughout the mids so I'd imagine it should safely be a new entry! Would love to see it becoming a big hit.
May I know where are westlife in yesterday's midweek?
Westlife 36
baby shark 35
Genuinely shocked at Westlife having any sort of longevity, I honestly thought they would struggle to get top 40.
Westlife have been top 10 in the most important playlist on Spotify for weeks and weeks, so no surprises, it actually should be much higher considering that
It doesn't just work like that, as you well know from constantly going on about how Picture This are so high up Hot Hits without charting highly... being on the playlists is generally necessary to be a hit but it's not sufficient, the song itself needs to actually be popular as well.
It definitely sets Westlife up well for their second single at the end of the month. The success of 'Hello My Love' has been one of the highlights of the year so far for me.
I really hope Dave pulls through I skimmed through the Dido record and it's nowhere near "Psychodrama"

Yesss ASIB will most likely overtake Paul Weller and stay in top ten.
Has Tom Walker leave light on out top 40
Marshmello behind Wiley despite being ahead on both iTunes and Spotify
Top 3 certain to break 20k at least!!
How did the Foals sell 2.6k yesterday when they sold just 900 copies the day before?
Nail biting end to a week - hoping Foals can pull it back last minute, but would happily see Dave (or even Dido for that matter) nab the #1.
No.1 pretty much out of the question for Dido now and I think no.2 is as week. A top 3 album is a great result though.
Dido looks likely to stay Number 3 now.
It would be good if all the Top 3 could pass 20k.
Impressive second week sales for Tom Walker.
Decent album sales! And pleased to see James Morrison hasn’t slumped down the charts as the weeks progressed although I’m sure he’s coming for that 12-78-out chart run
westlife in today's midweek? #38?
Do you know where ava max is with both her songs?
