Such a great collection of songs housed on one album.
19 years on so many of this tracks sound so refreshing and have such a strong Kylie vibe incensed in them all.
Light Years is Trademark Kylie.

I still adore this album and I never tire of it. I hope it gets a 20th anniversary rerelease next year with added bonus material.

That would be wonderful if its something that happens.
Like many other recording sessions there is enough material left over in the Light Years sessions to make an anniversary edition something special.
A new edition would also help the album pass half a million UK sales.

Fingers crossed it's something on the agenda as there would be interest in such a release.

Kylie really seems to be in tune with what her fans want at the moment as do BMG.
I also feel Kylie is aware of the fan love for Light Years and additionally it is the album that turned Kylies career around.
Maybe i am trying to convince myself a 20th anniversary edition will happen! happy.gif

From recent interviews from Kylie it does appear that way.
It is important to on some level understand the needs of the fans as without them/us nothing will be a success.

It def is and I remember kylie saying after the intimate and live tour she knew her fans wanted pop music from her as she could see the reaction in the crowd when she performed her pop numbers.

Impossible Princess was such a great album for such different reasons.
The album itself is very good and it also showcased how diverse Kylie can be and also what a solid song writer she is.
It also was realization for Kylie herself that her fans like and wanted pop from her as that's what they enjoyed most from her.
That said, Kylie may have returned to pop for her fans but also to save her career and her triumphant return to pop with Light Years highlighted that "pop" is her home and it is where she achieves her most success.

Light years just really brought kylie back to where she needed to be but IP was needed to get her to that point. Kylie could have kept writing songs like those on IP and used such songs as b sides as that she she could have sampled both worlds of sound.

They may have not worked having 2 such contrasting sounds.
Spinning Around having a b side such as Too Far or Dreams may not have worked so well.

Maybe but kylie would have got to experiment that way but keep her mainstream success going with great pop music. The Ip material would be liked by more if it had exposure but then that could be said for alot of material by multiple artists.
Thinking back kylie was so lucky she was liked by the press as the press didn't maul her when things were going wrong, she got a bit of stick but compare her to Gary Barlow for example she got away light.

The press were kind to Kylie there is no doubt, Kylie's personality through the years and her huge likeability factor saved Kylie from a harsh press backlash when her music career was on the skids.
Her luck continued when she returned with Spinning Around as she achieved massive coverage with the comeback and the Gold Hot Pants covered many inches on the tabloids.
The tabloids heavily lauded Kylie through both the Light Years and Fever campaigns and further releases too.
Kylie is seen as a "darling" by the tabloids and it, in large, has worked to Kylie's advantage.

The tabloids really got behind her comeback which did help spinning around go all the way to number 1.

The tabloid coverage on the gold hot pants alone was instrumental in Spinning Around returning Kylie to Number 1.

Always remember the day when 'Spinning Around' was announced as the UK #1, and I was so chuffed, because this not only meant that she was back, but her return was a success and I do think that we were all ready for it and gave not only the fans but the general public the sound that we wanted, an updated pop sound. Here's my ranking off the album tracks =

1. Your Disco Needs You
2. Disco Down
3. Butterfly
4. Light Years
5. Under The Influence of Love
6. Bittersweet Goodbye
7. So Now Goodbye
8. Loveboat
9. I'm So Hight
10. Password
11. Koocachoo

Isnt that the cover sleeve from the Butterfly cd single.
I do think it is a great cover.

Cover Me with Kisses*
Paper Dolls*
Ocean Blue*
Good Life*
Physical*

Apart from these songs is there more songs from the Light Years recording era available.
If so, i would replace alot of the remixes on cd 2 with any such songs.

There's also 'Always and Forever' which I'd available but wasn't released on anything. There's also a cover of 'Bury Me Deep in Love' with Jimmy Little that was released at a similar time which I adore.

I'm guessing there's other songs that we're not yet aware of too. I'd love a 20th anniversary Light Years release but I'm not too hopeful.
