Sadly I feel my own entry may have blended into the background too much, but I hope not as I have started to really like it. More interested to see who sent what as I couldn't predict anything.

Really can't call a winner given such a similar sound throughout, but I guess Scandroid or Gemini Rising could be a good shout.

Niky Nine - 909 & Heartbreak

Kicking off the night is NocheLuna with his entry ‘909 & Heartbreak’! Niky Nine is a French DJ whose music is influenced by the ‘darkest 80s movies’. The entry comes from popular synthwave channel NewRetroWave. There are pounding synths to be found here and repeated female vocal portions that come and go. Noche decides to award Gemini Rising top marks so they become our first leader of the night. Jai Wolf takes the silver position for now and Future Holotape the bronze. We’d like to thank Noche for being so prompt with voting as his scores landed in my inbox as early as Friday 17th April, a full week before the deadline. Wahey!

02. Dexton was behind…

Rosentwig - Press Start To Begin Your Journey

Next up is Dexton with his entry ‘Press Start To Begin Your Journey’ by Rosentwig! If only he’d voted a little bit earlier so this could’ve been a fitting song title to kick off results. Never mind! It is the opening track to its accompanying EP so at least it gets that moment on there. We go to a different European country this time, Germany, where DJ Rosentwig claims to make “moody music”. Here we have a super chilled instrumental with a catchy beat, taken from a channel called ‘disconnected from the interwebs’. Goals. Dexton and NocheLuna snub each other so they remain on 0 for now. However, Dexton’s votes change the leader as it’s now Jai Wolf in first! Gemini Rising drop down to third and Future Holotape ascends to second place. Dexton’s 12 for Andromeda Dreams catapults them into the top 5.

03. lewistgreen was behind…

Rogue VHS - Jupiter

Now it’s lewistgreen who is unmasked as the sender of ‘Jupiter’ by Rogue VHS! The British producer claims to have a passion for space so the title here is self explanatory. This entry was a nice stop-gap of calm vibes in the running order after a pretty full-throttle high energy section before it. It’s one of many instrumental entries. Rogue VHS is yet to pick up any points in these early days, but Lewis does help out a lot of others in their quest to rise from 0. Especially Glitch Lazzer who vaults from 0 to 10. His 12 points to Jai Wolf extends that lead further at the top. Another notable movement is David Hasselhoff entering the top 10. Goals.

'Jupiter' was fantastic (and well placed in the running order being a nice cool-down after like 5 super high octane songs in a row lol). 2 excellent CB entries in a row from Lewis!

04. Addy was behind…

Wice - Star Fighter

Addy was next in line to vote! His entry is revealed as the pounding instrumental ‘Star Fighter’ by Wice. This follows ‘Jupiter’ in the reveal so the space theme very much continues. Wice is a Danish synthwave artist so another different European country to appear so far! We were treated to some very aesthetically pleasing NewRetroWave visuals for this package. With Addy’s help all of the people unmasked so far now have points! Lewis’ entry vaults from 0 to 12, after receiving Addy’s top marks, so the dance mod is now sitting pretty in the top 10. Dexton is no longer left with 0 too. NocheLuna already got off the mark but a little boost never hurts! Addy’s votes allow Hollywood Burns to enter the top 3. Could the spooky song go all the way? On the other end of the spectrum, just three songs remain on 0 points now.

Future Holotape - Light Racer

Next is Wardy who hopes for my own entry to be amongst his own votes! Well, not long to find out as I’m the next person to be announced. But, back to Wardy, he is behind ‘Light Racer’ by Future Holotape. We return to vocals this time, male ones at that, as LA based cyberpunk/synthwave act Future Holotape provide a pretty dreamy package. ‘Light Racer’ is currently in the top 5 so a great position for Wardy to be in at this stage of the contest! Look at NocheLuna go too - as the silver for ‘909 & Heartbreak’ allows it to zoom into 2nd overall, just behind Jai Wolf right now. Glitch Lazzer and Hollywood Burns complete the top 5 but the Hoff is not far behind! Three people remain on 0 points at this stage of the reveal.

Arvo Party - Chevy Chase

Next up it’s your hostess! My entry is revealed as ‘Chevy Chase’ by Arvo Party. So yes you did vote for me Wardy! This is that tense, rip-roaring instrumental with visuals from the movie Equilibrium. Arvo Party is based in Belfast so he’s our first Irish act of the night. I’m currently sitting in the top 15 after my votes so not bad at all. My 12 points for NocheLuna’s entry puts him within touching distance of the top! I also awarded Jai Wolf 2 points so the gap between the top 2 currently stands at 3 points. Jean Michel Jarre and Scandroid also get a big boost thanks to my respective medal positions for them. I thought both would be doing better from name recognition alone so let’s hope they continue to receive more boosts! Elsewhere, I lift Fixion off 0 with 6 points, so just two songs remain on 0 now.

Jade bringing the taste *.* 'Chevy Chase' was a turning point in the BeatSense session where I started loving nearly every song after finding the few just before it to not stand out too much ~

07. Bré was behind…

Devault - RUNWAY

Of course me and Bré voted one after the other! The impact of the BeatSense session. Bré’s entry is revealed as the closer ‘RUNWAY’ by Devault! This song definitely ended proceedings in a dark, standout way. Devault is American and cites the likes of Depeche Mode, Daft Punk and even A$AP Rocky as influences! ‘RUNWAY’ is currently in the top 15 so a strong start. I’m not in the dog house as I gave this entry 7 points and Bré has returned 10 points to my entry - its first medal position of the night! This allows ‘Chevy Chase’ to zoom into the top 5, woah. I am pipped to the post in his votes by lewistgreen’s entry which has so far received two 12s and nothing else! At this early stage this is enough love for it to be top 3. Fixion receives the bronze, so its fortunes have quickly changed after being stuck on 0 for a while. Speaking of which… Bré now lifts Dan Terminus off 0 with 7 points, leaving poor Jasper Byrne as the last song on 0. On the other side of the scoreboard, Bré snubs Niky Nine but throws a few points to ‘Starlight’, extending that lead. Lastly, Jean Michel Jarre enters the top 10 for the first time tonight!

This is the second time in a row that I've given 12 to Lewis!! The taste is real. In another fun coincidence Devault also released a remix of 070 Shake's 'Guilty Conscience' like one day after I confirmed him for this contest, so it was always meant to be

Next up it’s Juan Carlos who is revealed to be the one behind ‘River of Darkness’ by The Midnight featuring Timecop1983! Both names are heavyweights in the world of synthwave so it’s a surprise to see this entry languishing in the bottom 3 right now. Perhaps more of a mid-tempo moment got a bit lost in amongst the full-throttle entries and über relaxing ones. It’s still early days though so they could still make a comeback. ‘River of Darkness’ is one of quite a few saxophone-heavy songs in the contest - an often essential element of synthwave tbh. Juan Carlos awards Jai Wolf top marks so ‘Starlight’ now has a lead of 17 points! Can that be overtaken? We’re still yet to find out who is behind that one. ‘Jupiter’ continues to get medal positions and nothing else so that is enough for this lewis entry to rise to 2nd. Andromeda Dreams receive the bronze, so that lifts up to 6th. I remain in 4th place after a 6 point boost, while Jean Michel Jarre rises into the top 5! Poor ‘Miami’ is still waiting for votes.

09. King Rollo was behind…

Artemus Gordon - Deathrace 2000

Now it’s Rollo’s turn to be revealed! He was surprisingly not behind one of the longer songs like ‘Oxygene Pt. II’. Instead he sent French producer Artemus Gordon with the instrumental ‘Deathrace 2000’. The accompanying visuals feature footage from the anime movie Redline. There’s a pretty intense race going on so it’s fitting for the title. Rollo is currently scraping top 20, not bad, however his favourite ‘Oxygene Part II’ is now sitting pretty in the top 3, wow! Who could be behind that one? His 10 points for ‘Jupiter’, still getting medals or nothing, reduces the gap between 1st and 2nd to 7 points. He snubbed Jai Wolf so that helped here. Rollo’s bronze goes to ‘Red Eyes’ which now has a round 20 points. Dexton’s entry finally gets another point but this is not enough to lift Rosentwig from second last. As for last… poor ‘Miami’, will that have better luck as we reach a double-figure number of voters?

Still only 2 of my votes unmasked after 9 reveals ;o Artemus Gordon was 11th for me though so was a pretty strong opening track! Zombie Hyperdrive - Red Eyes

Voter number 10 is Dobbo! His entry is revealed to be ‘Red Eyes’ by Zombie Hyperdrive. This is one of the many tracks entered with a spooky title. However, it’s not so scary sonically. It’s a mix of synths and guitar and has this real late night drive feel to it, especially with the accompanying image so kindly provided by NewRetroWave. Dobbo’s votes shake things up as we have a NEW LEADER! Jean Michel Jarre snatches the crown currently after a second 12 in a row, while Jai Wolf is snubbed. Just a measly mealworm point in it… oh my! Still waiting to find out who is behind either entry of course. Dobbo’s 10 points go to ‘RUNWAY’ so that advances to 7th - resulting in Brade next to each other! This reveal order is really keeping me waiting to find out who's behind the songs I voted for though, still only my top 2 unmasked so far! Zombie Hyperdrive was another of the many contenders for my last 2 spots though (landing in 14th).

11. HarryEzra was behind…

Scandroid - Neo Tokyo (Dance With The Dead Remix)

Next up it’s Harry and his entry is revealed to be the Dance With The Dead remix of Scandroid’s ’Neo Tokyo’! Both of these acts are BJSC alumni, with Dance With The Dead scoring top 3 hit ’Waves’ in the 79th contest. Could this do as well tonight? Well, it’s currently scraping the top 20, so it needs a lot more support - but we are only on vote 11 so far, so we’ll see what happens! This is a very epic remix with guitars galore and an anthemic chorus. Harry’s votes change the leader again as Jai Wolf is there once more thanks to 8 points! But Jean Michel Jarre does get 3 points too so the lead is only 4 points. 12 points go to Gemini Rising after a long drought and that’s enough to be back in the top 10! Dan Terminus also benefits a lot from Harry’s silver and rises to 8th. High points for my entry ‘Chevy Chase’ allows that to rise into the top 5 again. Still waiting patiently for ‘Miami’ points!

A great entry from Harry, always nice to see DANCE WITH THE DEAD being wheeled out in these contests - really don't get how it's doing so badly so far? (The Midnight being so low is rather shocking as well, although I wasn't the biggest fan of that song, I really thought name recognition could be a big help in this contest but seems like it's more the opposite so far!)

Andromeda Dreams - Two Million Light Years

Now it’s Pete who is behind ‘Two Million Light Years’ by Andromeda Dreams! He isn’t feeling too confident about the chances of his entry, but it is currently 13th even after his own votes, so that’s a pretty good place to be in right now! The mastermind behind the Andromeda Dreams project is based in Ukraine so we’re coming through with more interesting European nationalities. The song itself is a fairly dreamy instrumental with some seriously cool synthwave visuals - to be expected from a channel called V H S T H E T I C I suppose. So, straight after Harry’s votes, he is rewarded with a 12! This puts ‘Neo Tokyo’ just 1 point shy of the top 10. Next up it’s revealed that Iz is behind the upbeat instrumental ‘Odaiba Chase’ provided by Italo-Swiss duo Flashworx. His entry is currently sitting in the top 15. Jai Wolf matches Jean Michel Jarre’s number of 12s now, with 3 apiece, but this is not enough to flip the top 2 around. This is because Iz provides ‘Oxygene Pt. II’ with 7 points as well. Next up is Cody who is behind ‘Digital Onslaught’ by Dan Terminus! This was an all guns blazing dark synthwave instrumental with accompanying visuals from the anime Ninja Scroll. Dan Terminus is apparently relevant enough to have a page on Synthwave wiki, goals. Cody is only 2 points away from the top 10 right now even after his own votes. Jai Wolf receives another 12 in a row, ensuring that ‘Starlight’ is now the winner again, as rival Jean Michel Jarre gets nothing. Hollywood Burns is creeping up closer behind them though following 8 points from Cody! His silver is awarded to Harry (Hody lives on) so that is now in the top 10. Hollywood Burns - Scherzo No.5 in Death Minor

Now we finally get to find out one of the people behind an entry in this dominant top 4! It’s Dan, currently in 3rd place, with ‘Scherzo No.5 in Death Minor’ by Hollywood Burns. The French producer mixed together synths, strings and piano to create one spooky concoction. Dan’s 12 goes to Addy’s entry ‘Star Fighter’ which shoots up into 12th. Glitch Lazzer then climbs to 8th following a silver score - leaving me and Bray hanging by a thread in the top 10. The identity of the poster behind Glitch Lazzer is still unknown. ‘Jupiter’ has suffered a drought but comes back strong with a bronze - this lewis entry has still received nothing but medal positions!

Jai Wolf - Starlight (feat. Mr Gabriel)

Next we find out the identity of another one of the high scorers - in fact, the current winner! It is Bal who is behind ’Starlight’ by Jai Wolf featuring Gabriel. This was a very relaxing moment in the listening session with twinkly piano playing, pretty synths and soothing vocals courtesy of Mr Gabriel. Definitely another one perfect for late night drives. Bal does not shoot himself in the foot at all, in fact, he voted for all of the bottom four! ‘Miami’ is sadly still last but is now at least attached to double-figure points. Bal’s 12 went to Dexton’s Rosentwig who is now sitting just outside of the top 20. The silver for Wayfloe boosts that up to 12th - we still do not know who sent that one. Bal then awarded Pete’s entry ‘Two Million Light Years’ a bronze medal so that is just behind Wayfloe in 13th. Dobbo now joins me and Bré on 44 points, following 3 from Bal, so we’re all fighting hard for that low top 10 place!

One of only a couple of songs that I had a good guess as to who was behind it as I remember Bal wanting to send Jai Wolf to BJSC before this song wasn't quite as great as 'Indian Summer' but still liked it quite a lot and it did stand out well among the pack! Yet again one of the highest scorers swiftly gets their votes in! Jupiter is behind ‘Orbit’ by Gemini Rising, which he predicted to finish dead last and is instead currently in 4th… lol. Gemini Rising is a project from Tensnake, Fiora and Lester Mendez. The trio have offered up a real dance-pop 80s throwback here. Jupiter rewards Jai Wolf with a 12, the fifth top score for that entry tonight, so ‘Starlight’ now has a 21 point lead in first. Next, the 10 goes to an entry that was lagging behind quite a bit in comparison, this is ‘River of Darkness’ which now sits just outside the top 20. My timely anarchic anthem not going down too well then :'( I have grown to really like it, was considering a number of songs by them after coming across their album on Bandcamp. That said, I'm not too surprised given so many people went for a similar sound!

I'm not sure why I missed Jai Wolf as a contender, I did like that too, only just missed my votes. REALLY got my hopes up for Jean Michel Jarre though, a stunning song that I can't believe is from the 1970s, I must check out the Oxygene album!

Jupiter the member being dead last in my rankings while 'Jupiter' the song was my 12. (To be clear 'Orbit' is a perfectly fine song, I didn't dislike anything in this contest, just thought that one seemed the most middling / forgettable - I can see why it's appealed more to others though).

Next up it’s dandy* and he’s behind Wayfloe featuring Jessie Frye with ‘Fractions’! This was a smooth, mid-tempo moment in the contest with pretty lush vocals from rising synthwave star Jessie. He’s currently sitting in a very respectable 12th. The Midnight continue to get a late surge as ‘River of Darkness’ now rises to 17th thanks to Dandy’s 12. His 10 to Gemini Rising then helps Jupiter propel into the top 3, wow! Finally, his 8 to Glitch Lazzer helps that to ascend into the top 5. But who was behind that one? All will be revealed soon. The thing is with synthwave, considering this is a dance forum contest and we were trying to send stuff that wasn't too pop or too rock to fit within the forum, it's easy for the genre to get pigeonholed into a couple specific concepts and that's why most of the entries may sound too similar to one another

Jasper Byrne - Miami

So it is math that is behind poor ‘Miami’ by Jasper Byrne that has been last for the entire night, if only joint last at first! Could it finally escape the wooden spoon right at the end? Only time will tell. I’m surprised that this hasn’t fared better, because it gives off Kavinsky - ‘Nightcall’ vibes with its robotic vocals and I’m pretty sure that very famous synth song generally goes down well on here. Maybe the slightly disturbing artwork put people off. Or it’s just very competitive and math got unlucky, yeah, let’s go with that. Math awards 12 points to Jean Michel Jarre, so that entry is just 10 points away from winning again now. Niky Nine climbs back up to 6th following the silver medal also. Bré’s entry then makes progress in 8th following the 8 points. Honestly anything could happen at this point still - just 8 points between 10th and 5th for instance! So it is photografdemon who is behind current top 5 entry ‘Don’t Give Up’ by Glitch Lazzer! photografdemon barely remembers his entry according to that PM so here’s a refresher - there’s a very prominent saxophone and a lot of tension to get to the vocals, as they only came in at around the 2 minute mark! photo’s votes award 12 points to Cody’s entry so that’s now in the top 10 in 8th! The 10 points go to Rollo, which allows him to scrape in the top 10 too. It’s all change even at this late stage! Sadly he hasn’t quite replicated their success in this contest as the wooden spoon is currently shared between both Jacob and Wardy. As for Jacob’s votes, he’s loyal to both of his former BJSC artists and this allows ‘River of Darkness’ to soar into the top 15! His 10 points then go to Rosentwig, so that is now in the top 20. Then he gives Wayfloe the bronze, so dandy sneaks ahead of me into the top 15. David Hasselhoff - True Survivor

Next we have Meek’s votes, in a PM titled ‘Jerd me vyiats’, and of course he was the man behind ’True Survivor’ by David Hasselhoff! The film ‘Kung Fury’ was released back in 2015, featuring a cameo from The Hoff himself and this song for the soundtrack. Hoff goes full 80s with synths galore, an irresistibly catchy chorus and an action-packed video. He’s currently 18th but faces a 15% deduction shortly due to late votes. Michael’s votes allow Pete’s entry ‘Two Million Light Years’ to climb to 16th following a 12, then Gemini Rising climb to 3rd place after a silver. Scandroid continues to progress as well thanks to a bronze - that’s up to 6th! With only 1 entry left to be revealed and 1 poster left with a deduction, I think it’s obvious to say that Jai Wolf is now uncatchable as said poster cannot give top marks to themselves nevertheless, so a big congrats to Bal! We’ll come back to that properly for the final scoreboard.

Finally we have Leww who is revealed to be behind Jean Michel Jarre with ‘Oxygene Pt. II’! French producer Jarre is a trailblazer of this unique, ambient, ahead of its time sound. ‘Oxygene Pt. II’ was one of our longest entries too - clocking in at over 7 minutes. This entry has been doing well all night, so it’s frustrating that Leww faces a penalty, but at least it isn’t winning at this stage (like earlier) and Leww pushes Gemini Rising ahead with his own votes too! His 12 goes to Artemus Gordon, so Rollo it looks like you’ve bagged yourself a top 5 tonight! Leww’s 8 goes to… me! Which pushes me up to 11th, gah, so close!!

A brilliant entry from Leww, stood out a bit as probably a more well-known track than everything else but it was still new to me so cannot knock it. Glad that it's still managed a top 5 position despite the deduction, not really much of a difference when it wouldn't have been thaaat close to winning in the end anyway! And the song that's replaced it in the top 3 was right next to it in my votes anyway so still pretty happy with 2 of the top 3, congrats to Jupiter on a strong performance as well even if it wasn't really my cup of tea. 5th through 9th place all got points from me as well, particularly happy Rogue VHS clung on despite getting fairly few total votes and Scandroid/Dan Terminus both handily turning around early flagging performances!

Thanks Leww for the final few points for Devault meaning I at least snatched back a top 15 position in the final vote so not entirely ending on a low - I'm a little bit gutted to have ended up as low as 15th as I had pretty high hopes for this entry and the additional false hope of being top 10 for a lot of the reveal before being snubbed by nearly all of the later voters but nevermind, it wasn't to be (and of course it has ended up being pretty close, only one hypothetical vote away from 7th place, also pleased enough to have been in the top 3 for 3 people)! Hoping to come back stronger next time around ~~ (Bal to possibly maybe host a song contest for the first time? gah)

Also a shame that Arvo Party just barely missed the top 10 and Fixion got paid absolute dust and poor poor Jacob being the holder of the lowest position ever achieved in Club Bizarre on his first attempt debut entries at both the top and the bottom of the scoreboard gah!

Jade, you did a fantastic job at hosting (in fact, everyone has over the past few years of this contest) and the amount of effort you put in to the threads, commentary etc has been smooth and flawless. Thank you for your patience with the veto process as I know it wasn’t an easy one.
We hope that by giving you all free reign makes it an enjoyable contest to host and I look forward to the next one!

Congrats on the debut win! All of the songs were kind similar but at least the few standouts did well It’s a difficult sub genre for this contest so it was very hard to predict the results. Thanks for hosting Jade!

Ah well, I clearly must have gotten lost in the crowd, very easy with this topic, but a failure for my song contest mission, but I'm no synthwave expert and really had to go with the first thing I found that sounded pretty nice, which 'Odaiba Chase' did.

Congratulations Haus, that was clearly the best, or at least most unique song here, I'm glad it managed to go on and win, excellent and enjoyable hosting to read through Jade!

Aha so it was Dan who sent Hollywood Burns! I knew that would do well as it managed to stand out amongst the pack - cutting that lead back in the league table then.

Have to be honest I don't even remember how the winning song went, but looks as if those with vocals may have possessed an advantage as standing out in this edition. Many congrats Haus, another new debut winner 10 editions after the first!

A shame Oxygene received a deduction as it was my fave by a close margin. I really liked RUNWAY too but lucky I didn't end up giving that the 12 in the end

The points were all very close after the top 3 then with only 30 separating 4th from 18th! Makes sense with all the comments regarding voting.

And 14th is a little disappointing in truth but then it was my backup entry and it was only a couple of points off the top half.

Lastly thanks to Jade for being a great host!

Thanks everyone who supported Glitch Lazzer, it's actually not a random choice, I had to listen to a couple of synthwave-related playlists and 'Don't Give Up' came...30th-ish or so, then I gave a chance on 10+ more tracks and then realized - that's the kind of sound that makes me really listening to music, not letting it play on the background.
Congrats Bal tho, your entry just missed the cut after the second run on the tracks, really beautiful track with attractive vocals.
Poor Rosentwig, pretty little track (almost) no one pushed the button for
