I believe that the forum has been lagging a bit more of late. It can take ages for pages to load and I've noticed a number of instances of double-posting which is often caused by someone clicking the "Post New Reply" tab due to delays in pages loading.
I know there's nothing much that can be done, but I'm curious to know if others are experiencing similar issues on the forum at present?
I get it sometimes but I think it's just my internet.
anyone else? Not heard anything from others on site slowness
Clear the Buzzjack cache on your browser, and it should be as fast as ever again.
It's an intermittent issue browsing from my iPad. Haven't noticed it yet using my phone for example.
I'll try and do what you suggested mdh.
That sounds like a connection issue
I don't have any issues on iPhone, iPad or MacBook. Unless my actual internet connection is bugging out so your internet connection might be the best place to start. Is it slow on other sites at the same time as buzzjack is lagging?
Crazy download speeds there Andrew! I barely get 25mb
The site has been briefly going down / seriously lagging more frequently than usual over the last few weeks (and it's not just my Internet, as it always affects other people I'm chatting to on Skype as well) - it's not a serious issue though, as it thus far hasn't ever lasted more than a few minutes at a time, just throwing in my two pennies that it's not just Wardy experiencing this.
Not lagging as such but the forum did go down for me for a few minutes this afternoon.
Check out my super speedy WiFi x
I get brand new super fast broadband Sunday finally
Anyone else getting issues with the site servers in the last few minutes?
Yes! I've noticed it a few times over the past week or so.
More so recently when I am using a laptop or computer, not so much when using my phone.
Yes, the site crashed completely during the chart show thread on Friday.
Pages are taking too long to load, and sometimes don’t load at all. The servers are really struggling lately.
Some thing here, page took a while to load.
Went down again yesterday at about 9PM. Took 10 minutes to work again.
Lagging again for me, more LAG than redsox commenting on the UK singles chart this evening.
Went down twice in about twenty minutes and has been happening daily lately!
it seems like this is becoming more and more of a problem bc this has been happening at a specific time every day
Anyone had any problems with the homepage loading up at all?
Anyone still having any problems with the homepage loading up at all?
It's not been fully loading on my phone this morning!
Anyone still having any problems with the homepage loading up at all?,.still happening.for.me.
Is it just me or are have others been having speed/connectivity issues over the past few days or so?
It's taking about 20-30 seconds to open a page on my phone (if that) and, whilst slightly quicker, isn't as fast as it should be on my laptop. This is on both wifi and 4G and every other website is working fine for me!
If it's just me, then consider this my leaving post because I can't put up with it x
No it's definitely a server issue, it's being very slow for me too.
Philip is aware and is looking into it. Let’s hope it is resolved soon.
Is it something to do with this:
2057 user(s) active in the past 30 minutes
There are 43 members, 3 anonymous members, 2011 guests on the board. ?
It has taken about 3 minutes on the tablet for the homepage to load. Couple of minutes for this page.
I'm glad it's a buzzjack issue as I thought it was something on my end! Just noticed the 2k+ guests has now decreased to 500-1k and the forum is loading a lot better. I wonder where that large number of guests is coming from?
yes apologies, it seems like the server is being inundated by requests which is putting pressure on some parts of the infrastructure. We are monitoring and will keep working on it.
Mine was taking a good 5 minutes to load but seems to be working perfectly now!
Looks like the number of guests viewing is rapidly rising again now but it doesn't seem to be causing the site to crawl to a halt again so I guess the temporary forced login is working.
I had problems loading as well it took at least 5 to 8 minutes to load up.
Actually this also happened a week ago as well, it was also a Friday, and there was a huge amount of guests online the date was 22/11/19, around the time the sales topic went up 6:15pm. I actually reported it last night, as it was acting strange, and gave JosephStyles and Suedehead a nod.
It resolved just as I was looking for an excuse to avoid checking Joseph's personal chart
3017 user(s) active in the past 30 minutes
There are 102 members, 8 anonymous members, 2907 guests
lol we broken the all time record of 1006 online
Over 1000 of them are viewing the TV Forum Index thread.
It’s Klaus’ fault
The site is unable to be viewed without signing in at the moment, is this linked to the problems that happened here today?
Read the next topic down
Do we have a permanent solution for this now then? Guest numbers have still been constantly over 1,000 but the site is working fine now.
Phil managed to clear some 'stuff' (my technical term) that was clogging the site and has managed to isolate some of the traffic - but the former worked in terms of sorting the slowness of the site.
He's still looking at it though to try and understand the guest numbers.
Is it just me or have the servers been really slow at peak times lately?
It’s awful right now
Yeah everyone's been experiencing it. I thought it was just my internet connection tbh!
Thanks guys, what is slow browsing or posting? Also is it intermittent for the occasional few seconds or for long periods of time?
All of sudden pages just won't load, usually when you've tried to post something. It lasts for about 5 minutes or so.
Pages taking ages to load or simply not loading at all. I find in my case it is when browsing, but I’ve noticed it at times when I’m about to post, so I deliberately wait to avoid duplicating my posts.
Edit: Just to say, as I type this message right now everything appears ok, it just seems to happen at peak times for me during the evenings.
It's happened a few times throughout today alone, normally I get it at least once a day at some point.
This has been awful for a while now (it happening last night reminded me to post in here). If I post a reply, or try to visit certain threads by clicking from the Index, the pages can be hanging for at least 3-5 mins.
I have just turned off site search to confirm or deny if this is the issue. If you experience the same slowness can you please post here to let me know. Thanks
I obviously don't know for sure but I kind of doubt that is the issue? I use the search feature a lot as part of my BJSC mod duties and it's never resulted in the site crashing.
Search will impact this? If so will turn back on tomorrow. Please pm me if you need it urgently.
Definitely the search slows the site, big searches more so. This will not be a problem on the new site.
I feel lost without the 'view new posts' function working
Yeah I'm finding it near impossible to keep up with different threads without the 'view new posts'. The site is near unusable for me like this.
OK switched the search back on. The new site will resolve this issue whatever the cause as we have a better search system and more powerful server.
For the record, the last 2 evenings around this time (just after 9pm) pages have been taking longer to load, it isn’t a search function, just refreshing the homepage that is taking so long. I imagine it is the same for others too.
I think Gaga's broken Buzzjack.
I don't know about everyone else but I'd rather just put up with the site lagging a couple of minutes per day than not be able to use the search feature and all the other things that rely on it, even if the issue is with the search engine. It's a bit annoying but it doesn't exactly make the site unusable.
(so yes, thanks Phil for turning that back on)
It’s been happening again lately, prompting another inquest into the next BuzzJack forum/website that was expected this month after Phil’s previous comments.
Happening quite a bit just then.
I feel like I've actually noticed it less in the last couple of weeks or so? (although maybe I have just been avoiding the times it has happened x)
Big crash this time - forum couldn’t be reached for some time.
Yeah, it was half an hour on this occasion.
I think that this happened some time ago because the site was taking longer to load.
looks like one malicious IP address flooding the server - 10 minutes outage
I see users connecting 10 minutes before we came back but it might have been unusable before this time. Apologies all
It’s still very laggy for me right now. Anyone else?
EDIT: Notable improvement in the last few minutes.
Having problems tonight, takes ages to load
It went down for a while again after your post Phil - same issue again?
I was getting 'connection timed out' errors from these crashes which isn't usually the case (normally when the site is being slow it just hangs on pages and doesn't load new ones, but it doesn't give up and show errors).
Yay we're back on! (for now)
Yay! I was shook to find Buzzjack down
Is anyone having problems again?
sorry backing up the site. We move to new servers and site soon so this is in maintenance until then.
Just been really bad this past half hour, taking up to 10 minutes to load a page
Same here! I thought we'd been bisieged by rabid Mollie King fans.
It's been fine for me this time round.
It was the same for me. Phil did say he was working on backong up stuff or something last week? Maybe it's that.
All Ok at present.
Been laggy for me just.
It’s back
Was very laggy for me earlier tonight.
site quite often gets laggy for me now.
It’s doing it again (to nobody’s surprise at all).
We have had a few problems today. Philip has had a look and it should be fixed now. Fingers crossed.
Must be a bug around, Spotify was down the other day and Snapchat is being so slow today too.
I was getting mildly concerned about the downtime earlier - BuzzJack going down still happens all the time so it's not normally something that bothers me any more (it's just a signal to go do something else for a couple of minutes x) but it seemed to be going on significantly longer than usual this time. Good thing Phil was on hand and indeed it's been fine for the rest of the day.
The more this happens the more urgently we should be really getting migrated to our new site and new servers.
Just seemed to lag for me just then.
I'm experiencing lag issues. When writing a post and clicking on post - it just hangs and nowt happens and I end up having to post twice
It’s not that I’ve been having lag time recently as such, but just an observation I’ve made in more recent times is that having embedded links to Youtube videos, Spotify, Apple Music, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook really slows page loading times. I don’t want these features to be removed of course, but it’s having an effect on some pages in the forum.
It really is getting worse each day.
It's been a major one for going down this evening. 2 or 3 times lagging.
When the entire forum moves to Discord
Does Phill still run this site?
^ he does!
It's been notably bad recently and it always seems to happen when I actually need the site for something
Has the forum been down all day for everyone?
This is the first time I've been able to get on this site today.
Looking at the Latest Posts it's been the same for everyone.
That was a long lag time today
Definitely time to find new website hosts as these servers are appalling.
Sorry guys, hardware failure and had to rebuild the box. Looking at options currently to stabilise and improve performance.
Note from the engineer:
Thanks for getting it fixed in good time Phil!
It’s happening again isn’t it. Why the slowness BuzzJack, can’t you just load pages faster for a day without disruption.
The site is always slow for a while just after 2am. (I think Phil acknowledged this in the past and it was fixed for a while but then started happening again, it was just some quirk of server upkeep and not of any concern)
Does anyone else get the site just freezing as you click on things? Could be a Firefox error, but literally I can click on a forum or add a reply to a thread and the page just freezes. I have to close the tab and reopen
Same on safari - thought it was my wifi to be honest.
It's been playing up again quite a bit recently for me.
Took about 5 minutes to load just.
Had to go down when S Club listening party was starting ddd.
Really started lagging just froze when trying to post something.
Every time I try to do a mod function like merge or move posts, it seems to crash the entire site for 5 minutes. Any way of stopping this from happening?
Had a 404 error appearing for a while today.
Same thing here, I had a 404 error as well.
Was the forum a bit slow about an hour ago? I’ve just finished work and had to delete a fair few duplicate posts in the Kylie and Madonna forums.
It's been on and off for me for weeks.
Lag lag lag lag lag…
Two big lags for me today so far
Yeah this has been bad for me as well, there's been several times over the past 24 hours or so where the site has just refused to load simple pages.
Is it possible the lag might be caused by mod activities in Artist Forums in particular? It seems to happen when people do mod stuff in there but I've never had it while doing mod stuff myself...
Well that was unusual. Buzzjack logged me out and I couldn't remember my password for the life of me. I was in the middle of commenting on charts and it just came up with an error message. Managed to reset my password through my laptop but I'm just wondering if anyone else came across this issue today.
Is Buzzjack laggy for anyone else today? Just had a good 3-5 minute spell.
Edit: Later that day… “please someone do something about this laaaaaaaaaaaaaaag”
Every page seems to take a good 10-15 seconds to load for me the last few days. It's not my internet as no other website is having the same issues.
It's not like it all the time for me but I've also noticed occasional periods over the last few days where all pages take a few seconds to load (not quite 10-15 seconds I think, more like 5 seconds). Different to the usual lag pattern of the whole site going down for a couple of minutes every now and then but then being completely back to normal when it's back.
Over the past few days the website has also been taking a very long time to load for me as well. Sometimes only a segment of the page will actually show up and i'll have to refresh to see the full page
Out of curiosity, does anyone know exactly how many unique web pages that exist on www.buzzjack.com?
Web page loading for me after a minute a few times today.
PSA: if the forum is lagging and you've just submitted a post, please DON'T press "add reply" again, it will go through when the forum loads!!! It'll end up with double posts, triple posts or WORSE (the deletion of which could slow the forum down again, it's a vicious cycle x)
The server this week..
Never known it to lag so much
Horrendous lag for me all day today, sometimes taking well over a minute to load one page.
^ Literally coming to say the same, a minute at best for each page to load.
Yeah it's especially bad right now, and over 1700 guests viewing the site?
I have emailed Phil btw
What is going on
Yes it's being incredibly slow to do anything just now. An absolute pain in the arse. Is there anyway that Phil could see if the number of members/pages etc... are causing issues on the site and delete accounts that have been inactive for a certain period of time?
I think it must be the number of 'guests' viewing the site, I've been watching the number each time I've been able to load the front page and it increases by a few dozen every time. Idk if setting the site to members only would fix that? x
I have an inkling we are at the centre of a DDoS attack
I think we're suddenly back to being under 10 seconds of lag again now at least (unless I am jinxing it again now) x
^ Same for me.
I wasn't able to view Buzzjack without logging in just now. Has that happened to anyone else today?
Yup I changed that in the hope it'll reduce the number of guests viewing
We're down to 1375 guests now after peaking over 1800 so it seems like it might have worked, unless it's just coincidentally dropping now anyway.
There must be a thread somewhere that they’re targeting.
I remember we had like thousands of guests viewing the TV Forum Index years ago which slowed down the site and meant the thread has stayed quarantined in the Entertainment Mod Forum. RIP
The TV Forum Index has almost 750,000 views
I think the cursed thread is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - over 100,000 total views and 150 guests currently viewing
Probably more people than have seen the actual film
and a whole 4 replies, it must be that thread
It's now in the entertainment mod lounge, I'll leave Buzzjack guest-only for a day or so just to monitor the situation though. Things seem to be working normally for me currently anyway!
Still getting a variable few seconds of lag but that feels instant compared to how it was for a couple of hours earlier, I will not take this for granted :')
Yes it is a noticeable improvement. We're currently at 1417 guests, I suppose they are being counted even if they're stuck on the login page?
Back up to over 1500 guests and the site has slowed down considerably again.
It's not any worse for me since my last post in this thread!
It still takes a bit of time to load the pages, it should be pretty instant though, so there must be an issue somewhere. I do find it a bit straining at times, and it was pretty awful earlier around between 5 pm to 6 pm ish
It's about at the level it's been this weekend for me, slower than it should be but a lot better than earlier.
Not sure there's anything more I can do, it's up to Phil now!
If the guests are mostly bots then I imagine from my limited knowledge that they are programmed to keep refreshing pages so that they don’t get kicked off the forum and forced to sign up. I think it’s still possible to view what pages guests are clicking on by viewing the online list, but the fact the numbers have stayed over 1,000 for a long time is still concerning. I’m not sure what it was a year ago, maybe the Wayback Machine can tell us for example this time last year;
https://web.archive.org/web/20221003081613/http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/
A snapshot from September 2022 suggests just over 200 guests online.
2021 has a similar figure for this time of year just over 200 and I imagine it’s a recurring theme for many years prior too.
Had a look at what they were looking at, quite a number of guests were printing topics and searching. Spam attacks for sure when I searched up a few of the IP addresses.
I turned off guest searching for now because that's quite resource-intensive (and hey, if real guests want to search they can sign up) and banned a few IP ranges that were showing up constantly - I and the other admins can keep an eye on that activity and it should drop off if we continue doing that.
And as if by magic we're down to a mere 300 guests.
I spotted a guest 'printing a topic' in the online list the other day and honestly forgot that was even a feature on this site
Nice job Iz! I've allowed guests to view the forum again and we can monitor from here on in.
Printing a topic is a status? Actual printing? Explain someone please!
Not lagging the forum but 126 guests viewing the Box Office Charts thread in the movie forum right now
Has been a good few days now and the number of guests has remained manageable + the lag seems to be more or less gone so hooray it seems this worked.
It did seem to lag for me yesterday during the Buzzjack Friday Chart Show Thread.
Still lags for me tbh
Yes that still happens but that's a separate issue that's been going on for a lot longer (which I hypothesise is something to do with mod actions and more specifically artist forum mod actions but that's just speculation). I mean we seem to have eliminated the more recent issue of the site lagging constantly between every page load as opposed to just occasional periods of the site dying for a minute or two then going back to normal.
it took 5 minutes for a post to show up but i think it's fixed now
Yes it's just back to how it was before, the occasional period of lag but nowhere near what it was last weekend.
not me getting paranoid that my personal chart thread got locked because it was causing lag 😵💫
The "today's active topics" link is still not usable for guests even though the other restrictions have been lifted. Was that intentional or can it be changed?
I think that link uses the search feature (as does 'view new posts', which may or may not be the exact same thing)
Finding some lag this afternoon but seems ok as I type this now with around 300 guests online. Not sure that’s the cause though.
300 is about normal!
Is anyone else finding that links are loading slightly slower than usual, it’s not really a lagging issue as such, but maybe something causing delays to load graphics perhaps? It’s not terrible in that it’s disruptive, but there is a subtle extra second delay than usual to open all pages on the forum.
I noticed it yesterday too, seems okay this morning but obviously it's a bit quieter at this time in the morning. Shouldn't be graphics related because the page itself is taking time to load!
