Who would you nominate as an artist who has made an effort to put out new music in 2020 but hasn’t had the chart success they were expecting or that perhaps they deserved to have?
I would start this thread with Ella Henderson, she’s had two lead singles fail to reach the Top 40 this year; Take Care Of You and Dream On Me with Roger Sanchez, and an uncredited feature on a Nathan Dawe’s top 5 hit Lighter. Her only real success was with Jax Jones at the start of the year when she broke into the Top 10 with This Is Real which was released in 2019.
Who else would you like to give a shoutout to for their contributions to music in 2020?
Ella is so underrated these days especially on her lead artist tracks.
I wasn't a massive fan of it, but it would have been nice to see Fleur East's album at least make the top 100
Arlo Parks, both Black Dog and Hurt are incredible
Grace Carter. Not that she's released much this year (just the one single I think) but I really thought she'd have a big 2020.
Otherwise I'd go for Rina Sawayama, Kiesza (who continues to be one of the most under-rated singers ever) and The Lottery Winners.
Melanie C, her singles not even charting on the top 100 is so sad. Who I am is genuinely one of my favourite songs in years.
I still can’t believe Sam Fender hasn’t had a decent sized hit yet!
Celeste is another name I will throw into the mix, she won the Brit Award for Rising Star of 2020, but she hasn’t had a Top 40 single yet.
Strange is the song that should have smashed in my opinion.
Rina Sawayama 100%
Rina, Ella Henderson, GRACEY
Jessie Ware
Zara Larsson.
I know I’m obviously biased but her performances and presence is insane, she’s just got horrendous labels.
Even if you’re not a fan of a song, the fact she slayed just a video in a square, if any main pop girl did this
She can’t even go top 100 now.
Kylie Minogue
Melanie C
Jessie Ware,
A lot of my fave artists of the year didn't and never will have major chart success but I guess I'll say Everything Everything for having a big step back from the chart relevance of even their last album despite putting out imo their best music to date ~
Also Hayley Williams, it sucks that not even one of her solo songs caught on (Paramore had a hit single from their last album so it wasn't impossible!) and the album was limited to one week of moderately ok sales.
Hayley's album is brilliant, agree
WOW is just so bad song. I think a melodic pop banger would do justice for her. Maybe she will participate Melodifestivalen?
I'm not a fan of Let's Love but I'm surprised no one said David Guetta and Sia.
Along with the mention of Ella Henderson already.. I would say James Bay. 'Chew On My Heart' is literally the best thing he's ever put out and unfortunately wasn't supported very well at all. It's a shame because not always are artists done forever just from a floppy 2nd era.
James Bay 100%, Hayley Williams 100%, also Bastille have released two great songs this year and had no success
Raleigh Ritchie didn’t even make top 100 with his new album.
Oh yes I had forgotten about James Bay, I was really hoping for Chew On My Heart to take off too.
OneRepublic are another artist that failed to crack the Top 40 this year, even with a Kygo feature. I don’t see them having a Top 40 single again unfortunately.
CamelPhat really deserved more proper hit singles with Rabbit Hole and Hypercolour and a top ten album.
Kylie & Mel C for sure!
Katy Perry.
Smile the album and Daisies deserved better. She’s still successful but she was much more successful with much worse material.
Victoria Monét 'Experience' so slept on despite being on the Radio 1 playlist. In an ideal world it was a summer smash!
Harry Styles.
It's not a joke.
So great chart run for his second album but only Top-3 as his best for it.
Just a little off-top. Just knew last week that PF's The Dark Side Of The Moon never been Number 1 album. What a suprise.
