Id say alot of Brooks televotes came from Northern Ireland but hopefully it gets her some sales as i just love the song and i still think it was one of better songs and performances in this years contest and i havent been able to say that about an Irish entry for a long time. For me it was among the top 10 best songs this year but obviously most others dont agree.

I wanted this to qualify SO BADLY. I really love it, and big pop-girl anthems were sorely missed in the final this year (which was, of course, not a problem for Spain!)

I was the same and i still think it deserved to qualify but the final was missing the upbeat songs, it was too ballad heavy this year and Brooke in the middle of a few ballads would have helped. While i had thought Ireland would qualify i wasnt expecting it to do huge in the final. Hard to know how Ireland will tackle next years entry, Linda Martin keeps going on about entering ballads but i think Linda still believes a song like why me could win in todays Eurovision which it clearly wouldnt.

What do you guys think of qualification if we sent Lyra with a good song?

Ireland need to send something with Irish flair that stands out their entries are far too muted or generic. I liked Maps but it was a mess on stage. I liked Brooke but the song wasn’t right. At least Jedward were memorable but it’s tragic they are Ireland’s best result for 20 years. Lyra has a great voice but I honestly don’t know if she would qualify.

I totally agree about Maps and That's Rich.
I wouldn't say Maps was generic. It had plenty of comments saying that it sounded Irish. I saw people mention The Corrs and even the Cranberries. Lyra would need to have a stunning song like De Diepte or City Lights but I think Lyra could do well. This post has been edited by Colm: 15th October 2022, 11:21 AM |

Lyra has that stand out ability and is prob an artist that would either do brilliant at eurovision or totally flop.
For me I do get that's rich might have been a little generic as a song but I loved it and I still think Brooke should have qualified and she nailed her performance. |

She did as much as she could. I never liked the song. It was still the best of an awful selection of choices.

Ireland, as I see it, have at least two routes to possible success.
1. Send something with an Irish traditional sound or influence. I know it didn't work for Dervish, but the vocal on that was terrible live, and juries weren't back in then, I'm sure some of them would have helped it out - in fact, didn't all of its few points come from a backup jury that was being used in Albania? Something traditional, or better yet contemporary but incorporating traditional elements would be so brilliant and I'm sure the juries would be won over, and probably the public too if done right. 2. Take a chance on a popular/emerging artist, and select them internally so they'll actually do it and don't have the chance of being beaten by something else hyped to the hilt in another average national final. I'm sure if they were asked internally, someone rising and starting to break outside Ireland but not internationally yet, like Cian Ducrot, might be up for it? Sure there's the risk of falling out in the semis, but it's pretty rare that professional, competent performers with great compositions that have international appeal do fall at that stage, so it's up to them to make the most of the opportunity. With the right moment and song, their career could go stratospheric. |

Talos will be a good shout. Also why not FLAVIA?
We need a banger like this! |
