Welp I hope I don't sound too negative here, but the news have been all over the last few days about people getting called up to the army in case of a war with R*ssia, with news sources citing the timeframe to be within 20 years. I hope this never happens and is something being blown way out of proportion.
The jokes I see all over social media (mainly TikTok) joking about being called up to the army are absolutely hilarious though

I doubt it’ll happen but if it does I believe I’d be exempt anyway for having coeliacs and autism at least.

Just reads like clickbait to me, wouldn't even be a consideration unless Russia actually invades a NATO country, which I still believe is being exaggerated right now. I don't want to rule anything out, not sure many would've predicted a deadly global pandemic happening in their lifetime, but speculation at this point is useless.

I would say there would be plenty of doctors letters coming in for a world war in 2024 �� compared to the early part of the 20th century. Mine being one of them!!

Highly unlikely that any conscription could work in the modern day, this story is... just baseless posturing for the consumption of Telegraph-reading zombie pensioners slavering away at the thought of just one more war to make the yoofs sit up and 'get a taste of real hard grift'. Just look at Ukraine, a state literally being invaded and even then, while males aren't allowed to leave the country in case, they aren't throwing people who don't want to be there at the enemy - those sorts are a liability in a front line.
Far more likely that anyone who isn't suitable for fighting ends up on a production line somewhere and even that is only in the event of 'total war', which is insanely unlikely to ever happen to the UK in a distant war against Russia. And that's not even touching the unlikeliness of the war itself. |

I got a letter from the government the other day I opened and read it, it said they were suckers They wanted me for their army or whatever Picture me givin' a damn, I said, "Never" Serious - the wars that have been fought by this country - Iraq, Afghanistan, probably get us to join Israel in their genocide if they had their way. I do sometimes think that there may be a civil war in the USA between far rights and progressives/woke and there maybe some minor kind of mirror in the UK. Certainly don't think can rule out anything in these times. |
