Fifth Harmony's New Deal: Quartet Re-Ups With Epic After Camila Cabello's Exit: Exclusive

Now a foursome, the label has exercised its option for a third full-length album, Billboard has confirmed.

The group Fifth Harmony splintered over the Christmas holiday, announcing on Dec. 19 that founding member Camilla Cabello, 19, was leaving the group to pursue a solo career and that the four remaining girls -- Ally Brooke, 23, Normani Kordei, 20, Dinah Jane, 19, and Lauren Jauregui, 20 -- will continue on as a four-piece. Three days later, Epic Records and Syco exercised their option on the pop act, Billboard has confirmed, moving full-steam ahead with a third Fifth Harmony album to be released in 2017. Cabello, meanwhile, is expected to drop her first single -- after appearing alongside Shawn Mendes and Machine Gun Kelly on two Hot 100 top 20 hits -- in April or May.

After selling 7 million U.S. digital downloads and nearly half-a-million albums (according to Nielsen Music), scoring a top five Billboard Hot 100 hit ("Work from Home” in 2016) and racking 1.6 billion U.S. on-demand streams in a career launched on Fox's The X Factor in 2012, Fifth Harmony has reached the sort of career milestone that graduates of reality shows rarely see. “There’s a stigma attached to a reality show that they have eclipsed,” says Joe Willis, longtime manager of American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. “That Fifth Harmony has been able to build their fan base, as One Direction did, was a masterstroke by Simon Cowell.”

And success provided the act the leverage to renegotiate what is typically an onerous contract -- signed by the girls as individuals before even stepping foot on the TV stage that would give them their Cowell-constructed shot -- with terms that dictate a length of seven years and assign them to specific companies and affiliates within the Sony Music system. (Syco Entertainment is a joint venture with Sony.)

“The standard contract is worse than a 360 nightmare,” explains Loeb & Loeb attorney Debra White, who negotiates similar deals for contestants of NBC's The Voice, adding that a company like the Cowell-founded Syco Entertainment "gets to be the record company, the publisher, the manager, they have a piece of touring and merchandise." Re-signing allows for a re-evaluation and offers an opportunity to diminish or eliminate terms that seem unfair to an artist who has had hits and brought the label revenue. According to a source, negotiations are ongoing, with the Fifth Harmony members having already reclaimed ownership of their trademark. Adds White: “If it were me, I would want a higher royalty rate; I would try to get all of the ancillaries uncrossed and limit the amount of product and length of the contract. I would also fight hard to increase the committed money for marketing and promotion, and creative approval.”

Representatives for Fifth Harmony would not comment beyond affirming that “Epic has in fact exercised their deal option with Fifth Harmony,” but a source in the camp says staying put is a win-win. (The group shared its first official photo as a quartet on Jan. 5, below.)

“They’re in a position to have more creative involvement and really direct where they want their music to go,” the insider offers. “They're a huge name on the Epic roster so it makes sense to keep them there and work on another hit album. While, at the same time it benefits the girls to stay as well and really own the direction they're going in rather than litigate themselves out of a deal.”

Another label source says Epic Records chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid “Doesn't ‘let go’ of successful artists -- ever. He even has a hard time parting with the unsuccessful ones.”

As for Cowell, a rep assures that he has remained "committed as ever to the group he envisioned."

The girls' contentious division -- made all the more awkward with both Fifth Harmony and Cabello signed to the same label and working on music separately but at the same time -- shouldn’t worry fans, either, says White. “It proves that Epic/Syco is really believing in the brand, and they don't give a shit if it's Fourth or Fifth Harmony. They’re going to find amazing songs and make a go of it.”

I'm surprised no one had posted a topic about this. I know there is a fair bit of criticism for the group generally on this site with just as much interest in them but I am ridiculously excited for what is coming wub.gif more Flex's and Squeeze's and I need some ballads! What does everyone else want to hear from 5H3?

Posted by: mr_pmt Jan 9 2017, 09:33 PM

I was fairly sure they'd implode after the whole Camila fiasco, although on the one hand maybe they'll now thrive as a group (with chemistry) without the egomaniac.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 9 2017, 09:56 PM

Tbh, I think Camila will be better off without them and I can honestly see it working for them without her too, so I'm hopeful. However, I was watching some video about them shading and getting angry with one another or something yesterday and it was not good! You really wouldn't believe they were a group. But ehhhh... just give us some more 'Work From Home' type bangers and we're set tbh.

Posted by: ___∆___ Jan 10 2017, 02:47 AM

I think as a group they are a bit of a disaster TBH, they seem to basically hate each other and am sure they are all waiting for their time to shine as solo artists.

They also need some consistency in order to shift some albums - they seem to release a banger followed by a few flops before the era is over.

Posted by: Jonjo Jan 19 2017, 02:39 PM

First performance without Camila.

Still seem sloppy to me. Although the last 10 seconds dance breakdown was good. I'd like to think they could work as a 4 piece, but I still get the feeling there's some tension in the group. But I dunno. Maybe that's just me laugh.gif

Posted by: Cameron Jan 19 2017, 02:42 PM

I think it is obvious that Ally is going to be the new Camila in terms of being hated by the band. They really need to get a vocal coach because their solo parts were awful

Posted by: Juliano Jan 19 2017, 04:14 PM

I thought they rocked it, I prefer them like this and the new beginning was great.

Posted by: Hayzayy Jan 19 2017, 06:10 PM

Oops

Posted by: Tinasha Jan 19 2017, 06:18 PM

Some dodgy vocal moments but I'm quite impressed.

Posted by: travis Jan 19 2017, 06:32 PM

I honestly really enjoyed the performance as a 4-piece! Sure there's definitely room for improvement, but the look of having no visual center actually works well for them. I just need them to push at least one more song from 7/27 while they're working on 5H3. I know they have takes of the other girls doing the parts Camila ended up with, and even if they didn't, re-recording a few lines for a single mix wouldn't be extremely difficult. Hell, they could have the girls go in and just redo the album's singles and 1-2 older singles as a 4-piece and put it out as a "tour edition" of 7/27 for their shows coming up in Texas and Asia to extend the album's life a bit while they prepare for their next era. It just seems so wasteful to not piggyback on the attention they got from Camila leaving.

Posted by: DiamondHeart Jan 19 2017, 07:02 PM

Loved the performance!

Posted by: Cody Slayberry Jan 19 2017, 07:09 PM

Lauren sounds so much better singing Camila's part tongue.gif

Posted by: troylovesmusic Jan 19 2017, 07:17 PM

They weren't perfect but they look a lot cleaner and tighter as a four piece ! it was decent I think they will be just fine without Camila.

Posted by: SeanGrey Jan 19 2017, 07:36 PM

I loved that performance by no means was it amazing but it was pretty decent wub.gif

Posted by: Hayzayy Jan 20 2017, 07:15 PM

The performance as a four piece group was amazing, and Lauren is EVERYTHING wub.gif

Posted by: SeanGrey Jul 6 2017, 01:08 PM

Interesting that they appear to be writing on this album - I'm not expecting anything they've written to make the album after what they said about 7/27 such as Max Martin involvement and their writing involvement which neither materialised.

Posted by: UltraRedLight Jul 24 2017, 11:07 PM

25th August

Self-titled by the looks of it!

Posted by: Saenerys Jul 25 2017, 05:42 AM

I am so rooting for this. I hope they're in the U.K. on release day like they were for 7/27 and can do some promo over here!

Yep selfi titled confirmed by Jimmy Fallon! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9IrwRnC1lco & Ally screaming about it on her story laugh.gif

Posted by: *Tim Jul 25 2017, 09:11 AM

They better release a KILLER 2nd single this friday then ohmy.gif

Posted by: Cameron Jul 25 2017, 09:43 AM

This is sounding to be like it's going to be their final album just by calling it 'Fifth Harmony' sad.gif

Posted by: Juliano Jul 25 2017, 10:45 AM

Great performance, sad about the name!

Posted by: lewistgreen Jul 25 2017, 11:20 AM

I've always thought self-titled albums are more suited to a debut as more of an introduction to the band. 'Down' hasn't massively impressed me so far. I mean, it's good, but it just sounds like a rehash of Work From Home. Here's hoping we get a more interesting next single!

Posted by: Saenerys Jul 25 2017, 12:01 PM

Other than a feature or two they wouldn't do anything beyond the group so it's within their interests to continue after the album. It's obvious they're getting on SO much better without Camila - they actually look like they're enjoying themselves!!! That said I know Down hasn't met a lot of expectations on here but the album is yet to come!

Posted by: 360Jupiter Jul 25 2017, 12:40 PM

Not sure how I feel about the title. Good that they're claiming the name as a statement of confidence, but at the same time, it does bring back associations with '5' at exactly the time they're trying to move forward as a 4-piece.

I think they'll be fine - I know these groups didn't have members leave and impact the title of the groups but 1D and 5SOS don't have the number in their title correlating to members.

Posted by: pippa Jul 25 2017, 01:51 PM

The album wont do any major business. Their last album had some big hits and it didnt set the charts on fire with sales. I have no doubt this album will struggle to sell 30,000 in its first 2-3 months of release.

I don't think they're in it to do major business by seeing albums - other than being the biggest USA girl group and being a selling singles artist, they do reasonable sized tours and have plenty of endorsements and solo ventures to bring in some extra dollar at Epic.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Jul 25 2017, 03:24 PM

Reasonable sized tours? I've never seen The O2 Arena so empty.

I wasn't referring to the number of attendees at a particular venue I meant on the whole they've done a fair few countries and gone beyond their home territory.

Posted by: Tombo Jul 25 2017, 03:46 PM

They should have become 4th Harmony and called it 4th Harmony!

I don't think self-titled necessarily means it is the end though as some have said above

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Jul 25 2017, 03:51 PM

Does the performance of 'Down' not set alarm bells ringing with regards to their future? I mean, they could easily claw it back but it's a bit of a worrying sign for them I think.

Yeah but they're massive, I'm sure that even if they were dropped then they would get another deal from another label as they have a got a strong brand.

Posted by: Juliano Jul 31 2017, 05:52 AM

Definitely ready for the Skrillex & Poo Bear track, if "Would You Ever" is anything to go by, I can imagine that sound suiting them so well!

Posted by: UltraRedLight Aug 7 2017, 02:39 PM

Supposedly the album cover:

Posted by: Saenerys Aug 7 2017, 06:46 PM

Sam where did you find that? That's HORRIFIC. Looks like the product of a Piece by Piece and Melodrama mash up drama.gif

Posted by: Davidson Aug 7 2017, 06:54 PM

Everything about this era has been handled so dreadfully that I kinda hope that is actually the cover to go with the theme of the era laugh.gif

I can't believe they haven't even thought about putting out a 2nd single and are going ahead with a release date of this month. With the right material they could have had such a successful era but the way it's looking, this is gonna flop horribly and kill the careers they were just beginning to properly build up.

Posted by: Liаm Aug 7 2017, 07:01 PM

LMAOOOOOOOO WTF IS THAT

I actually like Piece By Piece's cover, that's just like a garish version of it, it's SO ugly :/ I agree with Davidson, this is such a mess of an era already, Down hasn't done that well which is a shame for them, if they don't have anything better up their sleeves to move on from that swiftly or try as a promo single they can keep the album! laugh.gif

I warmed to it as well and visually enjoy a non digital version but even the editing and layering of this is awful!

Tracklist so far (being released on the girls instagram story)

1. Down (ft Gucci Mane)
2. He Like That
3. Sauced Up

Posted by: Saenerys Aug 9 2017, 01:50 PM

Full tracklist:

1. Down (ft. Gucci Mane)
2. He Like That
3. Sauced Up
4. Make You Mad
5. Deliver
6. Lonely Night
7. Don't Say You Love Me
8. Angel
9. Messy
10. Bridges

On the whole some very interested titles to contrast with the titles of the tracks on the previous two albums and EP thinking.gif Obviously we've not heard any of these but based on title alone my expectations will be "He Like That" to be in the same vein as "Them Girls Be Like", Don't Say You Love Me sounds like it could be a ballad/mid temp and Bridges....potentially a track about them becoming a four piece? Who knows, I'm enjoying speculation laugh.gif

Posted by: HausofSZA Aug 9 2017, 04:52 PM

'messy bridges'... is that going to describe the structure of most of the songs on this album? basil.gif

Posted by: mdh Aug 9 2017, 04:54 PM

this will either flop massively or produce a top 3 single out of nowhere - there's no inbetween

I think they'll be fine. I remember Hurricane saying ages ago that girl bands take a few crap/under performing singles and then have a stomping hit eventually so I'm hoping they can do the same this time round. Bo$$ and Sledgehammer were complete snoozes comparison to what came next and I know that was before they were a bigger international act or whatever but still, all isn't lost at this stage!

Posted by: Liаm Aug 10 2017, 01:18 PM

Angel is out presumably as an instant grat. It's even worse than Down laugh.gif At least was a lowkey bop, this is very beige and has that Soundcloud rapper trap beat sound going on :/

Posted by: UltraRedLight Aug 10 2017, 01:20 PM

Angel is weak af, really losing most of my hype for this album sad.gif

(Also eek at that album cover turning out to be real.)

"So, the band's called Fifth Harmony? Okay, how about we put the four girls in a square on the cover, that seems to fit their name and brand."

Posted by: troylovesmusic Aug 10 2017, 03:41 PM

Well I really like Angel it's a Bop I like the sound there going for on this album !

Posted by: Neil Aug 10 2017, 07:52 PM

I don't think Angel is too bad but some of the production just sounds like noise to me.

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 10 2017, 09:51 PM

'Angel' is really forgettable. sad.gif

FFS. I was routing for them to bring it, but it's all just been underwhelming (even if I have grown to adore 'Down'!)

Posted by: Kye Aug 10 2017, 10:00 PM

I really need them to find.a.chorus. or at least a hook.
repeating a word or a phrase, and not a particularly catchy one, does not maketh a chorus. I'm sick of the one-word chorus/hooks now, it's tired. they had some great ones on 7/27.

i think the label think the repeating chant is a winning formula for them but it's not. move on.

Posted by: Cameron Aug 11 2017, 01:07 AM

Legit sounds like they wanted to work with Tinashe again after That's My Girl so they stole one of her old mixtape demos

Posted by: Juliano Aug 11 2017, 01:58 AM

I do like Angel as an album track. Definitely not rushing back to have it on repeat, but I don't dislike it. Would make nice background noise in my apartment.

Posted by: Saenerys Aug 11 2017, 06:11 AM

Definitely isn't as instant as some of their other stuff. Ally on this track though huh.gif huh.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen Aug 11 2017, 01:52 PM

Posted by: Atonement Aug 11 2017, 02:58 PM

omg they're such a mess. they needed to bring it after that girl left but they clearly didn't...

The 'Angel' video sucks. The song is not that bad but not something one should release as a single.

It's not a single just a promo track for the album which is out in a few weeks and they've just done a video for it (like they done with Write On Me for 7/27) .

Their first two albums tanked, period. They didn't really do the business in the US either.

This all screams "ok, let's get this over with so we can drop you".

I like Angel more than Down, ish, but yeah, we'll see how the album campaign goes. So far they seem to be sexing them up more but I'm not sure who that's for, crossover appeal maybe?

They're clearly putting all the money into Camila.

Posted by: 360Jupiter Aug 14 2017, 11:41 AM

It is pretty unfortunate implications.

A major selling point of Fifth Harmony was that they were five girls with different body shapes; now, as soon as there's tension and instability within the band, the label signs the most conventionally attractive member for a solo deal and focuses a lot of money and attention on her career.

Still, I'll not write them off yet, the new sound might see them picking up new fans and a new direction. This was a slightly risky direction to take them in and risks can go either way, good as well as bad.

What has the girls physical appearance got to do with their selling point when there is so much difference about them i.e. vocally, background, their musical styles, etc?

Posted by: troylovesmusic Aug 14 2017, 04:46 PM

Anyone listened to that interview? I feel bad for them in that he really shouldn't have pushed for those questions when he'd probably see that it's making them uncomfortable/they didn't want to talk about it. However, I do feel like they could've handled it better than they did. Instead of whispering and being shady about it. They could've just said something like "we wish her the best, but we're here to talk about our music" or something.

Posted by: Juliano Aug 21 2017, 06:49 PM

So snippets of this leaked and to be it sound like their strongest effort to date. A few potential single choices, He Like That is slightly underwhelming from the snippet. Make You Mad, Lonely Night, Don't Say You Love Me (This albums Scared Of Happy/No More Sad Songs) and Messy sound promising. Sauced Up sounds like an obvious single choice to me. But DELIVER though. It sounds like it WILL Deliver!

Why push it back so it can do the same if not worse in a month or so.

The record label don't seem behind this so I suspect 4/Fifths Harmony to be dropped and split by the end of the year.

Posted by: Jack Aug 23 2017, 11:46 AM

I can't believe they're releasing this with not even a Top 40 single to their name behind it. I don't think the album will even go Top 20, it's going to really struggle.

This album is their 'Salute', a really listenable album but not single material. They will flop and fade away, it's a shame how bad things have been manage with this album, I think that there were a few options to keep them growing and with decent hits.

Anyway ... READY FOR LAUREN's SOLO ALBUM HERE!!

I don't understand why they keep pushing the band so hard after Camilla's leaving but they haven't recorded strong songs and singles.. And not having now a new single out for the release of the album ...

It's all very bland isn't it, such a come down from the amazing 7/27 sad.gif

Posted by: Andrew. Aug 24 2017, 11:54 PM

On first listen:

10 Down
06 He Like That
10 Sauced Up
08 Make You Mad
04 Deliver
06 Lonely Night
03 Don't Say You Love Me
07 Angel
05 Messy
04 Bridges

Such a big comedown from 7/27 sad.gif Sauced Up and Make You Mad are the only new songs that particularly stand out to me, I actually love 'Down' tbh though, it's basic af but so irresistible *.*

Sauced Up though.

My favourite gif of the year. Thank you.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Aug 25 2017, 12:11 AM

Ok so i'm REALLY enjoying this album on first listen probably there best album for me IMO ! I love how mature the whole thing is and the vibe they have gone for. My initial favourites are :

'Sauced Up'
'Deliver' (LOVE this one such an old school Rnb vibe)
Don't Say You Love Me
He Like That
Make Me Mad

Posted by: Martyn Aug 25 2017, 12:16 AM

A lot of the songs have the same beat and tempo.

Posted by: all is vanity. Aug 25 2017, 08:10 AM

Sauced Up and Deliver. cheer.gif

Posted by: *Tim Aug 25 2017, 08:34 AM

They actually released this ?!?!

Posted by: StillJupiter Aug 25 2017, 08:37 AM

Make Me Mad is my early album track highlight.

When 'Down' is a standout of your album you have to worry a bit.

Posted by: Cremey Aug 25 2017, 09:46 AM

This is all so basic.

Posted by: Lewisgt Aug 25 2017, 10:41 AM

I enjoyed listening to this but none of the tracks really stood out. Angel is my favourite at the moment. I'll still give it another go.

Posted by: Juliano Aug 25 2017, 12:27 PM

So far enjoying this album a lot actually. Sauced Up, Make You Mad and Deliver are strongest to me. Make You Mad is clearly the I Lied of the album.

Posted by: Davidson Aug 25 2017, 01:37 PM

First listen rate:

-01.0 Down
06.0 He's Like That
08.0 Sauced Up
06.5 Make You Mad
07.5 Deliver
05.0 Lonely Night
08.0 Don't Say You Love Me
07.0 Angel
06.0 Messy
07.0 Bridges

I was expecting this to be an absolute mess from the awful single choices and the clear 0.50p budget they spent on the promo and the cover combined, but it isn't actually that bad. It still does sound a bit thrown together at last minute and cheap, but it is actually an alright listen. It does lack character and personality but most of the tracks are pretty catchy and listenable for sure.

They really done this era wrong singles wise. They should have led with 'Sauced Up' and had 'Deliver' and 'Don't Say You Love Me' as follow ups. None of them would have been as big as 7/27 singles granted, but I feel like they would have done better than 'Down' and 'Angel' by a mile.

Overall, I would give the album a 6/10. Not bad considering I was expecting 3/10 and they have never really been an album artist anyway.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Aug 26 2017, 12:15 AM

I'm SLAYED probably one of there best videos ever tbh !

Posted by: Juliano Aug 26 2017, 12:21 AM

WOW! That is a VIDEO.

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel Aug 26 2017, 08:41 AM

VERY POOR ALBUM. Everything's so boring and bland and I agree with the above it's shocking that 'Down' is the only song that had potential.

The new video is good but I actually turned off halfway through because the song sounds so monotone the whole way through.

I didn't think Camilla leaving would have this big of an impact they sound so bland without her vocals.

Posted by: Tombo Aug 26 2017, 09:41 AM

It is a bit bland, I will listen again to some of the tracks probably.

I like down a bit but it is quite basic.

This could be the final nail in the coffin

And to the person above who said they have 3 hits from the last era laugh.gif

One hit and then some flop follow up singles is a more realistic portayal

Posted by: Davidson Aug 26 2017, 10:55 AM

The video has sold me on 'He Like That'. Such a grower, it is just so infectious.

Posted by: Catherine91 Aug 26 2017, 11:19 AM

I was pleasantly surprised when I streamed this album for the first time. I've bought 5 of the tracks. I think an album like this would also suit Little Mix!

I think it would sound better if Camila was on it, though. Ally sounds like her in He Like That!

Posted by: billy. Aug 26 2017, 11:47 AM

I'm surprised that this is getting positive reviews as I think it's lacking everywhere - cringey lyrics/subject matter, no personality and just very generic. I do think they have potential tho, so hopefully they get another album to prove themselves with.

Posted by: Juliano Aug 26 2017, 12:10 PM

I don't think it's as good as Reflection, but I like it more than 7/27. Loving Make You Mad most at the moment, found I was singing Lonely Night a lot at work yesterday.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Aug 26 2017, 12:16 PM

I'm not getting the hate for the album on here tbh . I'm actually really enjoying it apart from 1 or 2 tracks that are definitely filler. The rest is really good for me and I've been bopping a lot to it . I also don't see why some people think they will be over after this album ? There still one of the most popular groups out atm, for example the 'He Like That Video' already has over 2 million views after being out for a few hours and there peforming at the VMA's Sunday which most artists would kill to perform at .

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel Aug 26 2017, 02:27 PM

It's so bland though sad.gif

I keep trying and it's so generic and not at all catchy.

The past two albums had so much more potential Work From Home, Flex, That's My Girl and even Write On Me are all so much better than anything on this album.

I think its the lack of Camilla's tone sad.gif

I think it's obvious no one cares for this album with 'He Like That' not even top 100 on iTunes after the video premiere.

Posted by: Liаm Aug 26 2017, 02:51 PM

I agree, Camila is I think what's really missing for me. The rest just don't have distinctive or interesting voices, Camila anchored them and broke that up a bit. From the few I've heard on this album, it's just really boring and samey, it's like 4 clones of the same person singing some bland R&B lite that would get average reviews on any given blog. There's no personality or oomph to it, virtually anyone could release it.

Posted by: danG Aug 26 2017, 02:57 PM

the album's supposedly set to miss the top 10 (says Mint Royale), I can't say I'm surprised though as it really does seem like the label are giving all the good songs to Camila.

Posted by: Saenerys Aug 27 2017, 06:29 PM

I've been away for the last week so I've not been able to listen to the album. Just listened to He Like That and the video is so good! Why couldn't they have swapped videos with Down for that? sad.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn Aug 27 2017, 06:38 PM

In the UK if you look at their chart performance from Worth It to That's My Girl it's pretty decent when you factor in the level of support they've had. I agree, I don't think it is that bad given they've never really had a massive platform to launch on over here in the UK other than two big promo slots on BGT and X-Factor for Boss and Work From Home.

Worth It - #3 - Certified Gold
Work From Home - #2 - Certified 2x platinum
All In My Head Flex - #25 - Certified Silver
That's My Girl - #26 - Certified Silver

Obviously certifications and sales aren't everything but Down's under performance has ruined their half decent streak they had going of having a few top 40 hits.

Posted by: Saenerys Aug 27 2017, 08:12 PM

So my verdict. 1.Down is pretty basic but I've really grown to like it! So the rest of the album on first listen:

2. He Like That - I really loved the video and it was an improvement on the Angel and Down videos. Definitely can see this growing to me!

3. Sauced Up - pretty forgetable by the time I got to Make You Mad

4. Make You Mad - Loving this one on first listen!!!!!

5. Deliver - sounds a bit dated but when that chorus comes in and the beat comes in too, it's pretty decent!

6. Lonely Night - pleasant but I can't see myself coming back to it as also pretty forgetable

7. Don't Say You Love Me - love a midtempo and Ally sounds fantastic on this!

8. Angel - definitely wasn't a fan of this on first listen when it was released with the promo vid but it fits so much better in the context of the album

9. Messy - sounds very similar to Gonna Get Better from 7/27 which I wasn't a fan of. Does it have lyrics from Wasn't Me by Shaggy??? huh.gif something about a bathroom floor?

10. Bridges - DRAG TRUMP cheer.gif wub.gif the girls sound fantastic on this, lovely album closer!

Overall for first impressions it doesn't come close to beating 7/27 which is my favourite girl group album since Headlines, but I am disappointed that there has been a huge lack of overall promotion.

I can't see any of them breaking through as solo artists. At least not to the extent of Camila. Normani has potential but I don't think she will fulfil that potential on a commercial scale. Lauren I have a feeling could be the dark horse though. She seems to have quite a following. But yeah, ultimately none of them will be quite Camila levels of popularity.

It's from the Sun and they've just had a fallout with Dan Wootton a few weeks ago who more than likely wrote this so I'm pretty sure it's not true lol. Them seem very happy and content as a group now watching interviews from them so I can't see them splitting up anytime soon.

Yeah they've been doing solo projects for a while now but there main focus is with the group they've said that a few times in interviews . I could maybe seem them possibly parting ways with Epic and going to another label as they've said that they weren't happy with the way they were managed and wanted more freedom (which they said they got with this current Album) but I can't seem being dropped or splitting up. Also like I said the Article was written by Dan Wotton who had a public falling out with them a few weeks ago so it's probably a load of nonsense laugh.gif

Exactly it means nothing who can spam tweet the most or whatever if the album sales are catastrophic laugh.gif

I think with Camila she's got great material mostly, her songs have varied to show different sides of her but they're all really current and appealing, Havana is quite different too and really stands out. You can tell she's got great writers and producers behind her and they really want to launch her in the best way possible, whereas with 5H this album just all sounds kinda the same, and a few of the songs sound like they've grabbed a random instrumental from SoundCloud and chucked their vocals on it laugh.gif I annot believe Skrillex and Poo Bear produced Angel drama.gif They've got some decent names on writing and production but the material just isn't up to scratch imo.

Yeah they're not coming back laugh.gif It's a bit annoying that they all seemed to hate Camila for having solo ambitions yet they all jump off the ship to go solo as soon as it starts sinking, I can only see Normani having any success really, she'll probably be the Kelly Rowland to Camila's Beyonce (both on a lower scale ofc). Lauren might have a hit or two and the others I see no hope for. I mean if you look at 1D even, they're hardly smashing it as solo artists so if people weren't there for the girls together once Camila left, I really can't see how they'll be here for all of them separately.

Gahhh. QUIT WITH THE "HIATUS" BULLSHIT. Just say you've split fgs! Lmao. Really bugs me when bands use hiatus instead of split to pretend that everything is better than it actually is laugh.gif

But no surprise. I am surprised that it's taken 3 albums as I was certain they'd be dropped sooner. So well done to them! They're lucky that 'Work From Home' happened and it was for them tbh. laugh.gif

Sugababes 4.0 and The Saturdays are just totally on hiatus though x

if i'm gonna be completely honest I liked He Like That more so that was their high

I'm kinda sad about it but I kinda knew this was coming especially after their last campaign was a disaster and this dumb feud between Camila's fanbase and their fans has only hurt them. It's just gonna suck because now all the Camilizers are gonna act all vindictive and be bigger assholes than the Harmonizers were

Shocker as five-piece girl group who originally all wanted to be solo artists still would prefer to be solo artists.

'He Like That' came after but tbh, that's their 2nd best song after WFH.

P. S. In light of this news, would anybody be willing to hold a singles rates for them? Just throwing the idea out there to see if there's interest, then I'll speak to Cam and Sam and see what they think if we can find a host.

Well, Fifth DisHarmony could've always done a horror-style reality show where they just ended up killing each other off on some remote island while being filmed... literally.

The winner would've gotten the electric chair and a #1 hit single pirate.gif

Feel free to start it when you're ready. It's been next on the list for a while and with the girl group thing finished, we could do with it.

Edit: Oops missed that SGrey also asked! So maybe co-host together or something/work something out between yourselves tongue.gif

their goodbye video. Actually quite emotional despite not being a massive fan of them as I was during their first 2 eras.
The lowkey shade of Ally being the last to leave the room though, who was probably the most committed to the band and came across as genuinely lovely

Not really shade as she ends the song ? tongue.gif But anyway this was cute I’m glad my favourite song from there 3rd Album got a video.

Posted by: ſnlᴉɐuo May 18 2018, 10:22 AM

I hope this does something (it won't), but appear in an iTunes chart or... something, just to make them see how strong they are as a unit and as it is the single that was meant to be, one of the best songs from the album for sure. They all look stunning in that video.

Agreed she was, and her solo success proves that but when did Fifth Harmony ever sell an album in their career anyway?

7/27 did reasonably well, going silver. And I don't think people can exactly call them 'awful bullies' without knowing the whole story :') Disappointed no one has challenged that.

That last video cry.gif

Posted by: Jay ☆ May 18 2018, 04:18 PM

One of the strongest tracks on the album. wub.gif I like the aesthetics of the video - suits the song nicely! I like the symbolism of the end with the door being left ajar, but really... I'll be amazed if they ever reform. I'm sure they'll stress it's a "hiatus" for a while, but I just don't detect there being any unfinished business here... they really seem to have run their course.

Of the four of them, I'm most interested in Normani - I think she has the greatest potential.

I’m sorry but calling them ‘Awful’ Bullies’ when you don’t know the full story or know them personally is quite ridiculous ! I also think Normani has a good chance of doing well solo . Possibly Lauren as well with the right material as she’s signed with Columbia Records .

Thats just how they come across to me i’m sure many will disagree but plenty others agree. It always seemed to me the others were jealous of Camila the fact shes gone on to be even bigger as a solo artist than 5H ever were as a band it proves she was the main product. Even Demi Lovato said Camila was the only one who shined and that was right at the start.

Posted by: Cqmerqn May 18 2018, 06:14 PM

Normani already has a hit which is a good sign!

Lauren’s singles have flopped so far.

Posted by: ſnlᴉɐuo May 18 2018, 06:26 PM

DSYLM is almost top 500 on US iTunes and about #700 on UK iTunes! Better than I hoped!

Posted by: Jüpiter May 18 2018, 06:32 PM

I disagree that Camila was the band, the other girls had sparkle too, much as I've had small criticisms of them in the past.

It is a shame though that the band seems to've been used as an extended launch for her career, the most classically beautiful/cute of the five going on to greater success of the group that was deliberately chosen to have girls of different body types all together, doesn't send a great message.

Here's hoping the other girls are able to in some way capitalise on the platform they've had too and build careers at least of some sort for themselves. At least a few of them seem to have been aware for a while that their group had a shelf life.

Let's be real though, that's as being part of a currently successful artist's song.

It could put her in good stead when she launches solo material though.

Well like I said you don’t know them or the situation so to call them something so strong as Bullies when there is no evidence of them being so is ridiculous.

Thinking about how the last era flopped....I know ‘Down’ is hardly the best song in terms of hit potential but it’s weird how radio in the UK literally ignored it. I don’t get why Radio One and Capital totally snubbed it, like surely it’d at least get a C-list on Radio One after the three 7/27 singles did well? Their whole last era was handled horrifically, it’s obvious Camila got all the budget. There’s something very strange about it mellow.gif

That is what I never understood given how supportive UK radio had finally been with them during 7/27!

It’s because they’d already played it hundreds of time when they’d playlisted Work From Home

I really think they'd have seen a serious turnaround in fortunes for the era had they lead with 'He Like That' instead of 'Down' and released 'Down' as 2nd or 3rd single.

Down was one of the few good things about the whole era

Posted by: SGrey May 20 2018, 08:07 PM

I’m with Jonjo, I would have loved to have seen how the era would have panned out with He Like That as lead. Down is great though, just HLT really does stand out a bit more.

Posted by: Jonjo May 20 2018, 08:41 PM

I just feel like HLT would have prevented the whole "weaker/watered down 'Work From Home'" sort of comments (which I believe hindered 'Down' a bit/possibly more than people think) whilst being strong enough to lead in the era.

I agree with this 100%. .He like that would have been the perfect lead single and I’m confused why it wasn’t . As much as I actually didn’t mind Down it just comepelty killed there momentum as it wasn’t anything special song or video wise and it was basically a watered down Work From Home.

They did not struggle for success because Camila left. Nobody except a handful of gays even knew who she was or cared about her.

The reason they struggled is because 'Worh It' and 'Work from Home' were just flash in the pan hits, and not the kind of hits that build a strong following but the kind of middle of the road songs that people hear on the radio and just enjoy. They were lucky and were not meant to last. That's all there is to it.

Posted by: Liаm May 21 2018, 09:57 AM

There just wasn't a spark without Camila... For me the whole self titled album could have been any 4 girls singing mediocre R&B, I know with Camila they were hardly groundbreaking but she was definitely the star. Normani might do OK solo but I can't see any of the others doing much. Camila had the star power, a slightly unusual voice that set the group apart, you knew it was "that girl from 5th Harmony" at least.

If they came back as a 5 piece at some point that would be awesome, give them all a few years to become huge in their own right and it would be SUCH a mega-group.
