https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/ed-sheeran-set-for-the-highest-new-entry-on-this-weeks-official-singles-chart-with-chance-the-rapper-and-pnb-rock-collaboration-cross-me__26417/

Ed Sheeran is set for two Top 10 hits this week.

Ed's Justin Bieber collaboration I Don’t Care leads the midweek Official Chart Update, while Cross Me featuring Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock is set to be this week’s highest new entry at Number 9. Cross Me would mark Ed's 23rd and Chance's fourth UK Top 10 single, while it would be the first Official Chart appearance for Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock.

However, there’s every chance that Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road may return to the top of the Official Singles Chart as the country/rap song is just 820 combined chart sales behind Ed & Justin.

Young Thug is set for his first Top 20 entry as a lead artist with The London featuring J. Cole and Travis Scott at 17, ahead of NSG’s OT Bop, on track to become their second Top 20 hit at 18. 5 Seconds of Summer’s are heading for a landmark 10th UK Top 40 entry with their latest single Easier at 26 and Mark Ronson & Lykke Li’s Late Night Feelings is up for to 29.

Jess Glynne & Jax Jones have teamed up for One Touch, new at Number 31, and finally, David Guetta’s Stay (Don’t Go Away) with Raye is on the cusp of a Top 40 placing at Number 39.

Over on the albums chart, Morrissey is on course to be this week’s highest new entry with his twelfth studio album California Son at Number 2, while Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent is heading for a second week at the top, outselling the Top 3 combined.

Elton John has two albums in the Top 10 following the release of his movie biopic Rocketman. The film's Motion Picture Cast Recording is at 4, while his 50th anniversary album Diamonds jumps nine places midweek to Number 6.

Reading rock band The Amazons’ latest album Future Dust is on course to debut at Number 7, and Primal Scream’s Maximum Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Singles collection is currently at Number 9.

More new entries set to debut in the Top 40 come from The Waterboys with Where The Action Is (13), Sting’s My Songs (18), Flamagra by Flying Lotus (19), Stray Cats with 40 (29) and Kiki Dee’s Gold (33).

Finally, The Spice Girls’ Greatest Hits album could return to the chart following the kick-off of the Spice World – 2019 UK Tour, with the collection currently sitting at Number 32.

ffs how is Ed still #1, thought OTR would've overtaken seeing as its 100k ahead on Spotify

Posted by: danG 28th May 2019, 02:55 PM

I think Old Town Road should easily be able to overtake with the Thursday streaming added, if not before.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 28th May 2019, 03:12 PM

Elton John diamonds could get a new peak. Surprising the new ed Sheeran collab isnt higher. The album chart showing Take That and The Spice Girls top 40 is great.

Posted by: SKOB 28th May 2019, 04:37 PM

Not very good for Spice Girls I mean they are on a sold out STADIUM tour, should at least be top 20 when 4k is enough for that.

Singing songs that the majority of the attendees will have owned for years...

I’m glad the Sheeran collaboration is struggling. It’s a pile of rubbish and obviously mixed reactions from his fans.

still very good sales for lewis album

Posted by: Medellíam 29th May 2019, 02:15 PM

I'm surprised Morrissey is struggling to break 10k when his last album opened with 26k, including nearly 7k from vinyl.

Posted by: Bjork 29th May 2019, 02:23 PM

low sales for Morrissey indeed

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th May 2019, 02:28 PM

To be fair this one is a covers album, which generally don't do as well for artists.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 29th May 2019, 02:36 PM

I think Morrissey becoming widely known for being a far-right sympathiser since his last album could have had an effect, I know people who have jettisoned him because of it.

The battle for Number 1 in the singles is very close, it could go either way.
Spice Girls improving in each update.

He's had the same views in the media for years though.

I feel sorry for Johnny Marr in terms of The Smiths' legacy.

Posted by: danG 29th May 2019, 03:07 PM

I think him having far right views has become more known in recent years however, to the point where he's almost more known for his far right support than his music now. I imagine a few of his fans would've been put off by those though I suspect his new album would've sold less than his previous regardless due to the climate / it being covers.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 29th May 2019, 03:08 PM

I agree, but I don't think he'll ever be more well known for his far-right support than The Smiths tbh.

Hopefully the Spice Girls continue to climb through this week and the next two weeks to be top 10 come those big Wembley dates.

Rocket Man will likely see big increases over the coming weeks and be a very steady seller for the remainder of the year.
It'll be a steady seller for a few weeks but it suffers from having much fewer streaming sales due to the soundtrack not being actual Elton John recordings but rather cover versions by actor Taron Egerton. It won't sell in the way that the Bohemian Rhapsody OST by Queen has sold where the featured tracks are all by Queen. The OST by Queen is attracting streaming sales in a way the Rocketman OST won't do. Instead streams are mainly going to 'Diamonds' by Elton.

Posted by: Bjork 29th May 2019, 05:26 PM

Tagon Egerton sings well but doesn't hit any of the high notes like Elton
so all songs sounds very well
agree this will benefit Elton's Greatest Hits more than this soundtrack

Hi guys,

can someone explain how the sales are being credited when an album is released. Do the streams count accumulated on the album or on each song which was streamed? How does it work also for the singles on an album?

Ah, I should clarify that it's a sort of greatest hits album rather than a new studio album. It was released on Friday and contains 45 songs!

James Arthur got a 30% iTunes boost after BGT but how much effect will that have on his chart position this week given that Thursday streams don't count for the chart?

BTS are on tonight so maybe Boy With Luv might rise next week?

the main BGT effect will be on iTunes rather than Spotify so that will be accounted for

Great to see Sigecky now firmly top 40!

Could I Don't Care stay at #1 then?

Ed's releasing a solo acoustic version tonight which will help him, as I reckon it'll sound like his 'usual' releases.

How has Ed extended his lead from Lil Nas X seeing as Ed’s only ahead of him on iTunes which is hardly anything

Streaming wise, Lil Nas X is ahead especially on Spotify when you combine both versions of OTR

I think Ed Sheeran is going to stay at #1, by the time you factor in the missing data.

You're right. Lil Nas X is ahead on both video streams and audio streams. However, Ed's at #1 thanks to a download advantage.

Morrissey really underperforming, just 300 copies yesterday
I was expecting him to do just 10K only with vinyls :/

James Arthur may make into the Top 30 tomorrow as he has experienced a large boost now.
Spice Girls still climbing, Top 25 looks easily in sight.

Hope Ed stays at no1, not a fan of songs that jump back to the top after weeks away.

Posted by: pippa 30th May 2019, 09:00 PM

I would prefer Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber to also stay at Number 1.

Yikes, i can't believe IDC will be number one again. ohmy.gif
