Wow this blew me away with the development of the song, a lot different to what I thought it’d be like
#1 on New Music Friday!
This honestly just gets better with every listen tbh
and it's gone straight to the Radio 1 A-list!
This is really clicking with me - not paid much attention to Wolf Alice before but I really like! It's stuck around on iTunes all week as well, whilst in itself that means nothing charts-wise it does show that it's been consistently popular throughout the week.
This is stunning - I don’t really know much about them except the beautiful contribution to alt-j’s ‘3WW’. What would you guys recommend from them?
Don't Delete The Kisses is absolutely stunning, one of my favourite songs of all time no doubt.
They've such a varied collection of songs overall, the first half of their debut is perfection (well, if you replace Bros with the original EP version anyway!) - I find Silk massively underrated. The only song I've never really clicked with at all is Yuk Foo, thought it was such a weak return last time.
I am really liking this so far, can it being a massive grower. Have pre-ordered the vinyl, I went green from their website but looks like there are other options too,
Yeah I definitely think you'll like 'Don't Delete the Kisses', Jade. My favourite is their performance for Mercury Prize:
Thank you all for the speedy recommendations *.* will check them all out over the weekend!
My brother saw them as a support act for Liam Gallagher before so I can ask him what he enjoyed most too
“Blush” I would also heartily recommend Jade - it was on their second EP, released in late 2013.
Maybe “Wednesday” from their debut EP, it's a bit more electropop.
Debuts at #34 on the official sales chart. They also performed on Jools Holland tonight:
Honestly can't get over this song, it's so beautiful.
The Jools Holland performance was exceptional
^ wow that performance was goosebump inducing <3
Thanks for all of the recommendations. I did indeed enjoy 'Don't Delete The Kisses' although the chorus sounds very familiar... has it been used in an advert? I decided to check out the 'My Name Is Cool' album in addition to individual song mentions and was so impressed <3 I think I'll just give everything a go now and eagerly anticipate the new album too *.*
I await your unveiling of the vinyl Jade!!
As this song seems to have single-handedly turned Jade into a Wolf Alice stan this probably isn't surprising but yeah this is really great isn't it.
Feeling a little bit of a Bowie vibe?
Yeh def Bowie vibes in the name too, It also reminds me of one of the episodes of 'The Walking Dead Dont ask me why though!!
NEW MUSIC IMMINENT OMG
Where are you seeing that?
"Smile" is out on Tuesday!
Ooooh that preview! 🔥 surprised by how dirty the bass sounds after how majestic 'The Last Man on Earth' was. Can't wait for this!
Think this will be a grat? Second single will be in and around 11th May one month before the album release, this will be to keep interest and preorder sales going! So could be a non commercial banger like Yuk Fu!
Can't wait for this tonight!
More of what I expected from them on this one. I'm not sure of it initially
Yeah it was just decent on first listen, I reckon it'll be a grower though
This isn’t as good as ‘The Last Man on Earth’ (what is?) but I’m loving it nevertheless *.*
I agree ‘Last Man On Earth’ has turned into my song of the year - 7 weeks as number one on my chart which I don’t think has happened. 😀 I always think every week I make the chart there’s bound to be something else I’m enjoying but there isn’t lol.
Release date pushed forward a week!
Good to hear! Was hoping that Easy Life could potentially snatch a #1 this week, but alas. (It might've been James at the top anyway, who I'm less fussed about)
I was wondering if there was some sneaky label politics with this about #1 album potential and not wanting them to get stuck at #2 for a 3rd time
100%
Yeah this is definitely just being moved because of Noel Gallagher's GH album being announced for the same week it was meant to be out lol - cool that they have moved it forwards instead of backwards though.
'Smile' performance
This is like the old singles chart 😀
'No Hard Feelings' coming on Tuesday - can't wait
Looking forward to it!
all these labels moving the release schedule they all learned from Westlife
Just realised that no-one ever posted this:
Each single continues to sound nothing like the last! This is lovely although I'm not quite as gripped as the first two yet. Possibly because of the very short length on such a spaced out song... perhaps it'll be a nice bridging the gap moment in the context of the full album.
It seems to be quite popular to reference Amy Winehouse right now - 'Tears Dry On Their Own' in 'Introvert' by Little Simz recently and I picked up on a 'Love Is A Losing Game' one here too!
That's Mercury Prize right there
The album is amazing.
‘Feeling Myself’ definitely the best track on there from first listen, another 10/10 smash!
Woah this is incredible! The lyrics pack a confident, emotive punch and Ellie sounds majestic throughout. Honestly almost everything is a highlight but on first listen my top favourites from the new songs are 'How Can I Make It OK?', 'Feeling Myself' + 'The Beach II', all of them hit me like a tonne of bricks. Can't wait for the vinyl to arrive
Love that their Twitter picture is still Måneskin right now mixed rock bands thriving <3
So excited to hear this, they delivered with the lead single and most of the teaser tracks have also been great.
My vinyl hasn't arrived yet and my wi-fi is down so can't access my decent Sonos I really want to listen to this but want to hear it in decent sound quality - don't like my phone/earphones much
So hyped for it - have listened to their catalogue a lot since The Last Man on Earth came out - they really don't have a poor song across any of their albums and EPs, Yuk Foo is the one I take too least and that's fine. Their performance at Live at Worthy Farm was superb too.
A really good album, How Can I Make It Ok? is maybe my favourite from them so far. Safe From Heartbreak was another fave on first listen. Apparently on course for No.1 outselling the top five combined and, James and Olivia who is still streaming well can’t be that easy to easily get in front of by five times so it must be set for strong sales.
They really are developing into one of the biggest bands in the country imo, but I am biased!
'How Can I Make It Ok?' didn't need to step on my neck like this — the Kate Bush vibes are stunning.
I've not really delved in to their music before, but I'm quite enjoying this album!
I love how it can go from something quite hard-hitting like 'How Can I Make It OK?' to brash, wacky and downright bonkers like 'Play The Greatest Hits' on the next track.
'Play The Greatest Hits' is a fantastic standout on an otherwise very refined album. Love them doing both styles, though I admit I gravitate a bit more to their out and rocky ones like that one.
Now officially their first #1 album! Much higher sales than their previous as well.
"Smile" and "How Can I Make It OK" also sneak in the singles chart at #88 and #93!
Ok so my favourite song has changed to 'Delicious Things' after listening this week again, changes all the time though!!
Fashionably late review from me - 'The Last Man On Earth' remains quite easily my song of the year so far and not sure I see anything topping it but I wasn't a huge fan of 'Smile' and also thought 'No Hard Feelings' was pretty lovely but didn't sound like single material which made me a little apprehensive about the rest of the album, but my hype was restored a bit by 'How Can I Make It OK?' (which did take a couple of listens to fully click with me but now that it has it's another stunner of a track) and it turns out they did just save a lot of the best songs as album tracks, I can't fathom why 'No Hard Feelings' was chosen as a teaser track over 'Lipstick On The Glass', 'The Beach', 'Delicious Things'...?! (And I'd say the same about 'Smile' but with it being the most popular song from the album I can't really say it was a bad single choice lmao, it's just still pretty low on my own ranking of the album). Particularly loving the trip-hop vibes on LOTG <3 'Play The Greatest Hits' kind of sounds like an old demo from a different era of the band that was put on this album accidentally, sticks out like a sore thumb, but I do really enjoy it in its own right - may have been intentional though given the title of the song? I think the only song that I'd call a real dud on here is 'Safe From Heartbreak (if you never fall in love)', somewhat pleasant but it's B-side material at best.
A little sad that 'The Last Man On Earth' still came nowhere near charting even with the album release but I'll accept 'How Can I Make It OK?' going top 100 instead, and great that they managed the #1 album too. And after all the kerfuffle about it being pulled forward a week, it had higher opening sales than the Noel album anyway lmao
BTW it looks like they are dropping a music video for every song on the album - since the album release they've been drip feeding videos for the album tracks, about one per week going in the order of the tracklist, 'Play The Greatest Hits' just dropped today so I guess it'll be 'Feeling Myself' next week if the pattern continues.
Absolutely loving "Play The Greatest Hits" at the moment! Definitely the standout for me
Jo Whiley played How Can I Make It OK? earlier tonight and said it's their new single. Glad that's their choice tbh
Yeh Annie’s been playing that a lot on her evening shows - hopefully will be playlisted in the coming month!
The verses of How Can I Make it Ok has echoes of Fleetwood's Mac's Rhiannon while the chorus sounds like a Haim song.
its so amusing to me that joff's band is doing so well... we went to school together for a year (before I left) and I got invited to their Shepherds Bush aftershow and he remembered me
‘Delicious Things’ is the next song that’s been sent to radio and has been played a bit on the evening shows. Not sure how much they will push it but can see radio 1 playlist it considering how big this album has been on the station this year!
WA are releasing an EP on June 24th titled 'Blue Lullaby' featuring slower 'lullaby' versions of a few songs! The new version of 'The Last Man on Earth' is out now.
Tracklisting:
1. No Hard Feelings
2. Lipstick On The Glass
3. How Can I Make It OK?
4. The Last Man On Earth
Their gorgeous cover of ‘In The Bleak Midwinter’ has been released on all streaming platforms today! (It was previously Apple Music-only)
Oh I love this, that intro is very haunting. Can't say I've ever thought about putting any incarnation of this song on a Christmas playlist but this one has been added to mine.
Same here, do love the hymn as well though!
