13th Doctor announcement coming on Sunday after the Wimbledon Men's final!!!!! cheer.gif

Posted by: Klaus 14th July 2017, 05:31 PM

eeek I'm nervous! The rumour mill has been incredibly quiet outside of Kris Marshall (too bland) and Pheobe Waller-Bridge (too busy) so I have NO idea what to expect. That possibly leads to me to expect an unknown (like Matt Smith was). I'm fully expecting they'll be a man too.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 14th July 2017, 05:41 PM

Richard Ayoade's been my dream casting for The Doctor, even during the Matt Smith era, but given that he's liking to be busy with The Crystal Maze, I doubt they'll get him for the role.

I can't see Kris Marshall getting the role, as I don't think he's the right sort for the role, and I can't see it being a woman. I imagine it'll be someone more akin to David Tennant ie someone who's been in a few notable critically acclaimed roles without being a household name in their own right.

I think you're getting confused. The role of the 13th Doctor is not part of the prize for winning Wimbledon tongue.gif

Good thing it's not announced after the mixed doubles final.

Having said that, a series of Doctor Who with two incarnations of the Doctor simultaneously would be an interesting take, and a rather good way for Chris Chibnall to set out his tenure as showrunner as different to those of Moffat/Davies.

Could be a female for all we know.

Some female names have been thrown in ohmy.gif

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 15th July 2017, 09:21 AM

They would have it after the woman's final if that was the case, mark my words sad.gif

Posted by: Shaphne 15th July 2017, 01:49 PM

They would have gone for the men's final no matter what, it's more likelty to get ore buzz and viewers so would be a better lead in.

Posted by: danG 15th July 2017, 02:35 PM

Very much expecting it to be the first female doctor actually, the show would get HUGE free publicity if they announced a female doctor. And Missy proved that time lords being female can work very well.

Same here, my thinking it has something to do with the first Doctor, which Peter Capaldi met at the end of Series 10, which sort of brings it back to the beginning, its like a reset switch heehee.gif which leads to a series of female Doctors. I think Chris Chibnall will be great as a front show runner. And the list of female actors it has attracted on the IMDB report, I'm sure Russell T. Davies is the producer of Chewing Gum as I read it somewhere, cancel that its Cucumber.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 15th July 2017, 02:54 PM

I cannot imagine the Chewing Gum actress as doctor - she is too young and TOO comedic.

If they got Margerie from GoT though oh my god that would be ohmy.gifO

The most disappointing for me, and I don't think I will bother watching, is Chris Marshell, the dumb one from My Family.

Posted by: Shaphne 15th July 2017, 03:06 PM

KRIS Marshall has been in more than just My Family and proved he would be more than capable.

Although if he can get you to stop watching DW and, thus, save another thread from your inane ramblings then he'd be the best Doctor ever.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 15th July 2017, 03:12 PM

He is a very beige actor, sorry. Very very boring and seems quite gormless. The only roles he was tolerable in were Doctor Zhivago and Love Actually. He is too well-knoen to be doctor too and would take people oot of suspension of disbelief.

Posted by: Klaus 15th July 2017, 03:40 PM

Kris Marshall would be an incredibly boring choice and would start the new era off on the wrong step. He's far too bland and lacks the character that the role needs. It needs a bold actor in the role, not someone who could play any old standard normal middle-aged man role.

Capaldi was far more well known when he took over than Marshall has ever been and that seems to have worked out fine.

You could also say the same of Davison and arguably Tennant

Posted by: Chez Wombat 15th July 2017, 04:18 PM

Yeah, I just can't imagine Kris Marshall carrying off being the Doctor. It doesn't help that he's permanently lodged into my head as the guy from the old BT adverts laugh.gif Capaldi at least already had a striking character to his name through Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It.

I'd love it to be a female Doctor, but I just don't think we're there yet (certainly not with Phoebe Waller Bridge who's too busy anyway). I imagine it'll just be someone very few have heard of a'la Matt Smith.

Posted by: Severin 15th July 2017, 04:31 PM

I'm still hoping for Richard O'Brien but I suspect it'll never happen.

Cumberbatch or Eddie Redmayne would be great too but they're kind of too big for the show now

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th July 2017, 04:32 PM

One suggestion I've seen is Damien Molony, aka Hal in Being Human. Would be an excellent Doctor I think, although I'm not expecting him.

Posted by: Mart!n 15th July 2017, 04:41 PM

I rather want Ben Wishaw, if we are throwing names around for a male Doctor, he seems to be less busy than others at the moment, will probably be finishing Mary Poppins by the end of year.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 15th July 2017, 04:50 PM

Cumberbatch would be AWFUL as a doctor. It would be cross-fandoms and cross-universes. A mess.

Regina is probably lettin ha crushes influence her opinions on acting ability/ personality AGAIN tbh. Kris Marshall would be atrocious.

Missy was clearly a pilot to see how fans would react to a female doctor. I believe she's been a success so it wouldn't surprise me if the new Doctor is female.

I think Ben Wishaw would be a great choice although he would probably have to accept a good deal less money than he is used to making.

I'm still holding out for Luke Newberry (Kieren in In The Flesh) but he doesn't appear on the bookies' lists at all. The new favourite is Jodie Whittaker (Beth Latimer in Broadchurch).

I think, had Moffatt stayed on, we would have got a female Doctor but I don't think Chibnall will go for that to start off his new era. I think it'll be a more younger Doctor than Peter (well it needs to be anyway) and they'll be a relative unknown.

Or if it's a decent actor, perhaps people will be satisfied whatever the outcome rather than creaming themselves over the BBC ticking boxes.

As long as they're good, I don't care about their gender, race or sexuality.

Posted by: Klaus 15th July 2017, 07:11 PM

One of the main reasons why i'm not overly keen on a woman being the Doctor is that I don't want it to happen just for the sake of it and for box ticking, I just want the best person for the job. Its not as though the show has a lack of female roles because it has a wide range of them. I don't think we should be forcing well-known characters/franchises to he female just for the sake of it. It has to work well and be organic.

Missy was natural and helped create a new dimension to the character of the Master, things like Rey in Star Wars is alsonvery natural. But things like Ghostbusters and these latest cries for the next James Bond to be a female is forced. At this point, I think a female Doctor is in the middle of these two avenues and I just don't think its the right time for it unless the casting was perfect (I do like the shout of Pheobe Waller Bridge! and Michelle was really why Missy also worked so well). I just don't think we should be forcing changes on established characters but we should be creating NEW franchises that can create a great, long legacy for female characters at the forefront.

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th July 2017, 07:19 PM

I'm not 100% sold on a female Doctor either, pretty much for the reasons Froot posted. The actor/actress would have to be cast simply because they would make an excellent Doctor, not to tick boxes. Doctor Who has been excellent at portraying strong females and not casting one in the lead role doesn't change that, as much as some people may argue otherwise.

I'm not against it entirely anymore though, purely because I have faith in Chibnall and I don't think they've gone wrong at all with any of the previous 13 incarnations (John Hurt included). Plus a female Master worked better than I ever imagined. So we'll see I guess!

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 15th July 2017, 07:36 PM

I am 100% FOR it. It is well established by now tha they can change genders. Why always have a white middle class British mle playing an ALIEN??

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 16th July 2017, 01:27 PM

Is there a link for the live announcement to watch onleen???

Posted by: Klaus 16th July 2017, 01:39 PM

If you go to BBC iPlayer, you can watch live.

Posted by: danG 16th July 2017, 01:43 PM

people want the next James Bond to be a female?!? laugh.gif Now that's ridiculous. Do people want Sherlock Holmes to be female too?

I guess I wouldn't mind a female Doctor long as she still has the personality of the Doctor (though I'd prefer the role to remain male) seeing as it's very much possible in that universe, and I trust that the BBC will choose the best person for the role regardless of their gender or race.

Also, it probably means that it definitely is the end for Bill as we should be getting a male companion. sad.gif

Interesting choice! Can't imagine her doing it... but, then again, couldn't imagine Catherine Tate in it and she was amazing.

Never heard of her before but my parents loved Broadchurch so she must be good.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 16th July 2017, 03:36 PM

Well that's a bold move if ever I saw one! ohmy.gif

I'm impressed, have very little impression of her (though I recognise her from Black Mirror and Attack the Block and I recall her being good) but very interested to see what she can bring.

Unless they go for same sex sensual tension? Would be a radical change but v interesting! Remember, he/ she is supposed to be a gender bending, fluid sexual alien!

Of course! It's been established for a while now that Time Lords can change gender in regeneration.

Posted by: Shaphne 16th July 2017, 03:39 PM

Why would there need to be sexual tension? It's possible for two people to just be friends. Donna perfectly proved that the Doctor's companion can just be a friend. IMO, other than Amy and Rory, the romantic aspects of this show was always its weak spots, so let's just focus on story.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 16th July 2017, 03:40 PM

But it is an option!

If done well, why not?

Beautiful actress too. Doctor Whos are usually funny looking like Tennant or Smith.

So was that the announcement? Is Wimbledon over? Thought it was on till 6.30

ngl this is one of my current issues because all I keep imagining her is in Broadchurch where the character has to be constantly sad and moody. I need to be picturing her in a more St Trinians light.

-x-

I really don't think she would be among my top choices for a female Doctor but I can't fully judge until I've seen her in full action in the role. I'm just relieved its not Kris Marshall tbh.

Now we wait for the companion announcement! cheer.gif I do strongly believe that they need to keep the male/female dynamic.

Posted by: Mark. 16th July 2017, 03:52 PM

Kris Marshall would have been good though but i'm not opposed to this choice. Should be interesting.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 16th July 2017, 03:52 PM

Agreed tbh.

I am so excited by this.

Everyone will be talking aboot it. It will get the show maximum hype, was hinted at all throughout the last season, Missy was the test. Amazing decision. Mind boggling it was on after the men's, not the woman's final though. I guess that was to trick us!!

I was dreading the new doctor after really enjoying Capaldi this past season, but now he can't regenerate fast enough!! Goodbye, Capaldi, great last season, but won't rewatch those crap ones with Clara!

I am so glad they did not cancel the show during its Capaldi Clara nadir when haters like Mikey! were calling for the axe.

Posted by: Severin 16th July 2017, 03:53 PM

It'll be interesting to see how this works out. Even if it's really well done and the scripts are perfect and she's brilliant, there's still going to be a whole bunch of people that will be put off because she's a woman.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 16th July 2017, 03:55 PM

And a whole bunch more tuning in oot of interest, which is good considering the HUGE uptick in quality this past season.

The ratings were DIRE. It needs this.

I'm getting some Catherine Tate teas from it tbh. Most people knew her from her sketch show ao imagined she'd just be crude and OTT funny but she proved them wrong when it came to the more serious aspects. Sure she had her comedy moments but not in a Nan kinda way.

Peter was mainly known for comic stuff but was a moody git laugh.gif so I'm remaining hopeful.

Posted by: Dexton 16th July 2017, 04:12 PM

Wow she looks great I can't wait until Christmas! I recognise her name but I don't think I've ever seen anything she's in, unlike when Capaldi was announced (I immediately rewatched The Thick of It after we found out it was him laugh.gif) but I'm intrigued. I hope she does the Doctor justice as a younger portrayal, since nowadays the Doctor doesn't need to be the "grandfather figure" that the character was originally created as and I hope they continue with younger actors in the future.

Posted by: Klaus 16th July 2017, 04:17 PM

Oh yes, I'm very happy that they've got someone younger again, the whole female aspect made me forget about that! I feel mid to late 30s is sort of the perfect age for the show as it is now.

Posted by: Mart!n 16th July 2017, 04:19 PM

I'm intrigued, Jodie is a good catch, guessing Chris wanted her for the role as the new Doctor, when he was involved with Broadchurch.

Maybe Pixie Lott will be her companion laugh.gif

Posted by: burbe 16th July 2017, 04:31 PM

On one hand, I'm really glad to see them go for a female Doctor. If the writing is good and she retains the characteristics of the Doctor, there shouldn't be a problem.

What worries me is the bigger picture atm. I worry they went with a female Doctor purely for publicity because ratings have fallen off a cliff and this could created some much needed intrigue. However, they've also run the risk of alienating the few people still watching IF this goes wrong. Coupled with the fact that the new showrunner doesn't have the best track record when it comes to writing for Doctor Who episodes, I'm not feeling hopeful about Series 11. But I REALLY hope I'm proved wrong. It's a risky move that will either save the show or hasten the ratings decline.

Posted by: T Boy 16th July 2017, 04:39 PM

Clearly the biggest issue to come of all this is the fact that the Doctor STILL isn't ginger.

Neither has the Doctor been a person of colour STILL, which I would have rather seen over a female.

I don't know why, but this gives me Sean O'Connor vibes (for people who follow EastEnders).

my major issue with this is that the doctor will now suddenly be completely pansexual yet not explore anything except her love for men and u will NOT dare see a woman-on-woman kiss for consistency's sake either, it's like as soon as the doctor's gender fluidity changes their sexuality is rigidly hetero ohmy.gif

looking good. The news should get big publicity world-wide (and it is a huge enterprise), to be honest I've loved every Doctor since the reboot and every companion, and I don't expect anything to change that as long as there are enough good to great scripts in each season.

there is no such thing as a bad character, only bad writing or bad acting, and Who leads have never been bad actors, give or take a Pertwee or McCoy comedy grimace.

As it's largely a kids show and needs to appeal to other countries for overseas sales I dont expect to see woman on woman or woman on man hot action anymore than the Doctor has enjoyed man on woman action before. The removal of Bill after only one season, and the end of Missy, was clearly the set-up to the change. I hope if it's a male companion (as it looks like) that it's more of a Jamie likeable laddy type, it's been 48 years since the last one....

Posted by: JosephStyles 16th July 2017, 07:41 PM

Yeah I'd like a male companion now (or both male and female?), would be the first time in the new series where a full-time male companion is fully fleshed out! Rory felt like an extension to Amy most of the time and Nardole, as great as he was, was VERY underused.

Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 16th July 2017, 07:59 PM

It would be a gender role reversal and a reverse damsel in distress#

Up for a male companion too tbh. Rory worked v well.

people want the next James Bond to be a female?!? laugh.gif Now that's ridiculous. Do people want Sherlock Holmes to be female too?

As usual, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tantei_Opera_Milky_Holmes. And besides, Lucy Liu plays the Watson character in the American version of Holmes, Elementary.

As to the casting of Jodie Whitticker, and by extension, a woman, in the role of The Doctor, my first gut reaction, the same as a lot of people, is immediate rejection, after all up until this point The Doctor's been a man, so why change it now.

Then I rolled back a second, remembered that Doctor Who is a fictitious character, and remembered that there's more important things to get worked up about. So I'm going to give her a chance, actually watch what she's like when she starts filming, and take it from there. Who knows, she could end up being the best Doctor ever. Or worse than Colin Baker. Or somewhere in the middle.

I imagine that following this regeneration, a lot more of the stories are going to take place in the future rather than in the past, as stories set in the past will have a completely different dynamic with a female Doctor & (presumably) male companion, given the mores of the time.

Its Win Win for the Daily Fail, they get to bash a British institution AND the BBC AND the Left who had nothing to do with it (The BBC charter is not written by the left, it's written by the mates of rioght-wing politicians controlling behind the scenes).

Also, chances of a Mail reader understanding the appeal of Scifi is fairly remote. "But it's not REAL!" Just like the Mail content then...

I agree with her. It's different but people will get used to it.
I think Jodie will be okay.

Posted by: Cody Rance 17th July 2017, 04:20 AM

I think from a writing perspective, it will be interesting and challenging to write for a female center lead, let alone a female Doctor. A lot of what has centered around the show in terms of character dynamics has been about the connection between Doctor and Companion, and we've only seen that with a male Doctor and a female companion or in the case of Amy and Rory, the two companions themselves. I definitely agree with Michael - this role reversal can open up so many new avenues in terms of storyline. Are we going to have a classic love story with the gender roles reversed? Will the dynamic focus on women empowerment? Or will we see a more unconventional relationship between Doctor and Companion?

It really depends on the writing and how production will pull this off. I think we can put some more pieces together once more cast members and other spoilers have been revealed.

Not necessarily. This could be a case of short term gain but doing nothing in the long term.

Posted by: Slick 18th July 2017, 06:49 AM

I'll admit I wasn't sure whether they'd be brave enough to cast a woman in the role, but Jpdie is a fantastic choice and I came round to the idea almost immediately. There's something very likeable about her and I can imagine her being very affable and witty which would be a stark difference to Capaldi's Doctor.

I don't think that the companion should be a man just because the Doctor is now a woman. I think that sends all the wrong messages about gender. Bill and a female Doctor would work really well if they brought her back, or perhaps something more along the lines of Nardole (a male yes, but also an alien) as opposed to a regular early 20 something male in the vein of Rose, Martha, Amy etc.

But the male/female dynamic has ALWAYS been there throughout the show's 50+ history. Plus, young boys do need someone there to relate to. I strongly believe that the companion needs to be male, although there could of course be two companions.

I would be concerned that a male companion would send the wrong message i.e. the Doctor can be female but only if she has a plucky young male companion to get her out of the sticky spots.

I'm sure whatever they go for, they will write it well but I don't think a female Doctor NEEDS a male companion - at least, not whilst she still has a point to prove. (And as much as we in here will disagree, Jodie and the whole Doctor Who team have a lot to do to prove this was a good decision.)

It's not like the Doctor's companions to date haven't got him out of sticky spots in the past - Donna, Martha, Rose et al have all done so in spectacular season-ending examples.

And on a wider scale, one of the key roles the companion has (in my mind) is that they help The Doctor to embrace his human side (or as human as a shape-shifting alien can get). Re-watching the first episode with Donna as a full-time companion made me realise just how much that is the case.

On a slightly related note, I'm interested to see if changing The Doctor's sex will also lead to the most radical personality change for The Doctor as well. If this is the case, and The Doctor's personality is altered to become a lot more "feminine", so to speak, then a male companion will act as a good counter-balance to these personality traits, just as the largely female companions of the past have done in the past to temper The Doctor's more aggressive tendencies.

Posted by: danG 18th July 2017, 07:00 PM

yeah I hope it's a male companion, or at least if it's a woman she has a prominent boyfriend, as the show has always relied on having lead characters of both genders.

I knew somebody would make this point, but I think a female companion helping out a male Doctor is very different to a male companion helping out a female Doctor when you are trying to prove the point that the Doctor doesn't NEED to be a man. The Doctor as a man has no point to prove because he's always been a man, and no one has ever questioned that.

(I feel like I'm getting into some deep feminism shit here so I'ma stop.)

EITHER WAY, YAY FOR JODIE.

Rather sceptical of that being true, but if so I think it could work quite well. It sounds like it could ends up being similar to The Doctor/Donna i.e both the Doctor & the companion of a similar age, with the companion being an actor with an established career beforehand, as buddies. Could work well.

(I can't see us having any Master for this season actually considering the last season was really focused on that character, would be good to give it a rest)

Yeah I can see Chibnall resting the Master for a little bit, just like Moffat did for series 5-7!

I think if we're getting a male companion, I'd prefer someone younger than Kris Marshall really. I wouldn't have minded him as the Doctor but I cannot imagine him as a companion at ALL.

Oh so it's not Michelle Ryan then nocheer.gif Already reviewed the series in the rate thread but I'll say that I'm very intrigued to see what a female Doc will bring! (In universe, I theorise he became female because he tried so hard to prevent regeneration...idk laugh.gif ) I can sort of understand the division between the fans who are used to a male Doc and think it'll all be too feminine. I'm not making any assumptions and I'm sure she's going to put some interesting/new concepts to the show thinking.gif this'll also mean a chance at getting a more prominent male companion ohmy.gif (idk about Kris though but #we'llsee) Rory was great as well as some of the others but I'd like to see what a male companion can offer other than a friend or boyfriend of the main companion (also bring Capt. In a further comment, it's interesting to see Frances de le Tour mentioned in the article as she was also mentioned in the latest speculation about the next Doctor. I think she would have been a good choice although I suspect that they were always going to go for a younger actor after Peter Capaldi.

Hopefully this can improve on the rushed endings that can often be a problem but not here for less episodes whatever the case kink.gif

Posted by: The Burbadook 9th October 2017, 12:35 PM

Whilst I'm glad we'll have longer episodes, I don't think it should be at the expense of another 2 episodes!

Posted by: THEO. 9th October 2017, 12:39 PM

I think 10 episodes is fine, especially if every single one will be a full hour. I can't think of (m)any other UK TV programmes that have more than six episodes per series?!

Posted by: The Burbadook 9th October 2017, 12:43 PM

I get that but considering we don't even get one series per year now, they're getting a bit stingy with their commissions!

Posted by: Severin 9th October 2017, 03:24 PM

If the shortened series improves the overall quality (and let's face it there's too many filler episodes usually) then I'm all for it

Posted by: Calcified Froot 9th October 2017, 04:32 PM

But what if the filler episodes are still there, so we get less good, solid episodes.

Some of the best episodes (aka Midnight, Blink) have kind of come about due to needing that extra episode and I would happily suffer through a Love & Monsters if we get them!

I’m kind of hoping they move it to Sunday nights too, maybe at 8pm. The hour slot will help it fit in the schedule. It’s return may have helped bring back Saturday night TV in 2005 but it’s not going to respark again now and the show is becoming lost in the fact that no other dramas air on Saturday nights apart from the mainstay of Casualty.

Posted by: Slick 9th October 2017, 05:01 PM

I'd take 10 strong hour-long episodes over 12/13 shorter episodes if it means the overall quality improves. Doctor Who has far too many naff episodes and hopefully this coincides with a bit of quality control.

Actually I think moving it from Saturdays would be a good move and it doesn't get much better than Sunday in the prime 8pm slot! Unfortunately the BBC rarely make brave or unexpected scheduling decisions so it will probably remain Saturdays until whenever it gets cancelled.

I honestly don't know how I feel about Bradley Walsh actually being a companion lol. Hopefully I am pleasantly surprised, but I'm hoping he's more of a backseat companion.

Interested to see what both Yasmin and Ryan are like!

I mean...at least he’s not the sole companion I guess?

Not sure about having THREE companions, meaning the audience has the adjust/warm to four main characters all in one go. Maybe Bradley is just the father figure though who stays at home? All signs are pointing to this being a very different show to what we’ve had for the past 10 series so I’m starting to become very nervous.

Posted by: Calum 22nd October 2017, 10:04 PM

Also confirmed that there will only be 10 episodes for series 11, all 50 minutes each!

Sharon D Clarke also cast as a "returning character" apparently, interesting ~

Posted by: Calcified Froot 22nd October 2017, 10:06 PM

Oh the 10 episodes are going to be 50 minutes long, with the first episode being 1 hour. Shooting starts tomorrow and it will air in the Autumn next year.

So, we are getting less of the show and they’re moving it back to the timeslot where it gets dwarfed by reality TV, IF it stays on Saturday which it most likely will.

I’m sick of hearing ‘all those doubting Bradley Walsh need to watch Law & Order: UK’. Yes, I have watched it and yes, I still find him bad and cringy in it.

I maybe wouldn’t mind if he was a background family member character but I can’t have him being a main character. I guess I’ve been proven wrong with the show before though...

(although I can’t see him giving up The Chase and that will take up a lot of time to film whilst Doctor Who Is a full on production sooo...)

Posted by: JosephStyles 9th November 2017, 08:09 PM

LOVE the outfit, really stylish and still very Doctor-y! The TARDIS I'm less fond of really.

Posted by: BridgeCow 9th November 2017, 08:09 PM

I’m actually really loving the new outfit, I think it stands out which is good after the more dulled down outfits recently, but yeah I don’t like the tardis at all either

Posted by: Severin 11th November 2017, 08:52 PM

Everytime I look at that picture I just can't stop thinking of Mork (from Mork & Mindy)

Posted by: Suedehead2 11th November 2017, 09:12 PM

If she comes out of the regeneration saying Nanu Nanu, it might start to get confusing.

Posted by: Klaus 12th November 2017, 02:01 PM

Bradley Walsh starts filming this week (dunno if they already have started filming generally) and his character’s called Graham. 🙃

Posted by: Severin 28th December 2017, 08:00 PM

I seem to recall Chibnall saying he wanted more historical episodes so maybe the Tardis won't be gone for long. Personally I think far too many are set in modern day Earth so I hope it's more varied if nothing else

Posted by: BridgeCow 28th December 2017, 09:13 PM

Yeah not really here for it being mostly modern set episodes :// but I can see them doing it to try and have like a fresh start and attract new viewers

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef 14th January 2018, 07:37 PM

Ha what do you know - I was right

Thr ONLY reason they revealed Jodie as the new doctor late was because they didn't want to announce at all!! They wanted to keep it a secret, surprise regeneration, but thought she would be spotted in Cardiff and two and two would be put together.

Posted by: Suedehead2 14th January 2018, 08:20 PM

There were surely plenty of other options such as recording her brief appearance in London.

I think if there's any chance of a Rose return, it wouldn't happen in Chibnall's first series when he's trying to establish his own version of the show. Plus, what with everything being kept so quiet about series 10, I doubt Billie would've been allowed to tease like that! kink.gif

I saw Twice Upon A Time on iPlayer last week. I enjoyed it.

My scorecard for Series 10:

Pilot [BRILLIANT]
Smile [GREAT]
Thin Ice [GREAT]
Knock Knock [OUTSTANDING]
Oxygen [OUTSTANDING]
Extremis [ [GOLD] ]
The Pyramid At The End Of The World [BRILLIANT]
The Lie Of The Land [OUTSTANDING]
The Empress Of Mars [DIVINE]
The Eaters Of Light [GOOD] (-)
World Enough And Time [ [GOLD] ]
The Doctor Falls [OUTSTANDING]
-
Twice Upon A Time [BRILLIANT]
BRILLIANT series (93%)

Top 5:

5. Knock Knock
4. The Doctor Falls
3. The Lie Of The Land
2. Extremis
1. World Enough And Time

Can you please explain how your ranking works? tongue.gif Gold is obviously top and Good lowest but everything in between is confusing me laugh.gif

I think a Rose comeback would be a bad idea. As much as I’d like it, her whole story arc was drawn on way too long and ended with a bit of a slap in the face I think (even if it was the best that could happen tbh). If she came back there would be huge questions to be answered. Why is she back? What happened to the human David Tennant doctor? Will David Tennant return as Doctor Human? I feel like her returning for anything, even a cameo, would be too risky to do as it would come across as too much of a fan service and the new DW writer trying to win over everyone too hard.

All that above is a bit all over the place I know laugh.gif I miss the days of Rose, Donna, Martha, Jack, Mickey, etc etc. Those were companions I actually genuinely cared about and wanted to spend more time with. Torchwood was beyond amazing, just a shame it will probabaly never grace our screens again

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef 8th February 2018, 05:03 PM

WHY? Her arc was great, she was the best companion, but surely it ended?

Rose is my favourite companion, but the new Doctor is just finding her feet. She needs to be the strongest female character in it, and I think Rose could take away from that at a time when the show needs to establish Jodie. It could also bring back Tennant at a time when the new Doctor is just a few episodes old...

Let me improve on that ranking

My scorecard for Series 10:

Pilot [BRILLIANT] 9
Smile [GREAT] 8
Thin Ice [GOOD] 6
Knock Knock [ABYSMAL, ONE OF THE WORST EVER] -9
Oxygen [OUTSTANDING] 10
Extremis [ [OUTSTANDING] 10
The Pyramid At The End Of The World [GREAT] 7.5
The Lie Of The Land [VERY GOOD] 7
The Empress Of Mars [BOOORIIING, REALLY BAD] -8
The Eaters Of Light [WORST. EPISODE. EVER. NONSENSICAL AND SHET.) -10
World Enough And Time [ ONE OF THE BEST WHO EPISODES EEEEEVER] ] 11
The Doctor Falls [OUTSTANDING] 10

1. World and Teem Enough
2. Extremis
3. Oxygen
4. Pilot
5. The Doctor Falls

Posted by: Chez Wombat 8th February 2018, 05:23 PM

I love her but no, we can't be having Rose back right now, too many questions as said and I want to see what the new writer can bring that's fresh (or anything just to eradicate Dinosaurs on a Spaceship from memory).

Posted by: T Boy 8th February 2018, 07:13 PM

Rose is done. Her series 4 comeback was hyped no end and she basically did bugger all. I much preferred Donna tbh.

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 20th February 2018, 08:09 PM

Confirmed to be returning in October too! biggrin.gif

I love the logo, different to what we've had so far but fittingly so considering we're in an entirely new era of Who.

Posted by: Klaus 20th February 2018, 08:23 PM

I actually really like that new logo and the image is really great! The Moffatt era one is my fave of the three since 2005 but this is probably better than RTD kink.gif

I'm less keen on this though:

as I don't like it being referred to as 'Who', and it makes it look like like some random historical drama

-x-

As an aside, Murray Gold, the composer since 2005 has revealed he will not be working on the new series ohmy.gif

Posted by: lewistgreen 20th February 2018, 08:37 PM

Love it *.*

Posted by: HarryEzra 20th February 2018, 09:05 PM

I think that logo is great but yeah I dont like the solo 'Who' version makes it seem not like the show. Even if they put Doctor who in the corner of the circle logo or something.

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef 20th February 2018, 09:12 PM

Love them just calling it Who

But tbh the fan-made logo was better tongue.gif

Posted by: Theo. 20th February 2018, 10:25 PM

LOVE the logo! My favourite of the revived series ohmy.gif A bit frustrating that we have to wait so long for the series to come out but if it makes it better than Moffat's last few, it'll be for the best.

Posted by: Botchia 20th February 2018, 10:28 PM

I like it! It feels very Netflix original if you know what I mean!

Posted by: liamk97 20th February 2018, 11:41 PM

It's very Robin Hood I think. Kinda like it though.

Posted by: Dexton 21st February 2018, 03:14 PM

Reminds me of the Merlin logo tbh. I don’t mind it but I’m a bit sceptical at how far they’re going with all the new changes. I feel like this could very easily turn into a brand new show, Feeling like a reboot of Doctor Who but in an alternate world where genders are reversed or something. I love the idea of a female Doctor, completely revamped logo, new companions, new writers, etc etc etc - but ALL of these new features are coming at the exact same time and I’m a bit worried the show is going to lose its charm and nostalgia.

Posted by: Klaus 21st February 2018, 06:49 PM

Reboots is exactly what the show is about, heck each WEEK the show reboots itself with an entire new world/time. The only major differences (that we know) between the changes being made now and the changes made between Series 4/5 is the drop in episode number and the change in composer. In Series 5, we got a new Doctor, companion, TARDIS (inside and out), logo, executive producers etc

If the show didn’t reboot itself, there’s no way it would be reaching its 37th series!

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 21st February 2018, 06:54 PM

Yeah the entire show is built on change, if we didn't have change so rooted within the show's DNA it would have finished back in 1966 when William Hartnell left! tongue.gif

Posted by: Botchia 21st February 2018, 06:59 PM

Agree with all that Klaus said, it's fundamental to Doctor Who that it regularly refreshes and changes. The show definitely needed a big reboot as well at this stage!

Posted by: Klaus 26th March 2018, 12:00 PM

Some v tiny bits of info have come in:

Sharon D Clarke has confirmed her role as the wife of Bradley Walsh’s character and they are both human.
Lee Mack has got a tiny role in the upcoming series

Guess that kind of confirma Bradley is a full tome companion after Sharon was only announced as a recurring character :/

They need to reveal something substantial soon, not a full length trailer or anything as it is still a long way off but something more substantial then just a random clip of the each cast member. I think that’s finally the right level of promo that is needed right now - build excitement by having something more substantial but still keeping cards to the chest at this earlier stage.

I cannot wait for the full blown monsters trailer! Seems like they’re wanting to focus on new monsters which I think will be a good thing as it’s been a looooong time since we’ve had a good strong and rememberable new monster. The Zygons are the only recent one I can think of and they were created in the 1970s!! The Daleks have apparently yet to appear with two weeks left for filming on the Xmas special.

Chris Chibnall has confirmed there's no two-parters this series.

That's a bit of a letdown but I imagine there'll still be some sort of series arc rather than all the episodes being standalones.

This second trailer seemingly doesn't give us any new information then but it's good to have some visuals, it's all looking good but hopefully we get some more information about the companions and a glimpse of the aliens we'll be seeing soon.

Don't they have to include the Daleks in every season else they lose their license to them or something though? I'm sure there'll be at least one episode where they show up anyway.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 19th July 2018, 10:29 PM

That's a bit more like it, at least we have a sense of the worlds off of Earth which look quite good. Still not sure how I feel about four people travelling, that'll take some getting used to.

If there's a monster I wanna see back (even if they were a creation of the last showrunner) it's the Weeping Angels, I miss them D:

I'm rewatching from series 1 right now and the production quality looks so different! laugh.gif

I'm excited for this it looks really good, if anything I'd be happy if that was all we get to see until the release. It's great having a sneak peak at some of the monsters/aliens/villains but it's far too easy to accidentally show too much and ruin the surprise.

I was a bit skeptical about here saying "best friends" at first but it does make sense that she's moving on from saying 'companions'. David Tennant's Doctor was very attached to his companions and eventually had to let them all go in (mostly) heartbreaking ways. Matt Smith & Peter Capaldi's Doctors, whilst were very 'fun' at times, showed the age of the Doctor and how he doesn't want to get too emotionally involved with the people he travels with because he realises there's never a happy ending.

It's a shame this probably means we'll never see River again though, as her character would have definitely said "So you're a man again I see" or something and obviously we've seen how they first & last meet each other so there's so room there :/

Posted by: lewistgreen 20th July 2018, 12:19 PM

The last permanent one was the Fifth Doctor with Adric, Nyssa and Tegan in the 80s! We've seen some instances in New Who - Amy, Rory and River were the TARDIS team on several occasions and I think they all worked brilliantly together, plus my personal favourite of Rose, Jack and Mickey with Nine in Boom Town wub.gif I wish we'd seen more of that dynamic!

The 4th Doctor referred to Sarah Jane, K9 and Romana as his best friends.

5 was mainly pissed off with his companions, 6 tried to kill/ argue with most of his and 7 was too busy manipulating his.

The other latter Doctor just tried to get off with them (sweeping statements obviously... but I think only the 4th overtly referred to his Companions as best or 2nd best friends).

Over the weekend I watched the comic con/ the trailer etc and have to say am quite excited for the new series now; Jodie was very charismatic and actually seemed mad/ barmy enough to be an excellent Doctor. Also interested in the Doctor/ companion dynamics as I think it came across that they had good chemistry.

Also I do kinda like the fact this is going to be all fresh; nothing hanging over etc. Whilst I enjoyed series 10 and Capaldi alot, I think the show did need a reboot.

London Comic Con this weekend has every living Doctor (other than Jodie and Sylvester, who had to cancel), as well as loads of companions. I wish I was there!

Looking forward to the new season with Jodie in the lead, love the new Dr. Who logo but most of all the new Tardis when she finds it. The first episode is mostly land based I heard. I also think having 3 companions is a good thing, to be honest I don't mind Bradley Walsh as an actor,

Posted by: Klaus 7th August 2018, 12:00 PM

Steven Moffat has stated that, as the original plan was for Clara to leave in ‘Last Christmas’, he was eyeing up that epiosde’s Shona as a companion for Series 9 (played by Faye Marsay)! I guess it would have depended on Faye’s availability and actually agreeing to it, but I’d have loved that idea! Great actress, great character and great story!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 7th August 2018, 06:43 PM

I re-watched Last Christmas the other day, and tbh, I thought Shona was a bit annoying.

It would've be interesting to see her as a companion though, as I thought she was quite good in Fresh Meat as Candice.

There's rumors that there will be a sketch filmed for Children in Need this year, the first since Time Crash in 2007. Since then, there's just been previews of the Christmas special and in 2012 there was a prequel for The Snowmen.

Would moving it to Sunday night at 8pm, work?

Yes, 100%. I suggested this before (maybe in this thread?) or even agreed when there have been rumours.

It may have helped bring back Saturday Night TV in 2005 and obviously has a legacy being on Saturday nights but t’s also a show that breaks tradition!! Less and less people are watching live TV, let alone on Saturday nights where the only dramas now are Casualty and the really dark late night ones like Taboo, Gunpowder or the Danish/Scandi ones. Sunday night now is the premier night for TV viewing and is the perfect place to put a family drama like Doctor Who there.

I’ll be so annoyed if they leave it on Saturdays where it’s just completely overshadowed by Strictly and people going out or having movie/Netflix nights. It needs a regular time slot too.

(I know Strictly’s on Sundays too but it feels a lot different!)

QUOTE(Calcified Froot @ Oct 9 2017, 05:32 PM) *
I’m kind of hoping they move it to Sunday nights too, maybe at 8pm. The hour slot will help it fit in the schedule. It’s return may have helped bring back Saturday night TV in 2005 but it’s not going to respark again now and the show is becoming lost in the fact that no other dramas air on Saturday nights apart from the mainstay of Casualty.

Posted by: Dickston 10th August 2018, 01:46 PM

I like it airing on Saturday nights for you because it means we get it on the following Sunday night :kink.

Posted by: JosephAvery 10th August 2018, 01:48 PM

I think moving to Sunday would be the best move but if it doesn't, it needs a *consistent* time slot BEFORE Strictly, not mucked about at different times after Strictly like series 9 (which suffered in the ratings as a result).

I do feel like having the show air on a Sunday would be far more beneficial now than a Saturday in terms of ratings, unless of course as Joseph said it was consistently before Strictly week-on-week.

Posted by: Botchia 15th August 2018, 09:49 PM

Sunday would be best for it, as much as it feels like a Saturday show. With the reboot, it needs some stability in scheduling and Sunday will certainly offer that! The last time it played out alongside Strictly on Saturday, it got very lost in the schedule.

All of the writers have now been confirmed for the series:

Malorie Blackman
Ed Hime
Peter McTighe
Vinay Patel
Joy Wilkinson

So I’m assuming Chibnall will be writing 5 episodes for the series, and each of the new writers will have an episode each? Very excited either way. Intrigued to see Malorie’s take on Doctor Who!

I don’t think that needs to be that much of a concern anyway. These days, I can’t see it harming the show that much.

Wasn't it up against XF for Series 7 when the second part aired later in the year or did they always air it before? Tbh I don't think XF is much competition.
I would imagine they're avoiding Saturday nights so that it's not on too early/too late because of Strictly.
8pm timeslot is a good shout but could be 7. Countryfile never has a fixed timeslot anyway.

It had always aired before XF (but with an overlap) until, of course, series 9 where the scheduling was all over the place.

I'm thinking they might go for either 6:30pm or 7pm personally (6:30 could allow for Strictly results immediately after and then Countryfile or whatever else follows at 8pm).

Chibnall's also apparently confirmed in an interview with The Times that we won't be seeing River Song, Missy, the Paternoster gang or the Weeping Angels again and that there'll be no Daleks or Cybermen for a while.

Not surprised by the first four at all, tbh. They're definitely all characters/aliens that were defining of the Moffat era, and they're best left there. Also glad he's putting the Daleks and Cybermen to rest for a bit (unless he's just trolling), then we can have a proper high-stakes story with them again, unlike what we've been used to recently.

Posted by: Klaus 8th September 2018, 10:50 PM

I agree with River and the Paternoster Gange. The former has had her goodbye to the show and it wouldn’t fit the continuity for her to meet No. 13 and the latter isn’t essential to the show. Missy we’ve obviously seen ‘die’ and the next regeneration should appear in the show so it depends how he’s interpreting that.

The Weeping Angels have become a bit overused but I do think they could have another really strong story if they were to return so I don’t think that should be ruled out completely. The Daleks and Cybermen NEED to come back. They won’t be missed for this series but I think either should appear in the next series. The Daleks haven’t had a proper story since the opener to Series 9!!

Posted by: Calum 9th September 2018, 03:23 AM

If he's got any sense, he'd leave the Master for some time now. We've had two regenerations only four series' apart, so I'd maybe say (dependent on how long Jodie stays with the show for) the Master should return for Fourteen. There's plenty other classic villains that could be an excellent major threat in a modern episode - Omega, the Monk, etc.

Also do agree that the Daleks/Cybermen shouldn't be left out in the cold for too long, but I feel like the most recent stories with both have been a bit dim. Neither have felt properly scary since their respective major stories in the RTD era, so I'd hope Chibnall's just waiting some time and building up to an epic finale with one or the other in to a) make them scary again and b) tell a story worth telling.

Posted by: Calum 18th September 2018, 10:27 AM

FINALLY we have a promo pic with all four of them. I love it! wub.gif

There's also synopses for episodes 1 and 2, with the title of episode 2 confirmed as The Ghost Monument.

Posted by: Venice Botch 25th September 2018, 07:55 PM

Provisionally scheduled for 6:45-7:50pm for the launch episode and likely to be 7-7:50pm from episode 2 onwards.

Posted by: Klaus 25th September 2018, 08:16 PM

I’m shocked there’s still no sight of monsters yet which obviously means we’ll only see them when they’re on screen. I do understand the reasons and obviously the less ‘spoilers’ there are, the more we enjoy the show but I did love the full-on monsters publicity that used to trail Series 1-4!

I really hope we do get some striking and memorable aliens/monsters!

-x-

I’ve also just read that filming for the series and the Christmas special took 10 months!! I thought the reduced episode count was to save on cost and therefore filming time so interesting that its taking longer, if not more, time.

All indications so far suggest that 13 is going to be accessible 'fun' Doctor Who as the RTD era was...which is exactly what we need after Moffat's era!

I just hope Jodie gets to have her 'Doctor' moment nice and early to silence the critics. I liked Capaldi as the Doctor in the end and felt like a nice pace change from the two previous versions...it's just it took until his second series to have his Doctor moment and for him to feel like the Doctor which bugged me.

love the honest trailers so I find it amazing that they've covered the full span of the show, so many memories there - the most in-depth best bits I've ever seen of the show!

not so keen on the fact that they pick on how much it focuses on the UK, as if all the other 5000 US shows focus on anything other than America, and that's what makes it so special <3 also Kylie is not British oops

Their showing it the same day as the UK I think, the premiere was 'simulcast' (until the adverts).

Posted by: Count Olaf 14th October 2018, 03:41 PM

As Calum says earlier, episode 3’s title is ‘Rosa’ which of course means the events take place around Rosa Parks and her refusal to give up her seat on a bus. The synopsis says: ‘is someone trying to change history. This episode REALLY intrigues me, it has the potential to be really great and groundbreaking having been written by Malorie Blackman, and starring two black companions in Alabama and the heart of the civil rights movement.

Episode 4 is written by Chris Chibnall and is called ‘Arachnids in the UK’ and sees the gang head back to Sheffield and we get our (presumably) first glimpse of Yaz’s family! Something is affecting the spider population... Not one for those with arachnophobia!

Surprised Chibnall's single-handedly writing so many of the scripts early on in the series too - I'd have thought he'd save himself for the latter episodes.

Posted by: Count Olaf 15th October 2018, 11:34 AM

Episode 5 is called ‘The Tsuranga Conundrum’ and is written by Chris Chibnall (again!) which sees the group in space fighting a deadly and unusual creature!

Episode 6 is called ‘Demons of the Punjab’, written by Vinay Patel and is set in 1947 with Yaz trying to discover her grandmother’s history which sounds very intriguing. Nice to hear we’re getting background to Yaz in episodes 4 & 6!

Posted by: Hexton 16th October 2018, 01:42 AM

There's no way they'll be able to get away with filming above the waist for a whole series!

Doctor permanently trapped in perilous quicksand?

Posted by: Sonia Fowler 24th October 2018, 06:03 PM

Yeah considering the doctor is quite a adventitious character I don't see how filming from the waist up or any other filming tricks would work if she was indeed pregnant.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 24th October 2018, 06:15 PM

If that is indeed the case, then the only workaround they could have for a full season would be to have a whole series of Doctor-light episodes like "Blink", where The Doctor pops up from time to time but isn't the main focus of the story, although I can't imagine it would be something that the BBC would go for.

For some reason, I had the feeling that that Jodie would only be a one-series Doctor, due to the fact that her profile was already on the way up even before she was cast and is definitely set up for worldwide acting success, although the unexpected popularity of the latest season has put paid to that idea.

Where did you hear the pregnant rumor?

I can't find it anywhere, not even on the tabloids.

It's currently circulating Doctor Who forums that have cited journalists as sources, so I'd only take it with a pinch of salt for now. laugh.gif

Like T Boy says, we've become accustomed to breaks or series splits during Moffat's era, so I'd hope that's something Chibnall would be keen to avoid, unless absolutely necessary. If there's no avoiding being unable to get a full series out until 2020 though, I'd be happy with specials throughout 2019 so it's not completely absent.

Posted by: Suedehead2 24th October 2018, 06:42 PM

She could spend the whole series in a Dalek, Davros stlye.

Posted by: Suedehead2 24th October 2018, 06:45 PM

Accordingf to something I read on the Radio Times website earlier, the rumour has been fuelled by the fact that filming is not due to start until January whereas filming for this series started in October. However, it also said that some of the time after October was spent on things like building the new Tardis and putting the new title sequence together. Neither of those will be necessary this time.

There will be NO Christmas special this year - an episode will air on New Year's Day in lieu of the traditional Christmas Day one.

Posted by: Calum 2nd November 2018, 10:24 AM

I'm not surprised if it turns out to be true since it's been heavily rumoured for a while now. I guess it's a bit of a shame that we won't end up waiting in anticipation for Doctor Who on Christmas day, but if it proves worth the move to tell stronger stories without the need to shoehorn Christmas into it, I'm all for it.

Posted by: Buttered Muffin 2nd November 2018, 10:49 AM

That's probably why they did it. Last one had a superhero kid - I fell asleep during it laugh.gif Still not sure what happened.

Posted by: T Boy 2nd November 2018, 11:25 AM

I will miss Doctor Who on Christmas Day. It’s been a tradition for so long.

Posted by: Klaus 2nd November 2018, 12:43 PM

I’d seen the rumours too. Not particularly fussed as I never watched it on actual Christmas Day anyway and the shoehorned in references to Christmas did become slightly tiring after 12/13 episodes (although not with Twice Upon a Time, that was a nice touch!) I’m thinking The Time of the Doctor mainly, I remember eyerolling when the town was called Christmas laugh.gif

I’m just glad we’re gettig another episode!

Posted by: Buttered Muffin 2nd November 2018, 01:19 PM

Omg "in a teewwwn cawwwllled ... CHRISTMAS!!"

Audience: Oooh I see what you did there! xD Woeful. I hate he fact that you have to watch Christmas episodes to see Doctors regenerate sad.gif I'd definitely prefer New Year's Eve ones.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 2nd November 2018, 06:47 PM

I mean the conclusion of this series shouldn't fall that far away from Christmas anyway so it may not even be that different! Somewhat a shame as it's been such a tradition on Christmas Day, but very few of them were vintage classics anyway and we've just got a wait a week later than usual!

Posted by: Calum 5th November 2018, 03:38 AM

Episode 7 is titled Kerblam! (written by Pete McTighe) and sees the team investigate a warehouse moon, home of the galaxy's largest retailer called Kerblam!.

Episode 8 is titled The Witchfinders (written by Joy Wilkinson) and sees them embroiled in a witch trial intensified by the arrival of King James I.

Both sound very interesting, even if I'm not completely sold on 7's title. laugh.gif

Posted by: Klaus 11th November 2018, 03:06 PM

Episode 7 sounds.... interesting.

Episode 8 is odd because I was only thinking hours before it was revealed that witch trials would be an interesting area for the show to explore and add a sci-fi element too!!!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 11th November 2018, 03:08 PM

If The Doctor doesn't go on trial for being a witch, I will eat my hat. tongue.gif

'The Woman Who Fell to Earth' has grown its viewing figures to 11,456,433 in BARB's 28 day data across all devices, almost half a million up on its 7 day data!

Posted by: Calum 13th November 2018, 05:23 PM

Episode 9 and 10's titles (supposedly going to be officially confirmed at midnight) with synopses:

Episode 9 is titled It Takes You Away and sees the gang on the edge of a Norwegian fjord in present day, discovering a boarded-up cottage and a girl named Hanne who needs their help.

Episode 10 is titled The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos. Synopsis: 'On the planet of Ranskoor Av Kolos, lies the remains of a brutal battlefield. But as the Doctor, Graham, Yaz and Ryan answer nine separate distress calls, they discover the planet holds far more secrets. Who is the mysterious commander with no memory? What lies beyond the mists? Who or what are the Ux? The answers will lead the Doctor and her friends towards a deadly reckoning.'

These both sound incredibly exciting! ohmy.gif Going by the synopsis and what Ed Hime's already said about the episode, I feel like episode 9 could potentially be genuinely scary!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 13th November 2018, 06:10 PM

Damn, really looking forward to both of those. Especially the last one!

That's incredible! I've been enjoying this new series, Jodie Whittaker is wonderfully engaging as Doctor Who and although the series has been a bit slow in places the Rosa Parks episode was excellent- really good to see an episode like that which educated as well as entertained especially given the main audience are young and will have taken a huge amount from it. The episode with the spiders and the not-so-subtle Trump like character, which acted as a lesson in the dangers of fracking, was great too.

I also like the fact that the topics it has dealt with so far have wound up the Daily Heil. biggrin.gif

Posted by: DexTheHalls 14th November 2018, 10:20 AM

The episode titles are awful laugh.gif

Not keen on the new theme either :/ I've had a few weeks to let the intro grow on me but at this point I just skip it (whereas previously I haven't).

Posted by: Calum 14th November 2018, 03:15 PM

DWM have also confirmed in their ‘Next Time’ information that the special will be airing on New Year’s Day, with a preview of it.

Not surprised that it’s turned out to be the case. I’ll miss the tradition of a Christmas special, but look forward to seeing what kind of stories this leads to.

There will be a 'world exclusive' on Children in Need tonight! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Calum 16th November 2018, 10:00 PM

Seems a bit strange that they've left a 'world exclusive' until after 10pm. unsure.gif

A preview clip of Kerblam! then... bit pointless really considering we'll have the episode on Sunday laugh.gif

im guessing they don’t want anyone to see it

The usually very detailed synopsis for the New Year's Day episode which confirms it will be set on New Year's Day!

QUOTE
"As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring, from across the centuries of Earth's history. As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz return home, will they be able to overcome the threat to planet Earth?"

Posted by: lewistgreen 8th December 2018, 08:52 PM

New Year’s episode is called Resolution and we will get our first look tomorrow after the finale. Fans online are speculating that it’ll be a Dalek story but I doubt it tongue.gif

Posted by: Calum 8th December 2018, 09:58 PM

At the moment I don't think I trust Chibnall with a Dalek story while they're all still very firmly character driven. Once the era becomes more established I'd love one.

Jodie's also confirmed that she definitely is returning for series 12, contrary to speculation. Ed Hime's CV shows he's writing another episode too!

Posted by: Santa Klaus 8th December 2018, 10:44 PM

It’s time for a returning monster tbh considering they haven’t been able to come uo with ANYTHING new so far. I would say it’s time for a Dalek story too, as the last proper one was the opener of S9. Will be interesting to see how humans are the real villains in a Dalek story... kink.gif

I’m hoping that potential confirmation of a writer for S12 means production is well underway for a Series in 2019 although it’s a shame it’s the writer of my least favourite non-Chibnall story laugh.gif

Posted by: Santa Klaus 9th December 2018, 08:54 PM

So we’re officially getting the next series in early 2020, so probably the usual Easter time?

*sigh* it’s becoming such a stop/start kind of thing. I feel the show found the perfect timeslot for it, benefiting from Strictly etc so it’s a shame to throw that away. I do understand the show takes up a lot of time/pressurebut it’s frustrating from an outsider’s perspective! Especially when there’s less episodes than previous and there was a lot of planning time for this series, allowing time to plan for the next one.

Jodie/Bradley/Mandio/Tosin all confirmed to return as well.

Posted by: Santa Klaus 31st December 2018, 12:54 PM

BBC have said 'very early' 2020 for the next series and filming is going to start in January.

That heavily suggests January 2020, probably the first Sunday of the year. I've seen a few rumours that we probably won't get a Christmas(/NYD) special next year so that would probably help cover that up.

(also Doctor Who: S10 comes to Netflix tomorrow (tho all are on iPlayer))

Hopefully it will premiere on New Year's Day maybe? I can actually see it getting shifted back to Saturdays if The Greatest Dancer ends up being a hit this year to be paired together. Otherwise, Sundays again.

Posted by: Calum 1st January 2019, 04:08 PM

I kinda hope they don't move it back to Saturdays. They've already potentially shot themselves in the foot by moving it from Autumn to Spring - they need to stand by their decision to have moved it to Sundays in the first place.

I'm hoping it'll be January 2020, maybe led in by another NYD special, then the 10 regular episodes?

According to the Daily Star (hmm), there will be a Christmas special at the end of the year.

Posted by: Calum 7th May 2019, 11:38 PM

I'd rather we didn't go back to Christmas specials now if I'm honest. Resolution was a perfect example of having a seasonal episode without the gimmick of Christmas added in, while at the same time still managing to be an event.

In an ideal world we'd have another NYD special with series 12 a short while after.
